Solved: HP Deskjet 1000 J110 VERY Slow

Q: Solved: HP Deskjet 1000 J110 VERY Slow

I have this HP printer with my windows xp system. I was printing a couple pages yesterday and it was ok, then I discovered I made a mistake and needed to print it again, and I didn't do anything different.... but it suddenly turned extremely s-l-o-w. When I clicked print it just sat there. The print dialog box said "printing". It sat so long that I canceled it, eventually when I printed again I discovered that if I wait long enough, it took the paper in, then printed like 1 line and stopped, few minutes later 1 more line, etc I canceled it.

When I try to print a test page, it does the same thing. I went into the toolbox and tried the "clean" function, but that would not work - it said "device busy". I tried to align the printer, but that also said "device is busy". It won't let me do anything!!

I also tried to re-install the drivers, but it says the driver is not on the disk (i have the original disk!) and a generic driver didn't work.

I can't do anything with it. This just suddenly happened. How can I fix this?

Preferred Solution: Solved: HP Deskjet 1000 J110 VERY Slow

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Is there any way or any work around to get the HP Deskjet 1000 j110 printer to work in Windows XP 64? HP says the j110 is not supported for xp 64 but I was wondering if anyone had messed with this and figured a way with some other drivers or some way to make it work in the os xp-64?

A:get the HP Deskjet 1000 j110 printer to work in Windows XP 64

If HP doesn't have the drivers, then you aren't likely to find a "work around". I've seen drivers hacked to correct problems or enable features, but I've not seen drivers created for non supported hardware.

I'm trying to check the ink levels for my printer. For HP Deskjet 1000 J100 series. I've installed and set up the printer but don't know where the control panel or HP toolbox is. I opened the HP Deskjet icon, but the only thing that opens is a window asking if I want to install a new printer. I opened the HP Smart app, and the printer says that it's Ready, but when I click on printer settings, then print quality tools, it says "This feature is not available for your selected printer through HP smart app. To check control panel."

I've been going around in circles trying to find the control panel or toolbox. Also, I've been using the printer for a couple of years now, with no problems. So it's hooked up correctly. It's only now I decided to use the Check Printer ink function.

Maybe I need to install another driver or something. All I want to do is check printer ink levels. Please help.

Thanks, Josie

Just purchased an inexpensive HP printer (Deskjet 1000 J110a). In the past I've done a lot of printing, on 2 different printers, from PhotoImpact Pro 13--without problems. But with this new printer, while the image on the print preview screen looks ok, it prints twice as wide as it should--but no taller. The problem does NOT extend to other software such as MS Word, Paint.

If I skip the print preview screen, it prints correctly. But then I can't re-size or move the image where I want it.

Any ideas?

I have had a deskjet portable printer for years. After refilling the black cartridge last time, it suddenly stopped printing. I went through all the online help sites I could find and tried many things, like stopping and restarting print spooling, reinstalling the printer, and even bought a new black and color catridge. So, still having the probs after installing the new carts, went and tried lots of things again - uninstall, reinstall, etc. Finally, disabled bidirectional support and removed the color cart. Now it is printing as slow as a wet week. But at least I know the rollers are feeding the paper. I was getting "paper out" messages and "printer offline". Any help really appreciated.

I have a deskjet 722C that is ridiculously slow on my 400MHz pentium2 256MB ram system!

I have pared down on fonts; updated to new driver, disabled bi-directional communication and the silly "status monitor" that HP recommended on their web page and still,...within word, from MSIE, it is slow. It used to be very fast when my computer was new but it just kills me now!

Disabling bidirectional support will actually slow down your printer.

Slow printing is like anything else on your system... a good defragging will probably help. If your drive is badly fragmented or nearly full (or both) it will drastically slow down print spooling. Background processes can also slow down the entire system.

Any suggestions toward a solution?

Many thanks.  Appreciated.

Yesterday I installed an HP Deskjet D1460 printer and its software from the installation CD. Since then, Excel and Word both take an unusually long time to load, say 15-20 seconds. I have an HP Pavilion Desktop PC, and am running Windows XP and have been keeping current on Windows updates.

The TruCrypt encryption application is also slow to mount.

I've uninstalled the HP drivers associated with the Photoshop and image, but haven't touch the other HP drivers. Has anyone else seen this issue? How would you suggest I handle this?

A:1000 Pos Tmp Files And Red Cross On C, Runs Slow

Hello tadej1,Are you running two antivirus programs? Trend Micro antivirus and Symantec/Norton Antivirus? If so, then uninstall one of them. I (as well as MicroSoft, McAfee and Symantec) recommend that you DO NOT have more than one anti virus product installed and running on your computer at a time. The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, then those products which do not encrypt the virus strings within them can cause other anti virus products to cause "false alarms". It can also lead to a clash as both products fight for access to files which are opened again this is the resident/automatic protection. In general terms, the two programs may conflict and cause:1) False Alarms: When the anti virus software tells you that your PC has a virus when it actually doesn't.2) System Performance Problems: Your system may lock up due to both products attempting to access the same file at the same time. Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer. Save it to your desktop. Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. I have a Dell Inspirion E1505 I purchased in the summer of 2006. Last year, I put in a new hard drive, doubled the amount of memory, replaced the keyboard, and put in a new CD/DVD drive. It's currently running XP.

Lately, especially with the wireless, my computer has been acting funny. Slow, very slow to open up new tabs in Internet Explorer. The other day it was SO slow I decided to restart it and see if that helped. It started up fine, but when I tried pressing "Start" to open back up Internet Explorer it was frozen. At this point I decided to reboot and run a diagnostic. This is what I got:

DST Short Status Test
Test results: Fail
Error code 1000-0146
Message: Unit0: IDE status failed
Status byte=64 Control code=1
Message=no additional sense information

Test results: Fail
Error code: 1000-0141
Message: no drive detected
I haven't done anything since I got that result (as in, my computer is still on and on this diagnostics page)

What should I do?

A:DST Short Status Test, 1000-0146, 1000-0141

Test results: Fail
Error code: 1000-0141
Message: no drive detectedClick to expand...

Looks like the hard drive has failed again, you could however remove and reinsert the drive to see if that gets the drive detected again, most likely a failed hard drive.

Hi Tronk,

There isn't anything really going on in your logs. Just a few registry entries and a program to get rid of. I personally wouldn't run any of those registry cleaners/boosters on my computer because they usually create more problems in the long run.

Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. Check the following entries (If they still exist, make sure you do not miss any)

Please / Thanks: Windows XP 5.1 SP3; just got the HP printer noted above; it's been sitting in an office for about five years, lonely; worked fine, she says; downloaded/installed what I could e-locate for the model; my PC tells me all is well with the newbie, but when it comes printtime, the paper moves through appropriately, the appropriate sound of the ink mechanism moving back and forth is heard, but the grand result is, merely, a blank sheet of paper. The ink cartridges and electroconnection points are clean and dry.

Shall I conclude that the souls of the ink cartridges have flown the bodies after having been unattended and unused for such a length of time? Haven't tried new cartridges yet. Or is there something else I should be attending to?

Thanks / appreciated.

I think I'm missing some software for the HP F4235. Basically, when copying, I want to adjust the contrast, etc. I can get to the dialog box for printing, which is part of the Windows XP program I believe. Everything I read at the Hp website and Deskjet help leads me to believe I'm supposed to be able to access another dialog box for printing, scanning and copying (and adjust the settings).

I think this is Photosmart? I downloaded photosmart and tried to install it, but it says I have a newer version and quits. I can't access this program. My menu, under HP, just has help items. The TaskBar has "Launch/Show Director" but will not launch.

If Photosmart is what I'm looking for, I was thinking about deleting everthing to do with the printer and try to reinstall it???

Thanks, Brian

My husband and I just bought a HP 3050A Deskjet printer. We do a lot of scanning and the scan-preview window is so small it's impossible to see to modify the settings (such as brightness or contrast). Hi All,

I have a F2280 running on Vista and I can't get the thing to print a page. It's connected to a Vista laptop and was working fine until the laptop started having a few issues. It turned out it was missing a load of Windows updates but once they were all on the printer stopped working. I uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled with the most recent ones from the HP website with no luck. All the HP diagnostic software reports all of its tests are fine.

When I try and print the page goes to the queue and stays there reporting "Printing" but the printer never does anything (this includes from the test page option of the printer options)

The printer can print its own test page (by holding down a combo of buttons)

The scanner works as does on printer copying

The installed HP software is capable of making the printer print an alignment page, cleaning the heads and knows how full the cartridges are

It's incredibly frustrating that the computer / HP software reports that everything is fine, I've run the helper software and it could suggest nothing and I've tested the printer on a Windows 7 machine and it's fine.

Any thoughts - I'm out of ideas.

After a long time of inactivity, and with the help of a member of the Tech Guy forums here, I was able to re-avtivate my HP Deskjet 5550 printer. But it seems, there is one more problem to be solved: the paper is not reached by the pulling wheels inside.

I suspect a missing part here. Please have a look to the two photos showing the empty paper tray (I removed, for better visibility, the outlet tray), and the same tray filled with some paper. The papers are on the ground, but the wheels above them which should pull them into the mechanics of the printer, are not touching them. Thus my suspicion of a missing part.

Is there anyone who can assist me? It is so frustrating to had to wait six years to use this printer again (HP does not offer support nor even any response to help requests to people from Jamaica), and now to face a second problem just after the first problem of a missing cable was solved.

Moved my HP Deskjet 5550 from win 98 to XP using a parallel to USB cable. Obtained latest drivers and installed. Test print and calibration both correct but won't print out anything but first centimeter on page before ejecting in any other application. Print preview (even the HP supplied one) shows one page correctly but print queue lists it as 3 pages!

Is this to do with XP the cable or what? Have uninstalled and reinstalled - same problem. Have checked page set up in application and printer and all appears correct.

Can't understand why test page correct but nothing else!

Any help welcome!

A:Solved: Deskjet 5550 won't print properly

Umm... okay, when you say 'parallel to USB', do you mean a USB/Parallel adaptor? If so, why not just use a USB cable, since the 5550 has an either/or system? (I have 2 of these machines, one of which is plugged into two computers - one through the parallel, one through the USB.)

Remember though, since the 5550 has both jacks available, you have to chose which setup to use when doing so. If you are using a parallel to parallel hookup, the printer has to be plugged into the parallel jack and powered on while the software is being installed. If you're trying to plug it in via a USB to USB connection, you must install the software BEFORE plugging the machine into the USB jack - the install will tell you when to plug it in. If you are using a USB/Parallel adaptor, ITS OWN software must be installed first. The adaptor then needs to be plugged into the computer, and THEN you plug the printer into the adaptor and power it up, followed by installing the software via the Parallel to Parallel method.

Now, the other thing to remember is to either use the 5550's install disk to remove the software, or simply delete the 5550's icon from the Printer's and Faxes listing on your Control Pannel. I do NOT reccommend using "Add or Remove Software" for printers, since this program can remove too much, such as registry information from Windows.

Good luck!

The printer is a usb printer several years old.

I'm not sure why my printer port says 'ECP printer port (LPT1).
I don't know what ecp means.

I had this printer working but then put in a new hard drive. I downloaded the driver from hp and ran it. I saw the printer in the printers' windows set as the default printer. But I get an error message saying the document failed to print.

When I unplug from the computer the USB to the printer and then plug it back in, I hear a tone. But I don't see a message saying new hardware found when I have uninstalled the ecp printer port (LPT1). Also the hp software doesn't detect the printer when installing the drivers for it.

I went into the registry and deleted hp deskjet 6122 in two places and then reinstalled after several attempts at trying to upgrade the driver to the one from hp and also from running the hp setup program to install the printer.

Should the printer usb cable be unplugged when running the HP software to install the printer if the ecp printer port (LPT1) device is removed?

Should I change the port from 'ecp printer port (LPT1)' to 'printer port (LPT1)?

Should I uninstall all my usb ports and then re-install them?

comments : I have external Iomega Zip drive and HP ScanJet 5P as part of my system. The printer starts to print word document and stops mid stream. In the past I have shut down computer, restarted and it works. I'm thinking of uninstalling printer and scanner and reinstalling. In the past I have had .dll error messages(I may have inadvertently deleted some .dll a while back when moving scanner files from C drive to Zip drive, my system has never been the same since.) Your consideration is appreciated and lunch is on me if we ever meet.

Recently installed a HP Officejet 7310 in my own PC system and gave my old HP DeskJet 722c to my son. His PC with MS2000 doesn't have the driver listed. Their PC is primarily a game system not tied to the internet. Printing is a sometime but necesry function. Simply I need a driver download to put on a CD. Any ideas?

Welcome to TSG!

What OS are you running?
Which of the steps in the KB article the error message referred you to have you tried?

Most likely just need to download an updated driver from the download center, the link is in Step 2 under Method 1.

Hi Rollerman, and welcome to TSG.

From what I have been able to find on-line, your computer has a digital audio optical (S/PDIF) output and your sound bar has 2 optical inputs. A matching optical cable connecting the two should give you the best audio performance. You will need to make sure that the digital output is enabled in the computer's settings and the correct optical input is selected on the sound bar.
