i dont know anything about computers so i will need a detailed explanation and i need to know how to fix it!! it just stays on the compaq screen
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Before the problem started was anything added to or installed on the system?
Try booting to Last Known Good or Safe Mode.
Restart the computer during the boot process repeatedly tap "F8" you should get
the Advanced Options.
Let us know if able to get the system to boot with either option.
Laptop turns on but nothing on screen, it doesnt turn on at all.
I tried connecting a monitor to the laptop but still nothing
it powers up fine?
What could it be? What steps can i take next?
I have seen people offering to repair laptops such as mine for about £70-£80 on Ebay but i am unsure if my symptoms qualify.
Please can someone offer me advice? Im willing to try a number of things as need this for 2nd year of Uni (computing)
Thanks in advance
You may have to press a keyboard key to enable an external monitor. If you have already done this, the motherboard or CPU may be fried. Laptop motherboards and CPU are constantly subjected to overheating, specially if you place an operating laptop on a bed or carpeted floor often
the DVD drive stopped working and now the hard drive has errors.
I got an external USB DVD drive on it, but chkdsk cannot seem to repair the hard drive.
Anyone got any idea how to fix it or recover data off of the hard drive. I got a year's worth of work on it, and none of my files show up. Just "File record segment XXXXX is unreadable" errors about a million of them.
Suggest you stop using the drive until you can recover the data.
It is likely that drive has failed or is going into total failure.
You can purchase a replacement drive for $42 to $75 depending on size and whether you get the 5400 rpm or the 7200 rpm in a 40, 60, or 80 GB model.
You can obtain an adapter to put the drive into a desktop unit as a slave. The adapter converts the mobile 2.5" hard drive by adapting the pin set for the desktop EIDE cable. Adapters are available many places, including www.geeks.com, www.cyberguys.com, www.frys.com, www.outpost.com, and others... cheaply at $2.45 to $9.99 depending on where you get one.
Then you can usually drag and drop the data from the mobile drive to a desktop drive, or use drive recovery software, then you can burn a CD to then migrate it to your new drive... or just use a USB transfer.
( We work on a great number of the Presario 2500's with identical problems. Did you know there are 434 different models of the Presario 2500 series of laptops?)
With the new drive, you just use the recovery set that came with your laptop, or buy the set for about $30, including shipping, from the Compaq parts department.
But you likely will not ever be able to use that drive again. Thus, you do not want to stress it further by more restart or rescue attempts.
Can anyone suggest how to stop my CPU running intermittently at 100% please. I have scanned PC with MS Security Essentials, A-Squared Free, Spybot S&D and am running Windows Defender - nothing malicious found. Using Process Explorer, it showed many high SVCHost.EXEs running. I have manually turned some of these off now and CPU running at 30-60%. Not realy sure what I am doing and how to turn things off permanently - any suggestions greatly accepted!
PC has 1G of RAM and use an Intel 2.6Ghz Celeron processor - it's an old but useful laptop and would like to use it at it's normal speed again.
Click start, run, type msconfig and press enter.
Under Startups, uncheck everything BUT your antivirus/firewall (if there)and close out.
Reboot and see how it operates for a day.
Upgraded my Presario 2568 to WinXP, everything works, except the on/off button for the integrated wireless lan (front right side near blue LED and IR). This worked before the upgrade from XPhome. There is a heading under Start Menu called Utilities:
Start Menu>Utilities>Wireless Configuration
There is a dialogue box that opens, and says "The following devices are controlled by the wireless on/off button. Click an icon below to turn one device on or off."
There is nothing in this list. Anyone know how to get the HP WLan 54g device listed in there?
Have you gone to the HP website and download all the updated XP Device Drivers? You may also want to check the FAQ on that site to see if its a known issue.
One last thing, Go into Control Panel -> System -> device manager and see if there's any missing drivers or errors.

During the last few months, my laptop has been used a considerable amount. Unfortunately, my sister borrowed it while I was away at my orientation for college. She broke parts of the keyboard (the parts holding the key into place, and some other things), and I am currently using it mostly taped together. Lucky for me, the tape is holding and still working...
However, my dad who has been a computer guy for many years, wants to replace the keyboard unit, so that way when I get to college it won't be as bad.
The laptop itself is a couple years old, and I don't want to get a new one.
So I was wondering if there are any step by step tutorials for a Compaq Presario 2500. Any help would be much appreciated.
My Windows laptop PC Compaq Presario 2500 runs very slow. There aren't that many programs but things like opening folders, opening programs, even right clicking take a long time. Starting up takes forever as well.
I have tried doing a full system adware/virus scan, deleting the temp. internet files, and the temp. computer files that show up in the WINDOWS folder of the hard drive. Is there a program that can make a computer run faster? Perhaps there are something that I'm missing. Or is this model laptop such a slow computer that no matter what I do it's always going to be this way?
I was thinking of getting an apple mac laptop but I want to try and see if I can do some simple steps to get this running faster than this. Internet surfing in Firefox is actually fast at least. The keyboard isn't bad in any way and besides a mouse hub hardware problem (can't be fixed) it's in great shape. Please let me know what I can do here, thank you much.

Hi all. I'm new here but not what you would call new to computers. I have a Compaq Presarion laptop sitting behind me that is giving me fits! A friend of mine got it as a gift. Its got a 1.5 ghz celeron processor, 256 mb of ram, and a 40 gig hard drive.
Here's the problem. When he got it, windows was corrupted and wouldn't boot to windows without a ton of error messages. He told me to wipe the drive clean and re-install XP. He handed me a fresh, recently purchased version of Win XP home and told me to do away with HP's proprietary version of XP. I figured, easy enough. I've done this kind of thing many times with many older computers.
Well, here's the problem. It won't let me do a full format from the XP CD during the first few pages of setup. I can do a quick format of the drive and continue on. However, during setup, I get errors. I've formatted and reinstalled the OS several different times, not always getting the same error message. I completed the install once (with errors) and when I got to the desktop, there was no start button or system clock .... or even the usual recycle bin icon. Nothing was there .... I could ctrl+alt+delete to reboot, but that was the only way to shut the system down.
What is different about these compaq presario notebooks. How can you do a low level format .... or a full format for that matter. How can you get it to take a regular microsoft version of windows XP? I've already wasted countless hours fighting with this laptop.
Bump ... there appears to be no pattern to the errors I'm experiencing. Can anyone help?Read other 7 answers

Hi, My Computer a Compaq Presario SR1810NX with Windows XP Home Edition SP2 is having an issue with it wont get past the Compaq Logo Screen, like, I press the power button the PC powers on, Fan Speeds up and then slows down as normal, keyboard lights flash as normal and the Compaq Logo along with the v3.48 and ESC = Boot Menu options appear on screen, the things is that it wont get past this screen, it just sits there at the Compaq screen, the keyboard and mouse dont seem to be interacting with the PC since I press ESC or F10 for boot mode or system recovery but the PC wont answer at all, I've already Disconnected power source unplugged mouse, keyboard all but PC is doing the same thing just sitting at the Compaq Logo Screen, the computer doesnt make any sound at all no beeps or anything, it wont let me access Windows at any time, recent installations well could be that I just installed a Mobile Bandwidth Card just a couple of weeks ago, and also just a few days ago I connected my iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen to the computer and the computer wont recognize it at all, not even charging, I know this might be a virus or malicious software, but my computer has barely connected to the internet in the last weeks (I couldn't pay the Internet and I had to use my friend's Mobile Bandwidth Card I mentioned before) all I did while in Internet with the Mobile Bandwidth was some schoolwork and youtube videos, I need help urgently with this since I have to deliver a very important proyect for scho... Try a power drain.
1. Unplug power cord
2. Hold power button in for 60 seconds or more then let go
3. Plug in power cord
4. turn on the power and try to boot to setup (BIOS)
If it enters the BIOS then you should be able to just press F5 to reset to defaults and then F10 to save and exit. The PC should work now.
However, if after the power drain you still can not get in the BIOS than there is a MAJOR problem which would require some type of repair.
hey i recently got a compaq presario v6000 from a friend and when i turned it on for the first time i noticed that it made 3 short beeping sounds which i found out that it doesnt have a bios image but anyway the power light a battery light flashes and then reboots but i cant see anything on the screen at all when its powered on. also the fans power on for at least 2 seconds then they turn off. i dont have a hard drive but i need to at least get to the bios so i can reinstall the os using usb drive.
any help would be great and aslo people have been telling me that my motherboard could be warped how would i fix this without buying a new one because i have no money at all for the laptop.
It looks like you may have Bad Ram: Compaq BIOS Beep Codes - BIOS Central.
Computer Does Not Start and Emits an LED or Beep Code Compaq Presario SR5510F Desktop PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English) Or it could be the Video adapter on the motherboard. Try removing one stick of RAM and get to the Bios. You can also download the ISO image for Memtest in my signature burn the image to CD with IMGBurn also in my signature or USB and boot off of the disc and run the tests on each stick of RAM separately.
NOTE: THIS IS A COPY OF MY POST ON THE COMPAQ FORUM...getting desperate.
Hi, i bought a 6150b from a company auction. Everything worked perfect for the longest time. Then last week i went to go turn it on, and all it does is run the CPU fan for a couple seconds, flash the AC LED about 7 - 8 times, and while thats flashing the power and hard drive LED’s stay solidly lit. Then it completely turns off. This all lasts about 3 seconds at the most. That’s what happens when on battery power.
When on AC power, the same thing happens, except it continues doing the cycle over and over again until I unplug it.
I think it might have something to do with the LCD monitor, since it does not even show a slight flicker at all. No color change like it would from when turned off to a black back lit screen when turning on….simply nothing.
I opened her up (no warranty anyways) and checked all the connections for the keyboard, monitor, DVD drive etc....also reseated them as well, with no luck.
Pulled the both RAM modules and reseated them as well, nothing.
Pulled the battery as well, no change. Still cycles the same over and over again while on AC
There are no audible errors codes (real nice HP...), and im lost at this point.
Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.
I think instead of just pulling and replacing the CMOS battery you might purchase a new one and install it. Proceed from there. If you get a screen and it's still has a problem try a new PSU. Jazz
Yes, its possible, two screen screwups in one night. And with the same company too. My brother has a Compaq 2500 and yesterday, one of his fans on his heatsink went out. So, being the computer brother, I open up his laptop and unscrew everything to get to the fans(very very carefully), install the fans, put everything back together as it looked and turned the computer back on. The fans worked great, only I had a new problem. The screen was blank. Now, in my previous post, I mentioned how the backlight wouldn't work. Well, this was the opposite. The backlight worked perfectly, just that the screen wouldn't display anything. I was thinking, maybe its just the video component, not the screen. But, when I plugged in an external monitor, sure enough, the external worked and the internal didn't. Backlight works, no input from the computer. I reopened it and made sure all connections were secure. Any suggestions? (A hammer sounds really good, but its not my computer )

The power LED comes on,
The HD recieves power and makes a small noise,
The Floppy Drive will act as if it is about to read a disk but does nothing,
The following does not start: Fan, screen, BIOS, DVD-ROM drive.
I do not know the exact specs of the computer, but i know it has extra RAM installed. I have tried starting the computer without the HD, extra RAM, the battery, and the modem. I am running out of options and I really need this computer.
Same Thing happened to me. I had to reinstall my OS again. Try and run Your operating system cd. Say xp cd boot disk.
My machine had a power loss during start up and i cant get it up and running again can someone please help i have many things on the system that i just am so desperate to keep.Current Situation.
Power up moves in loops of on off after 30 seconds with the following on screen message,
We apologize for the inconvenience but windows did not start successfully A recent hardware or software change may have caused this.
If the computer stopped responding , restarted unexpectidly or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders choose last known good config to revert to the most recent settings that worked.
If the previous start up was interupted due to a fpower failure or due to a power failure or because the power or re-set button was pressed or if you arnt sure what caused the problem, choose start windows normally.
Safe mode with networking
safe mode with command prompt
Last known good configaration (The last one that worked)
Ive tried all of the mentioned above and am still stuck in the loop of on off ect i have a recovery disk(the recovery disc doesnt have a menu and its all i had with the pc) but the prompts for this tell me all my data will be lost should i go ahead so im i in a dire as situation as i can be or can someone truly help me out (the system if windows xp).

Compaq Presario 2210us laptop.
Computer came into shop wasn't keeping correct system time. I figured it was a dead BIOS battery. I took the laptop apart and replaced the battery. Should solve the problem right? Wrong. It keeps the correct time when it is on and booted into windows. If I turn off or restart the machine when it is on AC power it will keep the time thru a reboot or being turned off overnight. The problem is when I either reboot or turn the machine off without being plugged into AC power it looses the correct time. Most of the time it will have the time it was shut off or rebooted as the time.
I tried to repair the W32 time and also tried a third party sync software to sync with a time server. This works, but only if connected to the internet. I'm totally out of ideas and really need some help!
References I found:
1 - http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/...hreadId=981999
2 - 'I started noticing that my laptop will turn itself off (while on charge) for no reason whatsoever, then the clock on the lower right hand corner started messing up in such a way that I had to sync it with the internet every morning and then when I would turn off my laptop and turn it back up the next morning the time would have stuck at the time I had switched my laptop off the previous night.' from post 30 @ http://220.127.116.11/search?q=cache:...&ct=clnk&gl=ca
i need help on what to do. my computer shut off by itself and now windows wont open.
When you start the computer, does it start to boot and give you the Compaq logo or is it just a black screen? If the former, then Boot off of the XP CD Or download the Recovery Console ISO. Burn it to CD with IMGBurn and get to the Recovery Console. Here type chkdsk /R and press enter. The Check Disk utility will try and fix any file errors.
You can also download the ISO image for Drive Fitness Test in my signature and burn the image to a CD using IMGBurn and boot off of the newly created CD and run the short and extended tests on the HDD to test the integrity of the drive.
I have a Compaq Presario Computer with windows XP on it. recently i started getting an error message which says lsass.exe and the computer doesnt go any further after I click on ok which is the only option there. It just goes to a blank black screen. someone mentioned to me that i should try to do a system restore on it through the safe mode, but that doesnt work either becasue same error comes even in safe mode. i have tons of data on this computer and i cannot afford to lose it. i need a way to recover my data. it seems to me that the only option i may have is ot do a system recovery through the cds that i got when i purchased the computer, is that true? someone also mentioned to me that if i have the Operating System CD then i might not have to do anything but just repair. How does this work? I cannot seem to find the O.S cd, where can i get it from? Is it the same as the Windows XP cd? also, this problem has been occuring since a few days now and of course i havent been turning on the computer since there isnt much i can do, so by this problem just being there is it making it worse or not? i just dont have the time right now but does that mean that the problem just sitting there is harming it further? Some people have also told me of how to recover data using Ubuntu or something, how good is that? please help me in this asap. thank you so much
You can use a number of Linux distros to tunnel through the back door of a Windows system for the purpose of rescuing your files but if you have to burn a CD, it may as well be Hirens BootCD which includes MiniXP and once in there, you'll be in familiar territory to find and copy out your data on to memory sticks or an external hard drive.
When you've got it all, then go for the computer manufacturer's recovery disk and it won't matter too mucj if it restores the machine to the day it left the factory. You'll lose any programmes you've installed since then but hopefully, you'll still have the installation disks for those.
So my compaq presario wont turn on
I have tried doing a hard reset
Something to note is that when i plug the charger in the light dosent turn on to say its charging
The computer makes no sound at all when i press the power button

Compaq presario cq71-140ea. Was fine yesterday but this morning it will not start up. It switches on, displays compaq on the screen and then does nothing. Having dealt with a corrupted BIOS, removing the CMOS (coin) battery just resets the BIOS defaults, but you do have to remove the laptop battery as well. Did you remove both batteries ? I still would really like you to try and start the machine up with one memory stick removed. Here is quite a good youtube video, he mentions about the battery and electrocution _ you are not going to electrocute yourself, the voltage inside a laptop is very low and besides the battery will be removed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbvmRsSh210 Remove the top stick first (you don't have to bother putting the cover back on) , insert the battery back in and boot up. If no luck, remove the lower stick and try the other one. If it still won't boot up then I would say the BIOS is corrupted. If it boots then you have a bad stick of RAM. The RAM sticks are keyed, you can not put them in wrong, trust me this is a very simple thing to do. http://h20574.www2.hp.com/default.htm?lang=en&cc=US&hpappid=psml Here is also a link to the HP Media Services Library and some screen shots as how to get there. When you click on the link you may have to sign in again, give both pages time to load, especially the second one, it takes about 30 seconds. In the video it tells you to only touch the memory stick with edges, this is a good idea, but I have seen people treat it very carelessly and it still i... Read moreRead other 10 answers

I bought a Compaq Presario laptop a while ago (at least 2 years) and since then have traded it for something else to a friend of my now ex-wife. The screen quit working for the person so I bought it back for the charger which I needed anyways.
When I shine a light on the screen I can see everything and the computer works fine. What I want to know is if there are any settings on the computer that could be causing it to do this or if the screen is simply shot. Any help would be appreciated; I tried adjusting the brightness from the [Fn] + F7 and [Fn] + F8 keys but that didn't work.
Is there a brightness slider on the side of the screen on that one? Otherwise it sounds like the backlight has gone. You might be able to get that repaired.

My Compaq Armada 3500 won't boot past COMPAQ logo. It wont boot to Floppy or CD and I cant enter BIOS to change any settings. I have 2 of these laptops (I bought them both used). My other one had the same similar problem when I got it, but I fixed by removing the cmos battery for 30 minutes and rebooting after I put it back in without the HD in the case. It told me error 162 options not set, and date and time had to be reset, and to hit F1 to save the settings. I did and rebooted. It booted to my floppy Win98 boot disk fine, and then I put in a COMPAQ setup for portables and a DIAG floppy and set it up to boot to multi boot. It runs like a charm now for its size.
But the other one will not accept any of these options although it does tell me the same message after I remove the CMOS battery and put it back in as I did the other one. But when I reboot, it still doesnt see the floppy, CDROM or let me boot to bios to enter setup. It just shows the COMPAQ logo and says "non system disk, remove the disk and hit a key when ready." I have removed the hard drive, removed the CD ROM, and removed the floppy on seperate occasions to see if any of them were the problem, but no change. I took the whole thing apart, and put it back together hoping something would end up being connected to the problem, but it still doesn't change the problem. Next to selling it for parts, any ideas? Its in great shape, has a nice 13 inch lcd and good floppy and cd-roms, and 192 ram.

The LCD screen on my son's less than a year old Compaq Presario laptop (model number ZY222UA) is cracked and HP is not covering it under the warranty. Could some one please tell me where I could get a least expensive replacement. I am laid-off and my son needs it for his college in August.
Found this one...
BTW - your actual model is a CQ60-206US - that other number is HP/Compaq's catalog number for this beastie.
I've got this laptop and problem is -1. It boots - shows Windows is starting with the logo and the screen goes blank. After that it reboots. It doesn't shuts off. And it's kinda strange, because firts I see logo Q - for Compaq and display then shuts off, then goes up - I see WIndows logo. I can't get into setup. I've checked power adapteer - voltages are OK even though some chinese replacement. I tried without battery - only on DC power and same does it again. Could be this problem with the video? The screen on my Compaq Presario C700 has gone green and fractally. It looks a bit like its eaten someones' acid. Not ideal, and is a bit migraine inducing...
It comes back to life if I tilt the screen right back, which says to me its a loose connection somewhere. Its not the motherboard, as I have checked it on an external monitor and is fine...
I have disassembled and re-assembled and its still the same, and now have a query...
Behind the screen, along with the ZIF connector that connects at the top , there is a tiny white plug on a silver cable that isnt connected to anything, and I cannot see anywhere it should live. Is this for a camera maybe, or is this maybe my problem?
Please, any advise would be massively appreciated. The disassembly manual on HPs website was completely useless, it appears to be for a different model than the one I asked for...
I look forward to your reply
So, I have a Compaq presario CQ-60 running windows 7 home premium. I have been troubled by monitor flicker. its seemingly random. happens in pulses. almost like a block or grid flashes up on the screen, and it disappears. pretty frequently. in irregular places at irregular times. like I said, frequent but very random. I have a second monitor connected to the laptop's output, my dell HD 22 from my desk top and there is no flicker seen on that screen. I have opened the laptop and checked for loose, damaged wiring. it all inspects OK. ( I am pretty good with electronics) I am at the point where i am beginning to suspect my inverter circuitry is to blame because the monitor output does not flicker, so that should tend to isolate the trouble to the laptop's display circuitry. right? I figured since the display is bright, not discolored at all, and the inverter is supposedly hi voltage circuitry it just tends to seem logical that it could cause this random flickering because of the voltage or whatever. I tested the ram chips one at a time and they are OK. I also tested the HD with the segate downloadable diagnostics tool, and it passed the SMART test. anyways, anyone care to offer an opinion or question before I order a $15 dollar inverter chip? the computer has 2GB ram, intel celeron processor 900 @ 2.2ghz graphics is powered by Mobile Intel 45 Express Chipset Family (WDDM1.1) driver v. 18.104.22.1689any opin... So my laptop's screen is black. I'm using my tv right now with it, it works fine hooked up to a TV. I've tried everything I know of. When the laptop first starts up, It flashes the red compaq screen, then goes black. Flashes the user login screen, then goes black 2 sec later. When I do the fn+f4, the screen flashes back on, everything looks cool, then 5 seconds later it goes black again. It's not just the light, it goes completely off. (Just on the laptop, external monitor works) I've tried restoring back to factory settings, recovery, and I'm not getting anywhere! I've even tried that black screen fix by Prevx. Oh and I also tried turning the laptop off, holding the power button, etc. It has windows 7. CQ61 I think is the model.
I wasn't really sure if this was the right place to post it, so sorry if I'm in the wrong section!

So my sisters laptop's LCD screen just stopped working a few years ago and I'm not very familiar with innards of laptops so I just didn't bother with it and it's been sitting in her closest ever since.
Well I finally decided to get around to seeing what was up with it and I ended up taking the entire thing apart piece by piece. Not really sure why, just kinda felt like it. Before I took it all apart though I decided to see if I could plug in a separate monitor and have it work to see if it was a video card issue or not. It worked just fine so it was definitely not a video card issue.
Windows wanted me to activate it for some reason so I tried but my CD key was apparently invalid, so I said screw it and installed Linux, and then took it all apart.
My guess right now is that the LCD screen is just plain messed, or it's a cable issue, the cables looked fine to me though. I'm just posting here because I wanted to be sure I'm not missing something. I've done soo much wandering around Google for answers but there aren't many to be found except everyone else and their mom has had the same issue with Compaq's.
If it turns out the screen is messed then more than likely the computer will be junked, not even worth spending $200 for a new one. So if anyone else knows anything I don't about the situation I'd love to hear it because I'm stumped right now.
EDIT: Sorry about that, will watch myself next time.

I could not get my laptop to start today. I took out the battery to rest it. I can get it to turn on with the battery out when I plug it in but I am stuck on a red screen that has the compaq logo. In the bottom left it says Press the ESC key for Startup Menu. Nothing happens when I press ESC, I am just stuck on this screen. Any ideas?

Hi, guys. I want to connect my laptop to my TV screen to watch movies downloaded. I know it has a port to connect to TV and when I plugged it in to TV, it didn't do anything. None of the channels or changing to TV/VIDEO, input1, input2 worked. Do I need some type of a driver? I'm running XP home ed. Please help! Thanks in advance.
Hi, I've got a hp/compaq laptop that has been having screen issues for awhile. It started as a couple vertical lines on the right side of the screen and has grown over the past couple of months. My friend said it was from the ribbon cable that connects to the motherboard being pinched or faulty. If I applied pressure in certain ways to the screen i could make the lines go away. So anyway, flash forward to today and I open up my laptop and my screen is a mess of liquid colors. There is a spidering of cracks originating from the bottom of the screen and when I pushed on them the screen proceed to crack all the way across it. There are multiple fractures in there now and teh screen is obviously screwed. My laptop is still under warranty however. I called up tech support and they said they would send a box and I would ship it to hp and it would take 7-10 days and if it was determined that the problem was caused due to an accident they would call me.
My question is this: the screen is definitely cracked, I don't know what happened but I did not physically drop it as far as I know. I don't know what criteria they use to determine this, but I don't want to send my laptop in only to find out a week later that they are saying I broke it and it is not covered under warranty and then charge me an arm and a leg for the service and new screen. My laptop is crucial for my work and I need it serviced as fast as possible, especially considering my desktop just crapped o... Read more

I've got a Presario 2200 whose screen flickers black and white horizontal lines at some of the angles its positioned at. Usually if I open it up at a big angle it's fine, but as I go more acute the flickering starts. At some point the screen even goes black.
I tried opening it up to see if I could identify anything wrong with the connection but it seems fine. I even disconnected and reconnected the display cord. Still flickers.
Anyone have an idea of what I could do to fix this flickering?
One more thing, which is more my second priority... the wireless networking in the laptop doesn't work. The blue wireless button won't even turn on. What should I check? The wireless antenna cables in the Mini PCI communications board seem fine..
Here are the laptop's manuals: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=442823&lang=en&
Thanks in advance. =)
What shows on an external monitor?
Hope you can help me.
I have a Compaq Presario C300 Laptop which i am working on.
The screen is faint so at 1st i thought it would be the backlight or the inverter. I changed the inverter to a new working one and no change was seen. I then changed the screen to a working one and that still didn't fix the problem.
I have hooked up the computer to an external monitor and it works fine.
I now am unsure what the problem can be other than the cable.
Can anyone else give me an idea as to what the problem is?
Thank you in advance.
When I start the computer up it goes to bios screen. It will not let me continue by pressing f2. F1 takes me to help screen, but when I exit that it is right back to bios screen and f2 does nothing.
