HP wont shut off all the way and sleep mode wont let me turn...

Q: HP wont shut off all the way and sleep mode wont let me turn...

My computer will not shut completely off when I shut it down. The light for the wireless internet connect does not go black, it turns orange, saying that it is off but now the orange light does not come off unless I hold the power button down. Also when my computer goes to sleep, when I press a key to turn it back on, it does not turn on. The screen stays black and the wireless internet connection light is orange. It does not boot back up anymore.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: HP wont shut off all the way and sleep mode wont let me turn...

Hi, Try the following. Open Settings and select System. Select Power and sleep, then click on Additional power settings - in the following window, click on 'Choose what the power button does' in the left hand pane. In the subsequent window, first click on 'Change settings that are currently unavailable' ( near the top of the Window ) and then remove the checkmark from the box against 'Turn on fast start-up (recommended)'. Click the Save Settings button, then close any open windows and restart the notebook. When windows has reloaded, download the IMEI driver directly from Intel on the following link, unzip the package and run the installer. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26127/Intel-Management-Engine-Consumer-Driver-for-Intel-NU... When the installation has completed, restart the notebook. When the machine has reloaded, re-enable Fast Start-up and reboot the notebook once again - let Windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

A:my computer wont turn on it sounds like its jus coming out of sleep mode

Maybe try last known configuration.

Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then restart your computer.

Click the Start button , click the arrow next to the Lock button , and then click Restart.

Do one of the following:

If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you will need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.

If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system you want to start, and then press F8.

On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight Last Known Good Configuration, and then press ENTER.

Yesturday my vista was working great, and on the screen as i went to shut it down said "updating files do not shut down computer 3/3 100%" but it stayed like that for 4 hours, so i turn it off manualy once i turned it back on the next day it asked me for my password i put it in and as it was loading it was vey slow and would take 5-6 minutes for programs to load up.

Also when i go to click on like my internet it dont work, not even my games work, they try to load then freeze. So i did a scan on it and its still having this problem. After i got frustrated i went to shut it down again and it says "logging off" but stays like that for hours, so i have to manualy turn it off. Now with internet issue, it works in safe mode with connection, but not in my normal screen. WHY IS THIS DOING THIS?

Hi, today my computer turned off randomly and i cant get it to start again.
When i try to turn it on the fans doesen't start but a blue light in my computer is on as usual. Its like the computer is on, exept the fans. My monitor isent responding either.
This have happened a few times this week but i have had it going again after i have turned the power source of and on. Could it be something with the smart fan?
And if, how to i turn it on/off without starting the computer.

Sorry for my bad knowlegde.

A:Computer shut of and wont turn on.

Given what you have told us, my first instinct is that the power supply has failed.

This would be particularly true if you can disconnect the power cord from the power supply for a while (15-30 minutes) and then when you plug it back in the PC will start. That is a classic symptom of a bad capacitor.

If you have not been getting any system errors, warnings, or any other indications of a failing device then I would first try replacing the power supply.

If you can borrow one from another computer to test with that would be best.

I have an HP Pavilion a1520y and I went for a two month vacation this summer. When I returned I found out that my computer was doing something it has never done before in my life. When it goes into a low power state (i.e Shut down, hibernation, standby), the power button still stays lit and the fans go crazy. The only way to stop this is to pull the plug. It happens randomly so one week its fine then one day it acts up. I checked my motherboard and the caps are OK. I think there is something wrong with the Power Supply. Please Help Me! This is getting very annoying and it could bring something bigger and worse.

PS: I did upgrade my BIOS and it didn't help the problem.

I recently bought a new laptop which has windows 8 installed on it and at times when I put it into sleep mode the screen goes off but the computer is still running and I have to use the power button to turn it off(Which I don't really like to do). When I turn it off the same thing happens and sometimes when I'm lucky it will give me an error message .
I have download all of the updates for windows 8 which did not solve it and I disabled fast bootup which didn't either I am just wondering if I download 8.1 will it fix it although I installed 8.1 on another laptop and the same thing happened and then I installed just 8 which gave me the same result.

I am wondering if I could do anything about it or do I have to wait until microsoft fix it and if anyone else is getting the same problem.

Have you checked to see if all your drivers are up to date?

Not too many having trouble with sleep in 8, but many having problems with 8.1. Although a better system IMO, you may want to wait to upgrade. Please refer to the thread below. Probably one of the longest threads.

I was playing a game and my laptop completely cut out. I assumed it was an overheating problem, but it was only warm, not hot. It's been about 15mins now and it's still not turning on. When I press the power button the light comes on for a brief second then turns off and the speaker makes a popping sound. I've tried removing the battery and holding the power button for a minute to drain any excess, didn't work though. Also when the laptop is plugged in the charging light still works, so it's not completely dead. What else can I try?

A:Laptop shut off...wont turn back on :(

Try switching it on with the battery out first and if the problem persists then check the adaptor for power output (ie volts)

Greetings, Today I was playing a game called Overwatch and I noticed that my laptop was getting pretty hot. This had happened before so I didn't think much of it. Then, suddenly, my screen went black and there was no signs of life for the laptop, even when it was plugged into the AC adapter. I let it cool down for a little while and upon plugging the AC adapter back in, i noticed that the power brick was making a ticking noise. I suspect that either the laptop just overheated or there was some sort of power surge to the computer, seeing as it wont turn back on. Help me please?  Thanks

Did anyone experience this before? Can you please offer any advice if possible?
I have tried with Dell Detect program but it doesn't help, as it said all drivers are working properly. My laptop also just upgraded to the newest version of Windows 10 if that is relevant to this problem.
Thank you so much for any further recommendation.

Now that I have changed OSes the computer doesn't seem to come 100% out of sleep mode. When you try to come out of it, every thing powers up. Lights, fans, the whole kit and caboodle. What doesn't happen is that the screen remains black and the little volume button remains orange as if it is set to mute. No matter of coaxing will getting any response from it and requires a hard restart.

As you can imagine, this is a wee bit annoying having to shut down or hibernate every time I want to take it some where with out killing the battery.

Hello, Ill start with my cpu setup

1 gig ram

120 gig secondary
gf3 ti4200
audigy 2
sony cd burner
tdk dvd burner
service pack 2
all win updates etc..

My computer will randomly go into sleep/suspend mode. The fans continue to run as normal, but my screen light goes from green to yellow w/ the screen going black. The only thing i can do is reboot. Im not sure what mode this is because ive never really bothered with any of the power saving options in windows. Anyways it started doing it around the time i updated to sp2, It would basically go into sleep mode if i wasnt active(although i had all power saving options off) and not come back. I installed the latest video drivers and it seemed to take care of it. Recently however i have been trying to run Counterstrike:Source and has continued to crash to this screen/mode once again. Sometimes now i cant even boot up because it goes to this screen right before it goes to the windows xp screen. I then have to run safe mode once, shut down, then reboot windows and its fine.

From what ive read on the internet it sounds like a power issue. as of now i dont have my 120 gig hooked up, and it still does it. Ive tried other monitors and it does the same thing so im ruling out that. Any help will greatly be appreciated. Think its my vid card? others? thx again

The video driver provides the signal to keep the monitor out of standby so if it is corrupted somehow it might not be able to come out.

check the driver in device manager

Hello, I hope someone can help me or point me in the correct direction.

Two days ago I turned on my desktop computer, walked away from it while it should have been booting up and when I returned the blue light on the computer was blinking as if it was in sleep mode.

The strange thing is, is that the message on my monitor reads that the monitor is not receiving a signal.

The desktop is about 1.5 years old. I did install a video card about a year ago. When I installed the video card the computer would shut down when I played a game that was graphically intensive so I installed another fan and upgraded the power supply and the problem was fixed.

It has been running fine for approximately 11 months.

If you have any ideas please let me know.

Thank you in advance.

Maybe it's just really sleepy? *hears drum being hit in background*

sorry...erm..yeah was too tempting.

To my knowledge there is no real clear reason as to why this happens. You would think in so many OS systems with the wake/sleep function that they would had perfect it by now huh? You may get some people suggestion checking your drivers, energy/wattage issue/etc. I personally don't believe any of that though myself. If it can operate while you are on it just fine but you turn it off and it won't come back on it sounds more like an OS issue than anything else.

I used to have the same issue with an old old Acer Aspire 5720z. I never found a real solution to it either.I truly think the only "cheaphax" here would be for you to just disable sleep mode.

You could see if this helps you any but I highly doubt it will.

Hello, i have recently made a computer and installed vista, everything's great except my computer wont go into sleep mode: i click on it, monitor goes to standby for a few seconds, the lights dim in my computer for a second, then desktop comes up and all the things that are in my usb are temporarily disconnected then connects. any solutions or help would be appreciated.

A:Custom computer wont go to sleep mode?

Hello BillyMarShere, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You might check through each item in this tutorial below to see if it may help you find what is waking up your computer. Usually, the culprit is the "Allow this device to wake up computer" option checked in the Network adapter Power Management settings in Device Manager.

Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems

Hope this helps,

hi all,
i know this question has been asked a million times but after trying everything suggested it still is not working.

last night i was watching a movie on my computer and when i went to press "esc" to exit the big screen thing, i accidently pressed sleep mode above. and after that the computer shut down and now thescreen wont resume, the computer itself is working but nothing appears on the screen. what do i do?

i tried, turning it off from the source and holding down the power button for the monitor but it keeps coming up with a short notice saying power mode and then it dissapears and the mouse isnt working and the keyboard is not doing anything either. when i press i caps lock or any lock button theres a little flash and still nothing happens.

HELP!

Sleep/hibernate/standby problems are usually caused by corrupt video drivers
I would start by replacing that

I really need some help. I have a custom built PC. Ever since then I haven't been able to go into sleep mode. As soon as I click Sleep the system powers down for few seconds then powers straight back on to show me login screen. For better insight on the issue I would suggest looking at >this<. The link directs you to Microsoft Community website, and what you will see is my thread asking for help. Knowing Microsoft Community I feel as if they just give basic steps then thinking out of the box so that's why i'm here.

What I've tried so far is doing a reset with Windows 10 Pro to wipe everything but keeps files on SSD which is my primary. I disconnected my HDD which is for gaming and music so that it wont get touched. As I'm typing this the issue hasn't been fixed. The only thing that I did was some updates for OS, and that's it! I'm completely puzzled by what is happening.

Please help! Thanks in advance.

A:Urgent help with PC that wont stay in sleep mode!

I read this elsewhere, someone suggested look in device manager, and see if you can find any unrecogized devices that have "Wake this computer" Ticked, then simply un-tick and apply.

P.S I recommend trying hibernate, it works just as well

Have you pressed the power switch in the Front of the Case? Then go into Control Panel/Power Options/Choose what the Power Buttons do on the left side.

Not long installed win7, now i find that when its in sleep mode the usb hub / wireless mouse and KB are sort of "disabled" and i cant wake up the pc unless i plug an ordinary kb in the usb on the pc itself.
ive tried plugging the wirelss receiver directly into usb port on pc but it still doesnt wake up as the mouse is disabled.
Now ive set the pc to never go to sleep,

any other options? what else can i do?
the wireless mouse and kb are both MS and ive downloaded the v7 drivers - Intellitype and I/point.

thanks for any help!

A:wireless mouse/KB wont wake pc from sleep mode

Hello Cavair,

You might see if plugging the wireless USB receiver directly into the back of the computer instead of a USB hub to see if may work for you instead. Afterwards, check in Device Manger in the Mouse and Keyboard "Power Managemet" properties tab to make sure that the "Allow the device to wake the computer" option below is checked.
Hope this helps

Hi,

Sorry for poor english, I speak french.

I'm runnig windows 8 on my Sony labtop. The labtop is located in the kitchen. I connect the TV in the living room in ''dual screen mode'' to the labtop. When i'm listing to music on the labtop (windows media player), the 2 screens won't go to sleep even if I choose 1min to the sleep programing function. I found that there's two ways to choose the delay, in ''power saving'' mode and in control pannel. The thing is that the fix image on the labtop that is duplicate to the TV is actually breaking the TV (the images stay like phantom).

So please help me to find a way to activate the ''fluid ligns animation'' on the TV afer one minute of inactivity on the labtop while listing to music.

Hey guys!

Well i have win 7 pro 64 bit.

Though i have an OEM not an upgrade. I hate shutting down my comp, so i like to make it sleep.

Though when i put it to sleep or when the timer auto. sleeps my computer, when i come back to log on, i click my profile to log on either i get

- Windows does not load, will be stuck in the loading page. (once i left it for 10 minutes, stuck at the loading windows page) and i have to force restart my computer.

- Or

- It does load back to my desktop, though everything is running SO SLOW. My internet explorer freezes and it says "not responding" no music will load, folders takes ages to load. Even when i go have lunch and come back, my comp is still very slow. Thus i ahve to restart again.....annoying..

help?

A:Sleep Mode: Wont load when back or slow

When experiencing problems during or after power state transitions, the first step is to ensure that the BIOS and all drivers (video, NIC, audio, anti-virus...) are up to date.

Hello there,

It seems like you did not perform a clean installation of Windows and that's why your system is acting up.

Follow the steps below to install a new copy of Windows:

1. To format your hard disk during Windows 7 installation you will need to start or boot your computer using the Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive. Insert your Windows 7 disc in your CD/DVD drive. Please note: will need to restart or turn on your system with the disc in the drive.
2. After turning on your system with the CD in the drive go ahead and press any key when prompted during your computer post routine and then follow the instructions presented on screen. If you don’t see this go back to step 1 to setup your BIOS to boot from CD or USB flash drive depending on your installation media.
3. On the Install Windows page simply enter your preferences and click next.

4. Accept the Windows license agreement.

5. On the “Which type of installation do you want” page go ahead and choose the “Custom” option.

6. Select Drive options (advanced) on the “Where do you want to install Windows” page.

7.  Select the partition that you want to change, choose the formatting option you want to perform and then follow the instructions.
When allocating space choosing the default MB size for your drive is typically the best for most users since you want to take full advantage of all your disk... Read more
