Preferred Solution: Fast way to create hundreds of thumbnail images

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sounds like your "View" choice got changed to "icons" somehow. Use the toolbar at the top of your photo folder, and under "View" select "Thumbnails." If that's not it, please post back with more details.

Hey Guys,

What determines how a URL Thumbnail gets posted in a link to a page? Sometimes I will provide a link to a webpage for reference like on Facebook and there will be a thumbnail along with the URL link. I recently posted a link on Facebook where the URL posted and linked to just fine. The URL Thumbnail shows a picture of a little dog! The thing is, I can't find the picture of the little dog on the website to which the link goes. The website itself is a huge database which requires registration and I could not post the link here by example, sorry.

Hi to everyone & Hi @ THROOPER!

I am missing some icon thumbnail images.

Vaio SZ1VP laptop, Win 7 / Office 2007 / Bitedfender

Recently:
- Fixed an Infineon/TPM driver problem - icon images still correctly displayed.
- Followed "blackviper" web page tuning advice to reduce active services - icon images still correctly displayed.
- Followed "blackviper" web page tuning advice to increase PC speed (Win7) for "best performance/best appearance". Amongst other tweaks I set classic windows' basic UI.

Problem started when I reverted to basic Win7 UI.

I already tried many forum solutions (including a few from this forum, deleting cache, reg modifications, MS file check/fix which took 30 minutes, right click on icon, properties, etc - but no option to change icon) etc... but none worked.

What does work is:
Open the file which has the missing thumbnail image and save it with a different name - icon's thumbnail image is restored!

Still can't work out a solution for programs' icons missing thumbnail images. Toolbar Outlook and Skype icons still missing correct thumbnail image but Firefox icon image is correctly displayed.

Throoper helped solve a case: ( http://forums.techguy.org/windows-xp/1024674-missing-shortcut-icons-pictures.html ) by offering 2 links & delete cache db.

I would like to try that, if Throoper has links for Win 7. Any other help/support greatly appreciated.

TIA.

In xplorer˛ go to Tools > Options > General tab, where it says "Thumbnail size (pixels)", the default is 96, increase that to whatever you like.

You can also use the preview pane to look at individual images.

Assuming they are .jpg and not .cdr files I suggest you open the folder ( within explorer) the pic's are stored in, then choose view, then select Thumbnails. See if that works.

Many people post screenshots here, which I like. And sometimes those images are displayed as thumbnails, which I also like as it allow you to ignore the image if you want, or select it if you want to take a look.

The problem for me is that once I click a post's thumbnail image, it defaults to a "zoomed out" view which does not allow me to be able to see the text on the image.

Now, if I wait around a bit, wiggle the mouse around a bit, click right button (clear), left button (clear) and leave the cursor motionless for a few seconds MAYBE I might get an orange box with arrows aiming outward to appear.

Now *IF* I move the cursor SLOWLY to the box and click on it, THEN I get the "full" image so I can read the text. Sometimes if I move the cursor too fast the box disappears and I have to do the whole ritual all over again.

This is so aggravating and so stupid sometimes I change my mind and don't even bother to view the image. Stupid thing. Aggravating as all heck.

Seems there ought to be a right-click option to just view the image at full resolution, but there's not. Seems also there ought to be a tab at the top of IE to do the same thing, but there's not. Guess I should mention this is an IE thing and not Windows Viewer or anything else.

What is the deal with this ? Am I the only person that hates this stupid thing ? Don't even know what to call it in order to do a Google search.

Is there some way around this ? Some setting or som... Read more

A:how to add my own thumbnail images to files & folders?

Hello Xdash,

One workaround that you could do is to have that folder with only the image or video file that you want to show as the thumbnail, then create a new subfolder in this folder for the rest of the files so that they will not be included with the thumbnail of the main folder.

Another workaround is to create a shortcut of this folder, and change the icon of the folder shortcut.

Hope this helps some,

I have a ton of pics on my external hard drive that I want to put on a large flash drive. I bought one of them awhile back, but I eventually returned it because it just didn't read image files very quickly.. it would take about 3 seconds to load a set of about 15 or so as I scrolled down.

My ports only read at USB 2.0 speeds, but I know there are 3.0 flash drives that can read faster even at 2.0 speeds. Only problem is that I can't identify this speed information on many packages, or websites. I mostly get my information from online reviews, but because each reviewer has a different system (some with Macs), I can't get a very good take on them.

A:looking for a flash drive that reads jpg images fast?

As far as I know, a year or so back Microsoft released a hotfix that removed the restricted speeds on the USB 2.0 ports on windows 7 because the speeds of the ports were capped far under what they were capable of handling. Ever since that hotfix my 8GB USB with a good 7,000+ images on it loads fairly quickly.
Have you heard of this hotfix when you were searching the web as you mentioned?

Of all the searching I have done in looking for a way to create perfect 1:1 cd/dvd images for every disc I could come across, I haven't found one. Nero seemed to be working well, but I have found a few discs that it won't image.

In January before I left for school, I was going to start a thread asking how to do this, but didn't get around to it. I did have someone tell me though that the best way to do this is from a Linux console. That is all I remember.

Does anyone know anything about accomplishing this from a Linux console or by any other means? I am sure there must be a way to read a disc bit by bit and record it to an image.

First of all, I apologise if this is the wrong forum, but I don't know where the cause of this problem lies.

I have a Windows 7 64 bit PC which until recently was working fine, including burning data DVDs (ebooks, zip files, text files, etc). ABout a week or two back, though, the discs I burnt began to turn out corrupt, with Nero reporting errors when verifying the discs. Whenever I reformat my PC and install the drivers and programs I make a disc image of the C: drive, so that I can reapply this image back to the drive at any point in the future, effectively rolling back the hard drive to the day when I reformatted and reinstalled everthing, so I applied the image to the C: drive, thinking that this would cure whatever file corruption was causing Nero to burn corrupt discs.

This failed to cure the problem, so I assumed that the DVD drive was failing, so I bought a new one, which exhibited the same problem. I tried other software (CDBurnerXP and Ashampoo) and they produced the same corrupted discs (some of the files on the disc had errors, just like with Nero, but the data on the hard drives itself was fine). So I tried burning a virtual disc image from Nero, and it turns out that the disc images Nero makes have the same corruption (which staggered me, as if the problem is purely software then I'd have thought that when I applied the C: drive backup image over the C: drive that would have solved the problem). Hey all,

I was wondering about something I made few attempts, but they all failed.

I work in an 70+ user organization and in order to install new computers I use WDS to push images through the network. Now, obviously it's possible to get a computer and set up images on it all the time, but I wouldn't have the option to have such a PC only for myself, thus I would have to go through hoops to update the image (like, get another PC, install the image, update the image and then push it back into the WDS).

In the past, I attempted to use Virtual PC in order to create an image, however, it failed to run on an actual PC. This time I've got VirtualBox, but the question remains: can I use a virtual machine as an image-creating one? Are there some limitations or steps needed to be done in order to make it work?

TIA.

A:Using virtual machines to create production images

I think its only unidirectional; you can convert a real image into a virtual install but not a real image from virtual because there would be no way to anticipate the hardware abstraction layer requirement.

The only way I know is the option you weren't thrilled about, a clone of the computers you push the image to. Otherwise pushing just the updates through the network to each system wtihout reimaging a master might be possible?

I hope this is the correct way of posting my concern.
I have used system images for many years and they have got me out of trouble many times.
Currently I'm trying to use windows 7 ulimate, backup and Restore to create a sequence of system images. The procedure provided by Microsoft ensures that each image produced overwrites the last one. Their instructions also suggest that multiple images can be produced but need to be stored "separately". This does not seem to work properly as the restore function does not pickup all the images.
At this point i have no solution to this difficulty.
I keep my system images on an external 2TB drive but have tried using other partitions on the internal drive. The restore function only seems to see one of the internal partitions. It sees the external 2 TB drive OK. I don't think the 2TB drive is an issue.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

A:I'm trying to use backup and Restore to create series of system images

Do NOT use Windows imaging for what you are trying to do. It is so restrictive and touchy that you will not be happy with it.

I suggest you use free Macrium or free Paragon.

"How to Create a System Image in Windows 8 and 8.1" at System Image - Create in Windows 8

includes the following approach for create multiple system images on a single external drive. Will this approach work in Windows 10?
==========================================
METHOD TWO:

1. Navigate to the backup location above for where you saved a system image that you want to keep before creating a new system image.

2. Right click, or press and hold, on the WindowsImageBackup folder, and click/tap on Rename.

3. Rename it to something like WindowsImageBackup-Copy-1, press Enter, and click//tap on Yes if prompted by UAC.
NOTE: This way you can just easily change the 1 an the end of the name to 2, 3, 4, etc... for each new system image that you make a copy of.

4. You now have a different system image version that you can leave at this location to be able to keep multiple versions.
NOTE: When you want to restore a system image in a renamed WindowsImageBackup-Copy-1 folder in the future, then you must rename the current WindowsImageBackup folder first, then rename the WindowsImageBackup-Copy-1 folder back to WindowsImageBackup in order to be able to restore it. The WindowsImageBackup folder must be in the root directory of the drive, and not within another folder.

Howdy:

Looking for guidance on optimal settings for new Dell system before I fire it up (specs in my profile).

This is my first Win10 system and my first desktop, "production box" PC with dual drives (SSD (OS) + spinner (data)) and UEFI.

I have read the many fabulous (!) tutorials on "fast start", "fast boot", "secureboot", "hibernation", "Advanced Boot Options", "power" and "UEFI firmware".
But I am a nearly-silver-surfer and an auto-didact, when it comes to computers.
So I still have questions based on the new hardware and OS, compared to Win 7 with HDD.
And I'm not 100% sure of the default settings for some of these under Win 10, so I don't know what needs to be tweaked.

My main priorities are system stability and prolonging the life of the SSD, rather than "performance" (e.g. ultra-fast boot).
A few seconds longer to boot from a cold start is fine, as long as that does not cause excessive SSD wear.I do not game, Skype or even stream videos -- mostly "productivity apps" (Office, Acrobat, Photoshop, Snagit) work, streaming radio, internet, email. My current Win7 desktop power settings are: display (screen saver after 10 min, off after 20 min) and hard drive sleep (never).I have seen it mentioned that some 3rd-party AVs need a full, cold "shutdown", rather than "fast start" in order to fully set some of their patches/updates/features. A:Fast Start/Fast Boot/Hibernation Settings for OEM Win10/64 Pro SSD?

My system is set up "Let Windows Take Care of Windows".
Meaning I installed Windows 10 letting the installer take care of everything.

Install the OS and any drivers then run winsat formal in an admin command prompt, reboot, and Windows will set the system up for your SSD and any HDDs you have.

I do recommend keeping Fast Start, in settings app, turned off, , as I have had problems with some tiles such as Mail & Calendar refreshing/updating, and FilePendingRename need a restart or complete shutdown & boot to make any changes to system files. The SSD will boot fast enough.

In Bios keep Secure & Fast boot on.

Do not worry about writes, the newer SSDs will probably outlast your MOBO these days
Only obvious thing(and I know you already do this MM) back up all data,
because when a SSD goes to hell, the data is totally unrecoverable, as opposed to a HDD, where if you're lucky, some might be saved.

All tweaks are totally unnecessary, as Windows 8-10 makes system settings for EACH disk independent of the other, for example Prefetch is automatically turned off for SSDs, but on for the HDDs in a mixed build.

I think i'm infected. Every now and again, when I open up Internet Explorer, for example, I will get hundreds upon hundreds of pop-ups. If I close one they will keep on coming. However, this only happens every now and again. As well, when I let my laptop hibernate, when i move the key pad, nothing will show up on the screen, it will remain black, but all of the other buttons such as the power, the dvd functions (such as stop, play, rewind) still appear illmuminated. the same thing occurs when I shut down the lid of my PC. In order to be able to see the screen, i must shut down the computer (unsafely) and then images will appear on the screen.

Hope this helps,

Thanks,

Darrell

Hi there,

Currently coming across an issue with Gmail where images I receive in various emails are treated differently depending on if an image has an href around it or if image maps are used.

If an image has an href wrapped around it, the image appears normally on mouseover. However, when an image map is used, for portions where a map doesn't cover a section of the image, an option to download the image as an attachment appears on mouseover.

Is there any particular reason for this? I assume it's something to do with when an image isn't linked, Gmail allows a user to download the image, otherwise it doesn't? Or maybe it's how the cursor action is interpreted? (i.e. if the cursor is forced to using the link scenario then the scenario for it to be treated as an attachment doesn't occur, so the attachment icon doesn't appear?)

Note that this happens in all browsers to my knowledge.

If anyone has any thoughts please let me know.

Cheers,

Andrew

OK, this is actually happening on my friends computer.

He goes online and each time he is suddenly bombarded with popups. He has run Nortons Antivirus and it found a few. Ran AVG, it found a few. Ran Mr. Cleaner and it found some things other did not find. Computer is still full of spyware/popups.

Here is the interesting part. He has a phone splitter plugged into his phone jack with the cordless phone plugged into one side and the DSL filter/line plugged into the other side. Shouldn't make any difference right? Unknown to him, the circuit breaker tripped that powers the cordless phone the other day. During this time he was online and he said he DID NOT notice any popups showing up. He thought maybe things were back to normal. Severl hours later he went to use the cordless phone and noticed it did not work so he checked things out and found out that the circuit breaker was tripped to the outlet powering the phone.

He reset the circuit breaker for the phone. A few minutes later he needed to go online for something and here he was flooded with popups again! I've never heard of such nonsense..........Phone off.....No adware/popups................Phone On...............Bombarded.

I'm going to get his computer and try to do an "exorcism" on this thing. What would be a good recommendation to start with?

I appreciate any and all help.

Thanks,

BobbyJ177

A:Popup's By The Hundreds!

Are they telling you you're infected or casino type things. In this forum Spyware and Malware Removal Guides and Reading Room you can click on say the first one "Spydawn fix" and see if they look similar. If so you an follow the removal instructions.Or post back the specific popups and we can direct you as to What you'll need to do...

Here goes: I have an ACER which runs on Windows Vista. My Norton just expired and when I did a free scan, there were over 400 threats on my system including a few trojans! I don't know if it's doomed, but if it can be saved, please help! I cannot afford to spend hundreds to get this thing fixed.

A:Hundreds of viruses! HELP!!!

I'm going to move this to the hijack this forums........if you don't have a response in 48 hours from a shielded member, please type 'bump' in the reply box and I will flag one down for you.

In the meantime, if you could do the following:

CLICK HERE to download the HijackThis Installer:
1. Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
2. Double-click on HJTInstall.exe to run the program.
3. By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
4. Accept the license agreement by clicking the "I Accept" button.
5. Click on the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
6. Click "Save log" to save the log file and then the log will open in Notepad.
7. Click on "Edit -> Select All" then click on "Edit -> Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
8. Come back here to this thread and paste the log in your next reply.
9. Do NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet! Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

A:Help, Hundreds Of Viruses!

Welcome MarkyUppy83I will be helping you under the guidance of one of our expert coaches. Please give me a little time to get back to you with instructions. In the meantime please note the following:Any recommendations made are for your computer problems only and should NOT be used on any other computer. Please DO NOT run any scans/tools or other fixes unless I ask you to. This is very important for several reasons. Here are just two of them:
1. The tools that we use are very powerful and can cause >>irreparable damage<< to your computer if not used correctly.
2. Commercial scanners, for the most part can not completely remove some of the more "resistant" infections. This makes it much more difficult to get rid of completely. If you get stuck or are unsure of something please ask for a further explanation, do not guess.Continue to respond to this thread until I give you the All Clean! Please Note: My instructions to you are checked by an expert prior to posting. This may cause a small delay between posts.ThanksJohnCreate an Uninstall List Start HijackThis Click on the Config button Click on the Misc Tools button Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file When you press the Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file Copy and paste the contents of that notepad here in your next reply
