Thinkpad 20FY Yoga14, Intel RST, and Windows 1903 update

Q: Thinkpad 20FY Yoga14, Intel RST, and Windows 1903 update

I am one of those Lenovo users running into the 1903 update issue due to the IntelRST driver issue. Currently, my driver is 15.2.1020, which falls in that range of problematic drivers. Attempting a driver update via device manager gets me the expected message that I have the latest driver. Lenovo does not list my machine as having been "tested" for the 1903 update, and it does not appear that any further driver updates are forthcoming. While they don't say my 4 year old machine is "end of life" it does seem like their actions suggest that.I'm curious if anyone with my model has tried any of the suggested solutions to facilitate the update:1. update driver directly from the Intel website (17.x.x or similar)..(this seems to be the logical step, but..still, a risk) 2. rename the driver file so windows ignores it 3. other..? I'll gladly go without the update rather than risk bricking my machine or causing further issues. Thanks in advance for any useful suggestions.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have a P51 20HH and it refuses to update to Windows 10 1903 due to a complaint of an old version of the Intel RST driver.  I tried following all the instructions to update the driver at both the Intel site, and the official RST driver here on the Lenovo site for P51 downloads.  None actually did anything.  They appeared to work, but actually didn't do anything because the driver update software didn't see any hardware to update.  I turned on debug output on the driver update script and it basically said nothing was applied since there was nothing to do. In my case with the P51 20HH, the driver files are all there but there is zero evidence (Device Manger, etc) that any of them are in use.  I don't have Optane, RAID, etc.  Microsoft update sees the driver as an old version so it won't do the Windows update.  Meanwhile, the Intel driver install packages don't see the driver as usable, so it won't apply the update!  It is a lock out.  So, my solution for the P51 20HH was to rename C:\Windows\System32\drivers\iaStorA.sys to something else.   Proceed with caution with this solution, because if your machine is really using RST, this could cause your storage to become inaccessable, which might put you in a bad boot loop and require a BIOS boot to recovery media.  You should absolutely verify that Device Manager (Storage controllers) does not list anything Intel.  Renaming the driver requires admin priv... So Trying to update to Windows version 1903 and I ran into an issue. They say I need a newer Rapid Storage driver than the one that Lenovo is providing for my notebook. I am not sure what to do but I noticed people stating that the rapid storage drive is not needed and someting about the iastora.sys file and renaming it to .old. which is fine except I am not sure how to ge to this file and if there are any other steps I need to take.  I'd appreciate any thoughts and help.

Hi, A week ago I updated Windows 10 to the latest version (1903). I have Win 10 Enterprise, 64bit version. This morning I discovered that two fingers scroll on my touchpad is not working. It worked before the update. I am not even sure that I have any driver installed. I can see no options nor I have any possibility to configure anything about touch pad from Mouse and pointing devices config or from Devices in Windows System settings (there is just touchpad sensitivity combo-box and nothing else)...  The rest of touchpad is working. I have Lenovo Vantage installed, no use of any options there. Could not find any applicable solutions using Google. So I decided to try here. I could provide additional informmation if needed. Please help. Thanks. Bojan

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad P1, and I am unable to update my laptop to the latest feature update for Windows 10 (1903). My product number is 20MDCTO1WW and my BIOS is N2EET39W 1.21. My laptop is currently running the latest update for Win 10 1809. At first, I couldn't even get the option to update my laptop (after it became available for everyone). Then it appeared yesterday, so I clicked download and install, and then I got a pop-up error saying that my PC isn't ready for this update and that my PC isn't supported -- with the error message (0x80240034). When I tried to update through the update assistant previously, the assistant said that something went wrong -- with the error message (0xa0000400). I know that P1's are included in the list of compatible Lenovo devices that were tested for Win 10 1903 and my laptop's drivers and such are completely up to date through the Lenovo Vantage app. Does anyone know why my P1 isn't ready for the update and/or when it will be available for me to download and install? Thanks in advance.

Model 20DM-009GUS i bought his laptop 14 months ago, just as the year of warranty was ending I started having issues with the battery where I could only turn it on when it's plugged in. I contacted Lenovo late to find out my warranty had been out for a week so they couldn't help. I decided to deal with it as I could still use it on battery once it was on m, but now two months later I had this issue where I tried to turn it on and the keyboard light would blink on then off immediately and it doesn't turn on, not even the fan or anything. After a few attempts I got it on but once off it's happening again and I can't turn it on now. i tried unplugging the battery and doing the drain static charge thing and I saw in another topic it was a similar issue and the sw2 switch was the culprit but when I opened up the laptop there is no sw 2 switch just a square on the board that says sw2, I assumed this was a different model yoga 14. Can anyone please help me? I need this laptop to last me through college

Hi all, Got a new mSATA SSD (Kingston 240GB UV500 mSATA SUV500MS/240G 3D TLC SSD) for my X220 but I was just too lazy to migrate the OS partition from HDD to SSD. So I decided to clean install Windows 10 Version 1903 onto it. The installation went very well and Windows 10 Version 1903 just works great without any hiccup so far. The following is a quick walk-thru how to install Windows 10 Version 1903 and required drivers and software onto ThinkPad X220. 1, My ThinkPad X220 setting before installation: Upgrade the BIOS to the latest version before installation - 1.46 (8DET76WW) https://support.lenovo.com/hk/en/downloads/ds018805 2. Windows 10 License My X220 has got a Windows 10 Pro digital license already. So the digital license will be load automatically back to my X220 after the installation. 3. Where to download Windows 10 Version 1903: Go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10, use the Media Creation Tool to create a bootable USB drvie (8GB recommended) 4. Installation of Windows 10 Version 1903: Note: Please backup your data before moving forward otherwise all your data will be loss. The installation procedures are pretty much the same as the previous versions of Windows 10. Z50-70 notebook PC with Intel I7 CPU, Intel 4400 graphics, Windows 10 Home 64-bit.  I have tried twice (once a couple of months ago and once today) to install Windows 10 Update 1903.  Currently running Update 1803.  All I got was "Windows 10 Update Failed."  Note that this attempt was via a USB installation media for 1903 that was set up about 2 weeks ago. This was a decent computer when I got it (spring of 2005).  But has it reached obsolescence already? Microsoft says they will stop supporting 1803 in November of 2019.  What does that mean?  That I will no longer get annoying notifications of pending updates?  Of will some functionality be lost?History:  When installing Update 1803, ours was one of many PCs that had BSOD or do-loop failures.  I had to do a reinstall of Windows, which meant reloading all aps and documents.  After that I told Windows that my connection is metered, so *I* get to decide when to install updates. Thanks for any thoughts on this.

So my Windows 10 update screen is offering me Windows 10, version 1903. It's letting me choose when to install this update, which is really bizarre because it was forcing me to update with these large updates previously.

However I just installed the 1809 in February. Do I really need to install this update this soon? I tried to research it and it appears there are already problems with it.

Do I really have to update it again? It takes like 2+ hours to do (for me anyway)

Looking for advice/suggestions. Thanks. If not when do I need to do it or when should I do it?

We're offering this update to compatible devices, but your device isn't quite ready for it. Once your device is ready, you'll see the update available on this page. There's nothing you need to do at this time.  What else do I need to do to make my maxed out X1 Extreme eligible for this update (still under warranty also).

I just bought a brand new T480 (which ships with Windows 1809) from lenovo.com from for my son to take to university (in a week). On arrival, I ran Windows Update and Lenovo Vantage update until neither showed any futher updates available to install. So far, so good. 48 hours later, Windows Update started showing that the Windows 1903 update was available so I tried to install it too. It churne for hours (literally) but always failed to install in the end. Next I downloaded the Windows 10 Update Assistant to have it handle the update to Windows 1903. It too churned for more than an hour, but ultimately the update failed. There are no error messages given. If there's a log file containing more verbose error information, I don't know where it is. I've done some Googling and browsed this forum, but if anyone else is having this problem, they haven't posted about it. At this point, I don't mind very much the idea of doing a factory reset and reinstalling the OS from scratch, but I'd prefer to update from here. I have installed a few apps (e.g. MS Office; an FTP client; etc.), but I can reinstall them after a wipe. However, it is critically important that this notebook be in optimal condition when my son takes it away to college next week. He has some computer skills, but I don't want him to have the distraction of having to do maintenance on a brand new pc.  Any suggestions? Any questions I can answer for further troubleshooting?

Just picked up a new Thinkpad Yoga. Definitely thrilled by the specifications, it seems to be the perfect laptop for me combining dedicated graphics, 2 in 1 capability, and most importantly, a wacom pen. However, upon getting it home, I find the pen doesn't work whatsoever. Curious, I went back to Best Buy and tried the pen on the display model. That one doesn't work either.Do these have some sort of widespread issue with the digitizer pens not working? Is there any known fix for this?

I picked up a Skylake yoga 14 (model # 20FY0002US) and I'm not getting anything from the DVI or HDMI outputs on a mini-DP to HDMI/DP/DVI adapter. This is the particular adapter I tried:http://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-Thunderbolt-HDMI%C2%AE-Passive-Adapter/dp/B013Z71ZI0/ref=sr_1_9?ie... To be clear, the adapter offers DVI, HDMI, and DP outputs, only one of which works at a time. I'm not trying to plug three monitors into it. However, if I hook up a monitor via either the DVI or the HDMI outputs, the computer freezes for 15-60 seconds and nothing shows up on the external monitor. Drivers are all updated. I've tried the adapter on a Surface Pro 3 and it worked flawlessly. I've also tried it with multiple external monitors, so the problem is definitely with my ThinkPad. I've also tried DP1.1 and DP 1.2 versions of the adapter. Again, nothing out of the DVI or HDMI outputs.  Oddly enough, when I tried a simple mini-DP to VGA adapter, it worked.  What gives? This is a pretty important functionality to be missing...

A:Skylake ThinkPad Yoga 14 (20FY) mini displayport ...

I've tried two miniDP to DVI cables which neither worked.  I just bought an Apple miniDP to VGA adapter and that doesn't work either.  I've tested the monitors and they are good.  I'm assuming the cables are not the issue since I tried three.  I just read on another post that it is a design limitation that miniDP to HDMI or DVI do not work with this laptop.  I don't understand that.  However, it says that miniDP to VGA should work.  It clearly works for you.  Did you do anything other than plug the adapter in?

The actual panel seems to be perfectly fine, but obviously the touch isn't working. The laptop is only a year old, so I'd really rather replace the part than the whole thing if I can. Can just the touch screen/glass be replaced, or will it require replacing the whole assembly? I purchased the unit open box at a great price, so I'm not averse to potentially replacing the whole assembly. Thanks for any replies!

The glass is actually to touch digitizer and is bonded to the LCD, so it cannot be replaced separately.  That part can be extracted from the lid, so you don't need the whole lid, but you do need the LCD and glass.

I am running the latest drivers from Lenovo's website and I have noticed that after a while (possibly after putting my computer to sleep and waking it up again), the ETD Control Center (which must be running in order to have full touchpad functionality) will constantly use ~30% CPU. This obviously impacts battery life, but it also makes my laptop produce more heat and noise than it would otherwise, while running slower. It is undesirable behavior. I have already tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them, running the older version, or running the newer version. Nothing helps. Whenever this software is running, it does not take long before it is thrashing my CPU. Currently I am running the latest version of the software that is available on Lenovo's website, and I have updated everything possible using Lenovo's update software. I am running windows 10 and have the Elan touchpad drivers installed. So my co-worked managed to knock my laptop off my desk and it was damaged, ugh... It still functions, but has the following issues:- There's a noticable blemish on the LCD screen and it will need to be replaced- The case is cracked on the right side around a USB port- The case is cracked on the left side around the power connector, and the connector itself is bent Looks like the screen alone runs $400 on Lenovo parts site, and I don't even see case parts listed. I'd prefer to replace the parts myself, but would also be willing to go to a reapair center if I had to. I'm leaning towards replacement instead of repair, but was wondering what others more experienced in laptop repairs thought. Thanks.

A:Repair or Replace? Yoga 14 Type 20FY ThinkPad

I fix machines, so my first impression is always to fix, but you have at least 3 damaged parts (jack, panel and case).  If the jack is damaged, there may be an issue with nearby parts.  I cannot be  sure without seeing it, but my guess is that you would be better off selling the broken one on eBay and buying a different one.

The screen of my Yoga 14 ThinkPad Type 20FY touchscreen has cracked. I have a few questions on how to replace the screen.

Serial Number: XXXXXXXX                               Mod edit:  Serial number removed per forum rules
Machine Type Model: 20FY0002US

1. Can I replace the touchscreen with a non-touch screen? It looks like touchscreens are delicate and expensive. I didn't want a touchscreen but Best Buy did not have that in their store.
2. What is the part number for the screen? I need it to purchase online. Online forums suggest opening the screen to see the part number. Is there a way to see part number using model, and machine type (posted above)? I need part number of non-touch screen, if that will work with the laptop.
3. What is the cheapest and reliable place to buy a replacement screen? I plan to replace it myself.

I would be appreciative of your help.

Hello, I have a problem with my PC involving my battery. I found out what the problem was, but not how to solve it. Here is what I did:On command prompt with administrator privileges, I typed: powercfg/energy. Next, once I had and read the report, I understood the problems and errors, but not how to solve them. Can someone help me with the solutions of each of the errors according to the attached file? Thank you.   Sincerely, JayBurch1

While I like most things about my Yoga 14 notebook, it has this annoying habit of going to sleep about 1 minute, even when it's plugged into a OneLink+ docking station.   I have the OS updated to the latest Windows 10 Creator's Edition and all device drivers up-to-date.   It's done this since I bought the machine earlier this year and I haven't been able to figure-out how to get it to honor the sleep settings in Windows.   Is there a BIOS setting or something that is forcing it to go to sleep after 1 minute?
