Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E431 WiFi keeps disconnecting...

Q: Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E431 WiFi keeps disconnecting...

Hi guys,I have a laptop which is a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E431 model running on Window 10 Pro OS. It is a Core i3-3110M CPU @2.40GHz 8GB RAM 64-bit OS. My issue is :WLAN / WiFi keeps going ON and OFF every now and then. The WiFi once connected keeps connecting and disconnecting every minute and it sometimes take forever to reconnect back. I will need to right-click on the WiFi Symbol at the bottom right and click on 'Troubleshoot problems' to recover from this issue. Once recovered, it disconnects again. Some Observations :The issue could be because of the conflict between the Bluetooth drivers and the WiFi drivers. If Bluetooth is disabled then the WiFi works correctly. There will be no problems regarding the WiFi getting disconnected. These are the following details of the hardwares and their respective driver versions. Network : Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless -N 2230Driver Version : 15.18.0.1Driver Date : 30-04-2015 Bluetooth : Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R)Driver Version : 18.1.1525.1445Driver Date : 18-06-2015 I have no idea why these two are causing this issue, but I really need to fix this. And it has been atleast a year since I bought this laptop and it has been showing this problem since 4 - 5 months back. Please let me know if there is a work around for this. If not atleast I hope the above information might help fixing the issue. If there is any additional information that is needed from me, please leave a message and I will provide the information to you guys. Thank you,Shreyas Gombi

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, I have a Thinkpad E431 and I would like to replace the touchpad with another one with three physical buttons. Without replacing the touchpad the trackball is absolutely useless... Where can I buy a new touchpad whith the physical buttons? If it does not exist, please make it, it is a shame to be forced to use that horrible touchpad!!! Best Regards Tobias

Been navigating a few different forums quite a bit for this one.We downgraded this Lenovo E431 to windows 7 to fit our corporate environment. There is no disable option in the BIOS.The windows 7 drivers do not add the UltraNAV tab. Always fails on the 3rd portion as the 2 green check marks pass on the first 2 components and fail on the 3rd.  Ran under both the user and admin accounts. No other missing drivers. The device manager does not show any touchpad drivers aside from a "universal" mouse driver which can not be uninstalled.Registry mod will not change this. Aside from pulling the ribbon cable out I am sort of at a loss.  First time ever being stumped by a touchpad.....Last time ever buying an E431 for our environment, we've had 3 of these so far and nothing but issues. Sticking with other Lenovo models. Any ideas?

A:Thinkpad Edge E431 - how to disable the touchpad?

I realize this is an old question, but my reply may help some with the same new question.  There's a quick answer for those who know what they are doing and a longer answer for those who don't. On my Lenovo Edge 2-1580 I couldn't turn off the detestable touch pad.  Here's the part you know:Because this is a Synaptics touchpad, the option to disable it if an external mouse is connected, simply isn't there.   You also might know that if you go into regedit and look for  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh and change the value to 33 it should work ... but doesn't. What I found is if you go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh and change THAT value to 33, reboot your computer, it does indeed work!  Pull the receiver from the USB port and the touchpad starts working again! For those not familiar with regedit, your best option is to find someone who is and have them do it because editing the registry is not something you want to be doing if you don't know what you're doing. To give you an idea of how dangerous it is, read this article on what the registry is and how your computer can stop working if you mess it up, http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/what-everybody-should-know-about-windows-registry.htm Now that I've scared the newbies and made them understand how critical it is, it isn't difficult to do this little fix if you can follow instructions.  So here are the step by step instructions for you.&nbs... Hi there I didn't used to have any issues with my home wifi till recently I would be able to connect at 300Mbps but now it will only work at 54Mbps. I have tried a few router settings to figure out the issue and the only way I can get it to connect at the higher speed is to enable under QOS Enable WMM (Wi-Fi multimedia) settings then only will it connect at the higher speed. Anyone have any ideas why? this is really frustrating me as I didn't used to have this enabled to connect at a higher speed. Thanks

I am presently researching to purchase a laptop for my wife at Christmas who is a teacher thus she will need to access the internet, do Office work, grading, emails, research, etc., but no gaming at all.

Will be running 7 64 OS, with 4 gigs of RAM, and hopefully a 7200 rpm hd. Leaning towards the i5 processor.

The Thinkpad Edge is part of Lenovo's excellent T Series but somewhat less expensive. Looking at current configurations it seems it will deliver what I am looking for but I know nothing of the quality build.

Would love to hear back from people who have used this series and/or from ITs who repair laptops for their insights.

Thanks!

Hi,

I would like to install windows XP on the 44GB partition I made, and have a dual boot system.
But I am having trouble installing Windows XP (pro w/ SP3 and net framework 3.0, and my sata driver slipstreamed)

At first, I just got a blue screen after the disk attempted loading files. Then, I slipstreamed the SATA driver for XP for the EDGE 15 onto the XP installation Disk (There were three .inf files in the driver folder, I only slipstreamed the first one, and copied the driver folder into the image folder, following this guide: SATA Drivers - Slipstream into Windows XP CD).

This seemed to get me past the problem. I was able to format the 44GB partition the disk began installing. Then the computer restarted to finish the installation.
However, during the XP installation, I got a hang up at 33mins. After repeated tries, I get this hang up every time.

I tried disabling as many unnecessary devices in the Bios as I could, but I still get the same hang up.

I tried to find the problem by opening the command prompt and typing setupapi.log (in D:\Windows (the 44GB partition)
However, the last entry in the log was "completed successfully". (The guide I followed using "setupapi.log" was for the 34 min hang up. Since mine is 33min maybe its a completely different problem).

Should I try to slipstream all the drivers onto XP installation disk? (there appear to be over 100 drivers on the Lenovo support page for the thinkpad edge 15)

A:Trying to install Windows xp on partition of Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 15

You really only want the text file for the SATA controller driver, in order to overcome the bluescreen to display the HD partitions for install. Adding other drivers can actually create complications that cause install to fail while installing these drivers, which can be done from the desktop after install anyway.

Have you tried installing your XP programs in Win7 Compatibility Mode,
or virtualizing XP from within Win7 using XP Mode in Ultimate/Pro or freeware like Virtual Box, VMWare, or Virtual Player? These are easier than wrestling with an XPired OS.

Hi All As per the title suggests - just purchased one of these off the web and it's a nice little machine. Tried to fit a 128gb OCZ Vertex drive but it doesn't slot all the way into the SATA port, whereas a standard HDD does. Appears to be down to the physical profile of the drive and the slot. Does anyone know of an SSD which will fit? I saw another thread which mentioned the Crucial M4 and the x25-m SSDs, but wondered if there were any other owners who could shed some light on this.

Hey! So I bought my Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E545 about a year and a half ago, and right out of the box this brand new computer was EXTREMELY slow. Internet pages load extremely slow, games play choppy and slow, I cannot watch streams with my computer, and I cannot view HD videos on any platform. This should not be happening with a brand new computer with 16 gigs of ram. I should've submitted it for repair or returned it earlier but I guess I always thought I would find the problem and download a driver or something and the problem would be fixed, but alas, it is still functioning like a laptop from 2001. Any advice or help is much appreciated, thanks.

Hi Monger,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

Maybe you would want to remove any unnecessary think vantage software?s or other software?s that you don't need.

Additionally try updating the OS and drivers, you can let Windows update do this.

Try disabling all start-up programs, to see if's it's a faulty program. The easiest way is to use the msconfig program. I would also try seeing what program is eating up the resources, ctrl+shift+esc.

I hope the above information helps.

Shashi

When the fan starts, it makes alot of noise, even in low speed. when system gets a bit warmer, noisey fan calms a bit down. but not quiet. I removed both keyboard and the cover below, and removed all the dust (not much dust) by an air blower. Please help with getting acces to the Recovery Service Parition. On a Lenovo E431, I have tried more then a dozen times rapidly pressing F11 on boot up. Other procedures tried:1) Hold down F11 on powerup.2) Hold down Fn+F11 on powerup3) Remove battery + pressing power button 10+ times then repeat above. Also, neither F1 to enter BIOS or F12 for boot menu seem to work. On bootup the bios post screen flashes for less then 1/2 second. All I can make out is, on the bottom it says PRESS F1 to enter BIOS setup. Then it boots into Windows 10. I was considering that maybe the Service Partition was erased but it is NOT.I pulled the drive, and attached to another machine.  The Service Partition IS THERE. Ultimate goal - Wipe the C: drive, overwritting Windows 10 and restore factory Windows 8 Pro. Please help, whats the secret to getting into ANY of the Function Key options?Thanks,Unit1000

A:Lenovo E431 - Can't get into Recovery Service Part...

Per Lenovo, their One Key Recovery software is not available in Windows 10, so that may be why you cannot access it since the upgrade, and I do not believe (I could be wrong) that the boot to recovery partition option was ever available on your model....I think you had to use One Key Recovery from within the OS, or have created recovery media. If it has been less than a month since you updated to Windows 10, you can still revert back to the previous version using Windows recovery, but after that time elapses, you cannot, and would have to do a clean install of Windows 8.1 instead. How to revert back using Windows Recovery (if upgrade is less than a month old)Press Windows Key + A  simultaneouslySelect  All Settings option from bottom of slide out window on right.Select Update & SecuritySelect RecoverySelect Get Started under "Go Back to Windows 8.1" (if still available)See link below for more details How to downgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 8.1http://www.windowscentral.com/how-downgrade-windows-10-windows-81 If over one month has passed, then you will have to basically overwrite the HD with a fresh install of Windows 8.1 Pro (8.0 pro install media is not available) by using Microsoft's MediaCreationTool available here, and burn either a DVD or USB key to use to install Windows 8.1 pro.     Windows 8.1 should find your Windows Product Key stored in the BIOS, and, per Microsoft's Downgrade Rights, and install 8.... Hi, welcome to the forums.

Can you please post the full model number of your Thinkpad Yoga 14?
Are you using Windows 10?

I may suggest you first to try to update the Wifi drivers and maybe some other of the system driver of you Yoga.
Here are my general tips:

1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches
2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.
3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"
4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers (use the full model number of your Thinkpad).

After that we can try a little bit more. For example I also like to test it on some other Wifi networks just to be sure it is not a compatibility issue with the Wifi Router.

Hey there, after being on the phone with Lenovo representatives in Germany for a couple of times with no succesful solution to my problem, I wondered whether someone in this forum might have an answer to my P50 problem. Model:Thinkpad P50 20EN0008. The problem:At the beginning of August, my P50 would not boot, no vitality signs at all. I removed the battery, tried to push the power button in various sequences ( 60 seconds long ; in alternating time steps, and so on) but nothing helped. So I decided to call Lenovo tech support who said that probably my mainboard needs to be swapped. Next day a Lenovo representative showed up with a new mainboard. However, before replacing the mainboard he checked all RAM sticks and figured out one was broken, being the reason for the dead P50. Thus, he removed the RAM stick and the machine started working again. The P50 continued working for 2 days but eventually showed the same symptoms. I called tech support again and after 2 weeks a new technician showed up, now replacing the whole mainboard. Then, the P50 worked for 2 days but eventually would not boot at all again. Being curious what might be the bug, I thought what both operations had in common and voila, after disconnecting the coin cell battery and the main battery for 3 minutes, the Laptop started again. So I called tech support again, now with the recommendation of updating my bios to the latest version. Having done this, my P50 still does not boot without removin... Read more

It looks like one of endless BIOS issues. What BIOS version to you have ? Try to disable Fast Startup in Windows which may be a temporary workaround. Considering the repair history I would return it. There are many basic functionality issues with P series Lenovo is not able to solve because they seem to already lost production competence of workstation machines. They are too focused on cheap consumer laptops and its resulting typical reliability.

Good evening! I have a Lenovo Edge 2 that has been babied since purchased. Never abused, dropped, no scratches or dents, it's in fantastic condition still. I purchased the extended warranty, hoping I'd never need it.Last year, it stopped charging properly. The battery power dropped to 0%, and hasn't increased since. The machine will only power on when plugged in to AC power, and will immediately power down when the adapter is disconnected. The charging status indicator LED on the right side of the machine flashes orange in a non-steady, intermittent pattern, and the charging indicator in the taskbar in Windows 10 does the same thing. I returned the machine to Best Buy, they sent it to their "Geek Squad" facility for repairs, and the AC Adaptor and battery were replaced, under warranty. The machine was returned to me, and still doesn't charge.I contacted Lenovo, they advised I would need to return it to their facility for repairs. I put it in the provided box, and dropped it off to FedEx on 6/24/17. It's now been 2 weeks. I contacted Lenovo to inquire about the status of the repair, and was told "The technician found evidence of damage, and the upper case will need to be replaced as well, but damage isn't covered under warranty, so you'll need to cover the cost of the repair." I asked for the price, was told "A technician will email you with the price." I inquired about the status of the original repairs, they told me the claim was on hold, pending my review and... Read more

I am just going to guess that computer is trying to boot via USB, so you might try changing the boot order in the BIOS so that Windows Boot Manager or the HD is first.

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,
