Sound very soft

Q: Sound very soft

So I turned on my computer today and the startup sounds would be normal but sounds for all applications would be very soft. For example when you move the volume mixer to full it would still be really soft. The only sounds that work fine is when I am watching youtube and also when I run steam as an admin because if i dont run in admin mode I am able to barely hear the sounds but it would function normally otherwise. Please help me

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My computer is making kind of a loud whistling sound, it doesn't look like I have bad caps(on my motherboard) though.

Also I hear some sort of "disc spinning" or "fan-like sound" that's loud but it's "soft" loud(like a refrigerator/freezer makes a sort of "soft" but loud sound) makes but it's not my fans. I am guessing it could be my hard drive?

Anyone know what problem I could possibly have?

I just tried out the media center but I noticed that when playing files the sound is soft. The media center splash screen is loud when I open the program but I have to turn the volume way up to have it play normal. When I use Media Portal which is almost the same as Media Center the volume is fine. I even tried uninstalling Media Portal just in case the codecs conflict or something. Is there a setting I have to change? I configured the audio in media center for 7.1 speakers.

Sorry I posted this in the wrong section. Mods can you move it to the Media Center section. Thanks.

I sometimes hear a soft zooming sound from the pc-case. It's sort of a vibrating sound, as if the sounds is from a fan. It's usually not hard, but it keeps going on for a long time. A few times, these vibrating sounds were quite loud, for a short time. What could this sound be, and how can it be fixed? There aren't any warning messages from windows.

I use mics over Ventrilo, a teamspeak-type program for people to talk. Randomly one day people couldn't hear me; I thought it was my mic. I bought a new one on Newegg and it has the same problem. I used the 'test hardware' app on both, and found that all three mics (both ones plugged into the jack and my mic built into the laptop) can transmit sound but only when I speak really, really close to it... and even then the sound is distorted. I thought at first it was a mic jack issue but the built-in mic has the same problem which suggests otherwise.

Anyone know how I can fix it? Do I have an internal mic volume that's just set to receive only really close sounds, or is something else screwed up?

Thanks.

Hi, Try the following. Download the Realtek HD Audio installer version on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72001-72500/sp72117.exe When done, hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72001-72500/sp72105.exe When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter.  Hold down the Power button continuously for 20 seconds then release it.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  ... Go to control panel \ sound \ Recording

Make sure the volume levels are up high enough and test.

Do this with everything in recording that has a green check mark.

Also, bottom right of your screen, by the time, doubleclick the speaker icon.
Make sure everything is raised, not just the main volume.

I have a problem with the audio device of z61t-9441-a35. After I made a clean installation of Windows XP professional with SP3 patch, I found that the sound volume is too low. The speaker could produce the sound approximately half as lound as before, even the volume indicator in XP's volume control panel had been maximised, so as to the IBM's sound panel and the SoundMax's one. The driver I am using was downloaded from http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-62855 , which would be the lastest one. I would really appreciated if anyone can help me solving this issue. Hi all,

I just got a 5.1 Speakers set.
Anyway, the smart guys that designed the sound card, or drivers, dont let me use all specific jack holes to hook them up.
Instead, they force me to use mic and line out holes to get Center/Woofer and front sounds.
I need headphones and mic at least as often as speakers.

Anyway, I have a splitter device that let me connect both headphones and front speakers, also mic and Center/woofer.
Where can I find a simple application that let me switch from headphones/mic mode to 5.1 speakers mode.
I can write one myself in VB if I get the right direction where to look (Windows API?).

The best solution whould be a simple sys-tray icon that give me a menu to switch from 5.1 to headphones.
That whould set Speakers setup from desktop speakers to 5.1 speakers and mic/front checkbox you can see in C-panel/Sound and Audio device.

Thanks,
Crirus

I would say you are better off getting a new sound card with more ports. Switching liek that shoudl be built into the sound card drivers.

I freshly reinstalled my windows 7.
before and after the install,
when I watch videos on youtube.com (that's the only example atm),
the videos play great, flawless framerate, no matter the quality.
but they will randomly lockup. pause. only while in fullscreen.
high speed internet, videos have completed downloading, streaming speed isn't the issue.

if i press ESC to the video minimizes to a smaller display and works flawlessly,
if i press full screen again, the video continues flawlessly, untill 5 or 10 seconds later,
no specific time, they may more may not pause again.

no other system annoyances that i can recall.
i tried updating divx, although Ive never had to install those to watch youtube.

any ideas what could cause full screen video lockup?
ESC and a refullscreen instantly solves the issue, but i have to do it a few times throughout some videos.

reinstall java maybe? seems like I had to install java to watch youtube. i forget.

A:full screen youtube video lockup (soft soft)

I would make sure my Java script was OK. Do you run Trend A/V by any chance. This can block Java! What's you broadband speed? Does this happen at all times of the day or only at specific times?

A:Best soft to recover 3TB HDD of GPT on wondows 7 ? free soft most like

I just recently had a problem similar to yours, just mine was a bit more complex and have put it on the 'backburner' untill I have more time. I havent found a reason why my disk did 'fail' but dont worry, it can be recovered. Greg recommended this program to solve my solutions, Partition Wizard. This comes in many 'formats' Home version is what you want, it is free and allows you to do the tasks you will need. There is also a more advanced 'bootable' cd which can aslo be foudn on their website. By following this link to a video guide, you have lots of chances of recovering most-all of your data, only downside is that you must have a seperate hdd to copy the recovered files onto, be it your internal HDD or an external one. DONT COPY YOUR RESTORED FILES STRAIGHT BACK ONTO THE DRIVE as this may lead to permenante data loss. It is upto you if you choose the cd/normal one. Could i recommend you ask gregrocker to have a say in this thread as he knows alot in this area,

Hello,
Common complaint, I am working with Windows 7 on a Dell Optiplex 755, but teh issue is with the System Volume setting. When I go to the audio mixer and do the test and configuration, the SoundMax audio level is loud and clear. The problem is with the Windows system settings somewhere, is there a limiter or cap setting in teh registry that I can set to maximum?

I know that it is not the standard slide bars/levels but somewhere that Windows 7 Professional is cutting the volume on any Windows application. The drivers are fine, if I invoke the card directly it will blast the sound out. But in any application it is too soft.

Thanks

A:Windows 7, sound limit, audio card is loud Windows is soft

As you have a Dell, for proper operation you need to use the Dell supplied driver. I used to do a lot of support on the Dell forums and we found that non-Dell sound drivers either did not work or did not work correctly.

Here is the Dell Vista sound driver, it will also work with Windows 7 as it is just "Vista improved". It is for both the 32 bit and 64 bit OS versions. Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]

This is a first step. If its still not working correctly after installing the driver, the next thing is what programs you are using that are "low"? If you click on the speaker icon in the notification area (lower right) you can set the system volume level.

I must have been half asleep to fall for such a scam, but I did... when my computer seemed to be under control of a virus attack, and I could find no way out, except to purchase the software, which I did . Once able to get on the internet and research the product, I realized I had been scammed, and just paid $69.95 for a VIRUS!! Now I need simple (I'm hoping) instructions on how to remove this beast from my computer and a suggestion on a REAL Antivirus Protection that would have caught this before I fell into their trap. Please advise. Thanks dearly, Melanie

Hi, I recently had the nasty virus "Antispyware Soft" on my computer. Malwarebytes & AVG 9 took care of it. Well, my internet only works functions properly in Mozilla Firefox. Not in iTunes or Internet Explorer. And when I upload something it automatically goes to "Failure". Im just paranoid that I still have some type of virus. Please help :)

Hi,My computer hasbeen infected by the Antivirus Soft - I attempted to reboot it so I could bring up task manager and hopefully shut the "virus" off, so I could run Malwarebites, but the computer will now not reboot. I have tried booting to Safemode, Safe Mode with networking, normal mode and even with a boot cd...none of them work. With safe mode it generally just ends up rebooting itself, with normal and the boot disk it usually gives the "blue screen", sometimes with an UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME error, or sometimes just reboots again. Any ideas on what I could do? Might this thing have messed up my HD - is there a way to tell? THe computer was running Windows XP.

Hi, MGBCIL Lets give this a try. You will need a flash drive to move information from the sick computer to a working computer. It is the only way we can see the progress of our actions. Save these instructions in your flash drive as a text file (use notepad) so you can have access to these while in an external environment (PE).Here is what you need to do.Two programs to downloadFirst Download ISOBurner. Click Here for ISOBurner Instructions. Install the program, and follow the next set of steps. SecondDownload OTLPE.iso and burn to a CD using ISO Burner. NOTE: This file is 276.7MB in size so it may take some time to download. When downloaded double click and this will then open ISOBurner to burn the file to CDBoot the Non working computer using the boot CD you just created. In order to do so, the computer must be set to boot from the CD firstNote : For information click hereYour system should now display a REATOGO-X-PE desktop.Double-click on the OTLPE icon. When asked "Do you wish to load the remote registry", select YesWhen asked "Do you wish to load remote user profile(s) for scanning", select YesEnsure the box "Automatically Load All Remaining Users" is checked and press OKOTL should now start. Hello and welcome to TSF.

You appear to have two antivirus applications installed, i.e. AVG and Avira. While this may seem like greater protection, it can actually cause problems including slowdowns, system hangs and even crashes. Choose one to keep and uninstall the other.

Any antivirus program must be removed via add/remove program.
For any program that doesn't have an add/remove entry, you will have to do this:
re-install the program -> reboot -> uninstall

As stated in our pre-posting sticky...

Quote:

3. Uninstall the following via Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel:
" If you have more than one antivirus software installed, leave only ONE and uninstall the others.
" p2p programs like uTorrent, Bittorrent, LimeWire, Morpheus, etc., as they are a major conduit for malware and a likely source of your current issues. See this link

============================

After you've uninstalled one of the antivirus applications, run DDS again:
When done, DDS will open two (2) logs: DDS.txt
Attach.txt

Save both reports to your desktop.

============================

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here to your desktop. It will be a randomly named executable. Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while the scan is being performed. Do not use your computer for anything else during the scan.

Let's try creating a boot disk that may allow me to get you going:

Using OTLPE

This file is quite large, and requires a CD/DVD burner, and a blank CD on a clean machine. A USB device would be handy as well.Download and install ISOBurner. This will allow you to burn OTLPE.ISO to a bootable CD. Here are ISO Burner Instructions

Download OTLPE.iso and burn to a CD using ISO Burner Or your own burning application). NOTE: This file is 270Mb in size so it may take some time to download.
Once the download is complete, double-click on it. This will open ISOBurner to burn the file to CD.
Reboot your affected system using the boot CD you just created.

Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here

Your system should now display a REATOGO-X-PE desktop.
At this step, you should be able to save any data files to an external USB drive. Do so now, then continue.
Double-click on the OTLPE icon.
When asked "Do you wish to load the remote registry", select Yes

I also have a google redirect virus. Any search result i click on from google will take me to a results5.google site. I don't know if these two are related or not. I think one, or both, have something to do with the Mirar program which i cannot remove from my computer. I have AVG Free and Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes did remove some threats on the last scan, but i am still encountering the redirect virus and mirar is still there. While the antispyware soft isnt currently running, i'm sure its still on my computer.

Hello and welcome... You need to do all the steps. Please follow our Removal Guide here Remove Antispyware Soft (Uninstall Guide) You will move to the Automated Removal InstructionsAfter you completed that, post your scan log here, let me know how things are.The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.

Hello all! i am typing this topic on my wifes laptop because my desktop has a issue. I keep gettin errors that files are infected and my computer wont play them. Like my internet wont work because it says the site has viruses and what not on it which is false because its google or yahoo etc. It blocks everything i try to turn on...it blocked my AVG threat protector when i tried to run a scan and then i just keep gettin pop ups saying im infected and i need to unlock my subscription to antisoft protection program which i have no idea where that came from either cuz i use AVG. I tried that rkill program and it came up in a little black box and said it worked...The little green shield that is the icon for the antisoft protection program went away but if i restart my comp it comes back and i run rkill again and it takes the shield icon away once again but i cant use my web still but only this time i can actually open like aion online or wow or CS. (should have mentioned that b4 i couldnt even open my online games) However this problem still is a issue. Should i just wipe and go back to factory settings? And if i do wipe will i still have a workable windows vista?
Thanks for ur help in advance

Hi I need some help in removing antispyware soft. I tried going into safe mode with networking and using spyware doctor to remove it. I found the viruses and removed them however they keep returning after i log out and log back in. I can get rid of the process by opening task manager before it starts up and ending the process so i can access any program on my computer. I keep running scans and finding the same thing but they keep coming back, can someone help me?
