I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi folks,
I am working with a company (that I have actually worked with for over 10 years on a consulting basis) and we are auditing our Microsoft Windows Server and server product licenses and preparing to upgrade Windows Server products.  We have ran into a snag, where the former System Administrator left the company a few years ago, however it was understood that the information regarding the VLSC was transferred to another partner in the company.  A new Systems Administrator has taken over, and we have determined that we do not have this information, including a Microsoft account username and password to access the VLSC and our Windows Server 2008R2 product keys, license agreements, SKUs, and downloads.  Unfortunately, the situation became took a turn for the worse about three months ago when the partner that had this information passed away.  No one at the company has access to this login information.  I currently administer most of their licensing, and have access to their much of their licensing information, download, product keys, etc., but I am clearly missing some very important ones.  I called Microsoft and they were of no assistance.  Since I am an administrator on the network, I can create a mailbox that the VLSC was probably originally registered under, however the VLSC says that Microsoft account is not even valid, not even prompting for the password.
I have a mailbox on their Exchange Server for their domain to prove I am ass... Read more

Hello,

This machine is a very common model in my environment and I have done many fresh windows installations using the OEM license key without issue. however, on this particular machine, it reports it cannot activate because it cannot contact the KMS for activation.
Again, to clarify, this is the OEM product key that has been automatically pulled over from UEFI and NOT a MAK/KMS key.

I've run diagnostics as typically requested for this type of issue and can provide any additional information you might need. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated!!

From reading and watching security reviews (esp with this crowd) Kaspersky has become more and more appealing to me over the past year. So tonight while at Walmart I went and looked at the AVs for sale and decided spur of the moment to give Kaspersky AV a try. (1pc AV $30) I prefer in store purchases to avoid automatic renewal enrollment.

I removed my other security solutions and went to the download URL (case does not include a cd) which is a automatic download URL site for the latest version. Kasperky installed in less than 5min and there was no problem activating the license. My computer is very pedestrian but so far I've not noticed any dramatic slow down or high ram usage and the update went smoothly.

First impression in compared with Bitdefender which is the other traditional AV I've had a lot of experience with the software is much more optimized and there is a considerable greater amount of settings, which is a big plus in my book. Currently the settings are at default except I enabled protection for remote control.

My only question right now is, does Kaspersky update automatically to new year releases or do I need to do that manually? Thanks.

A:Purchased Kaspersky AV license

It will auto update to the new version if a new version comes within your subscription period. You should have given your local Target a try, they have those on clearance around my area which is 60% off. KIS for 3 PC's $18

I purchased a large amount of music from a legitimate online music seller (Virgin Digital) that is no longer in operation. Recently, my hard drive began behaving strangely and I moved all the music (at least $1000 worth) to an external hard drive. I did this simply by dragging the music folder into the external drive.

My hard drive has since crashed and I installed a new one. However, when I attempt to play my legally purchased music, windows media player 11 give me a very discouraging pop-up: "License Required: A license is required to play the selected song or video ..."

It encourages me to visit the website where I purchased the music, but alas they are no longer. Is there any way to retrieve these files? Or have I lost all of this music?

Thanks!

A:License Required Message for Purchased Music

I believe that the license becomes invalid if the files are moved from the machine. But there may be exceptions, so wait for responses from people who know more about purchased music than I do.

What format were these files (.wmv, .mp3, or what)?

Hi all! I've been purchasing legal audio files (.wmas) from Walmart.com and Buy.com, and burning my own CDs. The software I've been using it is Windows Media Player 9, with the Roxio Premium CD burning applet provided by Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 Platinum.

The first disc went well, but when I went to burn the second disc, I get an error message from the Roxio Premium Burning applet for each .wma file: "There is no digital rights license to burn this file to disc." The .mp3s in the playlist, on the other hand, are fine.

Oddly enough, when I right-click on a .wma file while in WMP9 and select Properties, the License tab gives the information: Protected content/ 10 copy(s) to CD remaining. (Buy.com files give 7 copy(s) remaining, which isn't much of a difference.) So if I'm missing my licenses, how can I still see how many copy(s) I have remaining?

If it were only a WMP9 problem, I'm guessing I would be able to burn my discs in Roxio's Audio Creator... but the purchased .wmas aren't even acknowledged within the program. (My .mp3s are, as well as the .wmas I've ripped from discs.)

I have attempted to restore the licences from my backups; however, that doesn't fix the problem either. Perhaps the backups are corrupt, or WMP9 is not properly saving the licenses to the backup file-- I'm not sure which is the case. When I attempt to create a new backup, I get this message: "Transfer complete, with limitation... Read more

A:WMP 9 won't burn legally purchased WMAs-- license issues

Update--

I attempted the fix listed in the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 810422, with no success. All attempts to update the security component (as listed in the article) fail.

After yet another reload of WMP9, I restored the licenses for all files purchased from Walmart.com. However, the problem still exists. So, the licenses don't appear to be the problem-- WMP9 is refusing to acknowledge them. Or perhaps it's the Roxio burning component--haven't figured out which one yet.

If there's anyone out there with help or even a recommendation of where to look, I'd be very grateful. I've been Googling like mad and can't seem to find much documentation for WMP at all.

Thanks in advance,
Nightflyer

I had Amazon UnBox. I purchased and downloaded videos onto an external hard drive to view. I viewed the videos on Windows Media Player. When UnBox ceased operations, Amazon assured me that I would still be able to view my purchased and downloaded videos, which was true.

My computer crapped out (motherboard died, but I have the HD in an another external mount) and I have since gotten a new one. I hooked up my external drive with my videos but I am unable to play them (it says the DRM license is not valid). Amazon says that the license is only valid for the original computer (ie I am SOL).

Is there anyway to transfer the licenses to the new computer?

I tried Amerisoft DRM Media Converter but it doesn't work because you need to have the proper licenses (so I should have done this BEFORE my computer crashed).

Please help.

A:Transfer Amazon license of purchased videos from old computer to new

Assuming your new OS and WMP player versions are the same, you may be able to move the keys (but not likely). I've not dealt with it, but WMP deals with DRM on it's own, and has tools for backup/restore of licenses (which also isn't going to help as you didn't make a backup). But you may be able to copy to the keys. At least that is where I would start looking.

I need to reinstall Windows on a Dell D620. The machine's license tag is damaged so that the entire license key can't be read. How can I recover the key?The instructions I've found for recovering a license key involve decrypting an entry read from the Registry. But I can't read the Registry until I restore the system! If I can't restore the system until I get the license key from the Registry, I'm stuck.

A:How to recover a Windows license key for a machine with a damaged tag?

You're going to need Dell OEM Windows install media (which won't need the license key anyway) -- any other Windows distribution won't work even with the Dell license key.
If you're the original owner, you can see if Dell will sell you recovery media (they won't for anything older than Windows 7, though).

My question is - how do I do the upgrade, keeping all my data and system settings intact?

Just wipe the hard drive, if that component is still working.

If it isn't just reload Windows on the new machine, always assuming it was not an OEM version that was originally activated with Microsoft online using the original hardware.

Hey guys

Was just wondering. If I have a Licensed Server 2012 R2 running 3 Hyper-V machines, can I use 3 NEW, never activated OEM Licenses for Windows 7 Professional to activate on the virtual machines?

Under the FAQ OEM licensing it says that it can be used for 1 install of either Physical or Virtual.
http://www.microsoft.com/OEM/en/Pages/support-faq.aspx#fbid=0mG9cN9s-3N

Q.Can I install OEM software on a virtual machine (VMware)?

A. You can install OEM software in a virtual environment as long as you have a separate license for each instance of the software. It is fine to use the OEM version as long as it is properly licensed. To be clear, a separate version of the
software must be installed for both the ?standard? and ?virtual? installations.

Please advise.

Hello and welcome,

It may be possible to figure that out with a bit more information.  What laptop model?  What's the MT-M?  If the Machine Type - Model is in the PSREF database it should specify what the base license is.

It mightl be possible to extract the embedded license from BIOS - others may be able to help with that.

EULA clause 4b states:

b. Stand-alone software. If you acquired the software as stand-alone software (and also if you upgraded from software you acquired as stand-alone software), you may transfer the software to another device that belongs to you. You may also transfer the software to a device owned by someone else if (i) you are the first licensed user of the software and (ii) the new user agrees to the terms of this agreement. You may use the backup copy we allow you to make or the media that the software came on to transfer the software. Every time you transfer the software to a new device, you must remove the software from the prior device. You may not transfer the software to share licenses between devices.

It is not clear how this may be done, especially if the upgrade to Windows 10 was done from a retail copy of 7 or 8.x, or 8MCE.

I cannot find a tutorial here on Tenforums.

The license is probably windows 7 and the key is only valid for an OEM install from disks that you would need to order (buy) from Lenovo.  Installing windows 7 today is complicated.

Microsoft has not done well with windows 7 updates. A fresh install of windows 7 requires a lot of things to be downloaded, and the update process works poorly for win7. You need to update the servicing stack and do an update rollup before windows update will run at all. If you were ever going to update to windows 10, now is the time.
Try this: Update servicing stack: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=46817 Then apply this: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53332 Then retry windows update

I have windows 7 Pro retail, and Windows Vista Ultimate OEM, and am using Win 7 currently (obviously).

I wasnt interested in getting Windows 8 at first because windows 7 is perfect, and I didnt want to repeat the same mistake of XP > Vista.

But I just found out that I can upgrade my Vista license to Win 8 for just ?24.99 which convinced me to get Win 8.

The problem is, will I need to reinstall Vista first to upgrade that license to Win 8?

A:Is upgrading from a not installed license possible?

No you shouldn't have to. It should upgrade overtop of your existing OS. During the process you have the option to upgrade or clean install...although in windows 8 calls it something else. If it were me I would definitely upgrade the Vista PC.

I'm wondering how to use my migrated Win8 Retail license on my next machine. It will be a few years from now and well past the free upgrade offer.

I've used Showkey and I'm not sure if what it returns will be usable. If memory serves me (don't trust it myself) I think it's either the default Win10 Pro key or my Win8 Key (I'm on Win8 now, will post an image next time I'm on Win10).

The default Win10 certainly won't activate and the Win8 key will not upgrade after 29 July 2016.
The digital entitlement won't be valid - that's for the old machine.

It will most likely require phone activation and that's not a problem. I'll just have to remember that's how Win10 will activate given this scenario.

Remember: it's a Retail licence
I understand and comply with all of the legalese (one machine, remove from old...)

Any thoughts?

How can this be corrected?  I would?ve done a system restore, but the oldest date available is after the problem was occurring.
I'm not sure just how long this was occurring on my machine, but I did have some virus trouble a short while back, which I think is the likely cause. My machine seems good otherwise, Malwarewarebytes, McAfee cleaned me up.

Although this time, Microsoft apparently decided I had been enjoying Office 2002 for waaayyy to long without giving them more of my hard-earned money.

Because Windows update has made changes so that now every time I open an Office software (Outlook, Word, etc.), it demands my license Office 2007 keycode, which I don't have since I didn't buy Office 2007 - and don't want it!

Help please!

Hi,
This is a very quick and probably easy question.
I am offering regular KMS client servers, so the customer do not need to do any licensing as it will just happen out of the box.
BUT, we also want to offer a Bring Your Own license option, so the end customer can insert their own key.
So,I understand how to change the keys on our Windows Servers, and I wonder whether this builds will accept any OEM key as a replacement for the default KMS client one or not?

Many thanks.

Hello, I am restoring an older laptop of mine, an Acer Aspire, it originally came with Windows Vista (which I liked).
I have a Windows License for this machine, unfortunately Vista is no longer available.
Any suggestions? I am not opposed to buying a Windows 7 license if I have too.

A:Windows License?

You can find Vista here, if you want.

Other options would be any version of Linux.

Hi, have an IBM Thinkpad A31 laptop. It came with Windows XP Pro. I have had to format it and reload windows several times because of certain issues(failed hard drive, virus, etc) This last time i did it, it told me that I had run out of install licenses with that license. I think I heard of this somewhere, but I also heard that it is suppose to renew itself after 6 months. Is this true? Thanks in advance

A:Windows XP license

When this happens you will have to get in touch with Microsoft and explain your case. If everything checks out ok you wont have a problem.

What is a Windows XP license? Does one really exist?
All the latest oem versions are now supplied in boxes, and in the box is a leaflet which states that the sticker for the pc is not the licence, but is to help the end user to determine whether or not the installation is genuine & not pirated.

I lost the license of windows 10 ...and i have installed on my pc ssd disk ... how can get the original licenseThanks

A:Windows 10 license

Hi Paul,Could you be more specific?Did your notebook come with retail version of Windows 10 media along with it's activation key?Or did your laptop come pre installed with Windows 10 from factory? And now you're clean installing windows 10 again on SSD?Or did you upgrade install Windows 10 previously, and did a clean install again? In the last two scenarios, Windows 10 activation will be automatically done via Microsoft servers while connected to internet; provided you install the exact same version of Windows 10 as it was before. What are you trying to do with SSD? Did it come in your laptop from factory?RegardsVisruth

Hello:

I have a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits installed on a laptop but I want to format it and reinstall everything again.

The back of the laptop has a product key number but when I run Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder it gives me a different key.

Anyone knows why this 2 different keys?

Which one should I use when reinstalling Windows?

Thanks

I have an inspiron 6400 - it's a pretty old machine, remember - with "Windows 7 Home" license on it's backside.

I have installed both W7 home premium and basic, but it does not take the key.

DO I need some kind of older W7 Home "plain"? Perhaps it's so old that it won't take this license either way?

A:How to get my windows 8 license key

To upgrade your Lenovo W540 from Windows 7 to Windows 8, you first need to check whether your laptop is compatible with Windows 8. You can check this by referring to the "Check your PC" section on the following Microsoft Support page:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows-8/upgrade-from-windows-7-tutorial Once you are sure that your laptop is compatible with Windows 8, you need to buy a licensed copy of Windows 8. To know how to buy one, refer to "Buy Windows 8.1" section on the Microsoft Support page mentioned above. Once you have bought a licensed copy, refer to "Start the upgrade" and other relevant sections on the Microsoft Support page mentioned above. Hope this will resolve your issue.

Once I replace the hard drive in my Laptop, I have a Windows 10 ISO DVD to install Windows. Microsoft requires that I provide the license  key for Windows 8 that came with the laptop to provide free upgrade to Windows 10. Where do I find the License key for the Windows 8 that came with the HP Laptop. It is currently upgraded to Windows 10, and current hard drive is working fine. I want to replace it with a SSD and clean install of Windows 10

A:License key for Windows 8

Hi: If you have already upgraded to W10, and it has been successfully activated, all you need to do is to clean install W10 using the installation media you created. When you get to the install screen, you will be prompted to enter a product key or given a choice to click on "I don't have a product key." You select the "I don't have a product key" option and W10 will install and automatically reactivate since it was previously legally installed on your notebook. I've had to do it on a couple of PC's where I reinstalled W10--both when I changed the mechanical hard drives to SSD's.

Hi: Microsoft does not allow PC manufacturers such as HP to offer OEM operating systems for download. They have to put the operating systems on physical media. HP sells recovery media for your PC. http://support.hp.com/us-en/mediaorder/HP-Pavilion-dv7-6100-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/5082216... This site claims to have genuine Microsoft ISO files to download.  You can read their statement regarding how they access the files... If your PC has the W7 product key on the case, and you can read all 25 characters of the W7 product key, you can make your own plain W7 installation media on DVD and try that... https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/67-microsoft-windows-iso-download-tool Click on the link labeled Windows ISO Downloader.exe You can use either the:  Win 7 Home/Pro SP1 (as applicable) or the (Retail version, but the OEM key on your PC's case should work with it)  Win 7 Home/Pro SP1 (as applicable) COEM (This version would be for what HP would have used--System Builder) N is for European Union countries. K is for South Korean markets. Then you can use this tool to transfer the file to a 4 GB USB flash drive or a DVD. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/windows-usb-dvd-download-tool
