I've been having this trouble since! It's very irritating and I'd love to find a way to fix it.

I have a cable connected to the dsl modem in my sister's room and the phone is connected in my mom's room.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just got DSL and now everytime the phone rings i get disconnected. When i got it they gave me a Westnel 327 router/ modem and filters for the phones. I have the phone line going directly into the modem/ router, then from there i have a wire running to my linksys N Gigabit 310 router. I have the router shut off on the westnel. Also all phones also have the filters on them.

Anyone have an idea what the problem could be or what to test?

lets me start off with saying I'm sorry for how long this is, but I will cover everything that has been done.
I had my 1st dsl account with verizon for about 3yrs it was terminated for nonpayment (their messup), never had any problems. they tryed to make thing right by setting up a new account new modem and 6 months free, from day 1 evertime you used the phone(either pickup and or hangup) the dsl disconnects, now it's to the point where 2 seconds before the phone even rings the dsl dissconnects and it seems like every 20 min or so the dsl randomly dissconnects. verizon has sent 32 techs to my house. after the 1st yr verizon decided to install the homerun package (NID is split house lines and jacks are filltered and dsl line unfilltered) problem is still there, this was tech 15 or so that did that. 2 yrs and 17 more tech still dc'ing. Even with no phone pluged in and calling the house with me cell it dissconnects
so:

so wtf is the problem and why cant they fix it??
have had all fillters tested and replaced

and have had the speeds changed from 1.5, 3.6 and 7.1kbps all with the same results
ohh ya forgot to tell you evrey tech that comes out test the line @ the nid and jack says everthing is great 14543kbps then look at me like a deer in headlights when I pick up the phone and the dsl dissconnects, then they say that a problen in the CO ( centrel ... Read more

A:verizon dsl disconnects when, phone rings pickedup or hangup

This is clearly an ISP issue, and they're the only ones that will be able to fix it. Since they've installed the DSL filter and a direct line to the modem, that's as good as interior wiring gets.

The techs are correct, this is a problem either in the lines coming to the house or the CO.

This problem began last week after my connection dropped off completely but once it returned after about an hour my internet would disconnect (not when the phone rings) but rather when it was answered.

I looked into the issue online and found it could be related to wrong settings on my Netgear router (which I checked out and was fine), the other issue that came up was filters.

So I rang AOL who said to change the filters and I put two new filters on and this seemed to stop the problem until tonight.

We changed the filters on Thursday and the problem stopped so we thought fantastic! Until tonight the phone rang and off went my internet.

It's odd as the disconnect only occurs when the phone rings and the connect immidiaetly restablishes after the phone is put down.

I'm wondering if there is anything further I can do as I feel like I'll hit a brick wall with my ISP (AOL!!!!), I've heard that it could be my router/modem is there a way to test this?

Anyone experienced a similar problem or have an idea how I can solve it or what the issue is?

Every time my phone rings my wifi signal temporarily disconnects. I use Verizon Fios and my router is a Actiontec MI424WR , the phone that is doing this is a Vtech 2.4GHz model 2428. I've tried changing the channel on the phone but cant seem to get it to change. I dont have a control panel on the main pc to control the router so I can't change the router channel at the moment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thnx in advance.

A:Phone Rings= Wifi DC

Actually, you change the channel of the Actiontec router by logging into the router's web based configuration. If you have a connection to the router, you have the "control panel" to change the channel.

Welcome to the board,

ok..are you sure your turning the system off and not putting it into standby..

Check this: go into Start > Control Panel > Phone & Modem Options > Modems Tab > Select your modem, click on properties > Select the Power Management tab:

Make sure the box labeled "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" is not checked.

If it is uncheck it click ok, and you'll be fine.

But why your system is going to standby when you select Shutdown would still be a problem...but one at a time let me know if the above info fixes the first problem before we move to problem 2. :D

A:getting knocked offline when phone rings

If you are using DSL, I suspect you have either wiring issues or a missing/defective filter.

Here's my RX for bad DSL wiring.

Purchase a DSL splitter and install it at the telco service entrance. Run a direct line from the DSL port on the splitter directly to the DSL modem. Connect all of the other phone instruments to the telephone output of the DSL splitter. All of the DSL analog side wiring should be CAT3 or better twisted pair from the telco service entrance to the DSL/ADSL modem. You can use one of the twisted pairs in CAT5 cable if you have that on hand.

This is as good as it gets for DSL installations, and will usually solve in-house wiring issues.ing issues.

When ever i am on my laptop or playing my ps3 and my house phone rings i instantly lose my connection. Both of these things are connected via Router (Wirelessly).

So today I decided to call comcast (I have Comcast High Speed Internet) so when i called them they said that I needed a booster and that they would send a technition to hook it up. But is this really what i need?, is there anything i can do besides getting a booster?

And what would this booster do?

Thanks,
AceGuy

A:Disconnected when house phone rings?

I have no idea with regards the booster but do you have filters on all your phone sockets. I know that here you need a filter to separate the voice part from the Internet part and the router connects to the line through the filters.

That may not be anything to do with your problem but those are my thoughts.

Go into the modem settings and turn off the auto answer. If the modem is set to answer when a signal is comming in it will activate the computer. I also do not think you are fully turned off check to see if you are in Hybernate mode and turn that off so when you shut down windows it actually shuts off.

The first thing that comes to mind is that you have call waiting and it needs to be turned off. To make the modem ignore the call waiting inturept, go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Modems and under Dialing Properties, near the bottom is a setting to disable Call Waiting. Check that and select *70 from the drop down box.

I am still using dial-up as my main source of Internet access. I use a PCI SoftV92 Modem hooked up to a home phone line. This is the only line into my house, I have a slitter plugged into the line, with two ports, one has a line plugged in that is connected to the modem on my PC, the other has a line that connects my telephone. The telephone is a dual-system, it has a cordless phone and a base phone (not cordless).

My modem worked normal with my phone ever since I had my PC. Normally, when the modem was connected and one would lift the phone off the hook, you would hear the various noises of the Remote computer on the other end. If someone called while the Modem connection was active, they would hear a busy signal.

Recently, I had to reformat my HD. So of course I had to reinstall windows. So of course I had to reinstall the drivers for my modem.
This was about 5 days ago. Ever since, if someone lifts the phone of the hook, the modem will automatically disconnect. This is true with both the cordless phone and the base phone. If someone calls, they still get the busy signal and the modem does not disconnect, but if someone lifts the phone of the hook or turns the cordless phone on (like one would do to get a dial tone) noises can still be heard from the phone, but the modem disconnects.

I have searched through the various settings on Internet Properties, modem options, connection settings and stuff like that on my PC.

The phone does not seem to be doing thing out... Read more

When I turn on the Internet (I have a modem), it works fine until I turn other programs on then the Internet basically turns off, but the computer says I'm still connected to the Internet. Why is this doing this and why is the Internet turning off?

If I'm downloading something off the Internet say a game demo or a game update the Internet would just turn off like I said before and then I would have to disconnect and then reconnect and try redownloading and sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't.

I found a pattern or it's just coincidence, but when the downloading box isn't the main thing selected for a while the Internet turns off. Someone please help and don't tell me to ask my ISP he's the other word for donkey.

But now Ive realised, that whenever I try to download a large file which takes several minutes, my computer will disconnect from the router and I have to let windows do its thing and it says its "Resetting Network card" After this I have to reboot the PC and yet again let windows do its thing where it tells me to let it reactivate my network card. When Ive done this Ill be connected to the internet again. Ive tried to let my PC run for several hours just to make sure its not random dc's but within 5 mins of me starting a download it dc's. I can browse around just fine and have tried countless of different solutions around the web and none have helped so far. Now I beg you to give me Every single possible solution that you guys can think of. Keep in mind that I have another PC running vista connected to the router and that one works just fine, and I never had this problem on XP.
Also please keep in mind that Im not all that techie when it comes to router settings and such, so keep it simple for the sake of my brain not overheating!

Sounds like a network driver problem but I don't see any network driver downloads fro Windows 7 X86 or X64 on the ASUS site for the Gigabit network device.

As a test, remove the router from the setup and connect directly to the broadband modem. Try a download and see what happens. If it fails the same way then the router is definitely involved. If it doesn't fail then try swapping the port and cable the router is connected to with the one currently in use by the Vista computer then try the test again.

If it works then it is either the Ethernet cable or some problem with that specific port on the router. If it doesn't make any difference, then try deleting the Gigabit network device from Device Manager as follows:

Press WinKey+R to open a Run box.
Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter
Expand Network Adapters
Right click on the Gigabit device and select Uninstall
Reboot and wait while Windows 7 rediscovers the device and reloads the driver, see if that helps.

Hi,

First welcome to TSF!!!

Next I would try a couple of things. Start off with a power cycle of your equipment, and see if that helps. Next you would need to narrow it down to what is causing the problem. Does it only happen when you are using chrome or does it happen with other browsers, more to the point does it happen with other programs that use the internet like email, instant messaging, etc. Are you running any programs that allow you to torrent, that can cause issues with your connection.

Cheers!

Hi theriffs1

I have Verizon DSL also, I was receiving the Pop up ballon: An network cable has been unplugged about every hour.

I would need to physically reseat the ethernet cable, (are you using an ethernet connection or a USB connection?), finally I purchased a new ethernet cable and that problem went away.

I did call Verizon, they have a free upgrade from 1.5mb/368kbps to 3.0mb/768kbps, it was offered to me without my asking.

Have you tried an ipconfig/release, ipconfig/renew from a command window?

Start > Run
key in:
cmd /k ipconfig
Click: Enter
The information appearing will show you what your IP address is, and how long before it expires.
My IP address renews itself every 15 minutes.

At a command prompt in the same command window key in:
ipconfig/release
Enter
Then key in:
ipconfig/renew
Enter
Your IP address should be renewed.

Have you had any viruses that may have corrupted your Winsock?

Let us know if this makes a difference or not, and if you don't have the upgrade yet, call Verizon and get it!

My connection to the network is reported as excellent but randomly the actual download speed drops away to nothing.
Does yours "mend " itself after a short while and start working again...or is yours off for good. I find rebooting the laptop resolves it faster than waiting for it to do it itself...until it does it again(not good).
I use a belkin router (number can be supplied when I get home if needed) ..maybe thats the common?

I am using a laptop on a wireless connection, think this also may have something to do with the freezes it get occasionally.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Welcome to TSF.

We will take a look at your system for malware, but it's unlikely the cause of loss of connection. If we can't locate a problem, you will be encouraged to ask for advice in the Networking forum, here at TSF.

Download HiJackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HiJackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose [Do a system scan and save a logfile].
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit [Scan] and then click on [Save log].
3. Post the HiJackThis.log file here. Do not fix anything in HiJackThis since they may be harmless.

Hello, I just got a new computer and I'm having internet problems. I used to use an old XP desktop with direct connection and it stayed connected, used my vista laptop with direct connection and it stayed connected, and now with my new W7 desktop the internet does not stay connected. It just disconnects and reconnects in a split second. This interferes while I'm playing games (3 different games), it'll tell me I have lost connection, and when I check my internet connection it says I'm connected. Sometimes I see the little internet connection icon on the bottom say X then a little loading circle then back online in a second. It interferes when I'm streaming also. It happens every 10-30 min or so and it gets REALLY annoying. Anybody have similar problems? Any way to fix?

I have a Compaq Presario-AMD Athlon 64-3500+-512mb-200gb. Running windows xp sp3, updated and malware clean. I am stuck with dialup connection until [email protected] upgrades our area. I sometimes leave my pc running a download all night. I usually use orbit downloader but some downloads work better with no manager. Since I reinstalled windows my connection gets disconnected at at different times and redials the connection, but only at night when I leave it downloading a large file. In internet connection I have checked "never dial a connection". It is just an annoyance but I would like to fix it. Any help will be appreciated. I forgot to say that I use IE7 and have tried connection keeper ( with same results). Tried firefox several times but it was slower than IE on my pc. Thanks again. Lots of good advice on this site.

My internet randomly disconnects for half a second. For instance, most of the time I have ventrilo and mIRC open, and sometimes (a lot of the time) an online game (TF2, CS etc) My internet will disconnect me from all of them at the same time, then I try to get back it and it lets me, so it seems its only disconnecting for like 1 second, then its back on.
