netscape 7.2: "sent" folder empty/lost, also another folder the same

Q: netscape 7.2: "sent" folder empty/lost, also another folder the same

Hi,

I had upgraded from communicator/netscape 4.7x to netscape 7.2 several months back. All was fine till tuesday 7/5/2005 I log in and noticed my sent folder was empty, also another work related folder is empty:

I'm not sure how to do a screen shot here so:

Sent 2KB File 7/5/2005 1:38pm

Sent.msf 2KB MSF File 7/5/2005 10:57 pm

Sent.snm 3,280 KB SNM File 1/12/2005 3:22 PM

similarly another folder:

csgfld MISSING not there!
csgfld.msf 2846kb msf file 7/1/2005 5:24 pm
csgfld.snm 4848kb snm file 1/12/2005 9:13pm
My Sent folder from my 6/9/2005 backup is a 65M+ file with thousands of messages

My csgfld folder from my 6/9/2005 backup is a 99M + file with thousands of messages

I saw that my disk space was almost gone when i noticed these folders were "empty". Please advise.

Did i hit a netscape bug?
Did i hit an upper limit to folder size in terms of messages/Megabytes?
Did netscape zero out these files since I did not have diskspace instead of just warning me?

Am i stuck with losing 3 weeks worth of email in my sent and csgfld folder?

Thanks for your help in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Please read completely before responding.
I am a 30 year IT pro, most of it as a programmer. I am the geek in charge of a tech non profit org in Hawaii. www.HawaiianHope.org
so yea.. i have at least half a clue.

Here is the deal.
In doing drive copies, data recoveries, etc... when we are moving a mass amount of data from one drive to another we run into this problem a lot.
"Error moving file or folder" -- "directory is not empty"
If you restart the move, it will continue on and keep going, restart enough times and eventually it will move all directories.

I think its a programming issue with windows and wonder if anyone has a work around ?

I have a suspicion that the copy process is getting out of sequence. That it is trying to move a folder before it actually emptied it. Possibilities are :
1) windows forgot its place in moving through and navigating numerous sub directories and it is having a problem with “recursive calls.”
2) Computers with hyper threading or dual core processors are spawning the movement of files across multiple processes, and some are getting ahead of the other.
3) It did actually move the file, but the cache or something in memory has not updated, or the full data write has not completed yet before it tried to move the directory. (delayed write)
Yes, you can copy and then delete the old... Read more

A:"Error moving file or folder" -- "directory is not empty"

This is a known issue. It is by design.

As you may know, moving is in its essence an unsafe process. It would be better to use the actual sequence of copy and then delete.

I am running windows xp (w/SP2) and have run into a problem at work and at home... I have trash in my recycle bin, but when I open (double click) on it, there is nothing there, and when I attempt to empty it (right click, empty) it tells me "Cannot remove folder New Folder: Directory is not empty".

I have searched google and these forums and can't seem to find any answers. Perhaps I missed it and someone can either answer or point me in the right direction?

I have a home network of five computers where one acts as a common computer ("server") where most data from the other four computers is stored (music, pictures, word processing, movies, etc). All five are running XP Pro SP2.

The "server" had two 80GB hard drives, but SMART was indicating that one was failing, so I replaced it with a 200GB drive. Now, every computer in the house can access the 80GB drive and all of its files but none of the computers in the house (except the "server") can access the new hard drive. I have the file sharing set to full access, and I can view the file folders that are on the drive from the networked computers, they are all listed. But when I click on a folder, I get "Access is Denied." When I mouse over a folder, it reads, "Folder is Empty"

But the folder isn't empty though when accessed from the local computer, only when trying to access it over the network.

I have turned off the Windows Firewall, turned it on again, off again, etc, no change. I have Zone Alarm on all the computers, turned it off, still no change.

Any ideas??? I have over 500 CDs on that harddrive, and I want to listen to music from my other comuters! I'm going nuts here.

A:"Access Denied", "Folder Empty" messages

There are two ways that might work.

1. From a computer other than the server right-click "My Computer" and choose "Map Network Drive". Where is says "Folder" type "\\<ip address>\C$" if you want to share the C partition of that drive (don't type the quotes).
2.
Go to My Computer and and click on the Tools Menu and then Folder Options.

Click the view tab.
Scroll all the way down until you see "Use simple file sharing (Recommended)" and uncheck it.
Click OK.

Now right-click the drive you want to share and choose "Sharing and Security".
Click the security tab.
Click "add" and add "Everyone".
Give "Everyone" the rights you want them to have "Read only" or whatever you want.

I am getting an "Access is Denied" error message on a hard drive that I am trying to recover files from that is from my HP Pavilion with Windows XP that fried. My hard drive is still good, and I am trying to rescue the files in the "Documents and Settings/Owner" folder. I have connected the hard drive to my laptop, which also has XP; but when I try to open the "Owner" folder in "My Documents", it tells me that "Access is Denied." And when I hover over the folder, it says "Folder is Empty." But it is not empty. I can also access everything else on the drive fine -- just not this folder. I suspect that this is a networking type of issue, but I am not sure how to resolve it. Can someone please help me?

Hello,
I am getting the following error when moving files on the same drive or from one to another:

"Error Moving File or Folder
Cannot remove folder (insert folder name here): The directory is not empty."

This is fairly common (once or twice a month) and it occurs usually with folders containing many subfolders when being moved by explorer gui "Move the selected items", or ctrl-x, ctrl-v . Repeated attempts through the same process seems to move the folders, but the errors increase as the concentration of stubborn folders increases.

There are no event viewer logs corresponding to these errors. (eventvwr.msc: system, or application)

I would have thought this would be a common problem, but extensive searches came up with nothing... so either it is rare, untroubling to others, extremely easy to fix, or my search queries suck. =)
I am going to run Checkdisk to make sure all is well there, and I will repost the likely failure.

A:"Error moving file or folder" "directory is not empty" one file left

Occasionally when I am deleting a file, it is difficult, I have to go through process explorer, search for the thread that is strangely(?) associated with that file in explorer (no reasonable dependencies could be linked, nor is the file being viewed), and kill the thread before deletion.

any thoughts?

Thanks =)

I'm Running Windows 7 64 bit, Home Premium, fully updated.

On my laptop (64 bit Windows 7), "Recent Items" works properly, showing all docs I've opened only (no folders, as it should be). The taskbar Jumplists for each program also show recent docs opened in that program.

The "Recent Places" folder, however, is always empty, nor do recent folders show on the Jumplists for folders.

Searching has turned up nothing useful, but tells me I'm not the only one with this issue.

What I've tried already:sfc /scannow
making sure both the "Store and display" options in Taskbar and Start Menu Properties are checked.
making sure the reg key HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\Recent points to the correct folder (%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent Items) and that the folder itself is actually named "Recent Items" and not just "Recent"
running a disk scan
Safe mode
Essentially, it seems that documents opened are recorded but not folders. I'm stumped at this point. Anyone know what's up with this?

Hello there, my first post here
When i'm trying to save something from my browser to a desktop, i should see a "desktop" shortcut, but it only shows "favourites" icon, which is empty(also i cannot expand it). Favourites are also missing just when navigating on windows folders, not just when saving something from web.

I've had this problem for a while, tried to figure out what's wrong, follow many tutorials from this website, but nothing helped. I've added a new string value IsShortcut to a registry, which was missing, restored a Favourites folder location (which was fine by the way). Don't know if it is related, but it feels like the windows copy which i've installed is kinda strange, because other thing which is not working on it, is screen brighntess, i have all the buttons, but i cannot change it in any way, tried everything
Please advise me what's wrong. Here's how everything looks on my laptop:

I hope I figure out W7 soon...

I upgraded my wife's office to twp HP W7 systems this past fall, wireless networked through belkin router. Old files used to be on wife's PC now in folder called "H Docs (old PC)" in her public folder. Shared to everybody. This was working up to yesterday.

Today, on the second PC, her associate opened a folder nested in the main "H Docs (old PC)" folder. Everything appeared to be there. She needed to get a phone number from another file located somewhere else, so she closed the folder while she got it. Came back to the folder - opened it - "this folder appears to be empty" or like that. Closed the folder and opened another - also empty. Back a couple of folders out, selects another folder, opens it and every thing's there. Closed completely out, rebooted - the same. Calls me in.

I go through much the same, checking paths, checking whether access has been changed - can't find a reason for this. Checked the folder on wife's PC to be sure there's anything there to share - it's all there, thank goodness.

I'm not at her office now, so can't answer much more about exact conditions, but would appreciate a nudge in the right direction. We're not using "home group" for this. On the left side of the explorer window, I go to network and chase down the path to the folder. If I logon with my admin account, I got an access denied once, got through to the folders in q... Hi,

I have several icons/files from my "User" folder showing up in the "Computer" folder (several in duplicate), PLUS numerous blank icons...

This seems to have occurred after the Common Files folder became corrupted, after I somewhat riskily decided to power off while Vista was attempting to come out of Sleep mode - it had already taken about 3 mins and I was in a hurry - bad move, I know. That delay appears to have been due to an old version of Online Armor, and has now been fixed (by an update). Chkdsk scanned and (apparently) corrected some errors, and I also ran SFC which said it had corrected some errors but had also found some that it couldn't correct. Any help much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello Aster, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You might see if doing a system restore using a restore point dated before this happened may be able to fix it.

Hope this helps,

If anyone has been using Netscape 7, perhaps you have come accross this problem.

I recently discovered that my sent messages were not going into my "Sent" folder, although they were being received by the addressees.

I went to account settings and brought up the "Copies and folders" dialog for the account. No account was specified for placing a copy in the "sent" folder. I updated to the desired settings and clicked on OK. My changes were ignored! Repeatedly, after making changes the settings reverted back to the setting with no account specified.

Netscape could not offer an explanation for this irregularity.

Frusterated, I deleted the account and and added it anew after having saved my address book and folders. I manually copied the address book and folders to the newly created account. All now seems to be working well.

Is this problem unique or has anyone else had the experience?

Hi,

The problem started about a week ago when suddenly an empty "Logs" folder was created on my Desktop. I didn't think much of it and deleted it but then it happened again repeatedly since then. I can't find out why this is happening and what is causing it, did a Full Scan with KIS 2015 many times and Malwarebytes to no avail. I also did AdwCleaner and that didn't find anything. The folder is an empty folder named "Logs". That's it. Just a folder.

The folder seems to be created on a specific time (today's was created on exact 11PM and again at 1.25AM, 2.5 hours after the first one). I wish I could find a way to see which program created what folder, if that is possible then please help.

These problems developed recently:
When try to empty deleted items folder, I get a message that outlook.pst is in use by another application. Close any application that is using this file and try again. Well, there is no other application using that file. Apparently, there is one email in the deleted items folder that is plugging up the folder. I can open the deleted items folder, right click on emails in there and delete them, but one email, which had an attachment from a web site does not respond. Right clicking on that email won't even bring up a menu.
The other error message I get is if I go to inbox or tasks and use find to search for a word, I get a message " The message interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook." Restarting Outlook doesn't help. The things I have tried without success are 1) removed & reinstalled Outlook, 2) ran search & repair,3) ran scanpst.exe against outlook.pst, and 4) tried to empty and find in safe mode.

as the title says, I'm getting this problem since like 2 days ago. I'm trying to open my Music folder on my desktop or my whole D drive (with tons of items on it like game installations, music, pictures etc.) but the window that opens is empty and writes in it "This folder is empty". The address bar keeps loading and if I leave it loading (green bar filling), it stops right before the end and the window freezes. When I then click on the window a few times, the whole explorer.exe crashes and restarts, closing the window...

It's driving me crazy as I can't acces the documents on my D drive. When I search for anything on the drive, it finds it and I can use it (pictures open, songs play). So the files are actually there but just aren't loading. I've made sure that the files are not hidden and I've already scanned for malware.

What could be the problem? I'm getting desperate here!

Thanks!

Could have a failing drive. Back up everything you can ASAP off computer.

I've copied pictures from "My Pictures" with Windows XP to a CD that opens fine on my XP system. When I open up the same CD on my Vista laptop, while the properties shows the appropriate used volume of the disk, the folder shows "Folder Empty" when trying to view contents. I created several CD's of pictures following the same copy procedure and they all work fine but for some reason this folder always reads "Folder Empty"
Weird huh?
Any Ideas?

A:"Folder Empty" with Vista from XP My Pictures

When you say copied, did you finalise the CD or leave it open.

Sometimes leaving it open (which I think is dangerous) only allows the CD to be viewed on the original machine.

Do ANY of the CD's you've made work on your Vista machine?

Well as the title says I have a bit of a mystery. My documents folder has been emptied, and I can not find its contents anywhere on my system.

My first thought is that I some how deleted the files, but none of them are in my recycle bin. (The files where not that large that they would have been permanently deleted and I have not emptied my recycle bin)

As far as recent activity aside from updates I recently removed my AV software and upgraded, and I tried to install an older version Power DVD that was not compatible with Vista. I can't imagine how either of which would have any effect on the "My documents" folder. What ever it was only effected that folder, all other folder types, pictures-movies-music etc... are all intact. I have ran a system scan and nothing has been detected on my system.

I guess I would like to know if there is a way I can back track and see if I did some how delete the files in which case I can try to recover them and/or if there was something that caused this to happen that I can avoid in the future.

Thanks

- Rich

A:Mystery - "My Documents" folder empty

I thought that in Vista it is just called "Documents" instead of "My Documents". Maybe a program created the "My Documents" folder that you're looking in. I thought all my documents had been deleted but they hadn't moved at all. Hope this is the case and you're documents are safe, if not, there are many more experienced people here to help you.

Now before I start, Yes I've looked at other peoples forums for help. Now I the issue with the problem I'm currently having is that I'm getting "Blank" Icons from programs, or the File Explorer doesn't load sometimes and says "Folder is empty". I've ran over 5 Anti Viruses, 3 registry fix scans and a file corrupt. Nothing worked. All my drivers are up to date but I think the real problem is that while my Windows was "Updating" when I shutdown it was kind of stuck or something so I force closed it. Maybe something like I'm missing files or need to replace files or some sort like that?

Hello,

I seem to have a problem with the file explorer as the title says when I am switching between folder and I click on This PC I get "this folder is empty" sometimes it gets back to normal for a couple of minutes but then it starts again
I tried booting into safe mode everything was fine, I tried clean boot but it was the same as it is now
Ran Virus scan came out clean, and I can't even seem to be able to do a repair install the Windows 8.1 setup starts
And after "Preparing 100%" it just fades away. when I check in Task Manager "Windows Module Installer" shows disk Activity, also when I adjust the performance to best appearance it changes back to best performance after reboot.

A:Windows 8.1 "This PC" says this folder is empty

I used to get this and it was so annoying! I would highly advice you do a scan in command prompt for corrupt files.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - Run in Windows 8

*Note: This will take a while

If it comes back and says some errors could not be corrected do the scan again another couple of times. Worst case scenario is that you will have to refresh windows.

Refresh Windows 8

Where did you get the game from????? Sounds like a virus if all the effected apps are for malware

I've noticed that sometimes Windows Explorer reports some folders as being empty, even though they aren't. Reentering that folder would reveal the files eventually.

Has anyone noticed this bug?

I'm already wondering how many folders did I accidentally delete because of this bug.

Hey mate, here is a good way to make your computer run faster: Optimize Performance of Windows 8

In addition, uninstall any program that you do not actually need/want. Especially uninstall toolbars or coupon apps, etc. After this, get your antivirus program to full scan for any malware on your computer.

After this, delete all your desktop shortcuts and recreate them. RIGHT-click your desktop, select new>shortcut, and browse to the location of the program to link to it. Click This PC>OS ( c: )>Program files [or located in Program files x86]>and find the program by searching through the matching folder - For example, Revo Uninstaller is located in the Revo Uninstaller folder, but you need to find the .exe that launches the program within that folder.

There are other methods to doing this. You can 'grab' a file or folder by RIGHT-clicking and holding to drag it to the desktop. A menu will pop open, and you will select create shortcut. You can freely rename these shortcuts also.

This computer has only one account so that I can start it up or restart it and walk out of the room and it is ready when I get back.
I have lost my Temporary Internet Files folder, i.e.
C:\Documents and Settings\name\Local Settings\"folder should be here"

For some reason the folder moved to inside the Temp file and when I tried to move the folder back where it belonged it just disappeared. I searched ?Temporary Internet Files? and all the other folders are empty and not used.

Everything works fine, except when I try to download a program like Opera that puts a install file in the Temporary Internet Files folder windows gives me an error telling me to find where the install file is. Thus I cannot update or get programs like Opera that use this method of installing on the computer. Searching for these install files shows that they are not on the computer.

How can I get my Temporary Internet Files folder back?

A:Lost "Temporary Internet Files" folder

Correction...please forgive my ignorance but there is two problems here that I found at the same time and in my flustration combined.

1) The Temporary Internet Files folder does not show any more. I found it in the Temp folder and tried to move it with two copies of My Computer (Windows Key+E) whereupon it promptly disappeared. It must be there although it does not show as I can empty it and everything works.

2) Any program that has an install file will no longer work on this computer. I get a error showing me that the file should be in the Temp folder. A search will not find the install file anywhere.
I will start a new thread on this in the future.

Sorry about the newbe mistake, please forgive me.

Have Vista Home Premium on 2 computers. Working with music on desktop and want to see "bitrate" on the tracks in the music folder but it isn't listed as a detail option. It is on my laptop. Any suggestions on how to get it on the desktop?

A:Lost "bitrate" as detail folder option

Hi ManorMusic and welcome to Vista Forums

This problem occurs when the folder template is set incorrectly. Here is the Sample Music folder set as Documents. You can see that the items available for the columns in Detail view do not include Bit rate.

To correct this, right click on a blank section and select Customize This Folder...

Select the Customize tab, if not already selected. In the first drop down box under Use this folder type as a template: select Music Details and click OK.

Notice that the items available for the columns in Detail view now include Bit rate. Also notice that the toolbar now includes the Play all button, whereas previously it didn't.

I don't know how I did this but when I go to START and then select DOCUMENTS, nothing happens at all. It just mysteriously disappeared. Everything else works just fine. I'm flabbergasted, really. I have no idea what happened. It's not hidden - I checked.

The only way I can access it is the old-fashioned long way: c, users, owner name, documents. This is a real pain and I'd really like to resolve this. There must be a way to do so; has to be. The Start Menu is supposed to be Quick Links and all the others ones on it open-up/function/work, if you follow me.

Can any kind and bright members here please help me with this please? Pretty please?

Also, how did the folder move? What could do this? I need to know this to ensure that it never happens again.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium
Edition, 32 bit.

Crossing my fingers and toes here that I can get this problem fixed.

Thanks all and have a great day! :-)

A:Lost my "Documents" folder in my Start Menu

Hello dottie5917, I am still a bit unsure what you mean "you lost your Documents folder" because you also mention that when you click on Documents in the Start Menu (I am assuming you mean the hyperlink) also nothing happens...let's see...if what you mean is that when you, from the Start Menu, click onto the hyperlink Documents and nothing happens (the Documents window does not open), then, I sugest you do the following: Go to Control Panel/Task Bar and Start Menu/click on the Start Menu Tab/then click on Custom or Personalise/scroll down until you see Documents/then make sure that "show as hyperlink" is ticked...if on the other hand you actually lost one of your folders inside the Documents window just: Do a Search for the folder using its name/transfer back the folder to the Documents window...and sorry but I am unsure what caused either of these situations...hope you can sort it

Hello everyone,

I recently installed a new SSD to run my OS and formatted my HDD to use as storage. While I was trying to follow a guide to relocate the My Photos, My Documents, etc. folders to the HDD, I accidentally assigned the My Pictures folder to the entire E: drive. Is there any way to restore it back to the SSD so I can properly move it? When I right click the E: drive and go to properties-->location-->restore default, it shows its original location is in my Users file on my C: drive, but it does not allow me to restore it to the default location, giving me the error "Failed to build the list of regular subdirectories under E:\System Volume Information. Access denied."

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I have lost all the contents of "My Documents".

1) In preparation for getting a new laptop, I "moved" the entire contents of "My Documents", including the directory, to a server directory.
2) Seeing the contents of "My Documents" on C: were still there, I looked at the server directory to verify that all files were at least copied.
3) I then deleted the "My Documents" directory on C:. Then I thought that was odd. I again looked at the server directory and to my horror all files that were "moved" had been deleted as well. No files are in the waste basket either!
4) A recover program has been run on my C: drive. The program can not find any files to restore from a "My Documents" directory.

Any hope?

A:"My Documents" folder moved and lost

That sould be recoverable to some extent if you have the right utilities.

This is a good thread as you should copy rather than move, verify after the transfer, then delete!

Moving and deleting over a server is different than on a laptop or workstation. There is no recycle bin in some cases.

This is an FYI,  I have resolved my problem but want to let others know the solution.

I have a Win 7 Professional, SP1 box that has a fileshare on a 2008 Enterprise server 64 bit SP2 where the user has been trying to create a folder.  Randomly she receives the "unable to create the folder "name of folder"  Too many files opened

box the fileshare was configured to synchronized.  Here is what I did to diagnose the issue.  I ran the program that creates the folder from the win7 box, then checked the UNC path from the win7 box to confirm folder is created, which it was.
I logged into the server and went to the mapped drive to that directory which the folder as not present (F5 did not show the folder)  From the server I typed the UNC path to the folder which did not exist.  Went to dos on the server to the layer
above the created folder and did a "dir" which did not show the newly created folder.  I then turned off the allow files to be available offline on the fileshare of the 2008 server.  Then I disable offline folders on the Win7 box.  After disabling
both of these the application is quickly creating the new ... Read more

Some programs give write errors when I try to modify a file inside Program Files with them (e.g.; Notepad++ gives write error when I try to edit a text file inside one of the sub-folders of the Program Files folder).

I'm the only user on this computer, and I'm already the administrator who installed this Windows. There is no other OS installed on this machine.

This problem has been occurring for a long time. At first I ignored it, but later it started to became bothersome. I don't remember how have it started, or what had I done before it first appeared.

I have a folder that is full of a lot of files including some big .avi, .mp3, .wav files.

Something has happened and I cannot open the folder.

The error message says "folder is not accessible/error performing inpage operation".

I would like to open the folder but I would settle for deleting it. I cannot delete it. The error message says "cannon delete: the folder is not empty".

When I go to props props says it has 0 bytes, 0 files, 0 everything.

When the file is selected (such as to check props) I can hear the drive grinding and it takes a minute of grinding for anything to happen.

I know the folder is still taking up space on my drive because if I go to My Computer and look at free space the space used is the same as before this problem started.

I am using Windows 2000 Professional, 5.0.2195 Service Pack 2 Build 2195.

I have a 42 Gig hard drive NTFS file system.

Need help to either delete this folder and its contents to free up space or open it and get the contents out.

Please help.
