I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,I just formatted my Laptop after switching hard disks.I bought a hybrid 2TB Hard drive (with 8GB SSD built in inside) And I know the Y500 has a 16GB SSD built in as well.So now my D drive is the 16GB SSD.Windows is intalled in C drive (the normal HDD) In the past I haven't used it at all,But I wonder now how should I ? Do I just install important applications on my D drive instead of C drive?Or there is more to it? Thank you in advance,Elad.

I'm looking around to sell my laptop but I'm not sure what price to sell it at. Best buy would buy it at $150, which doesn't seem accurate at all. Others are selling it around $700 on Amazon.Com, which seems like too much for a used laptop? Any help please would be appreciated.

Hi,  I tried to power up laptop. It would not power up. just white blinking light. I tried most recommendations i found online, like unplug power adapter, batter, hit button 10 seconds, 15 seconds 30 seconds, remove ram nothgint works.  I removed back cover. unplugged i guess the power port. then blinking light went away, I thought maybe it's stuck in sleep mode. It was defintily dead. plugged back in power port. The blinking light came back. the fan spans. just computer does not boot up. What are the odds both batter and power adapter both dead.  thanks for your help,

Hi guys, this is my first post in these forums. Now, I searched a lot for a solution to my problem, but now I'm creating this thread.I got a Lenovo Ideapad Y500, and it worked really well for like a month, then I started hearing this really loud whirring noise and some vibration coming from the left side of the laptop, near the heat vents. I shut my laptop off and when I turned it backon It was gone. But now the noise is back and whenever I reboot my laptop is goes away but then it comes back after a while. Also, whenever I run the dust removal thingy in the Lenovo energy management app, It gets really loud then it goes away.I don't really feel lots of air coming out from the vent on the leftside of the laptop. I think it might be a fan problem but my laptop stays around 45-65 Celsius mostly. I don't know how hot it runs when I play games, though. Any help on this unnatural whirring sound that starts after a while is really appreciated.

In a nutshell, I noticed that my laptop screen would randomly start turning off for no reason while the laptop was still running. The "fix" for this would be to open the laptop up farther. Eventually, only the most wide-open orientation would allow the screen to display, and even that has ceased to work consistently. So I have read other posts about display issues that are common, so I will try to be as specific as I can. THIS IS NOT:  A software issue, as best I can tell. My screen does not show lines or strange patterns, it just goes black. And I don't mean the display goes  blank, it actually turns off. No light. A screen issue, I don't think. The screen displays perfectly well for short periods, and then just cuts off. It seems to be effected by the position of the display (e.g. How open the laptop is). I have to open the laptop as far as it will go for best effect, and even then, the screen will simply shut off after several minutes. Sometimes I can find a "sweet spot", and get the display to function for an hour or more, so long as I don't jostle the laptop more forcefully than using keystrokes. A GPU issue. I have hooked up the laptop, during period of screen blackness, to an external display. Everything shows up fine, which I understand would not happen if the GPU was having problems. MY MAIN QUESTION FOR THOSE SMARTER AND MORE SKILLED THAN I:Is the issue likely a loose screen cable, or something similar? Something that would cau... Read more

I have a lenovo ideapad y500 with a 1366x768 screen, and I am looking to pop open the screen, and replace the panel with a 1920x1080 screen. Assuming that I purchase another 15.6 inch screen (size of the original screen), is this possible? A model of the y500 is sold with a 1080p display, and the graphics card in my model is more than capable of outputting such a resolution. I was just wondering if there is a chance that the connections between my laptop and new screen would not match as I do not know if there is some sort of standard port with screens. Thanks!

A:Screen upgrade lenovo ideapad y500

You would need to find out the exact model of the 1080p screen was that was sold with that model and order the same one or compatible replacement model. Laptop screens are not universally interchangeable and you can't just buy any screen and connect it.

So, long story short. I accidentally deleted my recovery partition and now it seems like the only thing that will get my laptop up and running normally again is a recovery disc from Lenovo. I just got off the phone with customer service and they informed me that recovery discs can not be ordered in USB form.  This is where my main issue is. My Lenovo Ideapad Y500 laptop did not come with a CD-ROM Drive. With that being said, I do not want to spend $69 on a recovery disc that will require me to purchase an external CD-ROM drive that potentially won't even work... When I asked customer support if I could return and get a refund for the disc if it will not boot through an external CD-ROM drive, they said no. Has anyone been able to run a recovery disc from an external cd-rom drive successfully? Any suggestions? I'm at my wit's end with this thing...

Okay so, I got my Lenovo Ideapad Y500 a couple days ago. Liked it and all BUT when I had my mouse connected into the laptop and then turned off the touchpad, it would not turn back on. The only way I could get my touchpad to work again is by restarting the computer, which is pretty frustrating. I searched this: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?   for ANY drivers/software for the Y500 mousepad and there are none. Can anyone help me fix this problem before I get a refund from this potentially bad purchase? FN + F6 toggles the touchpad on and off and I have tried to turn it on and off, with and without the external mouse connected. Thanks for the help.

I've been using this laptop for a few years now, and while it has its fair share of small problems (track pad not working, keyboard coming loose and sometimes not working, speakers slowly dying, start ups where the screen doesn't turn on.) Despite those issues I always found a way to either fix or at least work around the problems until today.I was just watching YouTube videos when the laptop without any warning shut off instantly, even though it was plugged in, and mostly charged. After that none of the power lights would go on at all, not even the charging one. I tried unplugging it, removing the battery, holding down the power button for 30 second, and every combination of those steps I could think of. Is there any hope of saving this laptop, or is it bricked?

Hello. As the title says, my Ideapad Y500 is starting to have some issues. A week ago it refused to shut down. Screen would turn off but not the laptop, which would remain kind of dormant. Following some advice online I uninstalled Express Cache form the Control Panel. Now the system turns off, but I have a new problem, this time booting up.Whenever I boot up the laptop it goes to the Lenovo splash screen, then black, then resets to the splash screen and stays there forever. If I shut it down manually and then boot it up again, it goes to Windows as it should, but the whole process takes from 2 to 10 minutes. If I try to restart the system, same thing happens.  If I keep doing this I fear one day it will just die on me.Added to this, I've been getting intermitent failures of the Intel RST software, which sometimes just won't work at all. Other times it's fine. I read somewhere I should update the drivers but I don't know where to find them or if hey may harm my pc even more.I'm running Windows 8.1 (64 bits). So far, besides uninstallid Express Cache, I have run chkdsk on both disks on my system and they appear to be fine (or at least nothing comes up when running the scan). Beyond this, I have no clue how to proceed. I'm not a especially tech savvy person, so any help you guys might give me will be greatly appreciated it. Also, if you can explain it as clear and simply as possible, it would be that much better. Thanks a lot!

Hello Lenovo Community,I currently have a Lenovo Y500 Ideapad. I personally love the processing power of my laptop and have found it to satisfy most of my needs. The problem I seem to be having is with the quality of the keyboard. After about a month after purchase, one of my keys (the F key) seemed to have fallen off. I noticed after examining it that the plastic that holds the keys on simply snapped off (about 5mm of cheap plastic to hold the keys on). I sent it in and have recieved a whole new keyboard within a week. 3 weeks later and my S key has broken again. I do have warranty on it but it is a pain to sendit in EVERY 3 weeks to get a single key fixed. I was wondering if this was simply my bad luck or poor Lenovo keyboard design. I am considering returning my computer or scrapping it to get a new one with better quality. Someone let me know if it's just me that is experience this or if Lenovo has serious issues with their key design.Sincerely,Angry Lenovo Customer.

I'm assuming you have win 8. Try this:On the Windows 8 Start Screen, press CNTL + ALT + DEL.On the next screen select the Power icon located in the lower Right. When the options appear, press the SHIFT key and select "Restart". When the next screen appears, select "Turn off your PC". The unit will power down completely.See if you still have the battery draining.Note: Even if the unit is off, a little drain is expected to maintain the clock, etc.

I have an Ideadpad Y500 (Model 20193) running Windows 8.1. It has the original/factory 15gb mSATA SSD and ~1tb conventional SATA HDD. The two drives (SSD and HDD) are managed by Intel Rapid Storage, a sort of software RAID management utility. Although Windows Disk Management (via Control Panel \ Administrative Tools) sees the two drives as separate devices (see below), they are in a RAID, so to normal Windows, they just look like a single HDD. I want to remove the SSD from the RAID. It is throwing frequent errors. My Windows Event Viewer (via Control Panel \ Administrative Tools) is full of hundreds thousands of warnings about problems with the SSD. It is nearing end of life. A few times a day the computer will reboot -- but only when running Windows. When I am running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Linux) it will run for a year without rebooting. I suspect that the Ubuntu installation is bypassing the Intel Rapid Storage software RAID and just directly using the ~1tb SATA HDD (ignoring the 15gb SSD).  I can access the Intel Rapid Storage management program in Windows, but it doesn't give me the option to break apart the RAID; to remove the SSD from the RAID. Supposedly there's a way to access it during POST by pressing ctrl-I, but that doesn't work for me. I can't figure out how to access the Intel Rapid Storage management via BIOS and that's the only place where I could (in theory) break apart the RAID and remove the SSD from the equation.  I realize, of course,... Hello, I just recently clean installed windows 10 on my Lenovo Yoga 500-14IBD, replacing the 1TB HDD with a 128GB SSD (I don't have that much stuff). Computer seems to launch apps faster (most of the time) and also starts up faster, but my internet browsing is still kind of laggy.  So i'm wondering If i need to change the computer in anyway (BIOS, etc?) now it has a SSD rather than the shipped with HDD. Also, the clean install has taken all my preinstalled Lenovo programs so I also wonder if this will affect the performance of my laptop(- or is it better)? Because I went to the support page for my laptop and downloaded a driver for the touchpad thinking it would be the newest available and before it downloaded it said it was older than the driver it would be replacing, which I thought strange and it's got me asking if the support page is kept up to date? Ideally I would download a Lenovo app that ckecks my system for out of date or absent Lenovo software that should be there. If anyone could answer those questions I would be extremely grateful. Thanks, David

After getting the SSD to work as my primary drive, my speakers and audio jack have stopped working. Bluetooth devices will connect and play audio but the built in hardware does not. When the troubleshooter runs it comes up with the pictured error message (hardware changes may not have been detected). I have tried uninstalling, downloading and re-installing the audio drivers and nothing has changed. I've read on another forum that one of the bolts on the underside may have damaged the speaker wires upon re-installation but the audio jack doesn't work either so I'm not sure that would be the issue.

after fighting with my XP upgrade install last night for about 4 hours, giving up and going to bed (non ACPI compliant crap and assorted other fun things) i FINALLY got XP setup today.

thanks to forums like this you learn little "secrets" of what and what NOT to do. you know...the F6/F7 tricks, the "do NOT hit enter" when it asks if you want to boot from disk, etc, all that "good" stuff.

i had to update a few drivers, and re-download and install AVG and ZoneAlarm, but after checking everything all seems to be working well.

but i'll tell you one thing...for people who may be trying to install and don't know about seeking the help of some forums it could be a REAL excruciating ordeal. it was bad enough but it's working fine now...so far.

Hi everyone,

I was able to finally install Malwarebytes after running MsConfig in diagnostic mode, starting in safe mode, and changing the extension of the Malwarebytes install file.

The install was hanging on the "Finishing installation" step but after waiting fifteen minutes it finally finished. However, now when I try to run the program it shows in process explorer under explorer.exe but I can't view it.

I can't install HJT either, same problem where it shows in process explorer but does not display.

I have tried restarting the program via process explorer with no luck.

I've tried restarting in safe mode in diagnostic mode. Diagnostic mode with regular startup and just about every other combo you can think of.

I ran AVG and Kaspersky but they were unable to detect any viruses. Unable to get AdAware or Spybot installed.

Help is appreciated, thank you!

Is there an easy way to migrate windows to the SSD using recovery made with Onekey or will I have to clone the HDD?

Windows loads installer and I select the language, after that I proceed to install but it pops out a window asking me for drivers. I tried to clear and partition SSD using diskpart but without any luck, I tried to switch betwwen usb 2.0 and 3.0 ports, different usb sticks but with no luck it is always asking me for drivers (I suppose for the SSD). I can see the SSD in BIOS and in diskpart.  What to do ?  Thanks!

I've read the hardware user guid and its states 2 samsung M.2's differing sizes but online people have said that they have installed others that arent them SSD's. Im interesting in buying and installing a Western Digital 2280 M.2 SSD but am not sure if it will be supported. WD 120GB M.2 SATA III SSD 2280 If anyone has installed this or a similar or has any helpful points to make id appreciate it. - Gecko

A few days ago I saw a flash deal on amazon to 16GB RAM. I buy quickly before it's over. So I could upgrade my memory of 8GB to 16GB.Today I received the RAM and see that it says "Mac Compatible" ... And I see is DDR3L 1.35V instead of DDR3 1.5V, which my laptop currently used. Can I install these 1.35V modules  in my Ideapad Z500?In the Amazon reviews I have seen people he has worked perfectly with these Lenovo models: T400, T500, Flex 2, T420

Hello dear Lenovo fans!I have an old netwbook Lenovo Ideapad S205. I want to put inside a new SSD as a system drive and use the existing hard drive only for storage. I saw on the mainboard that below the wifi module installed in a mini pci-e port there is placed an extra spot for soldering of an additional msata or mini pci-e slot. The bigest questin is - If I solder an msata port there and install an msata SSD - Is it going to work? Does anybody have tried this at all?I called in Lenovo Bulagra and they didn't give me a concrete answer ?!?!Please comment this issue!
