Soundcard isssues

Q: Soundcard isssues

I currently run my computer on Vista Ultimate 64 and today something went wrong with my sound.
I noticed it when I tried to play music in Winamp and I got this message that no sound card was installed, same thing goes for Spotify. I've checked my device manager but it says that my sound card is working with no issues. If I go to the control panel under the sound part it says no device installed. I've tried to uninstall the drivers and update with new ones but the problem persist.
I have no clue on how to fix this, any help would be appreciated.

Preferred Solution: Soundcard isssues

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

we need you to fill in your system specs (lower left corner in your posts) so we know what hardware you have.

you may want to try un-installing the sound driver then letting windows find ot for you.

Lately at a start up it takes my computer long time to establish network connection .The skype icon takes a long time to get green and the network icon is probing for a long time , what is most unusuall that i have a data streaming program that is connected immediately to the internet and the data streaming is working perfectly while the rest of the computer is still searching for it , while probing i cannot open Explorer/FireFox.
It is like i have 2 kinds of connections in 1 computer. the computer itself is connected to a router and another computer that is working on the same router does not suffer the same issues, i guess in one of the updates something has changed but i cannot put my finger on the cause.
Thank you

A:Lan isssues

Hi please try a system restore to a point before the issue first occurred.

If issue still persists is this a wired or wireless connection.

Turn off the data streaming program and see if things improve.

What is the data streaming program you are using?

Hiya, I've recently purchased an Envy 15-ah150na which had W10 on it. I didnt want W10 so formatted the drive and I have a spare W7 pro I got from dreamspark premium which I want to install on the machine. I've enabled legacy mode in the BIOS and am using the USB 2.0 port on the right hand side. I have a 32GB USB flash drive which has the image transferred onto it using microsofts tool to make a bootable USB drive. the issue I'm running into is when the "expanding windows files" is at 1% I get the error: The only way I've kind of got around this is by trying to do the first part of thei nstall in another PC then transferring the HDD back into the laptop to complete. This is far from ideal... any ideas why its doing this?

I used the windows explorer burn facility on windows 7

I removed all the waiting to be burnt temp files

clicked on photos and clicked on Burn to burn all to DVD - it burnt the files - but then when the burnt and finalised disk was placed back in the machine - it showed only 1 file burned and all the others marked as waiting to be burnt

I placed the disk into a different machine and it showed all the files and folder on the disk burnt

any idea what's going on here - making it difficult for my friend who is not computer literate and new to this type of thing - struggle with burning disks and i thought using windows explorer in windows 7 would be easiest - but not if it shows burnt disks ad waiting to be burnt

never had this issue on windows 7 pcs before when helping others burn ???

Yesterday i re-installed XP Home SP2 from the disk and now i have Windows XP with missing drivers

The missing drivers are:

- Ethernet controller
- PCI communications thingy

And on computer startup i have no programs except the defaults, and a very old version of windows media player, on startup i also have a weird screen that is titled as 'OEM reset' with an option to shutdown, do an audit boot and build an RIS deployment image.. why have i got that?

I need to get the Ethernet controller asap and i cannot connect to the internet through my PC.

The PC is an old eMachines e4024, 2.9ghz intel pentium 4 with 512mb ram.

eMachines support is rubbish, they hardly give anything, that's why im posting here..
My ethernet controller is a Intel pro 10/100, thats as far as i have got to finding out what the controller is, everest did not tell me anything about an ethernet controller.. but i know it is manufactered by Intel, on intel's website they have a list of driver downloads for many ethernet controllers but im posting here cause i cant find my model.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi .<<Yesterday i re-installed XP Home SP2 from the disk and now i have Windows XP with missing drivers>>What disk might that be? Is it a MS XP install CD?Is it a CD provided by eMachines for restoring your system?Did you have a drivers CD for your system? If so, did you run it?Did you delete everything on the C: partition and attempt a clean install...or did you attempt to do a repair install of your existing XP?FWIW: Drivers for E4024 desktop, http://downloads.emachines.com/emdriver.html?model=E4024Louis

Been having lots of hassle.

Finally got mobo to recognise my soundcard - Audigy 2ZS. Now comp is quite unstable. Keeps crashing of own accord. Sometimes rebooting, other times to completely unresponsive state with display frozen, sometimes to blackscreen and have to hold on button in till machine shuts off.

When I restart I have lost sound. Card not listed in device manager. Computer still crashing randomly.

If I leave the computer turned off for a good couple of hours, sometimes when I restart the sound has returned and card is recognised in devices.

Anybody know what might be happening.

Epox 9npa nForce4 ultra
AMD 64 3700 SanDiego
Gigabyte G Power Cooler pro
ThermalTake PurePower 480W
Creative Audigy 2ZS Platinum
Windows XP Pro

Also, my mouse pointer is jumping all over the screen of it's own accord which is very frustrating. Cordless Optical Mouse, reciever about 5inches away from mouse, latest logitech drivers, worse with SP2, enhanced pointer precission switched off. Mouse mat makes no difference.

Any suggestion on rectifying this prob or is it related to comp crashing ???

A:Soundcard recognised. Crash. Soundcard not recognised. Wait 2Hr Recognised Again ??.

You didnít mention if your sound card is built into the motherboard or is an add-on card. I'll assume itís an add-on. I would check to make sure the sound card is seated firmly in the slot, or another option would be to try another slot. Perhaps the one you have the sound card in is bad. Also, you may want to uninstall the driver for the sound card and download a new one from the manufactureís website.

You also mention that your mouse pointer jumps all over the screen. Usually when this happens to me, it means the battery's are starting to run out and need replaced. Also, try moving the receiver as far away from the monitor, speakers and tower. Interference from any of these devices can play havoc with the signal.

Good Luck.

I guess this post really boils down to 2 points:

1: I bought a Thrustmaster gaming headset and the headphones work great, the microphone not at all. Its not a hardware fault as i have tested it on my friends laptop and it works fine. From what i can see online, there are no drivers to download, it should just be plug and play. I have onboard sound on my motherboard and i have the MSI P67A-GD65. Do I need to buy a dedicated sound card in order to get my headset to work?

2: Thinking i did need a soundcard, i actually went out and bought one. I got the Asus DG headphone Amp & PCI. Problem being that it doesnt fit. I do have PCI slots on my motherboard, but they are 2.0, not 2.2, and it doesnt quite fit. How can you tell what fits your motherboard and what doesnt. Everything just says PCI and thats it, which isnt much help. Or am i doing something else wrong?

Any help much appreciated.

A:Do I need a soundcard

1) You shouldn't need one, no. Make sure your settings in Windows are configured properly to use this headset as the microphone.

2) There are many types of PCI slots, so it is very important to make sure you buy hardware that you know will be compatible. You can do this by cross-referencing the hardware you purchase with the supported expansion slots of your motherboard. This information is usually available on the motherboard itself, or on the manufacturer's website.

It sounds great without but could i pump out more quality with one?

Theoretically, a separate soundcard should provide more quality than any onboard "card". But to be really honest, I have an onboard HD audio card, and it sounds really well.

hi, currently i am using a laptop and the soundcard installed in this computer is Conexant AC-Link Audio. I have plan to buy Altec Lansing V2221 but worry that due to the quality of my computer's soundcard will produce a negative effect on the speakers, such as sound distortion or sound cracking. So does it really affect the speakers ???

Thanks for your information and i will appreciate it.

Welcome to Techspot!

Does your sound card support stereo speakers? Try hooking up some el cheapos into the line out jack and play some music, and if it sound ok, then it does. other than that....
I really do not think it will affect the speakers in any way! I have used onboard sound cards for a year now, and I have some 100$ altec lansing speakers as well, and they sound just great. If anything those expensive speakers will only improve the quality of the sound.

At the outset, I should say I am interested in good quality music playback, rather than surround sound for gaming.

I have an old SB Audigy, and would now like to upgrade. I don't have a whole heap of money, but am not sure whether merely swapping for an Audigy 2 of whichever type would make much difference. ie would it be worth saving up for something rather better?

Therefore, any suggestions and experiences would be much appreciated!

I am looking for a good PCI-e soundcard. PCI is out of the question, as my GPUs cover every slot I have. I have a 4x and 1x PCI-e slot available, but it looks like I need to use the 4x, unless the 1x card is VERY small- there is a heatsink immediatley behind the 1x slot.
So.. I assume that a 1x will work in a 4x slot, if not someone can correct me. I am loing for a good PCI-e soundcard, preferably not too pricy, but I need UK links and prices, on the grounds thats where I am .

I just bought a new eMachines computer equipped with AC'97 Audio and crappy speakers. The sound pretty much sucks. If I purchase some new, good speakers with a subwoofer (I'm currently looking into purchasing the Creative Labs Inspire T2900) will the sound be any better? Or is a new soundcard necessary?

I'm trying to avoid spending alot, but I watch DVD's and listen to MP3's on this computer, and it's simply just not enjoyable with the sound being produced now.

A:New soundcard : necessary?

It really depends on how picky you are. It will definitely be a lot better than any speakers they gave you for free. I'd try it with the new speakers first - see if that cuts it for you. A good new soundcard won't be hard to get or even cost too much if you need one later.

The price difference is £10 and I will be using it for a computer based hi-fi. I will connect the souncard to an integrated amp to some bookshelf speakers. I found out that the signal however from the soundcard will be analog because amplifiers dont have a DAC in them-is this true?
So listening to music is what Ill primary be using the card for as you'd guess, but also to record directly from my guitar amplifier.
Which would you recommend from experience?
Thanks in advance.

You need to uninstall the software/drivers from your onboard sound and gameport. You also need to disable this in the bios. Once thats done you can install the souncard you have bought, with software and game port.

I want good quality for my gaming, but it also needs to play music pretty good, although it doesn't have to be 7.1 for my music, obviously stereo would work just fine. I was looking at the Razer tamiat, and just running that on my Onboard for a few months until I can get a Creative or something for a soundcard. Anything you guys can suggest is much appreciated.

To be completely honest, unless you're an audiophile you won't notice much difference between onboard vs a sound card. A lot of times audio can be adjust with the equalizer to provide the sound you want from your speaker setup. But, if a sound card is something you insist on, I would suggest the Asus Xonar Essence line, it's been phenomenal for myself.

Can i hook up a boombox to my soundcard?
so i can record sounds on a radio cassette.
If so how?

Yes you can...if your sound card has a jack for "input" sound. Plug the cable from your player out to the sound card in...record and save...there you go

A:ac'97 soundcard help

Download SIW and run it find the make model and manufacturer of your motherobard and then go to their site and the support section to download the appropriate drivers for yoru sound. if this is an intel chipset then it is most likely the soundmax drivers that you need.

Heres the deal, for months my computer has routinely locked up in 3d games(Soldier of Fortune, Medal of Honor, Neverwinter Nights, etc...). I assumed it was the "infinite loop" video problem. After spending way too much time finding new and improved drivers and changing settings I read about SB Live cards having issues with 3d games in W2k. For kicks I disabled the card and that was the end of my problems.

So, for a multi-use computer, including 3d games, what is a stable sound card? Price isn't an issue. Surround speakers are setup, just need something to drive them.

Input greatly appreciated.

A:SoundCard in W2K....

For stabilty in terms of Drivers and Pure sound quality I'd recommend the Santa Cruz straight away .
