Laptop with slow internet

Q: Laptop with slow internet

Hello Team,

I have a network problem at home, I currently have 100 Mbps, but there is a specific machine that always runs slow while connected to my local home wifi. I thought it was my internet speed at home but other devices display proper speeds. I had a technician visit my home and said that is my laptop that causes slow internet at my home, idk what to do is that even posible? What do you recommend? what can be causing this?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

hi all,

it's been a long time since I have had to post something about my problems in these forums. Well over a year as I have had my laptop for over a year now. This may seem like a similar thread to most that have been put up recently but I think it is quite different.

Ever since I have upgraded to IE8 I have noticed Vista be very slow. It could be to do with IE8 but I think that the slowness of my machine has been since before then...according to my wife. Has her facebook shennanegans broken the laptop???!

Here is a list of problems I am getting:
Long start up times. They aren't bothering me that much, just seem to be a bit longer than normal.
Very long time from when Vista has loaded and I can actually do somehting (15 minutes just now to access an mp3 on my desktop and it kept skipping for about 5 minutes before it stops skipping and playing the track normally)
Extremely slow at logging onto the internet. I mean that it takes minutes, literally minutes for IE8 to even display the very first internet page. After that it is slow, but not as bad...still frustrating though.
Changing between programs seems to take a few seconds.
Accessing my computer or my documents is like a game of russian roulette, will it let me or won't it.....900 on it won't!!!!
On mp3 tracks, if you go back to a certain point in the track it will take a few seconds to actually complete the task

Thank you for taking the time to read my request.

I purchased an HP entertainment laptop (windows vista os) about a year ago and I started experiencing problems with my speed a couple of months ago.

Most recently, I've experienced the following:

1. Slower speed surfing the net
2. Slow to open up an Internet Window (about 8 seconds)
3. Can not browse internet at the same time that an anti virus program is turned on (to monitor). Has occured with Norton and Trend Micro.
4. Can no longer access I-Tunes store or Rhapsody store when I open the applications.
5. You Tube videos are stop and go instead of running fluidly.

All of this is new behavior for my laptop...

Any ideas on what may be happening or what I should try to do next? I downloaded hijackthis, so I have that software program on my computer.

If anyone is willing to help, I would greatly appreciate it! Please let me know if you need additional information.

Many thanks in advance!

My laptop which has a wireless g receiver internal modem built in doesnt download as fast as it used to, as a matter of fact it downloads at half speed! I should be getting 300 kb/s at least butnow im getting a peak of 166 then dropping slowly to 145 kb/s. There is no spyware, ive cleaned the computer thorouly with software such as tune up utilities, registrry cleaner, system mechanic, diskeeper, etc. my internet connection is just plain slowe rhten before, it happened all at once too. What could be done to fix this issue? its a Dell Inspiron 8600 , i bought it end of 2003.

Also, other computers conencted to the same router receive the full 300 kb/s , one of them even receives 375 kb/s
Thanks to the person who can solve this.

I thought the wifi at my work was sucking, but increasingly I have unstable speeds everywhere....seemingly just on my Windows 8.1 MSI gaming laptop. my phone will speedtest at 80mbps and the laptop at 7 mbps a moment later, on the same Comcast wifi signal.

I've read about AMD Quick Stream as a program that regulates (badly) internet flow. is there something similar on this laptop? (It worked for a half a year on the same wifi signals before gradually disintegrating in its connecctivity)

could it be a failing wifi adaptor in the computer? something to do with fans?

A:Internet slow just on my MSI laptop

Install or reinstall the latest wireless driver from the laptop manufacturer's web site.

If problem persists ...

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista through 10.

Start - All Programs - Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt. [For Windows 8 thru 10: <Windows Logo> + x - Command Prompt(Admin)]

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine after all three commands; no need to boot after the 1st and 2nd.

We use a local ISP called Consolidated. We just upgraded from a 5mbps plan to a 10mbps plan because of slow/unresponsive internet speeds for all of us since the beginning of April. Today, they set us up with our new plan, however, on my laptop I am not getting the 10mbps (8+, they said they give 80% of what they offer). I can't get anything above 3mbps. I uninstalled my wireless drivers and reinstalled it. That didn't help at all. I've tried using an ethernet cable as well, but it was still slow. Every other laptop in the house can get solid speeds between 8.2mbps to 9.5mbps. If anyone has any ideas, that would be helpful.

We know absolutely nothing about that used laptop from Craigs List, so do the following:

Download and save the TSG System Information Utility (SysInfo.exe) to the desktop.

After it's been downloaded and saved, double-click it to run it.

I just bought a custom dell laptop a little less then a month ago and the stats are great on it (we customized it so it would be able to handle online gaming) but for some reason it runs really slow for certain things. It's slow when it comes to downloading or uploading videos on YouTube.

I figure this can help a little just so I can get to the main problem of my computer, but I looked around on the forums and saw someone have a similar problem and they were able to fix it by disabling certain things on their services under System Config. and I also tried that. I turned a few of my services off and It made my computer upload a 1.30 GB in 30 minutes that is now taking 300 minutes after turning my services back on.

Basically, I just don't know which one it is though that I need to just permanently keep off.

I'm having a problem with my one-year-old Dell Studio laptop. The laptop is extremely slow with my internet but my much older PC is fine. The problem has been going on for a few months now and I've tried to find a solution but have been unsuccessful.

I have an ASDL2+ internet connection and its connected by ethernet cable to my laptop and my desktop PC through a Billion ADSL router (BIPAC 5102).

The laptop is only a year old running Vista. The PC is about 6 years old running XP. The problem is that the PC gets reasonable speeds with my internet (min of 3Mbps up to about 10Mbps) but the laptop is ridiculously slow sitting around 0.3Mbps but seemingly stopping altogether for minutes.

I have checked all startup programs on the laptop by disabling them, restarting, then checking the connection but I found nothing. I also searched through the 'Services' in Vista by stopping and starting services I thought could be interfering with the connection but this also resulted in no success (I found a similar problem to mine searching the net and disabling 'Advanced Networking Service' seemed to fix that problem, but I did not have the same service in my list).

I have tried different ethernet cables and different ports on the modem. I have also tried different modems.

I'm not positive but I think there might be a problem with my network card.

In the 'Device Manager' under 'Network adapters' it reads:

Hi guys,

Just bought a new ASUS U46SV-WX044X, and the internet has been pretty slow on it since the first time I switched it on.

Although I'm on Virgin Media and as such have grown used to periods of poor internet quality, this is appears to be different. It was working fine on my previous laptop, and my girlfriends laptop seems to be having no trouble either.

We've got a superhub so I think I'm supposed to be getting either 50mb or 30mb, but either why I tried a speed test and was only getting around 3mb.

Was just wondering what the problem may be, maybe a pre-installed software interfering with my connection, or some other problem I'm overlooking.

Strangely some websites, such as facebook, seem to run faster than 'smaller' websites such as this forum. Youtube videos aren't buffering too well, and downloads are taking a long while.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Whenever the internet on my laptop slows down everything is slow. All 3 of my browsers (GC, FF, IE) slow down and so do my download managers. On my other laptop the internet is fine. My internet is 6 Mbps DL and when it slows down it is about as fast as dial-up. The problem is the same whether wired or wireless.

I just bought an alienware M18x, and set it up a few days ago. To my knowledge, all of the drivers are up to date. Yet my internet is still slow (about half the time). I run a speed test, and it says my download speed is 0 mbps for a few moments, then it skyrockets and averages out to about 8. The upload speed is more consistent, but only at 0.3 mbps. I have centurylink at up to 12, and they've told me that the connection itself is fine. Encryption type is set to TKIP, as this helped before (though it's slow regardless). I can post my dxdiag if necessary. Any ideas?

sometimes you need to actually update the driver by downloading the driver and installing , rather than just doing an update

also try

I would goto device manager and right click on the adapter and uninstall/remove and then restart the PC and let windows re-detect the hardware and reinstall the driver

I have a year-old Sony Vaio laptop which connected to the internet without any problems on my BT Homehub connection. However, I recently moved in with my girlfriend who has a Virgin media connection and, although I can connect to it without problems, it is extremely slow (around 0.30 mbps) whereas my girlfriend's laptop is fine (9.74 mbps), we both have iPhones which are also fine therefore I'm pretty certain the problem lies with my laptop. I have tried updating the wireless card's drivers (windows tells me they are up to date) and I've also tried disabling my Norton 360 but it didn't make any difference.

Any help anyone can give me would be very much appreciated...

A:Extremely Slow Internet On One Laptop Only

My wife has a new Lenovo Yoga laptop and I have a Acer Aspire One laptop. We both use the same wifi network (supplied by our landlord, we dont have access to the modem or wireless router). The Acer laptop never has internet issues, it is always loading pages very fast. However, my wifes laptop (lenovo) is incredibly slow, it literally takes 3minutes or more for one page to load. I ran a speed test on both laptops and they both have very similar results, not sure what else to do....any suggestions? Thank you.

I just bought this laptop today, every web page loads extremely slow and it's impossible to watch Youtube. I cannot find any way to contact HP by phone and all support requires internet which is not working properly. I got on chat but got disconnected. The guy deleted a bunch of files on my new laptop and disappeared. How do I get phone support. Should I just return this thing to Best Buy? :-/

Hi all,

My girlfriend's brother downloaded something called 'iMesh' to their laptop. It's been removed, but the application seems to have slowed the machine down considerably.

Does anyone mind having a look at the HijackThis log, to see what can be done to help?

Many thanks!

I bought a new laptop a few months ago, and ever since I bought it I struggled with this slow internet browsing, at first multiple sites wouldn't load up as fast as I wanted it to. hotmail.com would load up in 30 seconds, and sometimes it wouldn't load up at all. Sometimes it would be no data sent. This happens on certain sites. Some sites load up instantly, some doesn't. My IPod / my old HP laptop would run perfectly fine and better than this. Internet for gaming, downloading is perfectly fine.

My laptop model is Hp pavilion m6-1035dx !
Someone please help, much thanks is appreciated!!

A:New laptop, very slow Internet browsing

Typically, this is an issue with the DNS settings. The system will ask DNS#1 and wait for it to timeout before asking DNS#2.
That delay makes browsing very akward/slow.

Get a command prompt (start->run->cmd)
1) find your DNS settings
issue IPCONFIG /all
look for

DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . :

(yes, I have three)

2) try accessing each manually

nslookup google.com
nslookup google.com
nslookup google.com

(notice these are from the (1) results)
If any timeout, substitute or

Hi all, newbie here. My laptop when switched on is slow to connect to the internet,( I use wifi to connect) I often have to wait 2 or 3 minutes before the internet connection is made. When i am eventually connected everything works just fine..Does anyone know why it takes this long to connect to the internet.

A:Laptop slow to connect to internet

There can be many reasons why its slow to connect. When you are connected do you ever loose connection? Dose the WIFI just drop out?
I would recommend a driver update just to see if the problem is still there.
if you post what WiFi card you have (brand, OS, Bit) i would be more then happy to have a look for you.

Have you noticed this decrease in speed after you installed Win8? If so make sure you are running the latest wireless driver for your version of Windows 8. I would go to...

Speedtest.net by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test

tell us your ping, download and upload, if possible check this with the wireless and then plug in with direct ethernet from the modem and see if your getting the same speed.

Last week I tried to install a new router that was given to me that had 802.11n (currently only have b and g) however after alot of fiddling I realised the router was for cabled internet and we have adsl so it wasn't compatible. It popped the old router back with all the same settings and everything was fine for a few days....

Then after no apparent reason my laptop decided to have painfully slow internet (measured at 0.06mbps...). I don't understand because other laptops, phones and an iPad that use the wifi and one wired PC are all working fine.

At first whenever I would turn the laptop on and it would connect to the Wifi it would kill the internet for the other wireless devices. I could only regain the internet on these devices if I turned them off and then reset the router and then turned them back on when the router had reset itself.

After doing a bit of reading on here I tried to see if changing the secruity from WPA2 to WPA-TKIP would help. With WPA now enabled it now no longer means that the Internet gets killed on other devices once the laptop connects. But the internet on them does become slower. The internet on the laptop improves sliiiiightly (with WPA) but is still not at the speed it was at previous to it messing up.

I have also tried, cleaning up the laptop, disk defragmentation, looking for faults with the wifi adapter (it says there are none), restoring the laptop to a time when it worked....

I tried doing:
Command promt:
ipconfig /flushdns

I have a new laptop, a Samsung NP300V5AH, Core i7, 4 GB RAM, 1 GB NVIDIA, and 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium. It works perfectly fine but internet browsing is extremely slow. This is specifically the wireless browsing that's slow. When I connect with a cable, it's much faster. I have a fast internet connection that works great on wireless with my other, even older laptops, but for some reason it's slow on this one. It makes no difference if there are no other devices connected, whether I'm close to the router or not, what the signals are like - it's slow anyways.
I have a Dlink router (DIR-618) and I've called the Dlink people about this but besides minor adjustments in the router settings, they can't do much considering other devices work just fine. I've tried a router reset, to no avail.
I've tried Mozilla and Google Chrome as well, but changing browsers doesn't make a difference either.
I'm running Norton Internet Security

Any help I could get on this would be greatly appreciated.

A:Slow Internet browsing on new laptop

Is the speeds slow on other wireless connections? Such as a friends or even a public Hot Spot? It could be a problem with your wireless adapter integrated within your laptop. Especially since your hardline connection seems to work fine. That leads me to believe its nothing wrong with your network and the problem lies within your laptop. Make sure it has the proper drivers installed and it isn't malfunctioning in anyway. In WIN7 there is a way to have the OS diagnose any potential problems within a adapter. I recommend trying that as well and reporting back here with the results.

**Edit : Also, try disabling Norton and see if your speeds improve.

I've gotten a Lenovo Laptop recently. As soon as I got it I went home and set it up. As soon as I got use to Windows * I went to Desktop and the following happened.
I tried to go to Internet Explorer to try to search for a different browser and everything loaded up slow, the connection is 4 bars but it still is slow. It was a miracle I even got to download anything. After I got Google Chrome I decided to go on YouTube to test if it was slow as well. The videos need time to buffer even if on 240p. On my PC the internet loads fast, no need to buffer videos at all and the other webpages load fast too.

I have a Ps3 here too, but it's YouTube app's videos load fast too, no need to buffer. I can play online with 4 bars and no problems at all. Why is the internet so slow on my laptop?
