Since Win8.1 update NVIDIA control panel is not working

Q: Since Win8.1 update NVIDIA control panel is not working

Since updating op system to Win 8.1, I am not able to get into the Nvidea control panel. I get a message that no displays are connected. I have got the Nvidea card as my primary source for the monitor.

Help appreciated.

Preferred Solution: Since Win8.1 update NVIDIA control panel is not working

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Since Win8.1 update NVIDIA control panel is not working

I guess you read the step by step instruction how to update the system from Win 8 to Win 8.1
Did you? Did you follow such instruction?

Did you update and install the essential nVidia driver for Win 8.1 which is available on Toshiba driver website?
If not, do that!

I've having trouble with my Nvidia Control Panel. Whenever I switch to 3D Settings and then switch tab to Program Settings, this error pops up.

When I click OK the control panel shows the two Select a Program and Specify the Settings boxes, but they're both empty.

How can I get all the games to appear again?

I've already tried reinstalling the 94.24 drivers and I restarted my computer several times.

I've updated the drivers for my 8600M GT nvidia gpu, and now every time I open nvidia control panel (to adjust resolution settings, set up multiple displays etc) it crashes ["nvidia control panel application has stopped working" etc etc] after one or two seconds. Very frustrating! There was no restore point saved, unfortunately, (I thought there was, but apparently not) so I can't roll back to the old drivers. I've tried older drivers from the nvidia archive, but I'm getting the same problem with all of them.

I'm using a Dell XPS M1530, running Vista.

All suggestions gratefully received!

A:Nvidia Control Panel crashes after driver update

What OS (32 or 64bit) are you running? and what driver version do you have?

If you can check of course, with nvidia control panel crashing.

Have you tried a manual install and tick the "clean install" box in the nvidia drivers installer?

Problem: When I right-click on my desktop and select "nvidia control panel", I get an error that says "nvidia control panel application, 4.4.730.0 has stopped working". The log file simply states the executable for this program crashed and gives no additional information.

I had been running the 296.10 driver on my machine with no problems. I upgraded the driver to 301.42. I had no problems for about a month and don't currently believe the driver version is related to the problem. The only change I made prior to this issue coming up, I installed Leisure Suit Larry which was speced for XP. The install may or may not be related, I can't think of how it would be.

Thus far, I've tried the below steps to resolve the issue with no luck:

-Installed 296.10 driver using "Clean Install" option.
-Installed 301.42 driver using "Clean Install" option.
-Uninstalled nvidia driver using Revo Uninstalled, then performed a "Clean" install, tried this with both 296 and 301 versions.
-Utilized Driver Cleaner Pro, followed by Revo Uninstaller to erase old GBU drivers and Physicx Drivers. Reinstalled 301.42. Restarted system. I was able to access the Nvidia Control Panel after the restart. I restarted a second time, and the same error this post is about occurred again. The error continues.

The only thing I can think of is to uninstall every single item marked 'nvidia', but I feel like that probably wouldn't... Read more

A:Solved: nvidia control panel application, 4.4.730.0 has stopped working

I found a guide, that when followed, corrected the problem I was having. http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=1174372&mpage=1

The key differences I noticed between what I was doing and what I should have been doing are as follows:

-Should have only been using default uninstaller application. Not Revo or driver sweeper.
-I should have been deleting every single item marked nvidia from my computer, except of course my mobo drivers and Raid management software.
-I needed to disable the function in windows that automatically downloads drivers from win update
-I should have let win7 load the default VGA driver, then restart without clicking a single other thing and finally installing the new driver from EVGA and then restarting again without touching anything else.

I've had this P40 a year or so with no issues. Discovered some sluggish graphics performance, checked to make sure nvidia was being used, and it wasn't. Went to change the nVidia settings and there was no nVidia control panel in my menus. Tried installing the latest drivers for the Quadro M500M. Uninstalled all nVidia drivers and software, directories (in C:\ and in Program Files) and installed selecting the "clean installation" option. Nothing I do will bring the nVidia control panel back. The whole reason I purchased this was the Quadro support. Outraged I just paid for another year of warranty only to find out that doesn't cover software issues at all. Anyone have a suggestion? Before I sell this and buy a machine from a brand with better support while under warranty.

Hi, everyone,

Details: Toshiba L855 Laptop with Intel i7. Windows 8.

I've had the computer (came with 8) for five months. No problems. On June 25th, after normal activities (minor video editing, transfer text file to Kindle, checking e-mail) the following happened simultaneously:

The Control Panel opens but all of the icons are missing. It was set to "small icons." It is like the normal Control Panel window but empty.
In the My Documents, Libraries (File Explorer), and any similar window used to view files, the icons for drives, documents, music, videos, etc.. are gone in the left column. Only "magnifying glass" animations are over the Libraries folder and a favorites "star" icon as if searching for the missing items. Other icons, such as drives, are gone.

(Pictures at bottom)

The list of items is available in the main pane, but for example, you can't change the icon type (details, small, large).

Here is the first kicker: If you restart, it comes back correctly. Eventually, however, and I can't seem to find the "reason," the above mentioned problems happen again (simultaneously: Control Panel Empty-Problems within the windows as noted above).

I did a system restore to five days before this happened. It recurred.

The big kicker: I refreshed the PC (reinstallation saving personal files and some settings). It recurred the same way even after the Windows 8 Refresh (which takes about 30 min.).

I did not download or reinstall anythin... Read more

A:Win8 Control Panel Empty-My Docs-Library problem

Do you have an instal disk, can you do a full re-install? Too bad you did the "refresh" you could have tried using System Restore and SFC /SCANNOW. You should try SFC /SCANNOW right now anyway.

How does the computer respond, is it fast, do you get any aperture circles waiting for stuff to start? If that is the case, you should try to run an external Drive Scanning program, you may have some bad spots on your drive, Windows 8 can mess up your system disk when shut off improperly of if it crashes or blue screens.

I always suggest using Hiren's Boot CD, the link is below and don't worry of your AV says it is a "virus" - It's not. Boot to Hiren's and find "Dos Programs" and in there are "Hard Drive Tools" -0 Find GWscan and scan your drive. If you have bad spots it will say "Read Element Failure" and it will give you an opportunity to fix it. It doesn't hurt to check the entire surface of your drive when stuff like what is happening to you occurs. Checking your Drive Surface - This is your first line of defence. A couple of bad sectors can cause a whole lotta problems.

A:nvidia control panel

Hello Kodiak420!

The Nvidia Control Panel follows with your Graphic Driver. Try reinstalling your Driver by using Nvidia Uninstaller (uninstall from your control panel as we know!)

Your resolution will change after you restarted your computer, it's all normal because Windows 7 is using the default driver

If you want to clean leftover files use the popular software, Driver Sweeper

Drivers - Clean Left over Files after Uninstalling

If you don't want to uninstall your driver, i'm sure there's some members having other suggestions for you!
Hope this helps.

I always changed those Perfomance and Quality thingies, but never noticed a difference, what does it change?
I mean, those 32xq Anti-Aliasing, never seen a difference.

Is there a performance change?
Like, 2 times faster , or??

A:Nvidia Control Panel

I've only noticed slight differences with some games and programs. When using the advanced settings there is a tab for application specific settings and I think those settings override the global settings. Unless your using the slider (basic panel).

I've also noticed that the older the game the less impact your settings seem to have. Like with Doom3, I cant change/improve the quality no matter what settings I use in the CP. I do notice a change in FPS in the game. But visualy, I cant see a difference.

I would be currious to hear some more detailed and accurate info from other users.

Also I'll mention I have the nvidia service set to manual. Im not sure how much impact if any that has.

I am having an issue with nvidia control panel 2.5 and an xp machine with a geforce 6200 by bfgtech.

The problem is that I cannot access the "manage custom resolution" feature in where I should be able to define my resolution wanted and force the resolution.

The reason for this is so that I can use this machine as a media box. It has s-video out and digital audio output so its good to go. The allowed resolutions are not cutting it as they don't display correctly when it is plugged in to the tv. It works but everything looks fuzzy.

I have another laptop with s-video out and it has nvidia control panel 2.2. I was able to select the 720 by 480 resolution which works perfectly with my tv. The tv is a regular 50 inch projection tv using an s-video cable.

help me please =)

A:NVIDIA control panel help.

Unless there is more to it than I can visualize in my brains, disabling (can you even do that? heh heh) Winrar has no affect on anything to do with NVidia, drivers or your video card.

I suggest you Google for how to clean your system of NVidia files and uninstall NVidia driver.

Based on your reading, when you are satisfied your system is "clean", then reinstall the driver by running the .exe.

Use this driver to reinstall.

after using the nvidia control panel to make your screen adjustments, save it as a profile and set that profile to be the default. Check in your display section inside your control panel that everything is a match to what you set nvidia to, and make sure in msconfig that nvidia is set to run at start up, i think its called nview.exe or nwiz.exe

I have 169.21 right now.

A:Can't Open nVidia Control Panel

hello ,

what you may have done is down loaded the wrong drivers for your card ??

i have done this befor !!

so go back to the home site for your card & compare the versions

also you may need a patch for the upgrade from the home site for the card ??

now when installing the new drivers & software for the card did you uninstall the older version then reboot & install the newer version then reboot

just need to ask

now what i need to do is go to your (device manager)

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

now if you see any (red or yellow) quotation marks , make a note of what they

now go to the (event veiwer) this is thru the (administrator tools) in the control panel
here you will find 3 to 4 subcatagories

you will want to check each of them for this is where windows keeps track of all errors
now you will want to make notes of the errors that have been recorded ( you do not have to make notes of double entries just of the dates of their happenings & how many there is)
you will get more information on the errors if you (right) click them / then select properties

then get back to us

Here's a query:

On, for example, Far Cry 2 I have all the display settings on full, including antialiasing (can be set to x8). However on my Nvidia Control Panel the antialiasing mode setting is set to 'override application setting' (see attachment).

My question is this: in order to get the best from my game should I set the game's settings on full (or to whatever I want) and set the Nvidia settings to full too (or to match those of the game)?

I am confused by this because logic suggests that the Nvidia CP does actually override all other settings but when I run Crysis the game crashes if I have antialiasing on full but when I set the antialiasing to x4 then it runs fine. This would suggest that Nvidia CP doesn't override all other settings.

A:Antialiasing and Nvidia Control Panel

On the Application Settings tab are there any preloaded applications there? Sometimes common games may be preloaded there with default settings. The globalsettings only get used if there is NOT a setting for a specific app on the applications tab.

But anyway, you SHOULD set the settings for your specific games on the application settings tab rather than on the global settings tab so that you don't have issues like the one you are describing where two games are incompatoible with a single set of settings.

As for who overrides who... I've found that it is somewhat random :/ It depends on exactly how/when the game or application applies it's settings I think. Sometimes the app overrides, sometimes it doesn't. I just tweak the applications settngs for the app in the nvidia control panel then also set the settings in the app to match how I want them.

I can't view Nvidia Control Panel nor I can't update either..

First I wanted to get the updated driver of my NVIDIA driver here:

Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

I went to their site, got the 195.62 version window 7 x64 (I have windows 7 x64 installed) it would download a bit and then My screen would go black and a lil music note would play, my screen would turn on after it ends and the installing window would finish but it would say:

InstallShield Wizard Complete
The system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, run the installation again.

Click Finish to exit the wizard

I quickly assume, maybe something is blocking it? , I disable my firewall, my AV and it's firewall, and User Account Control Settings, I lowered it to Never notify.

I rebooted, tried again, same thing happens. So I thought maybe it isn't comparable? but I have a GTS 250 NVIDIA geforce, with windows 7 x64, and downloaded the one with those specifications ofc.

Not only that but from the beginning I couldn't view NVIDIA control panel either.

When I click NVIDIA control Panel, a pop up says"

The NVIDIA Display Panel Extension cannot be created.

Possible reasons include:
Version mismatch. Resintalling display drivers may solve this problem.

I been thinking of maybe erasing my NVIDIA drivers and reinstalling, but I'm afraid it won't download or "allow" me to download the driver of NVIDIA to make my graphic card work as it is now... ... Read more

OS Name: Microsoft? Windows Vista Home Premium (32bit)
Version: 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 Build 6002

How can I fix this problem?
I have attached a image of the error that I see.

A:NVIDIA control panel application

I would start with the graphics driver
Go to device manager, make sure that the graphics driver is up to date and that no yellow markers are anywhere to be seen.
Make sure the the tree, in the left panel, is not open anywhere and open tree indicates a problem in that area.

Hi Folks,

I have a dual boot system with Win XP on one partition and Vista 64 Ultimate on the second partition. Sometime recently, perhaps at the latest Windows Update on Vista, my nVidia Control Panel stopped working in Vista 64. I am using nVidia driver 185.85, the latest non-beta version available. I am using nVidia system tools 6.05, the latest set available. I have cleaned out my drivers with Driver Sweeper, and reloaded them with no change. I have loaded the drivers with all virus software shut down, with all unnecessary apps shut down. When I try to start up the nVidia control panel, whether in the Windows Control Panel or other shortcut, Vista tells me that "nVidia Control Panel has stopped working". I am getting the impression that the nVidia drivers are not running, since when I add them they are not defaulting to max resolution like they normally do. The system seems to be running on some default video driver instead.

CPU, GPU, MCP temperatures are nominal, no indications of problems there.

I would greatly appreciate some advice on how to trouble shoot this and get back to working properly.

My system specs are as follows:

OS Name Microsoft? Windows Vista™ Ultimate 64 bit
Version 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 Build 6002
System Manufacturer XFX78I
System Model XFX nForce 780i 3-Way SLI

Hello Doug,

Try installing the driver while in safe mode, there seems to be a lot of people having this problem and there is some success installing this way. Good luck and post your results.

Now I installed the 305.xx driver from lenovo website, nothing happens when I try to open Nvidia control panel. I've read somewhere that it clashes with intel driver, but if I uninstall it, resolution is stuck on 1024x768 and I can't use second monitor (monitor has VGA only). Can anyone help please?

I was using a friends PC (windows XP, IE 8) and right clicked on desktop and in menu it had NVIDIA control panel, being it was something new to me I clicked on it thinking it would open and I could see what it was. Nothing really happened after clicking on it but when I did a restart all the desktop short cuts loaded blank and the names of links contained .ink after them.
None of them will open neither can I open things in Control Panel. Was going to do a system restore but again nothing will open. It was not in add/remove programs for I was in there prior to finding this and it was not listed. He said he did not download it and not aware it was there. Do I owe him a new PC or can someone bail we out of this mess?

thanks, tlh99

Am on x64 and for some reason the Nvidia Control panel never installs? when installing the 195.81 x64 driver's from Nvidia.

The control panel don't show up anywhere. Normally you right click on the desktop and go to it there or find it in the taskbar but there is nothing there and there's nothing in the Nvidia Cooperation folder regarding the control panel either. However in the \Programs\NVIDIA Corporation folder there is only one file which is the NVIDIA PhysX Properties .exe, but that won't load. It says "Windows Cannot find NvCpIU.exe" which am guessing is saying it can't find the control panel.

Specs are
Gigabyte P35-S3G
Evga 9600GT SC
Emu 1820m
Samsung F1 + WD's
7 x64 Ultimate

I've got another rig with my other copy of 7 x64 with a 7600gt and everything works fine with the same driver's, I can access the Nvidia control panel without no problem.
Any advise or idea's?

A:Nvidia Control Panel won't Install

Tried installing 195.62 driver's but control panel still won't show. Tried uninstalling each driver then reinstalling after driver sweeper etc but it's not working. Really need the control panel to set things up properly on here.

Thanks in advance.

I used to be able to access the Nvidia Control Panel, and I don't know what changed that made it so that I can't access the Nvidia Control Panel.
I did a system restore to an older point, but the problem still persists.
When I try to access the Nvidia control Panel, It says something about not recognizing the Nvidia graphics card on my computer.
Here is a Speccy link because I do not want to list every spec of my laptop.
I run Windows 8 64 bit and use a Intel Graphics card as well as the Nvidia GTX 760m
It seems that the computer does not recognize the Nvidia card.
I did a driver update from the Asus website, because my computer is ASUS n56jr laptop.  My games work now, but I still can't access the Nvidia control panel.  Rather than having a popup message, I double click on Nvidia control panel under Hardware and Sound in control panel, and nothing happens.
As I said before, this problem hasn't happened before.

Are you using the latest version of the Nvidia drivers? I just updated my system less than two weeks ago.

Hey everyone. How ya been.

Basically here's my problem. I'm trying to open the Nvidia Control Panel, and it crashes and gives me the option to check for solutions online.. and Nothing seems to get the Control Panel to open.

Yes, I've done a Re Install of Drivers, I've updated and tried the 180.43, 44, 48 and then just did the 181.20's. Still doesn't work. I was then told that the 185 extreme G drivers helped someone with same problem. So I just barely installed those, with NO luck. It's still crashing. Basically I just got my new GTX 260 today and I now can run SLI, but I can't get the darn control panel open to enable SLI... I'm going crazy here.

I googled the problem, and someone suggested I delete the nvapps.xml folder in the actual driver file location and then reinstall. I tried that as well.

If ANYONE has any idea's on how to fix this I'm very open to suggestions. I've just installed NV system Tools, but if it's anything like nTune I don't want it near my system. lol.

Please help me out. I wanna see these babies in action.

Hi, I recently downloaded and install NVIDIA's July update on Video Cards. When I tried to run 3D Vision it says "Feature is not enable. Press OK to launch control panel. Please review stereo setup information." When I pressed OK, the control panel application crashed. Microsofts reports "NVIDIA Control Panel Application, has stopped working." I'm running on VISTA 32-bit Home Edition 2 GB of RAM and Geforce 8200.

Hi, all!

I hope this is the right section to be posting this in.

I've been having a lot of issues with my computer, a refurbished/modified Sony Vaio.
I just got it back from a computer repair store where they were replacing the fan, as my old fan had up and died. The computer had been slow before then, but after getting it back from him, I've found its performance has taken an absolute nosedive.
While trying to disk defragment, AVG came up with multiple security warnings. I allowed it to exterminate the threats without much thought. Afterwards, I had realized that I believe it messed with my NVIDIA software. Ever since the AVG debacle, the NVIDIA Control Panel refuses to open. I have tried to install the drivers for my graphics card, but in going through the setup, it gives me an error saying it could not find compatible graphics hardware.

Any help with getting my NVIDIA back would be greatly appreciated!

OS: Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 CPU T7400 @ 2.16GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 2046MB RAM
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400

Let me know if you need any other information!

A:Solved: NVIDIA Control Panel won't open

Fixed it! After searching about AVG, I was able to restore the NVIDIA components that it had disabled. Sorry for the trouble!
