Q: Computer slow at all times. Ocassionaly freezes. Clicking on start often freezes system completely.

Hi all,For several months my PC has been frustratingly slow. However, I have dealt with it. Now however, when I click on "start" my PC will completely freeze, not allowing me to access anything. When closing programs, the desktop slowly scrolls back onto the screen instead of instantly appearing. I wish there was more details to share but there is none to my knowledge. I have recently ran spybot S&D and ran a virus scan but it has not helped. I have followed the instructions on the preparation post and here is the data in the DDS log. I am attaching the other log files as well. Thanks for your help in advance. I know you all do quality work as I have used this site in the past for a different PC.------------- DDS log file -----------------DDS (Ver_09-12-01.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Whitney at 22:05:47.95 on Mon 12/14/2009Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.11Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.510.109 [GMT -6:00]AV: McAfee VirusScan Enterprise *On-access scanning enabled* (Updated) {918A2B0B-2C60-4016-A4AB-E868DEABF7F0}FW: Norton Internet Worm Protection *disabled* {990F9400-4CEE-43EA-A83A-D013ADD8EA6E}============== Running Processes ===============C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost -k DcomLaunchsvchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcssvchost.exesvchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\WINDOWS\ehome\ehtray.exeC:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel\atiptaxx.exeC:\Program Files\Hp\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exeC:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exeC:\Program Files\HP\QuickPlay\QPService.exeC:\Program Files\HPQ\Quick Launch Buttons\EabServr.exeC:\Program Files\hpq\HP Wireless Assistant\HP Wireless Assistant.exeC:\Program Files\ScanSoft\OmniPageSE2.0\OpwareSE2.exesvchost.exeC:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\RealPlay.exeC:\Program Files\McAfee\VirusScan Enterprise\SHSTAT.EXEC:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\ACS\AOLacsd.exeC:\Program Files\McAfee\Common Framework\UdaterUI.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\TopSpeed\2.0\aoltsmon.exeC:\Program Files\McAfee\Common Framework\McTray.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\LogiShrd\LComMgr\Communications_Helper.exeC:\Program Files\Logitech\QuickCam\Quickcam.exeC:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exeC:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exeC:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehRecvr.exeC:\Program Files\Google\Google Talk\googletalk.exeC:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehSched.exeC:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exeC:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exeC:\Program Files\Spybot - Preferred Solution: Computer slow at all times. Ocassionaly freezes. Clicking on start often freezes system completely.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Computer slow at all times. Ocassionaly freezes. Clicking on start often freezes system completely.

Welcome to the BleepingComputer Forums. Since it has been a few days since you scanned your computer with HijackThis, we will need a new HijackThis log. If you have not already downloaded Random's System Information Tool (RSIT), please download Random's System Information Tool (RSIT) by random/random which includes a HijackThis log and save it to your desktop. If you have RSIT already on your computer, please run it again. Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT. Click Continue at the disclaimer screen. Please post the contents of log.txt. Thank you for your patience. Please see Preparation Guide for use before posting about your potential Malware problem. If you have already posted this log at another forum or if you decide to seek help at another forum, please let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and taking the time of two volunteer helpers means that someone else may not be helped. Please post your HijackThis log as a reply to this thread and not as an attachment. I am always leery of opening attachments so I always request that HijackThis logs are to be posted as a reply to the thread. I do not think that you are attaching anything scary but others may do so. While we are working on your HijackThis log, please: Reply to this thread; do not start another! Do not make any changes on your computer during the cleaning process or download/add programs on your computer unless instructed to do so. Do not run any other tool until instructed to do so! Let me know if any of the links do not work or if any of the tools do not work. Tell me about problems or symptoms that occur during the fix. Do not run any other programs or open any other windows while doing a fix. Ask any questions that you have regarding the fix(es), the infection(s), the performance of your computer, etc.Thanks.

My computer freezes at completely random times even when i am not currently using it. Even when the monitors have gone to sleep it will sometimes freeze and they will not wake back up. I can not do anything at all when it freezes except hold the power button until it turns off. I can not find anything that could be triggering this and am wondering if somebody knows a way to find out why it is doing this.

A:Computer freezes at completely random times.

It could be a number of things however I would suggest looking at the hardware first and see what we find

Run Memtest to check if there is anything wrong with any of the ram sticks
http://www.memtest86.com/

download either the ISO and burn to dvd
download the USB and install to usb
or the exe and install on the machine

Download a hard drive utility from the Hard drive manufacturer and check your disks

My Dell Dimesnsion 8400 with Windows Xp is as slow as can be, sometimes taking a half hour to open one program. Multi tasking is impossible. Some times the tool bar dissapears. Tried system restore. It wouldnt do it. Had to do it with safety mode. And problem still persists. Im never buying Bitdender again. Sometimes the screen goes black if no activity for a few minutes. I have internet but the Network Magic keeps showing not connected.
The GMER program kept stalling even all windows closed and when i left it alone untouched all night long so I am not able to supply a report from it. A window kept poping up "hzm46ett.exe is not responsive". And I unchecked the IT/ET box too before the scan. It scanned a lot but in the end froze. Im supplying the other three reports. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

HP Compaq Pressario laptop
4 years old
32 bit op system
3 Gig Ram
Vista Home Basic
Service pack 1

My problems started when RegCure Pro gave me a link to an uninstall tool to remove all traces of the program because of an issue I had with it. I used the same program to uninstall something else (can't remember what - 6 weeks ago now) Then I was tidying up and noticed I had two Google Chrome shortcuts on my desktop. I dragged one of them over to the trash then a few seconds later watched in horror as all the shortcuts on my desktop vanished one by one till there was nothing left!
All my files, photos, icons - everything gone. Luckily I always log on as a user so despite losing everything I was able at least to log on as administrator but then it started to freeze every day and I could do nothing but cold boot, then eventually had to use system recovery and reformat to factory condition. Now it freezes soon after start up and I have to cold boot then system restore anything up to four times before I can get it going.
The only other thing I have noticed is that when I'm on a site innocently playing scrabble for instance, my browser has been hijacked and referred me to a sales site.
I have kept a very tidy house on this machine in the 4 years I've had it and it has typically 113GB free of 138.
Any ideas on how I can save it?

Hello, I am new to this forum, and I was not able to find the solution to my problem. My laptop running windows
7 (x64) freezes entirely, everything just becomes frozen, the fan, the screen, the mouse doesn't move etc.. I do not believe it is the cpu temperature (btw this laptop has a AMD APU); however, I am concerned that it is my HDD. I've noticed this problem a few months ago but not when starting games. The laptop would completely freeze up when logging on to a user other than the main admin, and it still does this too. And it is not only NFS shift, but also race room racing experience, so without a doubt, it's not a corrupt game file etc... I have done SFC and CHDSK with no help. I also updated to the latest AMD catalyst Omega. Not only that but I did a full registry and malware scan, as well as updated everything windows needed to update! So after that I turned on task manager while loading the game up again, and instead of hearing the disc spin and cpu usage increase, the disc didn't sound like it was spinning up and then the cpu usage dropped from around 50% to 14%. The RAM was also being used up to about 3.14 GB out of 4GB. Then it froze like usual. Thanks a lot if you can help me!

Hi,
Have you tried running some anti-spyware or anti-virus tools? If you haven't yet, try these:
If you have a fast internet connection (Broadband), run an online scan at Trend Micro or RAV Antivirus.
Please select the ?autoclean? option when using Trend Micro.

Please download Adaware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Go to this Site to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. Also make sure to Customize the settings in Adaware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

Download and install Spybot S&D. Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available. Click on 'Immunize'. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the Fix Selected Problems button. Exit Spybot. If you keep getting the DSO Exploit entries, even after you updated Windows and fixed them, then download the Spybot DSO Exploit Fix and install it over the current Spybot installation.

Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Run a scan and save the log file. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. Open up the result.txt ... Greetings!
Windows 7 freezes (unresponsive mouse/keyboard or failed startup) 5-10 times every morning when I start up the PC or after an extended period in sleep mode. I have had 2-3 instances of BSOD accompanying the freeze. Freezes occassionally happen while watching a video or playing a web game, which is accompanied by a continuous clicking or beeping sound while mouse/keyboard becomes unresponsive.

These issues began roughly around 9/25/2012 after a fairly extensive Windows 7 automated update. nVidia 3-D viewer autoinstalled around that time as well. I have also had some issues with the graphics card heating up and shutting down while plaing 'Legend of Grimrock', which, according to their forums, has an ineffective frame rate limiter.

attached is the SF diagnostic compress file. I sincerely appreciate any advice!

Hi,

I've posted a few other times in the Malware forums, never before on this form.

Lately I have been experiencing a very troublesome problem.

Often it happens shortly after booting my laptop, but it has also happened hours after.

Things will be operating normally then my desktop and toolbar will completely freeze up and will not recover from this state. If I have a firefox browser open at the time, it is possible for me to continue using it but it eventually will also freeze.

Ctl+Alt+Delete key combo does nothing and I am forced to power down and reboot.

I do frequent malware scans using MBAM, Super-AntiSpyware and have auto-update AVG Anti-Virus. All come back clean, so I'm confident it's not a virus/malware issue.

I just really have no idea where to begin troubleshooting this issue. I can tell you that analysis of the System, and Application event logs show nothing that alarming that could relate to this issue (although I could be looking past something).

Any help you can provide to help me deal with this issue will be greatly apppreciated!

I tried to look for that dmp file but didn't find it.

I'm lost here. I've updated all the drivers I can think of, temperatures are fine, BIOS updated to the latest a month ago, no antivirus or spyware that I can find.. And interestingly, this crashing doesn't happen during things that require intense amounts of power like gaming or recording audio. Instead, I usually get it when I have plenty of browsers open or when using skype. I ran memtest86+ and windows memory diagnostics too and they came out with nothing.

Oh yes, there is one more thing: my firewire audio interface has started to jump out of sync for a second every now and then, which is something that didn't happen before.

The sync problem started when I added a new cpu and gpu, but the system didn't crash all the time, that habit was formed a bit later.

If anyone can give any pointers of what I could try next I'd be more than happy.

Thank you in advance!

My computer is an HP pavilion dv7 1260us and I'm using windows vista 64 bit. Today my computer froze while running a complete scan using AVG free edition. I turned off the laptop using the power button and ever since then, my desktop keeps freezing up Ina way. Any time i click on an icon or the start menu after the desktop has loaded, the mouse icon turns into the busy symbol. The task manager won't open either after I press ctrl +alt + del. I have tried restarting my computer in safe mode and running the avg scan again but that either causes the computer to overheat and shut down or the computer freezes up halfway through the scan. I ran chkdsk once which took about 5 hours to complete and I am still having problems. The only thing I have downloaded/updated recently has been ccleaner which I did earlier in the day. Could having this program along with AVG be causing my computer to freeze up? I've had both these programs on my computer for about a year without any problems.

Every time I attempt to shut down or restart windows XP, it will freeze completely at the time the screen says "windows is now shutting down". The only way to continue is to hold the power button down until it turns off. I've gone through a couple of power supplies and wonder if I have something in the wrong position or missing files. Any help is appreciated.

The most comon cause of the problem you describe is a device driver or .dll file that window doesnt like. did you install or uninstall and software or hardware prior to this starting?

Hi,
I bought a new Dell Vostro 3450 laptop with Ubuntu installed on it, removed Ubuntu, made new partitions and installed Windows 7 Professional SP1 64bit on a primary partition. Then I installed all the drivers recommended on the dell's drivers' website. Just after doing that whenever I log into the windows it freezes after 15-45 seconds. When it freezes pointer does not move and I am also unable to open windows task manager. The only option is forced shutdown.

1. First I thought it's a wrong driver installation problem because there were a lot of drivers available on Dell's website for the WLAN and Bluetooth. So I completely uninstalled all the drivers for Bluetooth and WLAN, installed Everest Ultimate Edition and checked the exact hardware, installed the specific drivers. Even then the problem was not solved.
2. Then I thought it's due to the Catalyst Control Center (ATI's tool to manage switchable graphics card). My laptop has integrated Intel HD graphics and ATI Radeon HD 6630M graphics card. So I removed Catalyst Control Center from startup services by going to msconfig -> Startup. (I was able to do this by running the Windows in Safe Mode) Even then there was no improvement.
3. Then I thought it is due to Microsoft Security Essentials so I removed it in startup and it did not even work as well.
4. So I removed a lot of services one by one and saw whether the system freezes or not but all of the combinations failed.
5. Finally the Windows stopped freezing when I hav... Read more

A:System completely freezes after logging into Windows 7

Adrastos, Hello and welcome to Sevenforums!

Try slowly one-by-one enabling the startup programs and until you experience the problem (You may have to restart after each one). This may take some time. I recommend going through your startup folder and removing all programs that you do not need to startup when windows starts up. It will be in your all programs in the start menu.

After you find the problem startup program, enable everything else except the problem startup program, and see if it freezes or not. Post back wether or not this works for you

Welcome to BC, hoodibaba

Well, First we need to know some information like make, model of computer and system specs like processor, Ram, video card etc actually as much as you can get us. Also Does this happen no matter what you do? It is important that you send how much RAM you have the most common cause of this is a problem with RAM or not enough.

I have had this issue for awhile, it comes and goes.

I will be playing a computer game, it can be anything from world of warcraft to counter strike and occasionally the computer will freeze. As far as I can tell it will not respond to keyboard input or mouse movements, I do not hear any sounds when it freezes and the monitor will be frozen on whatever window is active at the time.

The only thing I can do at this point is restart the computer and shut down the computer. Upon doing either while the computer boots up it will freeze at random points (windows icon, log in screen, sometimes while the bios is loading).

Not sure if this makes any sense but if I shut down the computer and unplug the power supply and plug it back in then turn the computer on, it usually boots without freezing. I really doubt its an overheating problem because I do not let the computer cool down between restarts or the unplug/plug thing but I am open to all suggestions.

Hello,

My pc keeps freezing after the start up, even in safe mode it freezes which leads me to believe that the problem is hardware related ?!

I have changed my memory ram sticks, I have re installed windows 7, i have checked all fans ( they all seem to work), and the computer just freezes, nothing works, not even the task manager, or the light on caps lock. Although when it freezes I notice a difference in the noise that the computer makes.

Sometimes, out of the blue while playing a game, my computer decides to completly freeze on me. My music stops playing, everything is froze, even my mouse won't move. I have a fairly new computer, about 6 months old, and wondering why it would be doing this. The only game it seems to do it in is flash based, so I was thinking that might be the problem.

Could the problem be that I got a different kind of RAM then what came with the computer? It's an Alienware computer, so if there is a problem in the hardware side I would hope this could be the only thing wrong with it.

So, what other info do you guys need to see, I am completly stumped as to how to fix this problem.

A:Computer Freezes Completely

Hi,

You reallly need to list your specs including motherboard, cpu, video card, brand name and wattage of your power supply, drives....etc. etc. etc....you get the picture.

In the meantime, I would suggest that you monitor and list your temps for at-rest and under-stress usage. Another crucial area is that you need to check your voltages for this computer. Most modern day motherboards (since we don't know what you have, can't tell) have a program that will tell these readings. However, if yours does not, here are a couple of free programs that will help.

Sandra Lite Utility

http://www.download.com/3000-2086-10018691.html

or

Speedfan will tell you the temperatures and a whole lot more. It's free

http://www.sofotex.com/SpeedFan-download_L4655.html

or

http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

This information should help us to pinpoint possible causes of your problem.

Hi there people, don't know if this is the right section of the forum for this thread. But since i've got no idea what the hell is happening, i figured this should do it. My computer completely stops! It freezes and nothing works. My mouse don't work i can't even turn my NUM LOCK on/off. Also i hear a strange noise (not in the cpu, but in my headphones) after that happens. The only thing i can do is turn off my computer. But one thing i've noticed is that after this happens, when i try to turn my pc on again, it doesn't make that *bip* from the boot. So i have to turn it off and on again, and when it boots for the first time, after this event, it freezes again while booting... So i turn it off/on again, and it works ok. At least for a while Please guys, i need help! My specs are: Asus P8H61, I5-2300, Radeon HD 5670, 2x4gb Kingstom. Sorry for bad english

So I went from windows 7 and did a fresh instal of Win Vista. Since I backdated my computer will start black screen and lock up.. It did it so often I did a search for the problem.. Best result I could find was to do a complete restore and format the Hard drive in the process. I did that. I put in the win 7 disc, restarted the computer.. Started the reboot process and formatted the drive before install.. Everything worked fine for a couple hours then the problem started again.. The computer will flash black and when it comes back to the screen Explorer is completely frozen and the mouse will move around but very sluggish and you cant click on anything.. Keyboard also does not work at all.. I have done several restarts.. Nothing helps..
When I go into safe mode it works fine, never have the problem.. I did the Hjack and here are the specs..

Okay well, to put it shortly, I'm not too sure what to do with this issue I have. I recently upgraded both my motherboard to an Asus M5a99FX PRO R2.0 and my CPU to an AMD FX 8350 and I've been experiencing some complete freezes playing games like Battlefield 4, Shadow Warrior and Skyrim. In my old build (with a Gigabyte 880GM-USB3L and a Phenom II x4 955BE) the same games would perform okay and I never really experienced any crashes or freezes.

The problem now is that at what are apparently random intervals no longer than 15 minutes during gaming my cpmputer will completely freeze, audio stops, I cannot open the task manager and I even tried toggling Caps Lock and the LED on my keyboard wouldn't toggle. I would leave it stuck there for a couple of minute but nothing would happen, forcing me to hard reset the system.

I can use the computer for regular browsing and video streaming (I think I can alsop play some older games without freezing) without freezes too, which is kind of odd.

My PC specs would be:
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bitMobo: Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0CPU: AMD FX-8350 (not overclocked)GPU: Nvidia GTX 660Ti GC 3GB (not overclocked either)Memory: 2 modules of some 4GB Kingston KVR1333D3N9/4G
PSU: Thermaltake TR2 RX 650W
HDD: Seagate ST2000DM001 (2TB)
So far what I've done to try to find a solution to the freezing is rolling back video drivers, then installing the most recent ones again, upgrading to the most recent version of the BIOS for my mobo and my chipset drivers,... Read more

Check Asus for updated motherboard driver's and uefi updates. Also, after that check for video card driver updates and game updates. Also, you may need to manually enter your correct ram timings in the uefi. Here's the download link for your mobo for 8.1 drivers, software and uefi : ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download M5A99FX PRO R2.0

I know similar problems have been reported on this forum and all over the web, but still I would like to share my experience and hear others' opinions about it, as in this case, maybe the problem starts from the NIC.

System:

MB: ASUS M5A97 R2.0
CPU: AMD FX 4100 Quad Core 3.60 GHz
RAM: 8 GB (2x4GB) 1866MHz
GRAPHICS: ATI Radeon 4850 HD
HD: 2 TB
NIC: (Integrated) Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

OS: Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit

The problem:

Computer becomes completely unresponsive; no BSOD, no error dialogs nor any sign of computer being informed about it's own unresponsiveness, it simply won't do anything and won't obey to any keyboard command. The only option is hard reset, after which everything works fine before next freeze.

Time between log-on and freeze varies.

I don't know how to describe the problem more clearly, please ask if anything is unclear.

The story:

I built this computer about a month ago. Very soon, I started to come up to abovely described problem 2 or 3 times a day.

At first I assumed it had something to do with watching videos online with Google Chrome as several times the crash coincided with youtube or similar websites running on one of the tabs. I also uninstalled Internet Download Manager as some would complain it was crashing their browsers (but obviusly that's a different problem and has something to do with its broswer integration feature, which I had disabled anyway).

Later I was convinced (by this thread: http:/... Read more

Hello, I am having problems with my computer where it will freeze and not respond to anything I do short of a hard restart.
Everything is frozen, my mouse won't move, no buttons work either. Everything just stops.
It happens in a variety of situations: -While playing video games
-While running AdAware or Ewido security scans
-While mixing down the music I write in nuendo

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi everyone,

I ran ADW about a week ago, and it was not-responding and froze my computer. I ran 2 different times today, and it was also not-responding and again completely froze my computer when cleaning. I had to hard boot, because I had no choice.
1.Does anybody else experience this trouble with ADW, or just me??

2. Is there other source, not bleeping computer, to download it from, or it would not make any difference???

My Norton says ADW is safe for downloading. But it's unusable at this point.

Thanks for your help in advance, guys.

My computer keeps freezing at random times. This freeze lasts until I reboot my computer. I've reinstalled all my drivers, except my motherboard or BIOS as I couldn't find them (here). This freezing has been happening for a good month and a half. Actually, ever since I've installed multiple new parts. The new parts I installed were a new FX-6300, motherboard, 8GB DRR3 RAM. My graphics card is a old HD 4000 series. I had a 600w power supply, but it blew so now I'm using a 450w power supply until I have the money to order a new one.

I was thinking it was the power supply causing the freezes because it might not have enough power to handle my computer. People also have suggested it being the RAM or the Hard Drive. Others have suggested it being Windows or the drivers. I don't think it's the drivers (I wish it was). I am going to reinstall Windows and hopefully that will fix it. I can't do that right now though because I do not have a USB or disc to do so. I'm completely lost on this.

When I say my computer 'randomly' freezes though, I want to emphasize the word randomly. Sometimes I'll have a video game open, Adobe Illustrator open, a Twitch stream running, with VLC media player playing music and a couple browser tabs open, while talking in RaidCall and it'll be fine for hours on end. Then the next time it freezes, I'll reboot and right after I hit my desktop, it'll freeze a couple seconds after that. Sometimes it'll do this for 5 times under a hour, maybe even h... Read more

A:Computer completely locks up (freezes)

This is a Custom-built system then. Sounds like your Power Supply is undersized for a custom-build Six-Core in my opinion. What Brand and Model is your Supply? Also, what Make/Model is your hard drive. That's the most common cause of freezing. Download Seatools or Datalifeguard from my signature and test. Also, download and Run Memtest. Corsair RAM is good; make sure to run it for at least 24 hrs. continously with no external usb devices other than usb keyboard or mouse plugged into computer.

You're troubleshooting leaves a little room to improve--so post back your results of those tests and we'll advise you further. This problem is more endemic of OEM (brand-name) built desktops and laptops after they get to be about 3 yrs. old or more.

My computer was fine until I wanted to print a page from Word. It kept on printing the same page over and over again. When I wanted to stop it by going into my printer, the computer would hang (hourglass) and I have to close down. Now, when I want to go into my printer, it will not let me and keeps hanging. I have Windows XP Home Edition and an HP 1012 laserjet printer.

I have a problem where anytime I try to open(double click) a word, excel, pdf file icon etc. The computer freezes almost completely for about 4 minutes. Strangely when I disable the network connection the problem goes away. Files open immediately when you go to word and hit open file in the file menu. The computer is on a domain but this happens on both local and network folder files. Logged in as administrator and it does the same. None of this happens when logged into another machine. Recently upgraded to office 2007, but have unistalled and re-installed and tried 2003 and the problem remains. Running out of ideas, switched the NIC card today but that did not help either. This is a fairly new dell with XP. Thanks in advance-JV
