comp going slow, crashing sometimes, here's a log

Q: comp going slow, crashing sometimes, here's a log

My friend says her computer is running really slowly. Here is an HJT log. She has a gig of ram so it seems like it shouldn't be running badly. I ran Ccleaner, spybot, deleted temp files, prefetch, did some basic cleaning up. But HJT is getting error messages, so i figured I'd post this first.

I got this error and another one when I ran the HJT. The other one I popped up twice but got replaced on the clipboard by this one it seems. After I ran it a second time the error did not pop up.
An unexpected error has occurred at procedure: modMain_CheckOther1Item()
Error #5 - Invalid procedure call or argument

Please email me at [email protected], reporting the following:
* What you were trying to fix when the error occurred, if applicable
* How you can reproduce the error
* A complete HijackThis scan log, if possible

Windows version: Windows NT 5.01.2600
MSIE version: 6.0.2900.2180
HijackThis version: 1.99.1

This message has been copied to your clipboard.
Click OK to continue the rest of the scan.

One other thing, when I dowloaded spybot, HJT, and ewido, her symmantec kept going crazy and alert warnings of adware.zango popping up on her symmantec av autoprotect. also I just keep getting backdoor.hackdefender. and it keeps coming back. but then I restarted the computer twice and it didn't come back again.

Preferred Solution: comp going slow, crashing sometimes, here's a log

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have been reading on different sites to download different anti-spyware programs. Right now I have:

1. Ad-aware
2. Spybot
3. IE Spyad w/ Zoned Out
4. PC pitstop driver alert
5. Spyware Blaster
6. ATF Cleaner
7. PC Pitstop Driver Alert
8. Hosts Xpert
9. Windows Defender

Will these slow down my system, or make it take longer to shut down and restart my comp? Is there anything on this list that I should not have? If it's not a big deal, does anyone recommend any more apps I should download or things to do to make my system better?

If I install almost all of the reputable spyware removers and system optimizers, etc. on my comp, will it slow down my system? Will there be any negative consequences?

Right now I would opt for a faster computer over a secure one, so I would prefer speed over an increased possibility of a virus, etc (still want an anti-virus though). I'd like my comp to shut down and restart quickly, but of course it's not that big of a deal.

With that in mind...I was wondering what the computer "gurus" think is the best way I can optimize my computer? If you have a lot of experience, then what would/do you do, and what do you download for your comp? What programs should I download or buy? I'm willing to pay money for programs that I can buy at the store or pay to activate full versions of trial software, etc. if it will help optimize my computer or help my computer's speed. Well dude.. i would just go with ad aware.. it wont really slow the comp down

somthing activly scanning such as norton avast etc.. will slow your comp down by taking resources... just go with a scanner like adaware that doesnt use resources..

EDIT: Norton sucks... seriously

A:Newbie questions. Will anti-spyware, etc. slow down comp? Best way to optimize comp?

As a rule, you use:
1 firewall
1 antivirus
* Norton is not the best program around, and it's a resource hog, but since you bought it, you'll have to live with it until it expires.
* Using more then one of each is asking for problems (conflict).
As for antispyware programs, you can have as many, as you want, however, I wouldn't use more then 2 as startups, since you want fast computer.
Your computer specs look very good, but the lower number of startups, the better (this is another thing to check).
As for antispyware, I'd keep Spyware Blaster as a startup program, and I'd add a-squared: http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/
You may want to run others, you have once in a while, or when any problem arises.

In addition, you want to keep your computer clean of garbage, and for that purpose, you want to get CCleaner: www.ccleaner.com

Once a month, you want to run defrag. I recommend free jkDefrag: http://www.kessels.com/JkDefrag/ instead of Windows defrag.

That's about it. If you have more questions, please, ask.

It all started when I fooled around with Regedit and played around with the memory management and page pool size settings etc. I've set it back to what it was before but that didnt seem to have done anything.

Im thinking it had something to do with that or perhaps memory if not overheating.

How can I pinpoint my problem more?

Any scanners I can download etc?

last week I started having random crash issues (when turning on comp after leaving it in sleep), it seemed to have a long pause when turning on, i would get a message that boot failed from BIOS, I would reset and it would start up the 2nd time with "windows did not shutdown properly" message, I also had other issues appear so I re-installed windows about a week back...well.. went to turn on comp tonight and nothing was happening for a while, then eventually it started with the "Windows did not shutdown properly" message... I left the computer in a sleep state last night, she used it this afternoon, she said she went too shutdown but it reported I was logged in so she walked away from it, so it should sleep after 10 minutes...

...anyway, when it started the avast service was running and set to automatic in the services menu...I had this service set too manual in both her and my account with the tray icon set not too load either - basically I dont have it running but I have it installed so i can load it when I want with my ON/OFF scripts... the event viewer doesnt say anything other than shutdown at 4pm ish was unexpected... personally I think its shutdown illegally for some reason, but when booting immediately after one of these "crashes" it crashes again...th... Hello, not sure if this is a hardware problem or a software problem. But my brother's computer is crashes spontaneously, usually when he either runs a game or is using internet explorer(tho one time he left his computer on and left the room and came back and it was off, then he got an error message and we had to use the recovery console to fix it). Anyways, it works now, thought highly doubt it will stop from crashing again unless I do something. What steps would I take to ensure that it won't do that?

He's got windows xp home and avg free virus protector, windows defender, and I have ran the defrager, disc cleanup, scan disk, and scanned with windows defender and the avg free. Is there any other measures I can take to maybe fix an internal system error that keeps crashing his computer? or do you think its his ram cards(running dual 1 gig sticks, so 2 gigs total) or processor that's doing this?

Any help would be great. Thankyou and sorry if I posted this in the wrong category.

We would have no way of diagnosing the problem unless we have the error codes.

Do you receive a blue screen when it crashes?

Navigate to C:/Windows/minidump. If there any files there - zip them up and upload to your post.

How to find and post your Minidump Files:

My Computer > C Drive > Windows Folder > Minidump Folder > Minidump Files.

It is these files that we need (not the folder). Attach to your next post the five most recent dumps. Notice the Manage Attachments button at the bottom when you go to post the next time. You can Zip up to five files per Zip; if you only have one or two you don?t need to zip them, just attach as is. Please do us a favor and don?t Zip each one individually.

Hi guys,

For some reason my comp is crashing after about 2 minutes of being switched on. Very frustrating!! I have done a housecall scan which showed up a few things but would not delete one specific infection. I will try and get the name of it for you.

In the meantime I have a HJT log just in case there is anything on there. By the way, I did the log whilst in safe mode but will reboot and do another one for normal Windows.

Thanks in advance...

Please help, my computer crashes randomly, when i say freezing, i mean the screen turns blue and it makes the computer restart, where i have the option of starting windows normally or in safe mode or save mode with networking. I chose safe mode with networking and things have been working ok like this, Its not when i open any specific program, it can happen as soon as my computer starts up or after my comp been working for a while. Also, since this started happening, my internet expolorer doesnt work anymore, it will usually say that internet exploror has stopped working and windows is checking for a solution, which it never finds, and it shuts it down. i have to use google chrome to get on the internet. I dont know anything about computers, i tried to restore it to an earlier date but it wont let me do that and everytime i turn on my computer the normal way (im in safe mode now) an error sign from norton comes up saying 5013,3 is wrong with it and how to fix it, but that didnt work either. Someone please help me, i have no idea how to fix this and this seems like a good website filled with people who know what they are doing. Oh, so everyone knows, i am computer illiterate. Whenever he is playing a game for about 5 minutes, his screen gets all purpley, watery, or how to explain (Pics are linked below for better understanding)

It gets watery for about a minute, then the computer shuts down. After rebooting his graphics are to hell, which you can see on the pics below. Its got even worse now, when he starts the PC it looks like below, and its unchangable, which is.. Bad. Its probably a hardware problem, but which? :O

Havent got a slighest idea what to do, all help is appreciated.

May be a bad graphics driver or the graphics card has developed a fault.
Try downloading the latest graphics driver from the PC or motherboard manufacturer's website if it's an integrated graphics device, or download from the device manufacturer's website if it's a separate PCI or AGP graphics card.

PSU- Apevia 680W(old PSU) and Corsair CX750M(new PSU)
GPU- Radeon 6750HD(old GPU) and GeForce GTX 650TI(new GPU)
MOBO- Asus Evo AXT (about 4 years old)
RAM- 2x4GB dual-channel 1600hz corsair
My issues started when I decided to upgrade my GPU to the GeForce 650TI. I got it, plugged it in and all that goodness, but my games kept crashing. At first, my PC would say that the drivers were crashing. I, being stupid, decided to keep the card and fight through it until the drivers were updated and would be more stable. The crashes didn't stop, however. Then came the BSOD. It's constant and unpredictable. The only time it happens is when I'm gaming, but it can happen once every 5 hours or once every 20 minuets (lately, more frequently). So, I finally was able to afford a new PSU today, as everything I've read said that MUST be the problem. It didn't do anything whatsoever. SO, with the new PSU and new GPU in, I decided to put my old GPU in and see what happened. Logically, taking steps to make sure none of the drivers were overlapping, ect. I assumed it would work. Nope. New PSU and old GPU, still constantly getting blue screens, even at low video settings in the game. I'm not running other programs or background operations. No antivirus, ect. I've been into my BIOS to look at my 12v fluctuation and on the old PSU it's between 11.76 and 12.03 and on the new one it's between 11.97... Read more

hey guys, im having a problem with my comp and ive tried a lot to fix it but have had no luck, this is whats happening..

First, when I boot the computer, sometimes it just doesnt boot. The fan turns on, the hdd spins but nothing happens.

Then recently, i've been getting crashes. I can usually run fine for a few hours, then it crashes. No bsod, it just freezes. Then the same problem(comp wont turn on) I listed above happens, if I try like 50x in a row, eventually it'll work and windows will start.

If I leave the computer off for like 30 minutes, it will boot everytime, but even if the comp has been on for 10 minutes, i'll have to leave the computer off for like 30min before it will boot up again

Some things ive tried to fix it:

format, blow fan on inside, re-seat cards and check connectors, all no luck

I went to another help site and ran all the scans THEY said to run including adaware se. Afterwards I restarted my comp and there were still pop ups on my system and spyware. I ran mic anti spyware and it seemed to have removed them. I've just signed up to this forum and would really want some help regarding my computer which keeps crashing, i'm an intermediate comp user but i don't know much about troubleshooting errors.
I found another post somewhere in this forum where some guy seemed to be having a similar error, and had been asked for some infos so i just wrote down what it said on the blue crash screen.

After a bit of stuff saying what u should do if this is the first time u've seen this screen there's some technical info as follows - *** STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x32354632, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x32354632).

Just below that there is a counter which is changing according to the percentage of physical which has so far been dumped onto the disk.

I'm pretty sure that i need to show a little bit more info that just this, but i don't know what is needed, plz don't mind to ask for any more infos to do with this problem.

Sorry about not being able to have any info on when it started to happen or after what change it started to happen, i just install and update software and drivers on my comp quite often, usually when there is a newer version.
But if i remember correctly i think it started to happen after i updated a few drivers.

If i need to display my comps stats i wouldn't mind doing so, just i cbs unless it's really needed.

k, i built a new comp about 4 months ago and since i built it ive had crashing problems. At first it would crash like every 10th time i tried to open world of warcraft and that was it. Reformatted tried various things and it never stopped. As of 2 weeks ago it crashed randomely during everyday things including gaming. sometimes it will crash right after the windows loading screen and i have to boot up in safe mode and restart for me to be able to log in. Im running an asus a8n-sli deluxe board with a 3700 san diego cpu, 1 gig corsairs xms ram, pci 6600gt evga.i have tried everything in my power to get rid of this and i am stuck. It is not a heating problem and when windows boots up i get these 2 errors.

any help would be much appreciated.

With my laptop, It seems to crash and stops responding after a while. I think my computer has a small bug but I cant run any scans because the laptop crash's. Even if its left on then after some time the laptop will slow downs its response time with opening something as small as a txt file and the mouse will stop responding and then just move slow.

Programs I have:
Windows Vista (Basic)
Kaspersky Anti Virus,
Spybot Search & Destory,

When i run them they just stop responding as does the laptop. Is it a security issue or is there something I can do?
The memory usage seems to be a bit high as this image shows.

I do have 1.5GB RAM

Help Please?

hi everyone,

whenever i play a game on my computer after a while it crashes saying (gamename).exe has encountered an error and must be closed, i have no idea what this is. I'm not even sure what to check for, or what info to give but basically every game i run crashes after a while. Eq2 can take hours to crash, but as soon as i hit the "stress test" option on countstrike source it does this.

My video card is nvidia geforce 6600
2 gigs of ram
windows xp athlon 3.2

When it crashed last with EQ2 it said it would include a file frmo my temp folder called 6191appcompat.exe. If thats relevent tell me and ill get more info on it.

Tell me what info you need i'll check back tomorrow.

I've recently got a Packard Bell IXTREME X6618 UK
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8200 @2.34 GHZ
Memory : 4.00 GB
System Type: 64-bit.

I've only had the computer for around about 4 months.
So it's fairly new. In the past week-2 weeks. The PC has been turning itself off randomly at any time. It only seems to switch itself off when i run a gaming program like : L4D or CSS etc.
I only last about 5-10 mins in the games until it usually turns itself off and doesn't restart.
I've run scanners and nothing is in my computer.
It has increasingly become to frustrate me as i just want to game with my friends online without having any issues.

I have to say that sometimes it runs perfectly fine for an hour or two then turns itself off, but that's only rare.
I've un-installed norton/symantec off the pc as it came out of the certain amount of months i had to use it period and i know it can cause problems.

I don't know what else could be going wrong. I have moved the computer about a few times but i've never hit it or moved it about harshly for anything inside to go wrong.

I hope to hear back asap. Thank you for your support and time.

Edit: I am also wondering if it has anything to do with my Windows Vista. I am not entirely sure of the problem, so i posted in this thread for the meantime.

hi and welcome to TSF when you removed norton did you run the norton removal tool available from norton site if not please run it as it windows uninstall does not always remove all of norton.

When I start up Counter Strike: Source, It sometimes makes my monitor screen go black other than a light blue box with a white border, which says "No Signal Input Check Video Cable". I did the obvious thing, checked my video cable, nothing changed, same thing happened. My friend fooled around with it, fixed it . 2 Months later (now) the same thing happened , i checked the video cable, nothing, i asked my friend again, nothing. This doesn't always go to a black screen at the main menu, but when playing the game . Is this due to my video card? Or something else? Should i re-install the drivers? My video card is a Nvidia 9500 GT (got it for christmas in 08)
When the screen goes black, the sound still is there, although it repeats the sound my computer does not turn off either.

Thanks for the help

A:Problems With CS:S Crashing Comp

my geforce 9600 gt does that.

Solution is to put the game in low setting when it comes to graphics. Fixes my problem. I think the card most be working too hard causing it too overheat.

recently (like within the past few days) my comp has been crashing constantly, not with the usual stuttering followed by the blue screen of death, but just straight up shutting down suddenly, the computer itself turns off, then reboots itself a few seconds later

my computer had been crashing a lot the "normal" way awhile back, but i was pretty sure it was due to a rootkit virus, and i was able to fix that, it hadn't crashed in months, and now this started

I'm posting this from my brothers laptop because my comp crashes so often that i wouldn't have time to post this from my computer

i am desperate for help and i don't really know what to do or where to go, please let me know if you need any more information and i'll do my best to provide it

A:Comp crashing constantly, never seen this before

Lets see if there are any recent dump files> Follow the instructions here> http://www.techsupportforum.com/foru...ta-452654.html
Lets see if the BSOD dump file(s) can tell us whats going on.

Then lets have a look at the temps and voltages >
D/L and run Hardware Monitor do something intense like a virus scan or gaming for a bit, Alt+Tab back to HWM expand all the trees and use the Win7 snipping tool to grab a screen shot of the HWM window, post the screen shot using the paperclip button in the advanced message box(Go Advanced button).

Hello, I Just bought a video card a Asus GeForce N6600 and when i start a game my computer just crashes (Games are from Steam like Counterstrike and DoD).The temperature of the card is around 32 degreese and the ram temperature it says is 29 degreese.

A:Comp Crashing Cause of Video Card?!?

Hello and welcome to techspot!

Have you already ruled out the simple stuff?

1. Updated to the latest drivers for the 6600
2. Updated your motherboard's AGP/chipset drivers
3. If 1 and 2 didn't fix you up, check how old your current bios is, and consider updating it.

When's the last time you cleaned out your case? CPU and video fans and PSU fans get glogged with dust and your system overheats.

Hey everyone, Quite recently i purchased a Gigabyte Nvidia Geforce 560ti Graphics card.

I'm not quite sure whats going on, and before i go spending money i'd like to get some other peoples opinions as people i've asked are not to sure.

My computer specs are:
(not completely sure on the motherboard but its Asus.)
4gbs of ram
Intel i5 2500
Gigabyte GTX560ti
western digital harddrive.
And a 550wat generic powersupply

Sorry if those a vague, its very late, and i've been trying to work out what the issue is.

I hadn't occured these crashes before upgrading to the 560ti.
My prior card was the nvidia 210. (not the gtx) it was a heatsink model if that helps

With the crashes what happens is i'll be playing a game, such as skyrim, or even dungeon defenders, and after about 10 minutes my computer shuts off as if it lost power, and instantly reboots, without me touching it. could it be an issue with my power supply?

i've monitered the heat of the card and it seems to max around 60-65 degrees celcius. if any body could help it would be appreciated.
