Samsung 850 EVO 250GB, serious migration problems.

Q: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB, serious migration problems.

Hello and thank you in advance for your help!

I bought a new Samsung 850 EVO 250GB for my old aging computer and this happened:

1. Cloned my old c: drive to the ssd, replaced it and everything went fine for a while until i started getting an infinite loop.
Windows wouldn't boot. Did a registry recovery via command line but my windows installation went to hell to forcing me to reinstall.

2. From this point everything went to hell, and after multiple windows reinstalls here's some of what happens:
- Windows installs but errors immediately follows;
- Some windows updates install but eventually start failing until windows update fails completely;
- Windows installs, updates install but eventually windows fails to load and enters repair mode claiming startup errors;
- Programs stop working for no apparent reason, some examples: Browsers won't run, file associations disappear (class registration errors), explorer;
- Driver problems with peripherals,
- File system corruption errors;
- I got situations where the computer would get stuck in a reboot/system restore/repair loop
- Automatic and manual restore points disappear making it impossible to restore to an earlier time;
- Changing the sata mode to IDE instead of AHCI seems to solve some of these issues but eventually the system locks up, the hdd light stays on, and after a reset the ssd doesn?t get recognized at startup. I have to power off to get it back but it?s the same all over again.

3. If I install windows on my old drive everything works fine?

So can you guys help?
What do you think? Defective SSD or incompatibility with my hardware?

I?m really at a lost here and could use some help?

Thanks

Preferred Solution: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB, serious migration problems.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I've been looking at some of the features in Samsung Magician, and ran the Benchmark test twice. Both times I got very high scores, above the max listed in the program for all 4 tests. I have the drive set to MAXIMUM RELIABILITY. Just wondering about the scores reliability.

Scores in Parentheses are Samsung 's listed maximum high:

Sequential Read
549 mb (540)
Seq write
532mb (520)
Random read
97442 (97000)
Random write
70189 (66000)

Benchmarks are artificial at best [and a benchmark from the mfg is tailored to that particular piece of hardware] I would think you would get different results using a another benchmark program such as ATTO.

In short do not put too much emphasis on any given benchmark. Modern ssd drives are reliable and it should last for quite a while so I would not worry about the drive.

This is just what is says. A fresh win 10 install on a new SSD. Do not explain to me about cloning.

To date I've upgraded the BIOS (UEFI) on a ASUS P67 Performance Gen3 motherboard. I've changed the SATA Mode to AHCI. I can see the drive in the BIOS.

The Windows installer the page where it lists the drive partitions. I only see one drive partio

Drive 0 Partition 1 239.9GB 232.8 GB Primary

I get the error
Windows can't be installed on drive 0 particion 1. (Show Detailes)

The New button is greyed out and when I select next I get

We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one. For more information, see the Setup log files.

Thoughts?

Hello hiltonr92 and welcome to the forums. See if this will help Windows 10 - Clean Install

Are you installed in UEFI Mode? If so, when you boot from the USB drive use the entry that says UEFI and the name of your USB. If not in UEFI, boot from the name of your USB without UEFI in front of it. Delete all partitions on the drive until it says unallocated and then click the 'NEW" button. The installer will create all the necessary partitions. I hope that helps.

Hi,

Just purchased a new Samsung SP2514 250 gig hdd and XP can only see 32239mb.

Tried using samsung's drive overlay to install xp, but gave up + uninstalled it -(the drive overlay).

I booted from the Xp cd + installed but XP only sees 32....gig's.

I have enabled big LBA by using EnableBigLba from www.48bitlba.com to no avail.

From searching through the forums, I see that a BIOS update may be necessary.

Do I also need to update my motherboard + chipset?

If so, are reliable updates available free on the net?

Any step-by-step instructions would be greatly appreciated.

Thx in advance

Hi guys,

I was going to do clean install Windows 10 but there was an issue of GPT so I decided to convert into MBR. I didnt selected the volume by mistake and clean the whole disk.

Before there was 2 partitions

C: 150GB
D: 88GB

Now there is only 1 partition

C: 238GB

I have very important data on D drive and I am very confused right now.

Moreover, its still GPT and I also checked on Lupu Linux maybe if its on RAW but its not connecting through usb case.

Regards.

I replaced a Kingston 128GB SSD with a Samsung EVO 250GB SSD. Cloned Kingston SSD to new Samsung SSD using Acronis True Image.

Now, when I boot, it sits there for 30 seconds flashing the hard drive light blinking then proceeds to boot normally. All BIOS settings are default.

Hardware details in Specs.

Booting from the 128GB SSD was fine, no obvious delays.

Any idea what might be causing this? Could the new SSD be defective?

A:30 second boot delay with new 250GB Samsung SSD

Hey Rich,

Since it's for 30 seconds, it sounds like the time it waits before the default OS runs automatically. You might check to see if that may be it.

A:anyone install samsung 850 evo 250gb in 3542 laptop?

Whether you can use one depends on which version of the system you have.
One version has a Celeron CPU (N30xx) and an embedded 32G eMMC drive - this one CANNOT  be upgraded to a 2.5" EVO SSD.
The higher line model has an i3 CPU and comes with a 500 G hard drive.  That model CAN be upgraded to a 2.5" EVO SSD.
Yes, the EVO will be immensely faster than a conventional hard drive.

Hey guys,  I have the Lenovo Ideapad 520 (80YL00RXIN) and wanted to replace the CD Drive with the Samsung 850 Evo 250GB Solid State Drive  in order to increase the Boot Speed and over-all speed of the laptop.  So, the question is, Is the Samsung 850 Evo SSD compatible with my laptop? And will it fit in terms of size, in place of the CD Drive? Also, is it recommended to add the SSD? Any downsides to doing so?  Lastly, will I, someone who knows the basics about computers and the internal components of a computer, be able to install the SSD myself? Or would I rather outsource it to someone who deals in things like this? Thank you. Regards,Neel.

Hello,

I have the following:

- Asus X99-Deluxe/U3.1
- Intel i7-5820K Extreme Hex Core CPU Processor (3.30GHz, 15MB Cache, 28 Lanes)
- Samsung 950 PRO NVMe M.2 256 GB Solid State Drive
- Asus STRIX GTX970-DC2OC-4GD5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 Graphics Card

I have only the Asus Graphics Card in the PCIEX16_1 which is running at PCI-E 3.0 16x as expected. I have removed the USB3.1 card that comes with this motherboard for testing purposes so I literally only have the Graphics card installed.

The board has an onBoard M.2 x4 Rev 3 connector which the Samsung 950 PRO is installed into.

I believe this connector should allow 32Gb/sec bandwidth (since it uses PCI-E 3.0 x 4) - please note there is also an optional card where you can add the M.2 (or a second M.2) into a PCI Express slot - I'm NOT using this card, just the onBoard connector.

Samsung Magician says the following:
- Controller: Samsung NVMe Controller (Driver Ver: 1.4.17)
- PCIe Slot: PCI Express Root Port 1 - 2F03
> Link Speed Cur: 4Gbps, Max: 8Gbps
> Link Width Cur: x4, Max: x4
> Bandwidth Cur: 16Gbps, Max: 32Gbps

The performance data also suggests this - the read speed should be a lot higher but seems to be reduced, whereas write speed which is a lower number is over the actual "Upto Speed".

It appears as if my SSD is running at PCI-E 2.0 speeds? The bandwidth is being throttled. Any ideas how I make it go to 32Gbps instead of 16Gbps?

Thanks in advance!

A:Asus X99-Deluxe/U3.1 + Samsung 950 Pro (250GB) M.2 Speed Issues?

Believe it or not, I've just stumbled across the solution.

I am using high FSB Corsair Dominator sticks and had them using an XMP (Extreme Memory Profile) - essentially my memory was overclocked.

I thought I'd try running in "normal" mode ie. stock settings and when I checked, the Samsung Magician is now showing as 32Gbps!!

The motherboard must sacrifice something to run the Memory at the higher clock speed which means it can't run the M.2 at PCI-E 3 and has to drop it to PCI-E 2.

Worth baring in mind for anyone else trying to achieve these elusive 32Gbps speeds

Hey,

Has anyone tried to use the Samsung Data Migration software for other brands? I have a new Crucial SSD and, faced with a 263MB (!) Acronis d/l over a torpid internet connection, am wondering if my Sammy disc will work.

Anyone?

A:SSD Samsung Data Migration software question

The last I checked, a Macrium Reflect download is under 50 GB and can clone or image to a new disk.

I wouldn't think it would hurt to at least try the Samsung software, but it might balk outright and quit if it does not see a Samsung drive as the destination.

Hello Dell Community!
I just got the Dell 7559 and added an 250 GB Samsung M.2 SSD and cloned the 1TB onto it. In disk manager it shows a partition of 11.41GB that was not cloned onto the SSD (see pic). Everything else was cloned fine, I've searched the internet and cannot work out what this 11.41Gb is. Is it just Dell drivers? I want to format the 1TB drive now but am afraid that I'll lose valuable info on the 11.41GB.

Ok so i had a little issue a couple days back, ended up solving it but a new one has kinda come up. When i used Samsungs Data Migration, all seemed to be working fine, plug it in for the first time boot it up seems to be going well and then bang! Windows 7 is not genuine, consider activating. Go to activate it and it seems like i cant. Did notice the OEM in the key but i thought that only mattered with big changes like motherboard and CPU not a bloody SSD.

Any solutions guys? Would like to use the new SSD asap, back on my old intel one for now.

Greetings,

Has anyone got a Samsung SSD contact email or help forum?
I am about to clone my Windows 7 HDD to Samsung SDD EVO 850.
I cannot find any info how to cope woth two Windows existing partitions - System Reserved and the main one - C:.
Does Samsung Migration software clone automatically both partitions or it arranges the process according to its needs to make an SSD drive fully functional?

Is there any possibility to clone all current partitions using Samsung Migration Software?
Would Acronis True Image cloning software be preferred (Acronis Boot Disk with cloning tools)?
Do I need a System Reserved Partition on SSD drive?

Many thanks.

PS
On my other computer I have 3 partitions:

1. (no name) 39 Mb - Healthy (OEM Partition)
2. (no name) RECOVERY 750 MB NTFS (Healthy (System, Active, Primary Partition)
3. HD (C 930.74 GB NTFS (Healthy (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition)

Shall I clone all of them to SSD or... ?

How to cope of all those Windows partitions while upgrading to SSD drives?
Does Samsung Migration Software do the job in truly satisfying manner?

I will deeply appreciate any helpful suggestions, recommendations and best advices.

Thank you very much in advance.

Problems on initializing Samsung 80GB with Samsung's Disk Manager: Ontrack(tm)

Hi!

There is some problem on my 80gb Samsung HD. The situation is this:

I have had an old computer which have an ancient motherboard.. because of the limitations of motherboard it was initializing Hd as 8gb.. I installed Samsung's Disk Manager program named Ontrack. It does something with the MBR to make the 8gb initialized HD as 80gb! When you're in bios setup, it says your samsung is 8gb but when you reset and wait for the system disk error message Ontrack activates and then your hd is 80 gb, you can install OS after that.

Here is the problem: I bought a new computer whose motherboard to initialize my 80GB hd as 80GB also, but things didn't happen like that. On bios setup it says my HD is 33gb.

I plugged the HD to my other computer and its partition magic 8 says "33gb BAD" also..

A modified MBR by a program (ontrack) can fool bios setup? if so, can i use XP CDs system recovery console with fixmbr command? ?f it is not how can i make my hd back to normal (not for old motherboards, initialized as 80GB)??

New motherboard is MSI RS482M2-IL and because of this problem I cannot enable S.M.A.R.T. feature. I need help and thanks from now on!

I came across this forum through a good search hoping to help fix my problems.

Around Christmas I got a Kaser Storage Vault 250GB because I needed how much space it offers for the price. I am one of those weird people who wipe their computers every so often just to have the clean feeling.. *I have OCD*

Anyway my computer

I have a Dell Dimension L700CXE
Running Windows XP, service pack 2

USB 2.0 PCI Cards I installed myself
111GB Hard Drive (actually 120 but the computer only says 111)

so on so on.

Anyway I've had this problem since I got the Kaser external hard drive. I installed the drives like normal everything worked just fine... The Kaser hard drive boots up fine.. and I try to send my files... about 95% of the time the blue LED light on the back of the drive freezes up and the drive stops doing anything and reboots on the system.
I just use the LED light for a reference because I can see it on my wall.. it's flashes constantly when transferring files correctly... then when it has a problem the light stops flashing and then the files transfer stops, says it can't be completed and such.

I have the same problem when getting files onto or off the Kaser Storage Vault.

At this point I'm just really really annoyed. Kaser never responds to emails about the drive with anything relevant to help me with.

Can anyone here think of anything that might be causing the problem.. or any way to fix it.

I cant afford a new pc yet, so i bought a hard drive usb caddy thing. it works a treat with my dvd writer, and with my other hard drive (200 gig Western Digital one, with partitions and windows on the drive), but this seagate one is being a bit more of a pain. the usb drive itself can handle upto 500 gig, and i have a usb 2.0 connection (so theres no compatibilty problems, and it works with the 200fine) also, i tried to put the hard drive in another pc as slave and it found it, but didnt bring it up in windows/my computer. its the same problem on my laptop, my usb caddy finds the drive, and the name, and says its connected, but doesent bring the drive up in any explorer windows etc...
im a bit worried now that the drive might be dead (i have LOADS of data on there that i really need 2 get my mitts on). when i go into hard drive management, the drive is found but has a yellow exclimation point next to it.
i was thinking it might need checkdisc being run on it, but i dont think it will find the drive when windows nexts boots up with it being a usb drive. im thinking of perhaps using knoppix to get into the drive to see if the data is still there etc... (but ive not used knoppix for well over a year and ive pretty much forgotten how to use it lol).
so any help would be greatly appreciated, i know it might be a strange error (or it might be common for all... Read more

I only know of TWO programs that do this... and until recently, I thought it impossible because of how deeply woven into the OS, file directory, and registry each software application was woven...

but now there's LapLink PCMover that will completely trnsfer all files AND installed software to a new system... even if its a different OS, impressive imo

I thought that it was the only one... until I realized that Acronis also has Acronis Migrate Easy which ALSO migrates installed software and program settings...

Does anyone know of any OTHER software capable of doing this? Its impressive imo... and worth way more than these companies are charging for it.

A:PC Migration Software (Including Application Migration)

Yes impressive.

Comodo Programs Manager monitors program installations and registry activity for uninstallations. I never thought about it before, but it does seem like that could fairly easily be converted to a similar type of feature for creating backups for programs, including their registry entries. Not so sure about moving the programs to a different OS part, though. I'd like to know what's in doing that...what exactly has to happen to move a program from XP to 7 (or 7 to XP?) or whatever.

I wouldn't be surprised if Comodo were to develop migration as part of their backup program. Just back up Documents and Settings and selected programs and their registry entries. Guess it wouldn't be free..

Hey everyone, slight problem here.

I just migrated from XP to 7 Pro (did a clean reformat though) but the thing is, I had my drive partitioned so I could do this without losing my near-terabyte of media. I know I didn't delete the content, but Win7 isn't mounting my storage partition and I don't know how to force it to recognize / mount it.

Any help is appreciated.

Ok, I have a "customer"-my friend-that lost the backlight in the computer screen so they bought a new computer. Now, I'm trying to migrate pictures from the old hard drive- a Fujitsu IDE hard drive model MHT2060AT. I hooked it up with via usb and tried to transfer files. When I go into the customers documents and settings, I already took over security for one folder to have access to see it but the information in it, word documents mainly, won't allow access to actually use them. It says that they are either in use or have full write-protection on them. I also can't access some of the other folders in the documents and settings ie- my pictures or my music and I can't seem to take those over either. I also tried to boot off of it, but it seems that the drive doesn't like doing that via USB. I did do a scan on it and it the drive says it's in proper working order. Any help?
Already booted my computer into safe mode and took over the full control and permissions of the folders and I still can't access them and it says i still do not have access to them

Hi all (new to the forum, BTW, and I like it!),

I have recently purchased Microsoft Accounting 2007 Pro. The program seems nice, so far, but, I am unable to get a good migration from Microsoft Money 2007 Premium. It does go through the migration, but 95% of the transactions aren't migrated as it does not like the dates used in Money 2007.

I have actually spoken to MS support and they are still looking into it. Strange, they advertise 'Easy migration from Microsoft Money", but, no such! They actually are aware of the problem but have no solution!

So, why am I posting here if I already contacted MS? Because I usually have more success with people on forums, and, I've already gone through 2+ weeks with MS - and I can't wait forever,

any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi, I want to buy a new hard drive for my desktop PC, and I was wondering if the western digital black 250GB hard drive or western digital enterprise 250GB hard drive would work better for such a PC. Both of the HDDs I mentioned are SATA, in case you're wondering.

Purchased a Samsung cd/rw SW-248 drive, after installing the hardware the drive was recognized by Windows XP Professional. Unfortunately, every time that I insert an audio cd or data cd, the drive will not read it whatsoever. Any suggestions? This is a brand new drive originally set as the slave drive, with the master being a 40x cd rom drive. I thought that it may have been a problem with jumpers so I set both of the drives to cable select. The 40x drive still works but the samsung cd/rw still doesn't read anything. I thought that it may be the IDE cable also but had a hp cd rw installed previously on it and it worked properly. Any suggestions about my new samsung cd/rw-248 drive would be appreciated. Thanks ~Jay Risk~

I have a samsung laptop, NP-QX410. It's about 3 years old now, and has for the most part worked great for those 3 years.

I'm extremely uneducated when it comes to computers, so you'll have to bare with me.
Beginning yesterday, the laptop just about locked up (When I say locked up, I mean went incredibly slow. I couldn't use the internet, couldn't open programs, things I had open would stop responding). I had been using it for about 2 hours prior, and nothing had happened to it to cause it to lock up (such as damage) and I hadn't downloaded any programs. Even trying to open the control panel with control alt delete was taking a long time. I decide to simply restart the laptop, but the problem still continues when it's turned back on.
It wasn't completely locked up though which was the weird part. It would have these "moments" where it would lock up, and go incredibly slow for about 5 minutes, then work perfectly normal for the next 5 minutes. Sometimes opening a webpage would cause one of these "lock ups" and then closing it would somehow fix it.
After looking around a bit, I've noticed a correlation where whenever the laptop goes into a phase where it goes incredibly slow, the disk activity shows "100% Highest Active Time". Then when it goes back to normal, the disk activity drops to anywhere from 0%-15% (where it probably should be). The CPU usage and physical memory usage are still fine and don&#... Read more

Hi guys,

Not really sure where to post this one.

I have a samsung R700 laptop which has caused me massive amounts of bother. Its 2 years old, and for the last 18 moths of its poor life has had numerous issues with the screen.

It flickers, and then blacks out. Basically.

I can still see the screen when I move the screen into the light, and if I hold the left hand side of the screen tightly, it doesnt go off (random I know).

Ive had if in 3 different repair shops, and forked out a small fortune on a new fan, a power port and various other things. The shop guys always hand it back in working order - but the screen fails again within a few weeks.

I need the screen to work for business now, so do I sell it, or has anyone any idea what my problem is?
If I do sell it, how much should I realistically be selling for, and wheres the best place to do so?

Any help would be gratefully recieved.

Thanks

Broken laptops are not worth much. Sounds like the inverter may be shot, or the cable to it is damaged.

I'm confused, you say it's a 2 years old and it hasn't work right in the last 18 months? It had a 1 year warranty, possibly even a 2 year warranty, why not have it repaired under the warranty by the manufacturer?

So I've had this monitor for a while, it's served me faithfully. I'm having a problem though, which seems to have started happening while playing World of Warcraft. I'm not entirely sure if it's related or what, but I do know it's an RTA problem.

When it's turned on I'm getting colors with red/yellow in them look like they're being seen through an old television, pixellated lines and blotchy.

When I turn it off, it's completely normal. Any ideas?

Sorry to hijack this thread.  I've been searching the web and this thread is the most help I've found so far.

I have a Samsung NP-QX411L (or I, cant really tell) that my wife gave me as a valentines gift when we were dating.  I say that to explain, I either do not have or cannot find whatever came with the computer including documents and discs.  She swears I have them somewhere, I swear she never gave them to me.

Couple days ago I got a notification to update Flash and I did.  It then prompted me to restart and I did.  Rather than reboot, it now gives me an error and asks me to insert the Windows disc that came with the computer.

I have tried downloading and booting from:

A Windows 7 Home x32 repair disc.  It booted from the disc but could not find an OS
A Windows 7 Home x64 repair disc.  It wouldnt even boot
A Windows 7 Home Premium x86 disc that I believe I was able to find and burn as a result of this thread (iso ending in 996).  It booted from the disc but could not find an OS.

I am now looking for a Home Premium x64 ISO and am going to try that.  If I cant find one or that doesnt work then I am out of ideas.

I need the computer for work by Saturday.

Any help is appreciated.

Just hooked up a new Samsung model 997DF 19" flat screen crt monitor. The color is faded badly . Installed the Magictune software that came with it, but it doesn't seem to do much. Is this just the way things are going to be, or can I resolve the problem? Bought this thing from Circuit City over the telephone, so returning it would be a real hassle. When I change the screen resolution the icons and text are very small and hard to see, so that isn't much of an alternative. Thanks!

A:Samsung CRT Monitor problems

I use a Samsung 915n 19" lcd. The colors are incredible. I doubt you have a defective monitor. Have you tried the normal adjust buttons on the front face of the monitor itself?

Changing resolution does require some minor adjustments to your icons and other preferences. That can be done in start>settings>control panel>display>appearance>"advanced" button. (or right click on an empty spot on your desktop, and click "properties") From that place you can change the sizes of any one of your items.

good luck
