Lenovo Y50-70 High Preference Power / flickering display problem

Q: Lenovo Y50-70 High Preference Power / flickering display problem

Hi, After reinstalling windows on my y50-70, I can't seem to find a High Preference Power plan and that seems to cause a problem with my display, it starts to flicker and drop fps in games. I believe the problem acquired since I don't have my power driver instaled properly or there is another falt. I have reinstalled all the graphics, power management and intel drivers. It helped slightly after I played around with: Power options -> Advanced setting -> Processor power Management -> Max processor state -> 99% (both settings from 100%). I looked it up on another topic with a flickering screen. Also in BIOS, I have changed NVIDIA GPU to be disabled. Please help me solve this problem with a flickering screen (both in game and desktop) and fps drops. Specs: Proccesor: i5 2.9Ram: 8gbGraphics: Nvidia 960m 4gb Thank you!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I'm thoroughly enjoying my X1Y3, but one niggle is that the Intel Graphics Settings (access via right-click on desktop) keeps forgetting my preference of having their power saving option off.  The setting "Display Power Saving Technology" drops the contrast when nothing bright is on screen, and it makes the screen look washed out or drab. Opening a bright window (e.g. an empty Notepad.exe window) will slowly boost the contrast again. I dislike this behavior(how much power does this even save..) so I always disable it.  The problem, it seems like after a reboot the Intel Power Saving preference is lost. To fix it I go back into the settings app, set it to on, save the setting, set it to off, and save the setting again. Not the not the end of the world, but it would be nice if this could be fixed.

I am replacing a broken laptop display for someone and this option came up: do I want a Matte or Glossy screen?

To be honest I never noticed the difference before!

But I now know that my desktop monitor is a Matte screen, and all the laptops here are Glossy. There are obvious and subtle differences.

And apparently quite the debate on the interwebs!

So which do you guys prefer? Matte or Glossy? Why?

A:PC Display Screen Preference: Matte or Glossy?

The matte display is more versitile (suitable for many different circumstances). Definately need an antiglare (matte) screen for a laptop since it is generally used in so many various locations. Glare on a laptop screen can be a significant problem.

I would highly appreciate if somebody could help me out with a problem I am facing after the latest Fall Creators Update (1709) for Windows 10. Once the laptop has started up and all programs have loaded another type of flickering occurs with vertical lines purple/red like colored. On the top right corner of my screen I see a small horizonal white line flickering with intervals of 10 to 60 seconds.   The desktop flickering stops whenever:I run a Command PromptI boot up in save modeI disable Intel GraphicsI connect my laptop to my TVI play a game This Lenovo laptop has had a flickering issue from the beginning, but with time, actualizations and updates the flickering practically disappeared. Hello,

I bought my Dell XPS 13 laptop (L321X) in December of 2012.  Beginning in the middle of 2013, I began experiencing my display screen suddenly become scrambled. I am attaching a photo of what happens.  I did not think anything of it at first, and honestly it would happen maybe once a month.  I figured it was maybe that I had the laptop on my lap and it was getting overheated.  In any event, I didn't think much of it.
Since the beginning of this year, I saw that it started doing it more frequently.  Within the last month, it has been happening more and more frequently, to the point that it is disrupting my use of the laptop.  I absolutely LOVE the laptop, with the exception of this one issue.  Can anyone please help me understand what seems to be the issue with the display problem?
I have not yet tried connecting the laptop to an external monitor to see if the issue is with my video drive or screen.  It's just difficult to attach it to an external monitor in time when the problem starts, because the scrambling goes away within 20-30 seconds.

A:Dell XPS 13 Display Screen Scrambling/Flickering Problem

Hi all, I originally posted this message a few months ago.  I never received any positive suggestions or resolutions to the problem, so I did what I naturally do when I am out of options.  I reformated my entire hard drive, and re-installed windows and all drivers from scratch.

Poof!  Problem gone!  Hasn't happened for the past several months.  I guess there was a glitch in the version of the BIOS or display drivers.  I recommend others try this--it worked for me and I am back in love with the XPS.
Good luck!

Hello,I was hoping somebody could help me diagnose what I suspect may be an LCD problem.I have had my Lenovo G710 for around two and a half years now, and in terms of speed, reliability etc. it has worked perfectly, in part due to me upgrading the RAM and HDD to an SSD around a year ago.Over the past 3-4 months, I've been experiencing a strange pink/green flickering when I wake the laptop up from sleep/standby, or when I turn the screen back on when it has switched itself off due to being on battery. To use the below images to illustrate, what happens is the screen starts at Image 1, stays this way for 5-10 seconds, then moves to Image 2, and then the Green slowly moves down the laptop until it reaches the taskbar, at which time the screen then reverts to normal. All in all, the 'problem' lasts for around 30 seconds.Image 1: http://i.imgur.com/u8fSp88.jpgImage 2: http://i.imgur.com/MxHjZcE.jpgIt is probably important that, unlike some other threads I have seen on the Lenovo forum and elsewhere, this does not happen if I am actively using the laptop. I can use it for 4-6 hours on end and it will be perfectly fine. However, as soon as I leave it inactive long enough for the screen to go off (or when I enter standby), this will happen on every occasion.Ultimately, it's not the end of the world, because as I mentioned above, it only lasts for about 30 seconds, and then I can use it as normal, but obviously I'd rather fix this if I can.I don't think this is a software problem... I have a requirement to setup a default power profile for a client in such a way that the users should be able to modify the settings within the profile, as per their needs, without admin rights.

The issue was that initially the power profile was setup and managed by SCCM's Power Management component, which locked the power settings and did not allow any users to modify it. At the moment the Power Management via SCCM has been turned off and a user preference
GPO has been applied to setup a default power profile for all the users; the GPO applies successfully and configures the default power profile, however the end users are still unable to modify the power profile on Windows 7. It still shows locked down for
modification even though the new Power Profile is setup and selected as the active one. I have tried it via a Computer based Preference GPO as well, but no luck. I have also tried removing all the policies that configure the power profiles and I'm sure that
SCCM's Power Management is disabled. I'm also sure that there are no other policies that configure any power settings.

This has worked out for another client though, the power profile has been setup as a User based preference GPO and the users are able to modify it as they please. The only difference with this client is that initially SCCM managed the power settings via the
Power Management component.

How shall I proceed with trying to resolve this issue and setup a power profile via a GPO that ... Read more

I have a Lenovo y50-70, which I had for about 1-2 years until my screen started to flicker, so I sent it to Lenovo for reparation. Then when I got it back, it was new and the screen was fixed... until ½ year later.  My screen started to flicker AGAIN, but this time it was on a specific angle when you open/close screen. It was worse than before, because sometimes it goes into black screen, and you can't see anything unless you have placed it in the correct angle. Since my warranty expired, I decided to open up the screen using YouTube videos and pictures. I then realized there was a certain part where the screen wire doesn't look the same as mine.  It was because the screen wire was under the screw, which pressured the wire to flicker whenever the screen moves up or down...  WrongRight As you can see, on the right side, the screen is NOT under the screw. However, the left side (screen wire) is placed under the screw, which I found out was not the right way to place it.  I found a picture online where the wire is placed a bit over, so the screw could not pressure the wire making the flickering and black screen. Correct screen wire placement:Screen wire I thought a repair would fix a laptop and thereby extend its lifetime somewhat, but ironically it did the opposite. It's a matter of time I will get a black screen...  I don't know if this is on purpose or not, but I read so many of these "lenovo y50-70 screen flic... Read more

I do not understand why this happens because it only just started happening a couple of months ago. At first I thought the website was having some difficulties but obviously that is not the case! It only seems to happen on this website as well, for some strange reason.Just in case you need to know, my computer is using Windows 98 and IE 7.Thanks in advance for any help, it will be appreciated!

My mouse (the pointer on the screen) has been flickering a lot lately. I think I've discovered that the flickering pointer corresponds with running AutoCAD 2005. With AutoCAD running, I opened Task Manager and my CPU usage hovers around 45%, even when AutoCAD is sitting idle (not processing a command). When I close AutoCAD, CPU usage drops to about 5-8% with a couple of other apps running (Outlook, IE). The AutoCAD correlation makes sense because I installed it a few months ago, which is when the flickering pointer started. I'm not sure if this question should be in the OS forum, or maybe hardware or applications, but I thought I'd start here.

My computer:
Windows 2000 Service Pack 4
Pentium 4 - 2.66 GHz
524 MB RAM

Any ideas on how to reduce CPU usage with this program? My co-workers are using computers with the same operating specs, yet do not have this problem with AutoCAD 2005.

Thanks!

Hi Realcoder,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

Did you have a chance to test the laptop with an external monitor attached to the VGA port? Can you get video on the external monitor?

First of all, I would check memory modules. It?s possible that one of the modules failed. 1. Try reconnecting memory modules. Remove them from the motherboard and install back in. 2. Test your laptop with each module installed separately. If one of them is faulty, the laptop will start when the bad module is removed.
Also, check the connectors inside to see if any have come loose.

This Maintenance Manual should guide on how to get into the memory modules.

Regards,
Shashi

Just had exactly this same problem from last night on my wife's x131e. I've tried updating the bios and uninstalling display drivers so far. I'll try re-installing the intel display drivers tonight. The maximum resolution available seems to be 640x480 so I'm wondering whether there is a problem with the display drivers. The fact that the same issue has happened with 2 laptops days apart makes me think it could be related to some sort of windows update. If not I guess the most likely problem is the motherboard or display cable. Let me know if you manage to fix it!

I have a WLI- CB HP 54 Buffalo wireless network card and it is supposed to reach further than regular wireless G cards, but my internal wirelesss on my laptop spans MUCH further.

I am using Windows XP SP2 and installed the driver and software about 3 times. I have found that windows configures it better than the software that came.

My question are a couple.. First. when i go and set up wireless zero configuration service to automatic, it keeps going off the next time i restart and when i search for networks it says "make sure your switch is turned on " .......

I called Buffalo and they said that it was my internal PCI adapter interferring with it. It is an A/B internal card. Within close range, the wireless card works fine.
I also wanted to know if there are dangers of having my internal A/B card and a wireless G card running at the same time.

Also the Buffalo says it is B/G, but doesn't pick up B networks well.

Thank you for your help.

A:Buffalo High Power Card Not high powered

Is your router A, B, or G? Also, I can't think of any danger, per se, of running both cards. This is a process called Multi-homing. If you plug in a LAN cable, you'll actually have 3 network connections, 3 IP Addresses, etc. Some apps may get confused & blow up, otherwise you're just using some resources unnecessarily. If it was me, I'd turn off the internal card if I had a G card I'd rather use...

Hi All,

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad X200 (model: 7459-VZ9) with a docking station. This connects to my Samsung 2693HM display via VGA (no DVI available on the laptop or docking station). The native screen resolution on the laptop monitor is 1280x800, but when docked I would to use 1920x1200 on the 2693HM. This doesn?t work however: even though 1920x1200 is available in the list of resolutions (and listed as recommended), when I select it I get a weirdly distorted output ? only about the top 1/3 of the screen and 6/8 of the width is shown all stretched and distorted. What can cause this problem, and can it be solved? Is it the 2693HM, the X200, the cable, ?

The 2693HM shows perfect 1920x1200 when connected by DVI to my desktop PC.
I can show up to 1680x1050 from the X200 without problems.
Latest display drivers from Lenovo are installed, and the screen is recognized as ?2693HM (analog)?.

Specs:
Lenovo ThinkPad X200 (model: 7459-VZ9)
Intel Core Duo 2 P8400 @ 2.26 GHz processor
2 GB RAM
500 GB HDD
Onboard Intel 4500MHD (mobile Intel® GM45 Express chipset)

Thanks for any advice or help!

I teach computer applications at a private school. We just purchased 6 Lenovo A600 all-in-ones to use for our yearbook class. We wiped them and installed Windows XP SP3, Office 2007, InDesign and Photoshop CS3, etc.

These computers came with Windows Vista Home and were not configureable (i.e. we could not get any hardware or software changed at the factory). However, when I installed Windows XP, I was able to get drivers for XP from the the Lenovo website. All of the worked except for the Intel(R) GMA driver for the display. Although I installed the driver, the computer won't recognize the screen and let me change the resolution to 1900 x 1080. Instead it uses a default 1024 x 768 setting.

How can I fix the drivers so that the screen will display properly?

Installed intel set up tool (Could enter the high resolution manually here as personal setting, but does not work either) Nothing helped :-( screent stays on 1920 x 1080 :-( This 27" screen was running connected to a MacBook Pro without any problem in max. resolution 2560 x 1440 before.  Due to my research the Intel HD 5300 should be able to handle 2560 x 1440. Looking forward to helpful repliesDennis

Last year I bought a Pavilion 15 notebook, until yesterday everything worked fine. But recently my display brightens and dims for a few seconds and then sometimes go back to normal. I noticed when I push on the back of my display the colors turn to normal values. But when I release it all the colors are really bright. All my drivers are up to date. Any solutions for this? Is there a problem with my laptop?

Hello all

I wasn't to sure where to post this particular thread. Please excuse me...

Since January of 2014 I have been having an issue with the display. I'm not to sure how to describe this one, because I have never came across anything like it before. But from the bottom of the screen, there seems to be a flickering of some sort..I do have a video that I have uploaded. The quality is not at it's best, so please excuse that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJVC...ature=youtu.be

The video card that I have is a GeForce GTX 780. Current, Driver version 340.52. Now this will happen only when the computer has been turned off for about 6/7 hours. It doesn't always happen every-time, but when it does, it will continue to flicker until' I reboot. Sometimes it even takes 3/4 reboots to make it stop. Or it will settle down eventually give Or take 3 to 6 minutes on it's own accord. I just want to add that I hardly had any problem during the months of April and August. From in-between those months it use to happen, maybe once a month, if that. Which leads me to believe that it's the drivers that are at fault?

I use my computer during the day for work purposes as well as pleasure. Games, Browsing the net. But I have never experienced any of the flickering at the bottom of the screen during the day and the late evening if that makes any sense?

Thank you all for any input

I bought pavilion au003 tx on 12 aug 2016. Since the day after it has the issue of display flickering randomnly. I have complained about it many times and the issue has not been resolved yet. They also changed the cable after my complaint but the problem still persists. Whether it's a software or hardware issue, hp support has not been able to identify it and I am really disgusted.I have uninstalled and reinstalled the updated versions many times as per their advice. I'd be glad to hear solutions.

Hi everyone, I need some suggestion with my problem. I am facing this problem from nearly a month. The problem is that sometime my laptop does not charge the battery even if it is pluged in. During those time i can only use my laptop untill my battery charge lasts. Which is normally 2 to 4 hour depending on the nature of the work. The only solution to fix this problem is to remove the battery and replacing it and hope for the best. Sometimes just one time doing this solves the problem and battery starts to charge again. However, sometime the process (bettery removal and reattachment) have to be done 5 to 6 time to do the trick. Please also note that if i remove the battery and directly connect the charger there is no problem and i can work. But here we face very frequent power cut so this process is not very benificial.  I believe something is loose in the battery compartment and thats why the bettery does not charge sometime and does sometime. Please let me know what i can do to fix the problem. The laptop is under warrenty but i am not sure if this kind of problem is covered under warrenty.  With regardsGKS

A:Power supply problem in lenovo B40-70

This may be due to a loose connection on the battery, or on the socket it locks into.  Either way - if under warranty I would suggest calling the support line and getting it fixed ASAP... That is the only way to be sure.

Good luck.

A:Power problem with lenovo c320

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Your model does not have any customer servicable fuses.  If you have a voltmeter available I would suggest you test the power adapter to see that it is outputting the required voltage to the computer.  The adapter will have a label on it that lists its specifications.

If the adapter checks out Ok then next try clearing the CMOS by doing this......
1. Unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 3. Plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

If neither suggestion above corrects the problem and your have an active warranty then I would recommend you contact Lenovo Support for warranty service.

If warranty is no longer an issue then try removng the hard drive, optical drive and memory to see if the system will attempt to power up.  If it does then replace a hardware item starting with the memory one at a time until the no boot scenario returns.  If the no boot returns then suspect the last item install as being the problem.   With all the hardware items removed if there is no change or attempt in the way the computer starts up then suspect it is a motherboard problem then needs additional service from Lenovo Support.  The link below is for a Hardware Removal Guide for your mo... Hello, my loved lenovo flex 2 does not power on. The power indication blinks two times fast if plug in the power supply. Afterwards it starts blinking continously slow with a period of around 4 seconds. If i unplug the power supply its completely dead. If i do a hard reset i can hear the fan for 2 seconds but nothing happens. I tested the power supply but its working with 20.35 V. It tested an new power pack and charged it overnight but it does not power on. Any idea what the blinking means? thanks.  Yours Emanuel

Hello!1. I think that I need a faster HDD for my games and for that I want to buy another HDD, with 7200 rpm. The only problem is that my current HDD, WD Blue WD10SPCX 1TB 5400 RPM, is a thin one version (7mm). I want to buy a faster one, but I only find 9.5 mm versions. Can a 9.5mm hard drive fit into this laptop? 2. An other problem with my laptop: from time to time, my display blinks. I have to move the screen to stop it. Has anyone ever met this problem?

My Lenove G560 has this unusual problem. When I turn it on my screen is divided into 4 sections, all showing the same thing. I tried downloading and installing the latest Intel HD graphics drivers and it still doesn't help. I checked my display frequency and it is set to 60Hz and my color depth is still 32 bits. The only thing that has changed is my screen resolution to 800 x 600.

Any ideas on why this is happening?
