I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Recover Product Key

Nomercy Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! It really depends on the version of MS Office. With MS Office 2010 and earlier, the product key was stored in the registry when the product was activated.  Those registry entries can be retrieved using a product known as Belarc Advisor: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html Starting with Office 2013, MS introduced something known as Click-To-Run (CTR) and in these cases, the product key is ONLY stored on the MS Activation servers, as the product is downloaded and installed from MS.  IF you have one of these versions, you can ONLY get the product key from your MS Office online account. If the product was NOT installed, then when you got the PC, you also got a card containing the product key.  If you lost that, you are out of luck, as HP does not keep any record of individual product keys associated with individual PCs.Good Luck

After replacing hard drive in my dell 5040 laptop it wont activate. Can't read label on bottom and all the product key finders return the default key which cant be used to activate. Contacted dell who sent me recovery media for windows 8, which can install windows 7 if you have installation disc and product key. Windows pre-loaded and no discs came with the purchase. Downloaded the software from digital river but it still would not activate and am now getting not geniune message. Contacted microsoft to activate by phone but they wanted me to pay $60 dollars to fix problem or to upgrade to windows 8. I have tried buying replacement key but all the legitimate window 7 key links are dead and lead to windows 8 purchases.

Can someone please help me either find a way to recover my key or tell me where I can buy a legitimate windows 7 key (without the software).

The official Dell OEM discs are pre-activated. As most new/newer PC's do not come with an OS Installation disc, where did you get the Win 7 disc?

Dell does not keep a database of the Product Keys so they would not be able to give you the key that is on the tag.

My desktop computer crashed last week. Luckily I had everything backed up, so no problem there, and since I have another partition with XP on it, I was able to access any files I needed right away.

Windows 7 will not boot, so I assume the MBR is corrupted. I'd like to just reinstall Windows 7 on that partition, but I can't find my disk. I can download a clean copy of Win7, but without the product key I'm dead in the water. Is there any way to recover the key from a non-bootable partition?

Yes by using this :- https://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/

Install the free one in your XP, run it, click on Tools > Load Hive and browse to Windows 7's 'Windows' folder > OK
It will show the 7 product key next to 'CD key' in the right pane.

Check under the battery for the sticker with the key.  HP, in their infinite wisdom, started placing it there a couple years ago.  Other than that I don't have a good suggestion for recovering a key from a drive that has been reformatted.

Hi,

I tried the sniffer product key programs to recover my product key (I have legitimately paid for and own the Windows 7 Professional key) but I am getting "do not have permission" error when sniffing old hard disk for product key.
Any ideas on how I might recover the Professional product key I own? (I have tried about 6 sniffer programs but all deny access to external Windows 7 directories)

Thanks for any help.

Hello Windows 7 Forum,

I'm not sure if this is the right section to be posting this thread, so mods please move this if there is a more appropriate place for it.

Here is my situation: I recently received a copy of Windows 7 Pro from the Microsoft Academic Alliance through my college and had installed it on a spare HDD in my computer. Recently I have upgraded my mother board, and naturally, I needed to reinstall windows. Since I had activated windows before switching my mobo, Windows will not let me reuse the key I received from the Academic Alliance.

Is there anyway to retrieve my key to reactivate without having to buy a new one, or am I SoL?

Any help would be great, and please let me know if I can further clarify.

Thanks

_Casey_

A:How to recover a previously activated product key?

Normally a mobo change will be too big a hardware change to allow the reuse of the same key without an activation call to MS which is elevated to a person. That person makes the determination.

Have you spoken to the MS activation rep yet?

Most manufacturers replace with the same mobo for this reason, since it can be a key-killer.

I know it can be done because when the Geek Squad replaced a mobo for a friend last summer, they told him they have a way to reactivate the OS reinstall with a new mobo. So I would call around to several of them ("polling the Geek Squad" I call it) to find out how.

swimdrasyl Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!Sorry, but the utilities that retrieve the Windows product key from the UEFI firmware run ONLY in Windows. Here is an example:  http://www.tenforums.com/software-apps/2577-showkey.html Second, your PC came with an HP OEM version of Windows, and not only does no one make that available for download (including HP), but the version that MS has requires a Retail product key to download (which you do not have), and even if you DID download it, it would not activate using the key in your PC because that key works ONLY with HP OEM versions of Windows. If you will provide the detailed product number of your laptop, I will check to see if HP Recovery Media for Win8.1 is available. You will find that information on a sticker like the one below, usually in the battery compartment:We can proceed once you provide the information. Thanks

The Windows product key on the bottom side of your notebook is an OEM license key. That means this can?t be used with other Windows versions.

Hi ifhope,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Your product key is embedded on your board so that it should automatically activate once you have it online as long as you installed the same version that came with your machine. Some would need to run Windows update first and some restarts.

Your systemboard with part number 90002745 (Mb Viwz1 Mb W8s 76 Gv 2G B) do have Windows 8 Standard edition. Try to run Windows update first and restart as needed.

Update us how it goes.

A:Recover Window 10

Hi, Alberto: If the recovery manager works, it will install W7. If you previously had upgraded to W10 and it was successfully activated, you can go right back to W10 by using the Media creation tool at the link below and clean install W10. When you get to the window during the installation process where you are asked to input a product key, select the 'I don't have a product key' option, and W10 will install and automatically reactivate once you are connected to the internet. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

A:Window 8.1 Pro Product Key

WARYAA Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about needing your product key and wanted to help. With Win8x, the product key is embedded into the UEFI firmware on the motherboard.  You can retrieve it by following these directions:  Product Key - Find for Windows 8 However ... you have a bigger problem.  Your Win8.1 is not activating because you most likely reinstalled Win8 from an image your downloaded from the Internet or from an MS DVD -- and those images are Retail versions. Your PC came preinstalled with an HP OEM version of Win8 -- and the product key from that can only be used to activate the HP OEM version, not the Retail versions.  So basically, the version you installed will not activate unless you go out and buy a license for it. What will work is restoring your machine to its original factory condition using HP Recovery Media.  This is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities. In some cases, you may be able to order a USB stick instead of disks.  You have to order these from HP; they can not be downloaded. You can look online for Recovery Media starting with the linked paged: http://support.hp.com/us-en/driversOnce there, input your Product name or number. Hey Guys,

In 'System Information', there's a link that says 'Get more features with a new edition of windows". Clicking that brings up an 'Enter Product Key' page, and it is only at this point that I realize my product key isn't stuck to the bottom of this PC.

So, researching this on Google, I found a product key that Microsoft Released for the Trial:
NTTX3-RV7VB-T7X7F-WQYYY-9Y92F

So, my question is: Will my Windows 8 Product Key work with 8.1 Preview?
If so, I think I would rather dig that up than use a generic key.

If it doesn't, and I need to use this generic key, what happens at the end of the Preview when everyone has the same Product Key.

Will Windows 8 become an Operating System where you'll need to pay for the updated OS after the preview? Ie, paying for and getting a new Product Key?

And last, does anyone know what features entering a product key will actually unlock?

Thanks, Kurt

So, my question is: Will my Windows 8 Product Key work with 8.1 Preview?
If so, I think I would rather dig that up than use a generic key.

If it doesn't, and I need to use this generic key, what happens at the end of the Preview when everyone has the same Product Key.

Will Windows 8 become an Operating System where you'll need to pay for the updated OS after the preview? Ie, paying for and getting a new Product Key?

And last, does anyone know what features entering a product key will actually unlock?

1- You can upgrade from Windows 8 without entering a product key, but for a clean install you'll always need a product key. You can enter the generic key or a key received from MSDN in case you have a subscription. Windows 8 keys do not work for a clean install.

2- At the end of the preview, if you upgraded from a valid Windows 8 install you'll be able to upgrade to RTM without a product key, but you will lose all your apps. If you installed the preview form an ISO or upgraded from a n... Read more

Hi, Please do not messing up with Microsoft. Hopefully the key is still in the BIOS of your machine, please use the following tool to get it:   http://www.belarc.com/free_download.htmlWhen run this tool, it produces a report, scroll down to Software Management section. Windows 8, 8.1 or 10  product key is in there. You can also use the following tool to find out:  https://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/Regards,

Hello, I am running win7 rc 64bit build 7100 in Dual monitor mode. I have a problem finding/moving an applications window that has gone out of the viewing area. I am new to Vista/Win 7 interface and not familiar with how to move a window with the arrow keys as I do with XP by right clicking on the running application in the taskbar and selecting Move. The application is Sony ebook reader. This happened when I had to remove one of the dual monitors for repair...upon returning it to the configuration, the ebook application starts, but the window is no where on either display. If I right click on the running application in the taskbar, there are no options to move. Other then removing the application, prefs and reinstalling...is there a way to bring that window back to the active areas? Thanks.

A:Move/Recover Offscreen Window

Windows 7 has a cool new feature that should help.  Click the icon in the taskbar to ensure that the program has focus. Then hold down the Windows key and press the right-arrow a few times. That should move the window across your screens and eventually bring it back onto the screen that is still active.Dave Bishop

A:Reinstall Window XP- Product Activation

Dell OEM disks do not require activation.  If the SLP key is missing this means you did not use DELL OEM media OR you are trying to use XP on a system that did not come with XP.   Microsoft DOES NOT provide support for SLP activation or OEM Versions of windows.

"Microsoft feeds synchronization" errors are XP Internet explorer errors and has nothing to do with Activation."
XP is end of life End of support AND microsoft has removed the downloads for Service pack 1 and 2 and 3.

Reinstalls of XP require service packs as well as IE8 minimum.
Its probably too late to get most of the links below.

XP is no longer supported. I highly recommend you download all 4 gigs of the files below to a flash drive because later on they will no longer be available.

All of the Dell CD's I have have Dotnet 1.1 sp1 on them.  You have to install your dots in order.  CHIPSET Should be FIRST before anything else.

There will be tons of stuff to install if you don't have even with SP3

IE8 being one. DOTNET 1.1 is on the XP CD from dell.

I strongly recommend you download the files onto a flash drive because there is no telling how long these will stay.

It wont let you backtrack.

Do any of you guys who had Win8 preinstalled on your new computers have the problem of the PC Settings window keep opening up on its own. The right-hand side of the window states: 'This Product Key doesn't work.........etc. The bottom of the window states that it should have come with an email on purchase of the computer.
When I query this with both Acer & Windows they tell me that the Product Key no. is in the BIOS. That's all well & good but how do I stop this window continually opening?

A:PC Settings-Product Key. Window keeps opening on its own.

Can you post a screen shot of the window ?
