Preferred Solution: my computer crashes whenever it wants to!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My computer started crashing when I would try to run Norton AV . Then it started crashing when viewing pictures and videos. Took to repair shop and they could only find some spyware. I told that that everything was backed up so to just refomat. They also tested my ram and said it was fine in the testing but suggested changing it if the problem continued. It started crashing agian soon after getting it home. I replaced my ram and it still crashes. However yesterday I did get a successful virus scan.. everything looked fine with that. It is and Asus bourd, AMD 2200, Win XP with all the current windows updates. Any help would be appreciated.

PS
I had this problem a year ago and it seemed that replaceing a ram stick fixed it. When researching that someone suggested it could be the cache on the mother board. Could that be possible?

A:Computer crashes. Have reformatted and changed ram, still crashes

hey dude i got a thing u can do first of all start the computer in safe mode then run your antivirus program and scan
next if there are any viruses that have been found you can then remove them
once done reboot and try scaning again but in normal mode to see if the problem has been fixed

I don't know whether I have a malware problem, or a hard-drive-in-death-throes problem, or what. But I figured it was best to start here, so if it's not a virus I can go over to the XP forum with that ruled out.

Over the past few months my desktop has been steadily driving me nuts. First it began giving me BSODs at random intervals, anything from a day to a month apart. (Currently, about once every three weeks.) The most common error is 0x0000008E, but I've also had 0x00000019, 0x00000024, 0x1000000A, 0x0000004E (PFN_LIST_CORRUPT), 0x0000007F, 0x0000000A (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL), and 0x00000050 (PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA). Usually it crashes at startup, but it has taken as much as twenty minutes. I've tried defragging the hard drive, using a registry cleaner, and replacing Sygate firewall (see below) but nothing appears to have worked.

Then Sygate starting occasionally crashing while I was online. I replaced it with PC Tools free firewall, which hasn't had any problems. (Yet...)

Somewhere in the last several months (hard to say whether it was before or after Sygate and the BSODs, it seems to have been creeping up for a while) Firefox developed an increasing tendency to hang. It reached the point where it was basically non-functional for a good quarter hour after connecting. During that time doing anything - maximising or minimising windows, accessing the start menu - took forever. Then Firefox started crashing - constantly. I worked my way through the official trou... Svchost.exe Extreme Memory Usage Crashes Computer When Computer Idle
I am currently experiencing a problem that started just a few days ago where the svchost.exe process keeps taking up memory on my computer even when the computer is idle and continues to grow to taking up to 99% of memory before it crashes/freezes the computer and it has to be restarted several times a day to clear the memory back down. However sometimes when I restart the computer within an hour or a couple of hours or sometimes less the memory will get exhausted again.

One special note is that since my Windows 7 OS was preinstalled on my HP computer, I do not have access to the original Windows DVD and the DVD drive on my computer is currently broken and is unable to be used.

I downloaded the TSG SysInfo tool and the FRST tool with the following results.

I was able to download the FRST tool and I have the following results, so hopefully this will help someone to be able to help me with this problem it seems to be getting worse as time goes on eating up memory.

Thanks for your help, time and efforts it is appreciated and here is the TSG SysInfo and the following 2 logs from FRST:

A:[SOLVED] Can't open My Computer/Documents/Control Panel -computer crashes

Hi Anamarija and welcome to TSF !

Does the problem also happen in safe mode ?

Unplug all your USB devices. Use a PS/2 mouse and keyboard for the time of the troubleshooting.

Go to start => run and type chkdsk c: /R. You'll be prompted to restart the computer. Tell us if it finds any errors on the hard drive. If you couldn't see the scan's results you'll find them in the event viewer under application in the latest winlogon entry (click on the title of the source column to sort them alphabetically).

Did the BSOD or the errors in the eventviewer mention any .exe, .dll or .sys file ?

We'll need the .dmp files that you'll find in c:\windows\minidump, problem is you may not be able to browse your drive to zip and attach them with your computer. Copy them to some floppy or usb drive using the command prompt : start => run => cmd. Type copy c:\windows\minidump\*.dmp x: x being the volume letter that corresponds to your usb or floppy drive. Then with another computer zip them and attach the .zip file to your next post using the manage attachments button.

Double click the errors in the event viewer, click on the third button on the right (this copies the information in the memory) and right-click => paste the complete error message here.

Go to start => run and type devmgmt.msc. See if there are any devices with a red cross, yellow exclamation point or whatever in front of their name. If you find anything related to your webcam then right-click =>... Read more

I have been having a long running problem with my computer. It started out as a lack of internet access which turned out tI o be a bad virus. I fixed that problem by doing a complete reformat of my system. I thought that that would fix the problem and it did for a bit.

After a week or so I started having BSOD. I went to a computer shop and we went to work on the issue. The BSOD's were showing that there was an error with my sata connection. I replaced the cables. The problem kept happening, so I replaced the motherboard and hard drive with a complete reformat again. Then I continued to have the same issues which included crashes, disappearing icons, weird error messages (x86 errors) and once in a while a BSOD. The BSOD's all say there's still an error with the sata connection.

I then decided to replace the power supply and upgraded to an evga 1300 watt. I replaced my case as well to a bigger one. I even replaced the ram sticks That seemed to fix the problems for a while and the BSOD's became very rare, but after a lot of use the weird error messages became very common. I really can't use the computer any more. I'm typing this on my laptop.

The computer shop I go to say's this is probably a hardware issue. They can't seem to figure it out. I've had it in multiple times. This is a nightmare for a computer owner. I have replaced virtually all the parts and my computer is still utterly unusable. The only program I installed since the last reformat wa... Read more

Holy.....

Why don't you just buy a new one! WOW.. Sorry..
Well, you SHOULDN'T have played with drivers...That is what's up.
Tried re-formatting AFTER doing those changes?
That computer shop owner though...I don't know what to say.
1) try reformatting to a version that is supported by the bios..(Check if it supports x64)...(fully ready)
2) post every error you get and attempt to find solution to each one. (Getting tired)
3) Can you mention WHEN did certain errors happen? before...after changing Processor and Graphic Card? (Getting worried)
4) Try lots of thing on the web. (hope time)
5) Revert back to the old virtual stuff. (shameful return)
6) take off the good pieces and attempt to use it on another computer or sell it. (Hopeless)

This afternoon, my computer began crashing whenever I try to open one of the more important files, like my computer or the control panel. Everything works correctly on safe mode, and I've tried driver verification, but there's upwards of 200 unregistered drivers, so I'm not entirely sure what to do. Are there any drivers I should look for to move away from the system32 folder? Or is there any other way to solve this?

Also, I haven't installed any new software recently.

Thanks,

So I have recently bought a Samsung 850 Evo 120 GB ssd drive. My HP computer now has a 1TB hitachi hard drive and a ssd drive. The computer loads from the SSD drive. To try and maintain space, I have tried to download MS Office on the HDD. But when I install office, while in the middle of installing, my computer always crashes. This has happened on all three of my attempts to install office so far. Is there any reason why I should not be able to install office on the HDD or do I have to install it on the SSD?

Thanks in advance for the help!

A:Computer crashes while installing MS Office on a Computer with 2 drive

It's always best to have your programs loaded onto the Windows drive, which in your case is the Samsung SSD.

It would be best if you could supply a screen shot of Disc Management making sure it covers all discs & the information. This will show if you have any other problems.

This tutorial shows how to do a screen shot.

I was using my microsoft office word program, and it all of a sudden went funky, like short circuiting out, then a blue screen popped up saying that the program I was using was bad and causing my computer to crash, so my computer was shutting down before it crashed. Then it shut down and came back up asking if I wanted to go back to a restored or previous thing, something like that, (a restore point), and it said it would probably turn off and on several times through out and could take several minutes, then the computer turned off and back on and the screen would not turn on... I have a dell all in one computer, so I do not have a separate tower from my monitor. What happened? How can I fix this? Any one out there have any ideas? I was not even on the internet at the time.

A:Got a bad program, shutting down computer before computer crashes... help

When you first turn it on, can you see the Dell logo?  If so, does it show the Windows logo after that?
Do you recall details of what the blue screen said?

If you can see the Dell logo, then try these free, bootable diagnostics:  http://www.carrona.org/initdiag.html
You can press F12 to get to the boot menu in order to boot from the CD/DVD drive.

Hello. I have got some problems with my computer crashing. Until now i thought it was one program that i very often use that caused it, but recently ive noticed that it happens when i play games generally. My computer have been at service where i bought it, they thought i had temperature problems, but the crashes remains. I downloaded a demo to the game Doom 3, and it starts up good, i changed the settings to the best ones, all seemed to be ok. When i got in to the game and started to move, the game moved very smoothly, no "lag" at all. Then after 10 seconds my whole computer freezed and restarted, even though i shut off "automatic restart". This have happend in other games too in the past months. I have tried re-installing windows, updating all drivers, virusscans, spyware programs, and registry cleaners. Just now, i tried logging my temp just for 1 or 2 seconds when im actually in this game, then i shut it off. My 2 cpus was at 41 C, and my graphics card at about 54-55 C. This crash do not happend this fast when my computer has been shut off over a night or so, now its been on for about 5 hours, and the crash comes almost immediatly. Heres some of my system:

Intel Core2Duo @ 1886mhz each
Nvidia Geforce 7600GS
1024 DDR Ram
Asus P5B-VM Motherboard (dont know if thats all the info needed on that one)
-Hoping someone can help me

Any error messages or anything?Download TDSSkillerRight Click it Run as Admin.Click on Change parameters Select TDLFS file systemClick the Scan buttonPost the LOG In your next reply

Do not change the default options on scan resultsSome types of malware will disable MBAM and other security tools. If MBAM will not install, try renaming it.Before saving any of your security programs, rename them first. For example, before you save Malwarebytes', rename it to something like MBblah.exe and then click on Save and save it to your desktop. Same thing after you install it. Before running it, rename the main executable file first

Right-click on the mbam-setup.exe file and change the .exe extension to .bat, .com, .pif, or .scr and then double-click on it to run.

If after installation, MBAM will not run, open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files, right-click on mbam.exe and change the .exe as noted above. Then double-click on it to run..Another work around is by not using the mouse to install it, Just use the arrow keys, tab, and enter keys. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen cli... Hi.

First, my apologies as I have gone and run Combofix without any advice - I only realized I wasn't supposed to after having done so - careless I know. Basically, the problem I am facing is that my computer crashes (everything freezes except mouse still moves) forcing me to turn off the computer using the off switch. This happens without fail each time I watch a youtube video after about 20 minutes or so. After running Combofix luckily nothing has gotten worse however the situation remains the same, therefore I have decided to post the log here and I have not run any other programs since.

I would really appreciate it if you could take a look at log and identify what the problem is or offer me some advice as I'm not that computer savvy.

Thank you.

Recently I've had to get rid of a lot of spyware/adware/trojans/malware from my computer. All of it has seemingly come off successfully.

However quite often when I run these scans whether it be my McAfee virus scan or spyware scan (e.g. AVG, Ad-Aware, Spybot etc.) my computer crashes mid-scan without warning and restarts itself. It even goes beyond scans with it crashing. While running 'disk cleanup' the computer crashes and restarts itself.

Can anyone give me any assistance?

Thanks

A:Computer Crashes

Honestly, if you have that many problems with your computer, reformat it.

I have been through this before in different projects and I consider virus software as preventative measures because once a virus latches on it can be deadly.

I would reformat your computer and start with a clean slate, it is the most painless way to recover.

My computer worked fine for about a week then it started to crash. when it crashes its like a hard power off (like if you pulled the power cord) when i would turn the computer back on it would crash a 1-5 minutes after boot. It runs fine in safe mode.
I have tryed 2 hard drives, and i have tried it with just the minimal components (mobo, 1 stick of ram, 1 hard drive) but still crashes) have test the PSU, and its good, have also tested with another psu.

its got to the point where it doesnt even let me reinstall windows 7 64bit, it just crashes at the first step of the install. i check the CPU temp after a crash and it is 20c-30c. ive reseaded every thing even the cmos battery.

I really need help, was going to have lan party today :(

Hi!

I've encountered some difficult problems to deal with when it comes to my computer. It was built for exactly three years ago and I've never had any problems until now.

The 6th October while I was playing Battlefield 3 Beta the computer crashed and I had to restart it. During the boot a warning sign told me that the CPU was overheated and that's why the computer crashed. So after replacing the original Intel CPU-fan I assumed the problem would've been solved. However, after playing BF3B for 10 minutes the computer crashes again. I've checked all the temps and it shows just fine for the CPU and graphic card. I've played games like Crysis 2 with high settings without any problems, and the same problem occurs when I play low requirement games like Battlefield Play4Free.

After looking on google, the only cause for this problem I can find is overheated CPU, which mine isn't.
The graphic card's driver is updated, I'm not sure about the motherboard, as I'm not sure what I should look for. My computer specs:

I don't recall visting any questionable sites lately or downloading anything... spybot comes out clean, as does adaware - but i can't run my anti-virus without the computer shutting off. I was running CA software; and thought the problem might be there, so I unistalled it and downloaded a trial of microtrends pc-cillian. The same thing happens; namely I can't make it through a system scan without the computer shutting down.

here's my system info:

Help! I have a two year old computer with Microsoft Vista. For about 6-8 months now it has been crashing every single day at exactly 3:28 pm. I have taken it to techgeeks and they do not know what is causing it - they only installed more antivirus software.

MOST OF THE TIME the computer will restart itself; however about once a week i get the "blue screen of death" and you have to manually choose options and then reboot.

What is going on?

For no apparent reason my computer reboots after 5~10 minutes of running. The system will remain stable for days, weeks even. This problem possibly occurs whenever the system reboots. It might be, but not confirmed, that the cpu fan does not come on when it should. The cpu heating up causes me to reboot.. or thats my theory.

So I uninstalled it and it hasn't crashed since. How can I fix this?

A:Computer crashes when I use AVG

download ESET nod32 instead, do a scan in safe mode with Nod32, and se if your computer has any viruses. it could be that a virus reacts to the virus scan, and turns completely of on impulse. because it doesnt wanna go away.
so get ESET, one of the best virus programs to be sure, it is also the one to be used if your messenger is infected. just scan in safe mode, and it erases every single virus in its database.

A:My computer crashes!

First thing I would do would be to disable automatic restart on system failure, so the next time the system crashes you can see the error screen and hopefully identify the problem. If you do get a blue screen next time, take special note of any file name listings and STOP error codes.

My comp is a Windows XP Pro, AMD Athlon 3800+ X2 processor, ASUS M2A-VM motherboard.

I got my new computer last July, and up until a couple of weeks ago, everything was still fine.

Any advice appreciated, thxs!

Go to START -
then RUN
type CMD
a command box will open
type CHKDSK/F and hit enter
it will ask you if you want to run on next startup
type Y for yes
type EXIT the box will close
Restart your computer and let the test run, it will take some time

Hello. The nature of my problem is that my computer will crash everyone once in a while. I don't really get a warning or anything like everything starting to freeze most of the time, the computer just shuts down. My computer always has a fit about connecting up to the internet after this happens too. I'm not sure if its a virus, but I'm getting doubtful it is since just recently I ran for viruses, spyware, and posted a hijackthis log which all of course helped, but hasn't identified this problem. So..if anyone may know what the problem is or can help me figure it out, that would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Ravetheinsane and welcome to TSF !

Do you get any blue error screen when the computer crashes ? Right-click my computer => properties => advanced => settings under startup and recovery => make sure that automatically restart is unticked.

Zip and attach the .dmp files that you'll find in c:\windows\minidump.

Random crashes with no error screen are often caused by overheating or a failing power supply. See the link in my sig and tell us about your system specs. If this is a laptop or some brand computer then brand and model will do. If it's a desktop then don't forget the brand, model and wattage of the power supply (open the computer case and the info will be on the sticker that's on the side of the power supply block).

If it's a desktop then open the computer case and make sure the fans and heatsinks are not clogged by dust. If there's dust then turn the computer off and use a can of compressed air (available at your local computer shop) to clean it.

Enter the BIOS at startup (look for some message telling you to "press xx to enter setup" right after the computer starts) and look for some hardware monitor or pc health status screen. Report the temps and voltages you'll find there.

The errors in the eventviewer will help but please focus on the errors and warnings that happen at the time of the crashes. Double-click the error, click the third button on the right once (this copies the info in the memory) then right-click => paste it... Read more

i have a laptop and a few months ago, it was always crashing due to driver issues. i found the drivers and thought it was fixed, but i was wrong. I have a picture of my desktop and if somone could look at it and possibly tell me what is wrong and how to fix it, i would greatly appreciate it.

Well we are looking at either driver issues (which you mentioned) file association errors (which is what the desktop message is saying) or both.

I get no sense that the two could be related, but possible. Why do you describe hardware issues, then post an error message for a file association problem, as I do not think a file association problem will cause any real problems other than you can't open the file by double-clicking it.

To fix that, right click on the file's icon and select option "Open With". On the box that follows, click the Application you want to open the particular file with (such as Windows Media Player, or whatever) and make sure to click the box "Always open this type of file with this program" (or words to that effect). Hit "Apply" and close the box. Now double click the file's icon and if it works the App you selected should launch the file.

This does not sound like the serious issue you are concerned with. What other symptoms are you having ?

I have been having this problem for a while now but just recently it has become worse. I am unable to log on to any computer across the network, if the computer is theft untouched for a while then it will crash. i originally thought it may be a networking problem but those guys have now directed me to this section saying they think it is viruses of some sort.

here is the first log

Hi. My computer has been crashing often (every 30 mins - 2 hrs, usually) whenever I use it, but I can do everything else normally and it runs fine. It's been like this for a long time, I think I've had this computer for 3 or so years, and It's probably been crashing for 1 and a half. I don't know a whole lot about computers, but I've tried what I could.

I even got a new video card and RAM a while back and put them in, but it continued to crash.

I tried using only one stick of RAM in each slot, like the "Crashing Consistently" thread, and switching slots (I have 2 slots each with 1 gig of RAM) but it still crashes no matter what.

I unchecked "Restart Automatically" in my settings.

I ran "sfc /purgecache", "sfc /scannow" with my Windows CD, but that did not help.

Any suggestions would be great--Me and my friends are completely stumped. If you need any info just ask, (though you may need to tell me how to get it--I still don't know a lot).

Thank you!

Oh, I also tried Re-Formatting--mainly because I wanted to anyway.

Hey tsf
over the last couple of months with my old computer i was experiencing lots of crashes and restarts that happened 99% of the time whenever i was playing a game and as soon as the loading bar would finish it would crash. started happening wen i switched to windows 7 then continued even though i wiped it and put xp on it. I figured something must have been wrong with the hardware in my computer and it was a couple of years old and pretty outdated so i didnt think much of upgrading to a new computer...

except now im experiencing the same problems only more frequently and they happen when im only watching a video on the internet or doing other way less taxing things than gaming, any ideas where i should start?
