Bios Update fails on Lenovo B50-80

Q: Bios Update fails on Lenovo B50-80

Update Utility downloaded from Support Page (Version 3.07) offers updating from version 3.0 to 3.06, finishes fast and reboots. But version not changed.Used Windows 10. EFI NVRAM area seems to be filled up, Disabling secure boot/or some other options do not work reliable. EFI utility does not allow changing variables (Ubuntu the same). Defaulting bios options the same. Altering Date working.Would recovering the windows installation clean up the EFI NVRAM area? Best regardsPeter PS: using Ubuntu most of the time, tools altering the EFI NVRAM area are failing, updates failing now, and also booting from USB stopped working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I was wondering if you could help me, I want to upgrade the BIOS of the L560 from 1.18 to 1.43. Each time I try this, it boots into the bios system, I select bios update and follow the steps until the screen says that it will reboot, but it never does. (see screenshot) Frozen at this screenAfter hours of waiting, trying to long press (20 sec) the power button shuts down the computer. Afterwards the computer boots but displays "Secure Flash Authentication failed!"After forced rebootAfter that I have to long press (20 sec) the power button again to restart the computer and it boots back into the 1.18 (I have also tried to update to version 1.22 or 1.17 (downgrade), with the same results)And also tried to "upgrade" to the same version 1.18 as well, which doesn't work because the system says that there is no new version. Do you have any tips how to upgrade the BIOS on the L560? Kind RegardsOlaf

So, earlier today, everything was fine. My computer was working normally nothing was acting up. While unplugging my laptop from the wall I dropped it, but nothing appeared to be wrong. A little while later I restarted my computer and it worked fine for about a minute and then everything froze in windows explorer, nothing would work, folders wont open task manager never appears start menu wont come up, nothing.
I booted into safe mode and everything works fine through there, so I looked around online and one suggestion was to update my BIOS so I tried to update from Dells Inspiron 1420 A08 to the newer A10 BIOS version, trying that in safe mode failed so I tried to boot normally and quickly do whatever it told me, when I tried it wouldnt restart (and still refuses too, I have to shut it down manually outside of safe mode) it said it couldnt update the BIOS version because it couldnt locate the image, but I downloaded it directly from Dells own website.
So then I tried to do a system restore, and I got the message:

The disk Vista (c:) has errors
Windows detected file system corruption on Vista (c:)
You must check the disk for errors before it can be restored.

So I clicked scan and fix, and nothing happens. (this is back in safe mode by the way) so I opened a command promp and typed sfc /scannow
and it scanned and found some errors but were unable to fix them. Details are located in the CBS.log
So I opened the log and I found the following:

Hi, the first rule if you ever drop a laptop (and it appears OK) is to take the battery out, boot from the mains if all is OK turn off add battery and reboot. Now you may have damaged the MB and or the RAM seating or HDD cable connection as well as the monitor connect cable.. etc ...etc. You can see where this is heading to the shop would be my advice.

My Samsung series 3 laptop has been sending out popup messages telling me I need a bios update, I go to the Samsung software update site and this bios update has been failing, I have made several calls and chats to techs at Samsung who tell me to do what I have already done, they tell to ask for tier 2 tech, who can go in my computer and fix it , When I finally got a tier 2 tech, they told me the same thing, I told him what I had been told about him and what he could do, He said, is it working , I said yes, but settings on computer change on their own, like wifi turns itself on and that concerns me. Anyway, He said that it didn't need a bios update, even the Samsung website said this computer needed a bios update. I posted this on hardware, firmware concerns, and they told me to post here, I was going to go to a site ,that had a download that checked drivers, I was told to stay away from this.

Thanks,

BIOS updates to my ThinkPad T460p seem to have been fine, up until going from 2.19 to 2.20.  Upon trying to upgrade to 2.20, I get the following message:  I cannot boot from USB key, I get the same issue.  This includes attempting with an older BIOS like 2.18; the same error message occurs even when not in Windows. Is there a way to force-flash the BIOS to get it back on track or is there some option I can try?  I only have a few remaining days left on my warranty, so I don't have much time left to open a support case if there's nothing else I can do other than replace the mainboard.

A:T460p BIOS update fails; "The BIOS does not match this system"

Call support.  Whatever happens, you should get the issue documented while the system is under warranty.  In U.S., the number is 1-800-426-7378

Hi, HP Support Assistant shows there is a BIOS update available for my HP 15 laptop (F.28Ap1). But even though everything seems to run fine, the BIOS is still showing the old BIOS version, F.23. I have also tried running the BIOS update .exe file directly on my laptop. And even though the update looks like it runs successfully, the reboot that happens from running the .exe takes the normal amount of time as any other normal reboot, and the BIOS version is not changed. Current BIOS version: Insyde F.23, 08/05/2015Current OS version: Win 10 Home 64-bit (Version 1511; OS Build 10586, 494) Attempted BIOS updates:-----------------------------1) F.25        sp73235.exe2) F.28        sp76361.exe Neither of the BIOS update .exe files I've listed above are updating my BIOS version, when I run them, and my BIOS version remains at F.23, even though both .exe files appear to run successfully, except that the reboot time takes the same amount of time as usual, suggesting that during the reboot, nothing is being done to try to update the FW in the flash. Thanks!

A:BIOS Update Fails on HP 15

The latest BIOS version available for your notebook is actually version F.29 (Rev A). You can download it from this link. I would download/save that file to your computer.  Then, before you run it I would suggest performing a hard reset: To Perform A Hard Reset Shut down the computer by going to the Start menu and selecting shut down. (If you have no display, hold the power button down for  5 seconds); (if the computer doesn't power on, move to the next step)Disconnect the AC Adapter from the notebook.Remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook.  There will be a switch/button to eject the battery.Wait at least 1 minute with all power sources disconnected.Re-insert the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter and then attempt to power on the notebook.Once you've done the hard reset, update the BIOS by running the file you downloaded earlier.  Once the BIOS update is complete, check to see if it shows the new version (you can see this in the System Information utility).

I have a motherboard from Intel D915gvwb with the intel 915 express family chipset.
When new I had bios WB91X10J.388 then shortly afterwards I upgraded to the now persistant WB91X10J.0400.2004.0922.0935 which I now seem unable to upgrade any further.

I have used all methods from express, Iflash and recovery. Have tried all versions from 388 to 1307 and 1319.
removed the bios jumper and remover the battery but still I cannot change the Bios.

Is it me!! or can anyne help I am stuck.

There is only one clue I can give in that when using the Iflash method the screen gives a message that it cannot access and update the CMOS it does seem to be locked in.

I also cannot find the Bios version 0400 to see what that did exactly.

Any help appreciated.

A:Bios update fails all ways

As you probably know, the next version listed after 0388 is 0735 and under its Release Notes it states:

"Known Errata:
? When using IFlash to update from version WB0665 or earlier to version WB0690 or greater, you must use the ?/rb? command line switch to successfully update the FIOS. The ?/rb? command forces system restart during flash update process."

I'm not familiar with IFlash so I'm not sure what it means but there it is. I hope it helps.

Hello everyone! I ama new user and i am coming up with this post as I couldn`t find any kind of solution for my problem.Recently I decided to do a reinstallation of my operating system, which also previously was Windows 7 Ultimate (x64). The installation went as usual, and after finishing it I went on to install all the latest drivers from the Lenovo site, for my product. When getting close to installing almost all the drivers i`ve needed, i stumbled upon a new version of the BIOS amnd the drivers and sfotware recommended for my laptop, by the producer. So i proceeded to install the upgrade, restarted the computer when it prompted me to do so, but after the so-called restart the laptop did not boot up as usual. At first it was telling me to not do anything as the BIOS is being flashed and then it was telling me something about some sort of image processing, things that i did not understand at the time (i have never encountered anything like that). After that my screen turned black. I have not done anything for a few couple of minutes as i thought it was supposed to be like that, but then i just force shut it down and unplugged the AC adapter. When trying to boot it all up again, the only thing i got was a black screen and nothing else. After doing a little bit of research it appears that, somehowm i`ve managed to corrupt the bios on my laptop or something, and nothing else would work at this point. I tried to remove the BIOS battery and the ram and then put them all back, trye... Read more

I?m currently updating the BIOS of some Lenovo ThinkCentre M83 PCs and I came across a problem. The Flash UEFI BIOS update (provide by Lenovo) worked almost perfectly on the first PCs, despite it didn?t automatically open the console and started the flashing process.Anyways I did go on with my work. Almost all other PCs had the problem that when the second phase (yellow font)/ afudos.exe imagefb.rom /defans /capsule /b /n /r /sp started the afuwin.exe stopped working (it crashed). It seemed like the Update wouldn?t get done this way so I decided to try it with the USB Flash method, also provided by Lenovo, but it also didn?t work. Hello,Today I tried to update my notebook from within Windows 10 to the new version 2.37. After the setup finished, it said It'll reboot now. And then the computer shut down, not rebooted. When I then powered it up again, Thinkpad screen stayed on longer than usual, then it rebooted back to Windows. However I noticed then that the BIOS has not been updated, because that only happens during reboot, not shut down. When I checked my version number I noticed that the previous update (to 2.36) has also not been installed, the BIOS was still on 2.34, so I suspect the same thing happend last time too. I could force the update to install by manually rebooting at the end of the setup (without closing the window) but I could imagine that the same thing happened to other people too and they think they have installed the newest version while it's still an old one.

Hi. I have a Lenovo B50-30 mode 80ES. It was set to require a password on startup starting with a capital "A". While experiencing charging problems, amongst other things, I updated the BIOS to 9CCN35WW, downloaded from the Lenovo support site. Since updating, the laptop no longer asks for a password on startup (No big deal, I applied a windows password), however, when pressing F2 to access the BIOS (which I need to do, the F keys are the wrong way round), it asks for a password, When pressing to strike a capital A, the laptop beeps and doesnt enter it. It wont accept capital letters anymore, therefore it wont accept the pre BIOS update password. I have referred the laptop to Lenovo service, including returning the laptop, and they have been nothing short of useless. They said they couldnt repair it under warranty because of "Marks, cracks, inappropriate treatment" and it would cost 255 for a replacement system board. I really couldnt see why I should pay for an issue created by their support system, so I asked them to return it unrepaired. Upon arrival, the laptop was immaculate, so I dont know what damage they were referring to. Is it possible to downgrade the BIOS to a pre update revision, to change the password and then reset it to one the new BIOS approves of? Thankyou in advance.

We're planning to push BIOS updates to all our systems in the near future. However, in testing we've noticed that some systems will fail installation with error code 211. The problem seems to be related to a changed BIOS logo, since when ran manually, the updater asks if it should overwrite the existing logo or keep it. This seems to cause problems when you run the BIOS update executable "winuptp64.exe" with the "-s" (silent) argument. Is there a solution to this, like an argument that forces overwriting of logo or keep existing? Full error log:[2018/1/24 11:40:47] version 25.26

It's more likely you're going to need to build a bootable flash drive with an earlier version of Windows to get the flash to work -- Windows 10 is not supported on this model, so it's very likely the flash installer won't run under 10 regardless of which version you're trying to flash.
Rufus is one easy way to make a bootable flash drive that will allow the flash to work.

We performed an update marked critical on 8-12-2018.  Bios update failed, message was about flash failures.  It then said press any key to continue.  After that we got only a black screen, it never did anything else.  We tried power off and also tried power off and remove battery procedures.  We now get flashing keyboard backlight (3-5 times) and a click/ pop noise.  Also F1, F4, and Fn keys light at same time.  We have also tried removing battery and just using power supply.  We get the same results.  Does anyone have experience with this or ideas?

Windows 10 has been running fine for some time, but attempt to update to Anniversary fails. The update runs fine until the point after restart where it states "The machine will restart several times"; soon into that sequence when  attempting a restart, the machine switches itself off instead. When I then switch it back on manually, the update is lost and the system resets itself to the previous Windows version.A Microsoft technician worked for hours before concluding that I would have to do a full, clean WIndows 10 installation, after which all files and applications would be lost and needed to be reinstalled. I have been wondering if the faulty restart behaviour is related to the BIOS somehow, and I have had it reinstalled from HPs site with no change. So, my questions areCan BIOS be the cause? Btw, I have turned the fast restart option (under power schemes) off.I note that I got a "legacy" BIOS installed. Is UEFI available for this laptop, and would that make a difference? If I do install UEFI, will Windows 10 and applications run as before or could other issues arise?

Hello Community, I have to upgrade an Lenovo G505s with Windows 8.1.  I downloaded the bios from here :https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/winflash(3.00).exeThe Update process should be very simple but I have an issue. I am strating the application and the laptop retarts as expected and then the message comes up 'invalid firmware image' (Screenshot attached) but to be honest it is definetly a Lenovo G505s and is is the designated file from Lenovo. What could be the reason for it? Best Regards,Uwe

Hi,
I have a new XPS 13 (Service tag 64K2KC2 ePSA Build 4304.07) that I have only had since the 16th of this month.
All has been fine until a couple of hours ago. A Dell message popped on the lower right hand corner to of the screen to tell me there was a Dell bios update. I selected to install the bios update and now the laptop will not boot.
I get the Dell logo and then a plain blue screen.
Any ideas how to recover the system?

Thanks,

Richard

Since applying the updates last weekend I am experiencing a most curious problem.  I have a T550 CK with a pro dock.  When the laptop is docked with the lid open, everything works perfectly, BUT with the lid closed it will not start or restart.  Does anyone have any ideas what to do to fix this?

Hello,I have a Lenovo Thinkpad W540 which is out of warranty.  While using the Lenovo System Update utility to update the BIOS, the BIOS update failed, and now my W540 will no longer boot.  Is there a way to restore the BIOS without replacing the system board? Is there a place where can I download the BIOS file (not only the upgrade utility)? Thank you!
