I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I am trying to Update the Intel ME Firmware as offered at http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/de/de/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x...But it seems that the files linked still contain FW Version 7.1.86.1221 and not 7.1.91.3272 (same for the readme) and thus not the fix. Do i miss something?

Hello, Lenovo Community, I recently tried updating my battery's firmware. It was going smoothly for about one minute until my charger disconnected and my laptop's battery died and will not charge. My charger has a long history of automatically disconnecting (two blinking lights, one white and one orange) so I cannot power my laptop through the charger itself. I really don't want to get the port checked, so I am looking to see if there are any other ideas from the community.  Here is what's happening:-My charger disconnects everytime I try to boot now (used to disconnect before loading Windows 10)-My battery is disconnected from the system (electronically, not physically probably)-I really cannot power on the system.  Thank you, Lenovo Community! [UPDATE] I'm (99%) going to replace the DC power jack! Any ideas about how to get the battery connected again?

I am dual booting Windows 10 and Linux (Ubuntu 17.10). I was on Windows 10 when I was updating my battery firmware using the Lenovo Battery Firmware Update Tool. It prompted me to update my battery and I confirmed and clicked next. Immediately, my screen turned black. I waited 10 minutes and then did a force shutdown on the computer by holding the power button. Now my battery won't charge. It is an official 55+ Lenovo battery and last week Ubuntu's acpi said that the battery was at 67% capacity and could run on battery for an hour and a half at full charge. Now all of a sudden, after the failed firmware update, my battery will not charge: whether the laptop is on in Windows 10, on in Ubuntu, or while the computer is turned off and plugged. When I do connect the AC cord the battery indicator blinks with a steady green, to a stready orange, to a rapid orange, and then off within a span of ~10 seconds. I have tried deleting the battery drivers on Windows and restarting and it does not work. I have also tried to update the battery firmware again using the Lenovo Update Firmware Tool but it repeatedly gives me the same error "The tool was unable to update the battery firmware due to an internal error." I have also updated to the latest BIOS to no avail.

Hello! I have an x250 notebook.Capacity of my internal battery flows down. Some time i opened lenovo power manager and checked battery. Internal battery is full charged with 12,18V, but external battery is full charged with 12.68V.It is very strange for me. As i know there is no li-ion battery with <4.2V full charge.I recalibrated the battery, no changes.Ok, It is possible that one li-ion battery has lower voltage then other two ones. I checked the voltage - 4.07. 4.07, 4.05 it is great result!Batteries are not charged fully, so capacity is lower then it should be. I found battery FW update for some lenovo notebooks, but i didn't find it for x250.Can you help me?

Hi all,

So, people, do not use this app if everything is fine. Application is not stable.

Operating System: Windows 10.
Power Management Driver: 1.67.11.8 -Latest
Battery Firmware Update Utility: 1.15 -Latest

Seems like internal battery memory was corrupted due to flashing interruption.
I assumed the root cause is internal software error.

I've tried the same on Windows 7/8/XP with all LnvBFU revisions (from v1.2 till v1.15) without any success.

But LnvBFU.exe still recognizes the battery, it still able to start flashing.
And I still have hope to install battery software correctly.

Dear Lenovo experts:
1. Please provide steps to correct this error.
2. Please advise how can I get logs of LnvBFU to figure out what's wrong.
3. Please fix this issue in the next LnvBFU revision.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I have a comparable problem over here. Got a brand new Lenovo Yoga 260 three weeks ago, worked completely fine until last wednesday. Processed some lenovo updates including Lenovo Solution Centre and Power Management and now my battery is dead. Everytime i turn on my Yoga 260 i get a battery error message after a few minutes that says the battery is not charging and it should be replaced due to a bad condition. When i open up Lenovo Settings and search for energymanagement it displays the same message telling me the battery is defect due to normal wear and it should be replaced. My problem is that the battery worked completely fine until the moment i installed some Lenovo software updates. I hope lenovo support can provide steps to correct this error instead of forcing me to return it and wait 2 -3 weeks. Thanks in advance.

Get a messagebox saying "battery not detected" and it's not charging from mains. So laptop has now turned into a desktop... as needs plugging in continually... making it almost useless for purpose. This happened exactly after firmware update a few weeks ago. By coincidence the management software also kindly informed me that it could manage the battery better and stop it wearing out by only charging up to 90% - fair enough, but don't treat me like a muppet and disable it without any way to get it back. Tons of Windows 10 updates today (after not being able to use it for a few weeks) but still no battery. I tried F1 BIOS but nothing there to enable the battery (only to disable it). This is frankly a joke - timing shows it's due to the firmware update because the battery was fine and lasted a couple of hours right before. In 25 years of countless laptops, have never had this problem - batteries weaken gradually but don't suddenly lock up and require a paid replacement suddenly. How do we run down our original battery properly before polluting the planet? Phil

Hello MadsWilliam, welcome to the Community,

Exactly which systems are you seeing this on please, the 20DA and which other types please? Could you also check the manufacture dates on a couple of examples in case they may be newer than the firmware updater and therefore not recognized by it and also, it would be helpful, if you could let us know the BIOS version from an example of each MT which is presenting you with the error please?

Hello Lenovo Community!I own an Ideappad Z400 Touch and I had issues with trying to charge it. Obviously I turned to the forums here and I found a possible solution here. When I tried to perform a battery firmware update, it went smoothly and then suddenly turned off and had a fast flashing orange light. Obviously I knew my battery and/or charger let me down in the middle of the process. I'm kind of scared because I don't know what to do nor have the money to afford a new laptop. What most likely happened to the battery is that it got "electronically disconnected" and technically only relies on the AC adapter which now I have found out is pretty screwed up and stops charging once Windows actually boots up. Is there any way to fix this? Please help! Thank you and have a wonderful evening!

I can't charge my laptop. Luckely I am at 75%, so I have about 3-4 hours to fix this before I'm forced to take it to service. I tried this solution: https://www.gfisk.com/lenovo-yoga-pd-firmware-update-failure-ccg4-two-port-usb-c-controller/but it doesn't work for me. I'm getting desperate I'm supposed to press the power button for 8 seconds and the powering should be back on, but for me the lap top goes off after 3 seconds of holding the power button. I keep pressing the button of course to see what happens. But, when I turn back on, the battery still won't charge. And the firmware update keeps failing. I tried everything according to instructions, but with no avail. Please help! My laptop is off now, so I will wait for solutions here before I turn it back on.

Is there any real difference between a 29+ and a 44+ battery when used in an x220 laptop??

Solved!

Go to Solution.

A:X220 battery question

'afternoon.

no difference in usage or performance.
the 44 is the X230 battery, that also works in the X220. it's got an extra chip in it that the x230 uses to allow charging.
the 29 is the X220 battery, that will power the X230, but will not recharge in the X230, because it lacks the chip.

my X220 came with the 29+ 6-cell. i ordered a 4-cell from the Lenovo store and received the 44. works perfectly.

Hi forumi have had my X220 for many years, and i have always been very happy with it.  Not using it so much right now, but it is still important to me.After i updated to Windows 10, i noticed that the battery life was getting shorter - and the battery is even drained when the X220 is not used.  My 6 and 9 cell batteries did the same, so i thought that it was because they are old (5-6 years i guess).  Therefore i bought a new 6 cell battery ...... but unfortunately it behave in exactly the same way.  When fully charged and used for max 20 minuttes pr. day, after 3 days the battery is 'flat'.Does anyone have any idea what to do?Best regardsHenrik - Denmark

I just bought a new 9 cell battery in my ThinkPad X220 to replace the previous 6y old one.The battery is genuine Lenovo, from a reputable trader, FRU 45N1029, manufactured 2017.02. Exactly the same as the previous, except it is 44++ instead of 29++ (this is about the authentication chip afaik, but this should not be problem at X220).After replacing the battery and connecting the AC adapter the battery led blinks 3x green acknowledging the connection, after blinks slowly 11x orange, then 3x fast orange, and 1x fast green. Then it remains off. If I start the computer it says battery is in unknown state (not known whether it's charging or discharging) and is at 0%. Also other parameters like manufacturer, cycle count, etc can not be queried. This did not change with operating the computer for an hour. Then I turned off and let it with AC connected overnight. Nothing changed. Of course I also examined the connection, the battery is in place and should be electrically connected. Testing with the old battery charging and everything else looks normal. See `tlp-stat -b` outputs below the post.Do you know the led blink codes detailed above what do they mean?Do you have any idea to explain this behaviour? Is there anything special about installation of this battery? May it be faulty and if so what could be the problem? Old battery, `tlp-stat -b` output: +++ ThinkPad Battery Features

Hello All! Hoping someone can help with a strange issue. Very recently my x220 started intermittently "losing" the battery. Here are the characteristics of the issue: - Sometimes the machine will boot, and I will see the battery status detected, charge percentage, etc. After a few minutes, however, the x220t status will simply change to "battery not detected." When this happens, I can unplug the laptop from AC power and it will run perfectly off the battery, albeit with no indication of charge level.- Other times I'll get the "no battery detected" issue right away upon booting. Again, the laptop will still run on battery power when unplugged.- Most of the time when I try to boot on battery power, I'll get a "critical low battery" warning and the machine will not boot at all. However, if I plug in AC power, it will boot, and if the battery has a charge, it will again run on battery power (while still saying "battery not detected").- On occasion, allowing the battery to drain completely and then rebooting on AC power will cause the computer to detect the battery again, although most of the time it will "lose" the battery again. I am currently running the most recent version of Kubuntu as the only OS, however I recently had Win10 on there as well, and windows did not detect the battery at all, despite attempts to uninstall and reinstall drivers, update firmware, etc.  It is an original Lenovo battery, although I recently did purchase an aftermarket batte... Hello I am using ThinkPad X220 with 9-cell battery (FRU P/N 42T4940)Yesterday, I update my system with Lenovo system Update, and the battery firmware update is the only important updates that I (try) to install. Long story short, when the program said that the sytem will automatically shuts down after the firmware update is complete, I clicked next to start the upgrade. Suddenly my system shut down right after the firmware upgrade started and when I turn it on again, it said that the firmware upgrade was failed and I need to turn my computer off. After I turn my computer on, the Power Manager said that my battery canot be charged because of poor condition from normal wear (my battery still can hold more than 85% of charge, more specifically 87%).I even tried to update it again using Windows 7 but no luck. From that on, I cannot charge my battery despite any ways that I tried (reset power gauge, take off the battery while the system turned on and charge it when it turned off, etc) Is there any solution for my problems?Anyway I am using the latest version of BIOS available (1.42 - EC 1.24)I am using UEFI booting with GRUB as main bootloader (Windows 10 and Debian 8.0) but when using Windows 7 I am using the legacy booting with GRUB as main bootloader

It may be that the battery is just failing.  There is a lot more to battery health than how much charge the cells can take,  If yours is the original battery for the machine, it has been used for a normal life.  The service manual for your machine https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/0a60739_04.pdf

shows the procedure for checking the battery with a meter on page 34, but there are orter types of failure that won't show up.

A battery firmware popped up to download. I downloaded it but it could not finish and restarted my computer. Now, it is indicating that I do not have a battery though I clearly do. What can I do to fix this?

I cannot turn on the laptop with the A/C adapter plugged in both with and without the battery.  It seems the battery will not charge (no indication of battery status). Upon plugging in the A/C adapter, the battery light blinks in the following pattern: 3 short1 long1 short Any ideas?

What year did you purchase your X220? I bought units around OCT-DEC 2011, turned out 4 of the 10 I purchased had bad motherboards and had similar symptoms. Blinking power light though, no screen output.  Does your power light blink also? I would check with Lenovo support to see if your laptop is still under warranty.
