Newbie questions. Will anti-spyware, etc. slow down comp? Best way to optimize comp?

Q: Newbie questions. Will anti-spyware, etc. slow down comp? Best way to optimize comp?

I have been reading on different sites to download different anti-spyware programs. Right now I have:

1. Ad-aware
2. Spybot
3. IE Spyad w/ Zoned Out
4. PC pitstop driver alert
5. Spyware Blaster
6. ATF Cleaner
7. PC Pitstop Driver Alert
8. Hosts Xpert
9. Windows Defender

Will these slow down my system, or make it take longer to shut down and restart my comp? Is there anything on this list that I should not have? If it's not a big deal, does anyone recommend any more apps I should download or things to do to make my system better?

If I install almost all of the reputable spyware removers and system optimizers, etc. on my comp, will it slow down my system? Will there be any negative consequences?

Right now I would opt for a faster computer over a secure one, so I would prefer speed over an increased possibility of a virus, etc (still want an anti-virus though). I'd like my comp to shut down and restart quickly, but of course it's not that big of a deal.

With that in mind...I was wondering what the computer "gurus" think is the best way I can optimize my computer? If you have a lot of experience, then what would/do you do, and what do you download for your comp? What programs should I download or buy? I'm willing to pay money for programs that I can buy at the store or pay to activate full versions of trial software, etc. if it will help optimize my computer or help my computer's speed. My system specifications are at the bottom of this post.
Also, what is the best anti-virus that you would recommend?

My comp came with Norton 2007, and I just upgraded to Norton 2008 at the recommendation of an HP customer support specialist.

I realize these are subjective questions, but I can't understand why that is. I would think that there would be a "best" program out there for everything. Really however I'm just interested in an expert opinion.

Right now I am running disk defrag on a daily schedule. I regularly run ad-aware, spybot, ATF cleaner, and the disk cleanup tool. I just deleted a lot of junk on my desktop, a lot of programs/junk using the add/remove programs window, and went into the folder browser and manually deleted several things. I very rarely run scandisk (where you have to restart your comp). I don't think I have ever heard anyone mention it. Should I run it more often?

I used to have 3 antivirus programs, but someone recommended against that, so I only have Norton now. Would it be ok if I also installed AVG antivirus along with Norton?

Would it be beneficial to download all the antivirus' free trials as possible and do a scan on my computer with them just to make sure I don't have a hidden virus, and then uninstall them all?

Is the best way to do a full scan with an anti-virus (such as Norton) in safe mode?

Thank you. I know there are a lot of newbie questions on here, but these are the things I've always wondered, so I thought I might try to post my questions.

My main question is just how do I best optimize my computer for speed (besides what I'm already doing), and the secondary question...what is the best anti-virus. Is Norton any good?

Thanks a lot for reading.

Preferred Solution: Newbie questions. Will anti-spyware, etc. slow down comp? Best way to optimize comp?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Newbie questions. Will anti-spyware, etc. slow down comp? Best way to optimize comp?

As a rule, you use:
1 firewall
1 antivirus
* Norton is not the best program around, and it's a resource hog, but since you bought it, you'll have to live with it until it expires.
* Using more then one of each is asking for problems (conflict).
As for antispyware programs, you can have as many, as you want, however, I wouldn't use more then 2 as startups, since you want fast computer.
Your computer specs look very good, but the lower number of startups, the better (this is another thing to check).
As for antispyware, I'd keep Spyware Blaster as a startup program, and I'd add a-squared: http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/
You may want to run others, you have once in a while, or when any problem arises.

In addition, you want to keep your computer clean of garbage, and for that purpose, you want to get CCleaner: www.ccleaner.com

Once a month, you want to run defrag. I recommend free jkDefrag: http://www.kessels.com/JkDefrag/ instead of Windows defrag.

That's about it. If you have more questions, please, ask.

Well dude.. i would just go with ad aware.. it wont really slow the comp down

somthing activly scanning such as norton avast etc.. will slow your comp down by taking resources... just go with a scanner like adaware that doesnt use resources..

EDIT: Norton sucks... seriously

Hello, I consider myself a fairly advanced computer user, but I'm having an issue I'm 99% sure is MalWare related. My laptop freezes CONSTANTLY, sometimes out of nowhere, and sometimes when I walk away for 5 minutes. I have tried numerous times to run AVG, Ad-Aware SE, and both freeze shortly after the scan starts (also tried in SAFE MODE). Now sometimes I can browse the we for hours, but as soon as a start a scan, install, or update, these issues are more common. I am fairly confident that this is not a hardware issue, since I've ran advanced diagnostics on them all, including BIOS. I have a HiJack This Log, and help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi all,

This isn't really a security question, but it does involve anti-virus software so I hope it's in the right forum.

I just reformatted my old IBM Aptiva for a friend, did a clean install of Win98 SE and it's still almost as slow as when it had a trojan virus! It is an older machine, an AMD K6 - 266 processor, 32 MB Ram, but I was wondering since I installed some anti-virus software if this could be slowing it down? I have installed the following freeware programs:

-AVG Free
-Spybot S&D

I checked the minimum system requirements for all, and it seems to indicate that it's ok, I just wondered if anyone has an opinion as to whether any of these programs are too much for the system and may be slowing it down, and if so if there may be some better alternatives. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hello everyone this is my first post here and I'm needy today...

My company has most access to the hardware/software locked down so I'm limited to the things I can do.

My problem is that my computer runs slow. I'm on XP and have several files for our customer base; email is huge but I keep most of them in archives in my Outlook 2007 I have 3 different inboxes one for my main corp email, one for voice mails through Call Pilot and the other for the department I run. I also have an ACCESS database that runs I open and store information in for purchases of our customers since 2009.

Not every day but several days throughout a month my computer will begin to lag similar to how your pc reacts when it's updating new files from Microsoft and along with this the computer begins to run loudly like a jet engine going to take off - it's really not that loud but it's noticeable.

I have given up on working with our IT team as it usually takes them quite a while sitting at my desk to complete a simple task (i'm really SOL if I need a pw to complete the task then I have to rely on them) so what I normally do is troubleshoot items through a Google search and fix it myself. For this I'm stumped.

I will open TaskManger but I really don't know what I'm looking for. I understand the Applications tab but the others that I can view are Processes, Performance and Networking. I will go to processes and begin ending items and hope that things will... Read more

Hi everybody.

I'm having a problem with my computer. This will happen occasionally. When I shut down my computer, it will reboot instead, and I have to shut it down again for it to shut down. And also, when the computer enters into sleep mode, the computer will sometimes restart on its own and a message will appear on the desktop saying something like, your system has recovered from an error.

What info would you need to help me in diagnosing this problem.

I'm running windows 7 (Service Pack 1)
It's an Alienware
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 930 @2.80GHz

Please bare with me. I'm trying to learn as I go in solving this problem. Much help is greatly appreciated.

Hi. to TSF. Start with disabling automatic restart in case of system failure. To do this, click Start, search for System and select it. Alternatively right-click My Computer and select Properties. On the left are options similar to the ones shown in the image below, click the Advanced System Settings option.

A dialog box opens with the Advanced tab in focus. In the last section called Startup and Recovery, click the Settings button. In the dialog that opens, uncheck the Automatically restart option and set it to collect Small Memory dump as shown in the image below.

Next, follow these instructions to enable driver verifier. Make sure you create a system restore point as stated in the instructions.

Lastly, follow these instructions and attach all of the required files in your next reply.

Hi, firstly i have signed up to these forums because of it seems that this is the only site where people actually know what they are talking about and the tech support looks superb :)

I first noticed this yesterday 6pm-ish that i had these processes running on my comp: "SYS32DLL.exe", "pp08.exe", and "ld08.exe". I then noticed, as other people have, that pop us were trying to connect to the internet etc. I have on my system AVG Antivirus (free edition) and this didn't pick up anything, not did "ccleaner"

My sys info:
WinXP media Centre Edition
Service Pack 3

I have read many forums about this virus and i have run a few checks but unfortunately i get a bit trigger happy and i booted up in safe mode and deleted the above files then i did the following:

chkdsk (repaired a few things, didn't get log)
CCleaner (fixed a lot, i think i have the logs)
UnHookExec (as i had heard that this messes around with your shell dll's?! so got this to correct it)

Then as i said before i get trigger happy and ran combofix which did run and correct a few things. I have the log of this too.

However the problems i had when i deleted these files are still here, cannot run the internet (firefox) by clicking on the exe file, although i have recently connected my email to my outlook express (had to do this as the web server kept going down) i was able to click the link to your site from an email and here i am in the internet but through IE7.

A:SYS32DLL.exe on my comp! Internet not working, newbie please help!

Combofix should never be run without the supervision of an expert.CCleaner is not a virus or malware remover, it is simply a temporary file cleaner. Please download DrWeb-CureIt and save it to your desktop. DO NOT perform a scan yet.Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".Scan with Dr.Web CureIt as follows:Double-click on drweb-cureit.exe to start the program.Cancel any prompts to download the latest CureIt version and click Start. At the prompt to "Start scan now", click Ok. Allow the setup.exe/driver to load if asked by any of your security programs. The Express scan will automatically begin.
(This is a short scan of files currently running in memory, boot sectors, and targeted folders). If prompted to download the Full version Free Trial, just ignore and click the X to close the window. If an infected object is found, you will be prompted to move anything that cannot be cured. Click Yes to All.When complete, click Select All, then choose Cure > Move incurable.
(This will move any detected files to the C:\Documents and Settings\userprofile\DoctorWeb\Quarantine folder if they can't be cured)Now put a check next to Complete scan to... Read more

Heyguys. Its been a while and I need some help. I got a few questions below that I need you guys to answer if you can, thanks!

1) I'm planning to buy a new laptop (Yes, Laptop, not PC since it's hard to ship here in the Philippines) and my budget is $3200 (not including tax). Which company should I order from? Alienware, ABS, Dell, Falcon, Voodoo, etc? I'm leaning towards alienware right not, but I want your guy's opinion.

2) What hard drives should I include with my laptop? Should I just get a single or raid paired drives? My computer right now has a 40 GB harddrive, and I'm only using about 20 GB, so I really don't need much space. I was thinking of getting dual 36 GB 10,000 RPM on a raid 0. I heard that makingit a raid can make my system go faster, especially on file transfers and games.

3)One I order it and ship itto my Mom in Las Vegas, she's going to bring it in here It here in the Philippines for good. Will that void any kind of warrenty I have with the company that I buy my laptop from?

4) I heard the "Minibox" PC's are a good alternative to laptops (since it's light to ship here in the Philly and also, I don't plan on moving it from place to place and relying on a battery). SO in my case, I'm wondering if this would be a good idea instead of buying a PC or laptop. If this is a good idea, which company should I order from?

5) If I happen to buy a minibox instead of a laptop, what kind of screen shou... Read more

Hi there, In a bid to make my computer run faster and smoother for Uni, Im having a massive clear-out of it (Getting rid of all those History essays from 5 years ago etc!)

I have a few questions though which I hope you can help me with:

1. Before I had this computer, it was my mum's, and she left a few programs on it relating to her work (Programs to help fit hearing aids). When I got it she said leave them on in case she needed them but she doesnt any more, so Im taking them off to get rid of them as they are just taking up space.

However, a few of them dont appear in the 'add/remove programs' list. Not sure why, they just dont. Am I ok to go into the program files folder and just delete the folders they're in? or do they have to be uninstalled properly (and how would I do this if they arent on the list?)

2. Theres a few things in the add/remove programs list that I have no idea what they do, and a few things that Im not sure if I need or not. Could someone have a look at the following list and tell me if I can delete anything from it?:
Microsoft Office Proffesional XP with Frontpage (I also have an entry on the list for "Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003), do I need both?
OpenMG Limited Patch 4.4-06-13-19-01
OpenMG Secure Module 4.4.00
Adobe SVG Viewer 3.0

3. Lastly, Over the years I've downloaded and installed loads of fonts onto my comp, I now realise that they are contributing to making my computer run slower by having them all installe... Read more

Welcome to TSF....

What is the make and model of computer?

Do you have the recovery/restore disk set for this computer?

What you are doing is admirable but should be done with great care and not speed.

First thing is to make an image of the system using an imaging program like Acronis True Image:

This automatically backs up the registry and everything on the computer so if you mess up you just restore everything from the image.

On un-installing programs do it one at a time and reboot the computer after each one is removed so you know if the computer is going to be messed up, if it is then run the acronis and restore the image and you are all set to continue.

Actually if you have the recovery/restore disks and the install disks for all of the programs you want installed the best and easiest way is to do a clean installation or full recovery of the computer using the OEM disk set.

I've got an annoying problem I'm trying to smooth out. On my 3-computer LAN, I've got network shares set up on all three comps. (Not homegroup; not public folders; those aren't workable for my situation.)

On my main work computer ("Comp A") (Win 7 Home Premium), whenever I open the sharelist on either "B" or "C", I have the extreme pleasure of waiting 8-10 seconds before the shares on the requested machine are presented.

Other than that, the shares work perfectly, except for the annoying delay every time I want to use Comp A to open the list of shares on Comp B or Comp C.

What I'm sharing: My user directory on each comp. (I'm the only user on this 3-node LAN.) Sharing with Homegroup or Public Folders isn't feasible.

When the delay happens: Courtesy of Wireshark, I've learned that when the delay occurs, it occurs after "Negotiate Protocol Response" and before "Session Setup Request".

I'm also getting the same delay behavior on one other computer (Comp C), but only when accessing the share list Comp A. Here's the specific run-down...

Computer A
Windows 7 Home Premium
8-second delay opening shares on Comp B and Comp C.
Computer B
Windows 7 Ultimate
No delay opening shares on Comp A or Comp C
Computer C
Windows 7 Ultimate
8-second delay opening shares on Comp A (Home Prem.) but *not* Comp B (Ult.)
I'd really appreciate any troubleshooting suggestions. End result: When I click a computer to ... Read more

I recently set up a workgroup called "workgroup" so that my two PC's could share files.

The XP comp is called Qing, and can access the workgroup and log onto the linux server called Han (running Fedora 6 with Samba) . Once logged onto Han from Qing, I can see the shared folder, but when i try to access it I get the following message:

"\\Han\share is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found."

On Han, the linux comp, I have set up a shared folder called "share" with full permissions.
I have enabled NetBIOS over TCP/IP and rebooted and still no luck,
I have searched the internet and these forums for a similar problem but was unable to find anything that I could use.

Any help would be great!

I want to be able to print from my XP Computer to the Vista computer in the other room, wirelessly.

XP Home
Vista Home Premium
New, Shared Printer

Printer on the Vista computer is "shared"...I don't know anything about networks
I use control panel: "add a printer" -> "A network printer" -> "Browse for printers" -> it shows some sort of window with icons that don't really mean much to me:

One category is called "Workgroup" and when I click it, the Vista name of the computer in the other room shows up, but nothing happens when I double click that. I connected to a wireless printer a long time ago this way when one was connected to an XP computer, and the actual name of the printer would show up.

Does anyone know how to do it?

So suddenly my desktop wallpaper is covered with some bogus anti-virus ad and pop ups keep coming up about this anti virus program. This has happened once before. Also, it's blocking my spybot so that it stalls about 1/3 of the way. I have HJT, could someone take a look at my HJT log??

A:anti-virus Malware has gotten onto my comp, Help!

Welcome to TSG

Please click Here to download HijackThis to your desktop.

Click the Download button. When the Trend Micro HJT install box appears, double click on the HJTInstall.exe. Click on Install.

It will be installed by default here: C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis

A shortcut to the application will also be placed on your Desktop.

The program will open automatically after installation.

You can double-click the icon that was placed on the Desktop to run subsequent HijackThis scans or you can use the icon inside the folder. The folder HijackThis is where you will find the HJT logs that you save. When you use the application to remove anything, you will also find the backup copies made by HJT inside this folder.

Close all other windows except HijackThis.

Click on "Do a system scan and save logfile" When the log pops up in Notepad, copy and paste that file back here.

Do NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hey, what is up with Jammer 2 and Anti-Hacker? After installing Jammer, or about to finish, some box thing popped up with an ok or whatever deal. I don't wanna try it again to find out what it said exactly, it was the usual however, not a warning message or error thing.

Anyways, I press ok, and it restarts my computer. Ok, this time I try it again and press ok again and it restarts again.... so this time a press ok when it shows the main screen again for every program but jammer, (I have alot of freeware messages pop up) I let jammers query sit for a while as I do some stuff, I get back to jammer and press ok, and what happens? My comp restarts, ONLY THIS TIME I don't even get a chance to force close it, it gives me 5 seconds of seeing my screen or less after the next restart and again and again AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN, I think that's about how many times. I had to pull off some fancy insanity to prevent the next restart. So what the ********************************************* was that all about, an anti-hacker program acting like a virus????????

Ok someone tell me what was up with that, ANNNNND with this one too, I install anti-hacker since jammer was insane. And what does anti-hacker do.... it didn't do it in exactly the same way jammer did, but it happened when I made the attempt to run it. Thankfully it didn't restart my comp over and over mercilessly. I just got my new laptop and I am trying to transfer files from old computer to it. I tried to set up a home network by following the wizard. When I go to My Network Places from my new computer, nothing shows. I tried pressing the View Workgroup computers button from there and all I got was:

"Home not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions."

What should I do?

A:Network Problem. New comp can't access old comp.

Create a file in notepad named FIXANON.REG with the following contents:

------------------- Use text after this line -------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
------------------- Use text before this line -----------------

Double click on the file and say Yes to the merge into registry question.

If that doesn't do it, let's follow these basic debug steps.

Turn off any firewalls for debugging. If the firewall is the problem, you'll have to configure it to allow access to "trusted zone" addresses. Note that some firewalls must be completely uninstalled to stop them from affecting your networking.

PING each computer by IP address, and if successful, PING by name. You can obtain the IP address of a computer by opening a command prompt (DOS window) and typing IPCONFIG. This should work for any Windows version. A failure here needs to be corrected before you go any farther.

Check your Services are Started on all PCs: Workstation, DHCP Client, DNS Client, Server, TCP/IP Netbios helper, Computer Browser.

All computers should be in the same workgroup for computer browsing to function properly. File & Print Sharing has to be enabled on any computer you wish to share files or printers from. You also need to actually share the resource in question from My Computer, right click on the drive/printer/folder, and select sharing.

64-bit has to be a clean installation.

My dad has expensive construction software that he needs on a day to day basis, but his laptop is dying and very slow. Currently his laptop runs Vista x86, and I wanted to give him my laptop that runs 7 x64. Could I swap the hard drives so that its an easy transition, or would that not work? Thanks for any input and suggestions.

A:Hard drive from one comp work in another comp like it did before?

"his laptop is dying and very slow"

that might mean his hard drive is bad, or that he has too many programs/malware installed, in which case you would not want to put his drive in your laptop.

But to answer your question, it depends on how different the chipset drivers are between the two machines. But if you have the win7 x64 install dvd, you should be able to do a repair install if windows is not able to boot after switching hard drives.

Well this is my first post. I am a fledgling hobbyist at this computer thing and I got this lil comp from my friend for free. It was working great and I was really enjoying checking emails and listening to music on it while browsing the webernet. Two days ago I encountered a virus on the comp while installing some pirated (eeek) software. Needless to say I got my due! I tried to move them but nothing worked and I also tried to recover the taskbar using ctrl-esc. Hello Stephmz, For now, download Ad-Aware, configure , update and run it , allowing it to 'fix' all its finds. >>>>>>>

Go here: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
and download Ad-Aware 6 Build 181

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right-hand corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest reference files.

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------ON=GREEN

From main window: Click Start then Activate in-depth scan (recommended)

Click Use custom scanning options then click Customize and have these options selected: Under Drives and Folders put a check by Scan within archives and below that under Memory and Registry put a check by all the options there.

Now click on the Tweak button in that same window. Under Scanning engine select Unload recognized processes during scanning and under Cleaning Engine select Let windows remove files in use at next reboot

Click proceed to save your settings.

Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

Restart your computer.
Next , Download Highjackthis >>> http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html
Download to a folder--unzip and run a scan only. Do not "fix" anything.
Copy the results of scan log back here.

Ok so here is the story. The other night I am using my comp on Internet Explorer and I think I accidentally clicked on a pop-up though I am not positive. My homepage is normally MSN so the next time I tried to go to it, it said "about:blank" in the field where you type in the website you want to go to. What came up was like an error site that said site not found and was some generic error webpage. I continued to surf fine and then wanted to check if everything was ok with the homepage so I went to tools and internet options and under my homepage, it had it as "about:blank". So I went ahead and changed it back to msn.com. Then I clicked off to see if it worked and it went back to "about:blank" again. I have Spybot installed on my comp so I ran it and got rid of a few items and then went to bed. Last night I go home to try to use the computer and nothing works. I tried to get on MS Word and the same result. I tried to use the Media Player, same result, all grey windows making me close out. I ran spybot about ten times. Everytime the same two items were coming up and I would have them removed and it said it removed them but they were always there on the next search. One of them was called Cydoor I think? I was using a 30 day trial of AVG premium when it expired the other day. I downloaded the Free version and ran the program. During the install, I was given 3 options to
1) Repair AVG
2) Remove AVG
3) Download, Run, and Install the free version.

I clicked the third as it was the option I wanted. During the install I was told that the Free Version did not have a firewall and was given the option to turn on the Windows Firewall, I clicked yes. Everything went smoothly. After restarting my computer, I noticed I had no internet connection. I have gone into the My Network Places and done the connection wizard to no results. Nothing on that Computer will connect to the internet, however, my xbox360 and my wife's computer (which are all on the exact same modem and wireless router all connect fine. I have checked the cable connection on both ends, restarted the modem and router, even unplugged my wife's cable and put that in my computer and still no internet.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

A:Comp wont connect to internet after anti-virus change

go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Device Manager do you see any yellow marks next to devices like the Network Adapter? If so, you need to download the driver for that device at your computer manufacturers Support/Download Drivers page. If not, then go to Start/run and type ncpa.cpl and press enter. Right click the Local Area Connection/Properties scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP-IP)/Properties, Make sure Obtain an IP Address and DNS Server Address Automatically are both checked. Then go to Start/Run and type CMD and press enter. In the Command Prompt type ipconfig /release and press enter. the IP Address changes to now type ipconfig /flushdns and press enter. Now type ipconfig /renew you should have a new IP address try going on the internet.

So I just got a new system with Vista and I was wondering what I should do about the security aspect of protecting myself online. I wanted to know if I should get rid of this crap firewall that Windows has built in on here and if so what I should get to protect myself from viruses and spyware.

I also don't really want something thats going to slow me down but I want to stay safe at the same time. Also on my last system, a XP system, a friend told me to do this and it got rid of most advertisings on the webpages I go to.
Step 1
hosts file is a big list of dns you use internet through, you can block websites you don't want to visit, like advertising companies.. also known as parasites
I have a file that will do this automatically for you. It edits your hosts file and blocks all the known parasites, and I checked the file it includes webstat.net (this one gave me the most problems). I'll upload the file to my web space, and write the link on the bottom. After you download the file, all you have to do is unzip the file into a new folder (anywhere) and double click on the mvps.bat, and you're done.
Hosts.zip -

(he had a download link here)

Step 2

Go to..
Start > Run...

Type "cmd", without the quote marks, and press enter.

Command Prompt will open up, in there type "ipconfig /flushdns" again, without the quote marks and press enter.

That will flush all your dns cache.

A:Comp full of spyware...HELP

first thing you need to do is move HJT to a permanenet position so that it can create back-ups. also, make sure that it updated.
When you are done with that:

Download AdAware 6 181 from here: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the "webupdate".

Then ........
Make sure the following settings are made and on -------"ON=GREEN"
From main window :Click "Start" then " Activate in-depth scan"

Click "Use custom scanning options>Customize" and have these options on: "Scan within archives" ,"Scan active processes","Scan registry", "Deep scan registry" ,"Scan my IE Favorites for banned URL" and "Scan my host-files"

Go to settings(the gear on top of AdAware)>Tweak>Scanning engine and tick "Unload recognized processes during scanning" ...........then........"Cleaning engine" and tick "Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion" and "Let windows remove files in use at next reboot"

Then...... click "proceed" to save your settings.
remove anything it finds. when you are done, please go to www.download.com and download Spybot 1.3 and run after you make sure that it has been updated. It is very easy to use, if you have any questions, please ask.
When you are done, please go here http://www.spywareinfo.com/~mer... Read more
