GPO issues with Lenovo System Update

Q: GPO issues with Lenovo System Update

Hello! I'm a bit new to GPOs and working on the server so please forgive misleading terms if I mention something that's not quite correct, but I'm trying to configure Lenovo System Update to run automatically in the background, with very little user input. We want the laptops to just grab updates directly from Lenovo so they get the latest and greatest. So when I move the ADM to the directory, this error pops up. I've been doing some research online before posting this query, but I haven't found anything that I understand that points me at a possible solution. If any of you out there in Lenovo Forum land know what I might do to fix this, I'd appreciate it! Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, In our organization we have a VPN client that is sensative to driver versions.  We have noticed Lenovo System Update is only updating the Lenovo T470 Wireless-AC 8265 drivers to a certain point and has stopped.  That we could tell there did seem to be a problem as previously there was a rapid succession of updates for our T470's and the wireless NICs to a certain point.T470 - 20HES09L00 Would it be possible to have this driver updated? 2018/09/03 - v20.70.3.3 - Lenovo2019/03/06 - v20.120.1.1 - Intel  Thank you,Tony H.

A:Lenovo T470 - Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 - Lenovo System Update - Wireless AC Driver Update

I noticed this apparent divergence on my T480, so I manually installed thev20.120.1.1 driver direct from the  Intel site. When it got done installing, Device manager (Windows 10 Pro 64-bit) reported that I STILL was using the same version as offered by Lenovo:  v20.70.3.3 - Lenovo

I hope this is the correct place to post - did not see a E series in the ThinkPad Board... I am getting an error when trying to update to Lenovo System Update version 5.07.0065.I recently upgraded the computer form Windows 7 to Windows 10. Trying to make sure my drivers were up-to-date I ran across the newer version of the System Update app. When I tried to install, it gave me this error:The old version is now none existant in Programs and Features. Any ideas? Hello,I have a Lenovo Thinkpad W540 which is out of warranty.  While using the Lenovo System Update utility to update the BIOS, the BIOS update failed, and now my W540 will no longer boot.  Is there a way to restore the BIOS without replacing the system board? Is there a place where can I download the BIOS file (not only the upgrade utility)? Thank you!

I've been getting the "Thread Stuck in Driver" BSOD when playing games for several months now and have just been trying to ignore it. However, it's gotten too bad to be ignored any longer. I've been trying to download a BIOS update (as another thread on this topic suggested) but the System Update program refuses to download the BIOS update it says I need every single time. I can provide more info on my system if necessary.  Thanks for the help.

What is happening with Lenovo System Update? We are getting an error that the package catalog is being updated? We have several models here and its happening on all of them. I can't find anything relating to this update on any Lenovo site, and the response I got from calling support was "Sorry." They were also not able to tell me when they think this will be fixed. EDIT: Spelling.

Hello!! Hope everyone is doing well. Just wanted to add in my 2cents on this touchpad issue. I realized that it has to do with the cursor moving at faster speeds (which most of us probably have set). In the settings app, if you put the cursor speed to anything higher than 6, the delay we're seeing becomes pronounced. The delay doesn't go away really, but the faster you have the cursor set, the worse it is. I've noticed that putting at 6 has made using the touchpad much more bearable ... There has to be a reason the touchpad delays like this?? If anyone from Lenovo could please take a look at this, we would all appreciate it a lot. For context, my 910 never had this issue, so maybe it has to do with the pen/digitizer? I'm not sure and have had no luck figuring out. Hope this is helpful to figuring out what's going on!

I just installed the new windows update after months of my computer failing to do the update due to the antivirus protector not compatible with the new iOS. I uninstalled the old antivirus and did the update (as of two weeks ago). Ever since the new update my computer runs extremely slow, freezes constantly, having to reboot 3-6 times a day, can't run certain programs before the update. I have taken in to the IT department where I attend school, they were able to clean and get rid of a lot of unused apps install a different antivirus. Unfortunately, this didn't help. Any ideas why this is happening? Never had any issues with my Lenovo.

The recent Windows Anniversary Update has produced several major issues with my 2 year old B750 AIO.  First the audio became very scratchy.  That was fixed by going to the RealTek site and getting drivers for this update.  Issues remaining seem to involve things on my task bar:  There is a message symbol showing, but it will not open to see what it is.  At the speaker volume symbol, I can't raise or lower the volume.  Cortana will not respond to voice or typing in the box on the task bar.  I also tried to open the Lenovo support screen, but it will not open.  There could be many other items not working, that I have not discovered yet. How should I go about getting these things working again?

It has come to my attention that Windows 10 FCU (version 1709) issues may stem from an incompatibility with some machines.  If you are running 1703 and it is stable, then pause feature updates in the Settings/Update & Security/Windows Update/Advanced Options selection.  This is only a temporary pause of about a week, but you can edit the registry for a permanent block.  See MSFT support for this option.  I don't want to give out instructions because I do not want to be responsible for someone screwing up their registry, but it involves deleting the NoAutoUpdate entry.  Then wait for Lenovo to update your system to be compatible with this new  1709 Update.

If you have updated to 1709 and have issues, you can roll back to 1703 by using the Recovery option.

So I should preface this by saying that I managed to fix the issue, however I thought it would be useful if this was posted so others with the same problem can potentially fix their computer. So earlier today I updated my computer to the most recent windows 10 release (version 1703). Upon updating I noticed that my keyboard seemed to be having issues. It wasn't completely non-functioning, however it seemed to be having trouble picking up some keystrokes. As far as I could tell these seemed to be random and randomly timed (roughly every 3-4th keystroke was being missed). Updating drivers and using the standard windows troubleshooter picked up nothing. However other forums noted that it could be the BIOS not being completely up to date. I tried this and it worked! This is the link I used: http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/tablets/yoga-series/yoga-book/downloads It should detect the model of laptop you use - just click on "Scan Update" and it will pick up whether you need a BIOS update - just follow the instructions from there. It is crucial though that the correct BIOS for your model is used however. Hope this helps someone!

Hi Lenovo Forum,I wanted to ask for help and advice on whether there is a need for my Flex 4 laptop to update its BIOS.It's my first time opening the Lenovo companion app that came with the laptop and I noticed that there is one critical update.  Here is the installation history: Here is the system info from the companion app Now my question is, do I have to update this or simply ignore it?Just to clarify, I'm not really a tech savvy person. I am unsure if this is safe or not. I read from other sites that updating the BIOS may have risks of bricking the laptop and make it unusable. So, I really need help if I should proceed with the update or leave as it is. The current situation right now is, everything seems to be working fine. I am near my warranty expiration. The only complaints that I have is that whenever I leave my laptop and set it to sleep by 11PM, I open it the next morning and the battery is all drained to 1%. This does not happen all the time, but for it may happen quite frequently. Here is my battery information And one other complain is that, even if I set it to sleep mode, sometimes, I do hear the laptop fan go really loud. I am also not sure why that happens. But I hope all my additional information would be helpful on determining if my computer has issues and if I do really need to update the BIOS. Any type of help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hey everyone, I am facing troubles installing the newest drivers for the graphics adapter. First of all basic information about my machine. Lenovo Thinkpad W541 OS- Windows 7 Ultimate, Service Pack 1 System- Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4710MQ CPU @ 2,50GHz 2,50GHz- Installed memory: 16,0 GB- System tpye: 64-bit Operating System Dispaly adapters- Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600- NVIDIA Quadro K2100MAbove you can see the current driver versions of the display adapters. Unfortunately installing the driver update for display adapters from the lenovo support page (https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/se/de/downloads/ds037642) didn't work. Once I got a BSOD after rebooting and the other time the driver versions just stayed the same without change. Situations when I feel that something is wrong with the drivers are for instance when I want to launch a game. After launching the game,  the screen turns immediately black and I fall back to the desktop. When launching another game, the screen just flickers black and white.  I would be grateful if somebody could help me with that matter since after hours of research I haven't been able to solve the problem myself.  Please let me know if more information is required.  Cheers,Simon

I upgraded to Windows 10 on my ThinkPad Twist. After that, I ran Lenovo's System Update and downloaded and installed all the recommended updates. Now when I reboot I get a message saying that C:\Program Files (X86)\Thinkpad\Utilities\PWMTR64V.dll is missing. Searching the Lenovo support site for this DLL file name shows that it is related to Windows 7 Power Management. However, one of the updates from Lenovo was Power Management for Windows 10. I am hesitant to install the Power Management update for Windows 7 (which I'm guessing will solve my missing DLL problem, but maybe not) after installing such an update specific to Windows 10. But I don't want to have to have that popup message about a missing DLL every time I boot. Anyone know how I can resolved this?

A:Missing DLL after Lenovo System Update

I have a T540p (x64) and am also getting the PWMTR64V.dll that started fairly recently. It's also been updated to Windows 10 (last year), and like you, given the fix apparently relates to a Windows 7 process, I'm reluctant to update/install it. I went to the pages suggested by the original solution, but both throw 404s. Not real sure where to go with this either, and on the assumption it's a bogus error for this OS/machine, I'd just as soon like to have it stop prompting if possible. elaine

In addition, it says that it is a Lenovo System Update(32 bit), while I know that my system runs on 64 bit. My questions are:1. How long should a system update take?2. Is it normal that the system update is 32 bit?3. If it is not normal, how do I stop the system update and how do I run a 64 bit one?Thank you!

Lenovo Security Advisory: LEN-2015-011
Potential Impact: Execution of arbitrary code
Severity: Medium

Summary:
Multiple vulnerabilities have been identified within Lenovo System Update (previously known as ThinkVantage System Update). Lenovo has released a new version of the Lenovo System Update software that addresses these vulnerabilities.

Description:
Lenovo System Update validates all system update files as they are downloaded from the Lenovo servers. However, if the local system contains malware, it is possible that the downloaded updates could be altered before installation creating a race condition. The latest Lenovo System Update release eliminates this possibility. Lenovo System Update uses a service called SUService.exe to run system updates. As part of the authentication and validation process the service only accepts commands if a valid security token is passed along with the command. Vulnerabilities were discovered on how the security tokens were generated allowing an attacker to run commands. The latest Lenovo System Update release fixes the token authentication flaws.
Other security issues were also addressed in this update.
Mitigation Strategy for Customers (what you should do to protect yourself):
Starting from April 1, 2015, run Lenovo System Update and install the latest version of the application, version 5.06.0034 or later. You can determine the currently installed version by opening Lenovo System Update, clicking on the green question mark in the ... Read more

Lenovo Vantage has a selecton for system update and I have been using that. Today, out of the blue, a stand-alone application called "Lenovo System Update" was installed. Why? What does it get me that I don't already have as part of Lenovo Vantage? What happens if I uninstall it?There is one update that it says can't be installed: Intel Graphics Driver. I am offerd the option of installing it manually. I am reluctant to do that: If Lenovo Update can't install it, how can I do better? The Lenovo Vantage update process also will not install it but does not give me the manual option.ASSIDE: The interface is confusing. Selecting "Next" does not do an install. I have to first select "download." If that's the next step, why doesn't "next" get me there? ASSIDE #2: The above has a numbered list but after I post that formatting is gone. When re-editing it shows as a numbered list (good) but after posting it does not (bad).

I've used the update app several times since March 30th, but I am still running 1.82.00.07 when I should be running 1.82.0.14 or later.C) Is there a delay in making the updates available thru the apps vs when they become available via the site? Please advise. I'd like to have to follow only 1 update information source, preferably the standard windows (non metro) app, since I can't hide updates in the metro app.

Hi everyone. Forgive me if this is in the wrong subject area...but I have several issues. Typing this via my phone as my PC is frustrating me that much 😡

I have been unable to update since June (including leaving it checking/downloading untouched for 24hrs!) and recently my PC started getting temperamental. SFC says there's nothing wrong and no corrupt files, yet certain things won't run saying I have no administration and my startup folder has totally disappeared. Normally an update solves any problems I have...well, not this time!

I've tried EVERY hint, tip and guide I can find online to get the update installer to actually work, I have also tried to download the KB files mentioned by many, yet they just will not do anything. When I try the KB files it just sits detecting for several hours. I have even tried to upgrade to win10 and that won't even work either (sticks at 99%, but many others have had that problem too).

I really don't want to do a factory reset or be forced to do that and then up to 10 😞 any advice would be much appreciated.

Hello. I have various issues that need to be address. First of all I have 2 Lenovo P50 laptops. On many occassions during bootup my laptop hangs at the beginning showing the Lenovo logo boot screen. The only way to pass this is to take out all usbs. Is there a work around for this? I changed settings of bootup order in bios to no avail. Secondly after an update at the beginning of May I am unable to use my Ata2020 microphone utilising Asio4all in Cubase. The strange thing it works with only the realtek or the ur12 but all sounds stop when enabling the microphone. In the past maybe 3 weeks ago there were no problems using asio4all. The only way to make it work is using the default full duplex asio driver. I tried to roll back nvidia and sound drivers to no avail, I would like to download and older driver of realtek but do not see it anywhere on the website. Thanks.
