Q: {Duplicate} Is Microsoft Outlook Express for protecting the VBS file

Hi,

Is Microsoft Outlook Express put the patch on the Outlook Expree E-mail for blocking the VBS file? There's a regular Outlook e-mail that has a patch if the people download it for blocking the VBS file.or When will Microsoft put the patch on the outlook express soon?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Bob the best antivirus Attachment protector is yourself, don't open it if you are unsure of it's origins. Saying that, the I Love You Bug certainly had it's own appeal. I was bitten as it had a coworkers name on it who certainly wasn't in love with me, so I wanted to know why... Ten minutes later we all knew something was up.

There is a simple way to view attachments without opening them. Hit Ctrl+F3 and a message source box will open, scroll down and if you see code then it is advisable to delete the entire e-mail. Shift+Delete.

Now, there is another way to transmit a virus and it is through a Signature. The Kak worm is successfully doing that. I was protected the other night from viewing that Signature while in Outlook Express, a prompt came up asking if I wanted to run an activeX component not marked as safe. Being a bit more cautious with my own computer I said no and was rewarded with the reason. The poster was complaining about a signature being added that was calling for a kak.htm file. I also hit Ctrl+F3 and scrolling down the message source, I could read the entire code for the Kak virus. I'm using OE 6 with gmail in Windows XP. I had to repair an installation of Windows XP and set up OE all over again. For some reason I can't get it the way it used to be: Click on the OE Icon, choose a name, and enter the password. Now when I click on OE, I go directly to my account. A box asking for my password comes up, but you can click cancel and look at any of my folders, including my inbox. An error message comes up when I do this, but I can still read my emails. Am I doing something wrong, or is my OE corrupt?

A:Trouble password protecting Outlook Express

Look at Account Setup in OE. Sounds like your user/password was saved, which is the default. If you clear the fields for User & Password, the dialog you seek should open when starting OE.

But note, that your LOCAL OE folders are always available after you logon to your system, you just cannot send/receive until you logon to your Mail Account.

Title says it all. Duplicate emails from some - not all - senders.
How canii fix this annoying problem?

A:Receiving duplicate emails in Outlook Express 6

If it's only happening with some, not all, messages, it points to a problem with the senders email provider, not yours. If it was a problem with either your email client software or your email provider, every message would be duplicated.

I have one particular contact who emails me and it always arrives twice in my mailbox. I've ascertained that the same thing happens with other people that he sends messages to, so it's evidently a problem at his end.

I have had to use WinXP's "File Settings & transfer Wizard" several times over the last few years, and every single time I do so, all the messages in Outlook Express get duplicated.

So now I have hundreds (maybe thousands) of duplicated messages.

And I only need just one copy. Really, one is enough.

I've Googled quite a bit and cannot find a free/trial/shareware utility that will do this. It seems like it should be a fairly common problem, but for some reason I am unable to find a utility to fix the problem.

Any suggestions would be appreciated & thanks in advance,

George

Also if you are getting your emails from a private server disable your AV firewall softwares mail scanning OFF. I used to use Outlook in my Xp Pro computer, but I didn't like it much , had TOO many features, so started using Outlook Express, it works quicker & is easier -I have my Hotmail in there, but it gives me identical DOUBLE emails every single time. I used this same hotmail in Outlook -so deleted that account and still get these Double emails in Outlook Express. I have heard of others with this problem, before. What is causing this, how to fix? Please help - if ANYONE knows or has suggestions !!

A:OUTLOOK EXPRESS -getting DOUBLE/Duplicate Emails --help

I just foung this info on the net by doign a search, and it worked... in case this helps anyone else out there. I disabled checking for new messages automaticaly.

If a POP3 mail account is configured to leave a copy of messages on the server (Tools, Accounts, [the account], Properties, Advanced), OE downloads the same messages during a send or receive session. Duplicate message will also be downloaded which can occur if the file Pop3uidl.dbx is corrupted. This file keeps track of which messages on the server have already been downloaded and should therefore be skipped on subsequent downloads, [Q216366] and [Q314578].

a. Deleting the file Pop3uidl.dbx and subsequently checking for mail creates a new rendition that should work properly.

Note: If duplicate messages are seen on a Hotmail or IMAP account, this solution will not work because those types of accounts do not use the file Pop3uidl.dbx

b. The anomaly happens in Hotmail or IMAP accounts if the default mail account and OE is configured to both open directly to the Inbox (which downloads headers automatically) and check for new messages when starting (which also downloads headers automatically).

c. To stop the duplicates, simply choose one option or the other, but not both. Remove the check mark for When starting, go directly to my 'Inbox' folder" or the check mark for Send and receive messages at startup [Tools, Options].

Note: If duplicates are already showing, click Tools, Synchronize Account or Synch... Read more

McAfee AV caused this situation. If you are running this AV software, get an updated version. If not, check to see if you are running any OL add-ins. This behavior happens with ill-behaved add-ins.

Hey ho...

I have a weird problem - or at least I think it is!

After I launch Outlook 2003, and use it for a few minutes a duplicate set of all my folders is created under "Archive Folders". The original set of folders remains under Personal Folders. If I exit Outlook and re-launch sometimes these folders remain, but sometimes after I exit then try to relaunch I get an "Operation failed" message. After clicking OK on that message, and try to relaunch I get the same "Operation failed" message; after clicking OK on that and relaunching I can access Outlook and the duplicate folders have disappeared, but they reappear very quickly.

Anyone a) know what is happening and b) how to fix the problem?

Generally Outlook IMHO sucks for these very reasons outlook is fine until you actually do more than 10 messages a day in it and want to actually try to use it to sort. But most businesses use it so most of us use it. Some of us never have problems with it, good for you guys, some of us have nothing but problems with it. NEVER EVER install Business Contact Manager! It uses a seperate database entirely and often loses it's mapping because from what I have seen it uses a service in your system that can get confused.

I would think that somehow your system has two databases it's reading and somehow at some point when you started an archive it creating the account again as... Read more

The answer to what Visual C++ versions are needed...depends on who installed them and why.

Since I don't download/install...anything other than critical updates...any version of Visual C++ on my system was either installed because it's a vital component of Windows...or some program I have installed requires it.

If you are one of those users who downloads/installs optional updates...then it may not be necessary/useful at all on your system.

gang I found an old post here that describes my situation, something I caused but don't know how to undo.
The system in question has Windows XP Professional, and MS Office 2000 Professional, the main reason for which is OUTLOOK. When Outlook cranks up it triggers an error message which is in my subject line:
"Outlook requires Microsoft Outlook Express 4.01 or greater....". The system of course also has OE6 on it which we don't use, but it does work etc.

The issue is me: I use autoruns to shut off everything non-mandatory, and, as another thread-poster identified, there is something in the list of goods that I have disabled that OE is dependent on, if I understand the old thread properly. The problem is that the poster [OP] in that thread said he found the key, but he didn't NAME THE ENTRIES
Thus, I dunno which ones he reversed that made the issue go away.

if anyone knows, pls let me know, so I can fix my goof.

thx

How do I make Microsoft Outlook the default email program? I make the change in IE version 5, but when I reboot the system (Win 98), Outlook Express is once again selected as the default email program.

I read in a previous post about using the following sequence for making Outlook Express the default. Is there anything similar for Microsoft Outlook? :

To make Outlook Express your default e-mail client:
Close OE, click Start/Run and enter this command line, complete with quotes, spaces and the /reg switch:

"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg

Hi,
Recently I have noticed my Dell Vostro laptop has been very slow in booting to a point where I can actually do something with any speed.

I had been reading various forums regarding the problem and the general consensus was that removing unnecessary start-up programs would assist. This I did, and included in it was the removal of Outlook Express as a start-up as I never use it.

I was rather startled to find that the next time I started up Outlook I get the message indicated in the title. When acknowledging the message, Outlook still opens and functions correctly as far as I can see, but this message always coming up is getting a little tedious.

Why would a company require the lesser of two programs to be loaded and started in order that their more powerful program should work? Amazing thought processes at MS.

I have seen answers for this question elsewhere and I have tried their solutions but to no avail. That includes setting IsInstalled in registry key 881dd1c5-3dcf-431b-b061-f3f88e8be88a to a Dword value of 1.

What I have found, is the key {44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C} and {7790769C-0471-11d2-AF11-00C04FA35D02} in registry directory HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\AutorunsDisabled. As the first refers to Outlook Express 6 and the other to Address Book 6 I assume that this may have something to do with my problem.

If they are the problem, is there a way of moving these keys out of AutorunsDisable and back into Instal... Read more

Use the "Import" feature of Outlook Express. if you choose to import "All" folders, it will include all messages and contacts data. or you can choose to import only contacts and not messages.

Obviously, it requires that both Outlook & Outlook Express are currently installed on the same PC.
Go here for a short tutorial: http://www.ehow.com/how_6374425_import-outlook-outlook-express.html

However, it must be pointed out that, for backup purposes, it's much easier to back up data in Outlook than is the case with Outlook Express.

I also installed AVG for her and have shut off the email plugin to see if that is part of the problem.

The thing is, it happened yesterday right after I installed these programs for her but then a minute later her email worked just fine. Now she just restarted her computer and the mail won't work again.

Is there something wrong with her computer or is it at the server?

It is possible and you can either export from the File menu in Outlook or import the same way using OE. However, if you already have problems, it may be that your data file is too big for Outlook to handle. Check this by opening My Computer and from the Tools menu, select Folder Options then View. Tick to "Show hidden files an dfolders" and untick "Hide protected system file and folders". Click Apply, accept the warning and OK your way out.

Next, navigate to Documents and Settings>{yourusername}Local Settings>Application Data>Microsoft>Outlook and if your Outlook Data File (type .pst) is larger than 2Gb, go back into Outlook and delete anything you can to trim it down.

Outlook Express will also suffer an overstuffed data file but if you can't do without your historic e-mails, Mozilla Thunderbird can handle up to 4Gb.

I have also attempted to copy the .mbx files in the applications data folder, but that did not work. There must be an easy way to backup/transfer email files. I need the how-to-instructions so that I may copy the appropriate files onto a CD. After a clean-install of win 98se, I plan to copy the email files into the new OUTLOOK EXPRESS program installed by win 98se.

How I do it is to create a backup folder in Outlook Express. File>New>Folder. Name it “Backup”. You can right click on any item and select move or copy to folder and send it to the backup folder. To back it up just copy the folder. I store all my important e-mails semi-permanently in the backup folder to keep my inbox clear.

There are several easy ways to find it so you can back it up. You can do a search for .dbx folders and just copy the backup folder from there.

You can go Tools>Options>Maintainance>Store folder. It will give you a path to the store folder. To restore a backup just paste your backup into that store folder. You have to create the backup folder in your new Outlook Express so you can overwrite it to restore. I change the location of the store folder to something I can find easily.

You could copy the entire store folder or just the inbox. It seems it would be easier to restore to a fresh Outlook Express by just pasting in the backup folder. All my important e-mails are there where I can easily access them and I don’t clutter up my new inbox.

I have a Dell desktop with the VISTA operation system. When using outlook express I receive this message everytime I send e-mail to the person below.

"Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.
The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'[email protected]' on 3/7/2007 2:42 PM
550 <[email protected]> No such user here"

The address is my secretaries and the domain is the same as mine. @ma-coc.org. The e-mail is correct. I have no problem with other e-mail addresses, Just this one. She can e-mail me but I can't e-mail her. No one else has a problem mailing her just since the purchased VISTA.
I also installed Mozilla Thunderbird an e-mail server and the problem still shows-up
Thanks

Hello All,

I was backing up all my e-mails and mistakenly changed all the files (DBX) to open with a XML Editor. How do I restore them all to the original file, the file that you can not open.

Second, after I reformat my drive (XP-Home), How do I "import" them back to my Microsoft Outlook Express ?

Thanks

I don't use microsoft's outlook because I don't care for it.... but in haste while right clicking to save a image, I have on occasion, clicked send to by accident. This starts a whirlwind of chaos for my computer and often will lock everything up. I know that esc should stop a macro, but in this case it does not. The macro tries to run and I am stuck waiting for windows to attempt to open my email program by opening 20 - 30 new windows! How do I over ride the window's attempt to use outlook and have it instead use my yahoo or aol email program? Or is there a way to disable send to all together?
Thank you for your help in this matter.

I am posting this for my 80 year old father. I visit him about once a week, so any responses to this request will probably not be seen by me for a week. (This may take a while to resolve).

Dad first started having problems with his Outlook Express being VERY slow about a month ago. He doesn't know what he may have done to cause this.

I am not a "techie" by any stretch of the imagination, but I searched around on some different forums and found what I believed to POSSIBLY be the answer. The instructions had something to do with MSN messenger, which may have inadvertently been installed when Dad upgraded to IE 7. The instructions said to do the following:

Re:Outlook Express SLOW at loading

Hi People...Name is Phil and i am noob (5 minutes) to the forum.

Not sure if this problem ever got solved BUT in case it did not
and also for future reference here is a fix.

Here is the reason and the fix.........

Sometimes removing or disabling Windows (or MSN) Messenger causes OE to open slowly. This will be shown by an entry in the system error log:

The server {FB7199AB-79BF-11D2-8D94-0000F875C541} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

To fix this, open Regedit and navigate to this key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
\CLSID
\{FB7199AB-79BF-11d2-8D94-0000F875C541}
\InProcServer32

In the right-hand pane, double-click on the (Default) value and delete whatever is entered there, leaving it blank. Click OK. Now perform exactly the same ... Read more

A:Microsoft Outlook Express 6 VERY slow

Hi NokomisEast

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

First, move messages, your Dad wants to keep, to a new folder of his own creation in Outlook Express.
When Outlook Express starts, it will load faster if the Inbox is empty. If the Inbox.dbx file becomes corrupted he could lose all his messages, as Outlook Express will create a new Inbox.dbx file if it cannot use the original one.

After emptying the Inbox folder, compact the Message Store:
Close all windows.
Open Outlook Express
File > Work Offline
Click on the Local Folders folder
File > Folder > Compact All Folders
Walk away from the computer until the process is complete.
Avoid starting this process if the possibility of a power outage is imminent such as a thunderstorm in progress.

Should the compaction process ever be interrupted, restart it before accessing any folders and allow it to finish.
After the compaction process is finished, close Outlook Express, restart the computer and start Outlook Express to see if it loads faster.

Let us know what happens.
