I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all.
You go on for a few months sorting out the problems your PC throws at you,My 75years young
friend swears that there are little people that live in his PC.Well heres one I need help with. Both myself & google have been unable to sort this one out. I was having problems with files not unloading from the registry This was sorted with Win.User Hive Cleanup service, but the loadperf error it says that it is failing to unload the performance counter strings. I have failed to find a cure.Does anyone know what the problem may be.I have also had a few disk warnings and another warning refering to disk errors and suggest I may have to replace my HD "C" If you have anyany Ideas I would very much appreciate your help

Hi again
It is looking like a 3012 error corrupt file in the registry, it looks like another disk format and win install.then load and check all programs as I load. I should be used to this but it is always a pain.I have a few things to do before the format so I will keep my fingers crosed that someone may come up with the answer.

I installed a popular stock program from broker's website.  Program seemed to install OK but when I tried to run program for the 1st time (from the last pane of the installation window) , my computer froze, all except the cursor.  Restarted computer and tried starting program from new desktop icon and got same result: everything frozen but the cursor.

Found these errors in eventviewer, both sourced as LoadPerf:

event 3011  "Unloading the performance counter strings for service WmiApRpl (WmiApRpl) failed. The Error code is the first DWORD in Data section."

event 3012 " The performance strings in the Performance registry value is corrupted when process Performance extension counter provider. BaseIndex value from Performance registry is the first DWORD in Data section, LastCounter value is the second DWORD in Data section, and LastHelp value is the third DWORD in Data section.

Google  showed one fix by running lodctr /r, in a cmd window.  Tried that but only resulted in getting the help screen  for lodctr. didn't get any notice about results.

Computer is up to date XP home.

Any thoughts appreciated.

I'm running Windows 7 Pro on my Dell laptop. This laptop has been in storage and hasn't been turned on in a year. Originally, all I wanted to do was use iTunes. The problem:

It made me update it in order to use it, but I got an error.

I un-installed it and tried downloading a fresh copy and I get the following error:
After some Googling, I read that not having the latest Windows .NET framework might be the problem. Sounded reasonable so I fired up Windows Update but that gave me an error and wouldn't start checking for updates.

I managed to get it to check for updates, but now when it starts the process, I get the following:
I Googled the error code "8007007E" and tried a few things to try and fix it.

I downloaded the windowsupdatediagnostic.diagcab, found on Microsoft's site, here:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/troubleshoot-problems-installing-updates#1TC=windows-7
I tried resetting the Windows Update reset tool, using "MicrosoftFixit50202", found here:http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9665683
I download the system readiness tool, found here:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3132
I tried a clean boot.

I tried renaming the Windows Update Softwaredistribution folder.

None of this worked.

I ran the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) and the results said I had bad files, but I don't know how to fix them. It generated a CBS log, which is too large for me to post (10MB) , so I've uploaded to dropbox,... Read more

Hello ,

what you need to do is erase the harddrive then do the reinstall , you can get a free program that you can create a bootable cd to do this with from here

or you can download the tools to do this from the manufacturer of the harddrive

either way you will have to make the bootable cd

make sur you read the instruction on the way to use the program

then start your system then put in the cd / reboot to load the cd and then erase your drive

depending on the size of your dive this can take from 1 to 5 hrs

this will write the drive to zero's and make it as if it never had software install on it ( like new from the factory)

Let me start with analysis of this error.
http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.php

If you are getting this error when trying to reinstall from your XP cd, then it sounds like you have a loose damaged or incorrect cable to either your cdrom or hard drive. I suggest replacing them both with quality 80 wire 40 pin IDE cables. It can also be caused by incorrect configuration if you have RAID or SATA drives.
Finally you may want to try with just one stick of RAM installed. If you have more than one now; you should try each in the slot nearest the processor all by itself until you rule out one of them being bad (If it works with one stick and not the other, you know the other is bad).

There is more information on possible causes of this error at ahuma ; but my first suspicion on seeing the image checksum mismatch is that the file in question has been replaced with something else, a trojan or virus.

Hi,I have fundamentally the same problem as Laura H from this thread http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic342716.html.I've had problems with these fake antivirus programs before and they really did a number on my laptop. I treated the problem using various tools mostly malware bytes and deleting some suspect files.Been working fine for the most part however today out out of nowhere I was attacked by malware doctor. I deleted the suspect file from the temporary internet files folder and ran malware bytes that detected trojan and deleted. Shortly after drwatson ??? was shut down and some time later I think explorer shut down because my desktop went back to basics....no theme, desktop wallpaper etc. the windows 95 look if you grasp what I'm trying to get at. I thought it was no big issue and in my own time restarted laptop when I realized audio wasn't working after trying to play a film.Upon restart I get the blue screen with the same message as Lauras. So for the most part I'm in the same situation as Laura with some minor differences such as I didn't use Spy doctor etc.I have Kaspersky AV installed which has been inefficient in protecting my laptop lately, especially from these fake AV attacks. Hi,

I have been running WindowsXP/Microsoft Office 2002 for nearly twenty months without problem.

Today, when opening individual files in Word/Excel format, the following dialogue boxes are displayed: "Preparing to install" is first displayed, followed by "Please wait whilst Windows configures Microsoft Office XP Professional" with an incremental loading bar L to R followed by "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-Rom which is not available. Install the Microsoft Office XP Professional Disc and click OK". The latter box offers OK/Cancel/Browse. When I click Cancel (because the subject programs are already loaded onto my computer and have been running successfully for twenty months)
I get "Error 1706. Set-up cannot find the required files. Check your connection to the nextwork or CD-Rom Drive. For other potential solutions to this problem see c:\Program Files\etc etc" When I click OK on this latest box the "Please wait whilst Windows configures Microsoft Office XP Professional" reappears and the bar unloads from R to L.

When I attempt to reopen the file in question it often opens normally.

However I feel that this problem could represent an underlying corruption which could develop.

It is essential that I do not lose my existing files.

I recently read that there is a MS service pack that causes this to happen. If you have recently applied any patches, one of them may be causing your problem. Go to the MS website and search the knowledgebase. I hope this helps.

When attempting to install MS Office 2010 (also applies to Pro, Beta, and 2007) via download, you may be foiled by Error code 25004 and System error 1073418460 under Win 7 (or Vista, XP). You may also see a refusal to verify the license. This typically happens when you fail to uninstall Office 2010 Starter, Office Click, or some other version of Office before attempting to install the new Office. You would think MS had already figured out how to prevent this <sigh>.

You need to remove all the instances of Office in order to properly install the new office. However, you may also find that the Windows uninstall from Control Panel, Add or change a program will fail to remove the old Office.

This thread can be helpful, although it is somewhat dated. The RevoUninstaller sounds like a successful utility, but I have not tried it myself.

I turned on my PC today for the first time in maybe 6mo, slow to boot up but that's expected. Got maybe ten minutes into using it (just fine, might I add. Linked to wifi, etc) and Norton popped up needing to restart the computer. Hit restart now, ten minutes
go by, PC is still trying to shut down. Black screen but the fan is running. I shut it off completely, push the power button again, and get the disc error. Try to restart twice with CtrlAltDel but same error. Finally soft reset (or try to, no indication that
holding the power button does anything) and then got the "Error loading operating system" screen. Now depending on how I restart it (trying to boot from the BIOS menu or boot menu) I get the disc read error but eventually come back to the OS error.

Nothing can get me into the system, period. I'm doing this from a secondary non-PC device. Any help is appreciated. I can get by on software fixes but I'm completely useless with hardware so all of the quick fix tips I've vaguely read have mentioned removing
things from the actual console which I'm hoping I won't have to do.
Please help thanks

At first sight this could be the result of a windows update messing with a driver, or possibly a recent driver update. Have you tried going back on a recent driver update or possible a system restore to see if this cures it? The trouble with intermittent BSDs like this is that it can take an age to check!

Hi

Running Windows XP Pro SP3

I keep randomly getting this error.

I found some information from 2003 that would lead me to believe that what I have is like the W32.Blaster.Worm documented back then, but after running symantec's specific tool to get rid of Blaster I ended up finding nothing.

Also, I've run many Malwarebytes scans, Spybot Search and Destroy scans and iolo Anti Virus scans(I know it's not the best but others seem to clash with my System Mechanic because it's set to work with the iolo one) which all turn up nothing.
This has been bugging me for a few weeks now while I tried to find out what was going on when I had the free time to run these long scans. At the same time my services.exe and one of my svchost.exe files are always running at about 10% of my CPU each and it definitely seems related to the NT AUTHORITY RPC errors I'm getting now.
Help with this will be extremely appreciated.

So my laptop has a bunch of problems. It started out as a virus infection then I found out more problems.

First of all, thank you to Broni for directing me to the thread that tells me to run DSS.

I can't run a systems restore. I get the 0x800700B7 error. As well, Systems Restore says that I've never had a Systems Restore done before, which I think is odd, because I recall seeing Systems Restores created last time I checked (maybe a year ago?)

I also can't turn on Windows Firewall. I get the "Windows can't start the Mpssvc" message.

Right when I log onto a particular Win 7 x64 system that performs as a file server I get a System Error 11 logged:

The specific drive is a Western Digital 2 TB MyBook 1140 USB drive attached via USB3 connection, and apparently has something to do with being spun down.  It won't log the above error if it's already spun up.
The system drive is a RAID 5 array of SSDs managed by Intel RST.  No part of RST seems to even know about the backup drive, so I doubt this is an issue.
I'm not sure why Explorer or anything should be trying to access this particular drive when I log in, nor why it being spun down should cause an error even if something does access it.  It's a pretty lean system, without very much that runs upon
logon.
I have the latest Western Digital drivers, and the drive is otherwise perfectly healthy.  Every 3 hours a backup runs and it logs no errors at that time - just when I log into the system interactively, either by RDP or locally on the console.
I prefer to have my systems run error-free, and this is one of two classes of errors I'm trying to eliminate (the other being a recurring registry access error logged by Microsoft Security Essentials, which seems unrelated).

Any ideas?

-Noel

I have a Sitefinity 7.0 project I am developing that has been working fine until a few weeks ago. After a round of Windows updates I would get a 500 error everytime I tried to access the Dashboard or any other backend page. The login worked, but the desired
page always failed, whether running in VS2013 or published and run from IIS 7. The production site hosted on WS2008R2 remained trouble free, but the issues affects development on my Windows 8.1 box.

I confirmed the error was caused by Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 and 4.5.2 on Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 x64-based Systems (KB3098779). Removing the update resolved the issue. Once a week, every week since, the update is
reinstalled automatically without me being able to stop it. The error reappears every time this update is automatically reinstalled.

Hello,

From day 1 my computer crashes to blue screens with various messages, such as Memory Management, System Service Exception, Kernel Data Inpage Error, IRQL not less or equal, and a few others that I can't remember anymore, but recently more frequent is the one saying "the system encountered an uncorrectable hardware error".
I have only a few programs installed on this computer, and I mainly use it with Photoshop, therefore most of the crashes occur while I use Photoshop. But some also occur when I do absolutely nothing, or I leave the computer with the desktop showing, and I go to the kitchen (for example), or, when I transfer files from an external HD to a flash drive, etc, so I can't connect a particular program to a particular error message.

I restored the computer a few times to factory defaults.
Windows is up to date.
I use Norton Security Suite.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I reached the end of my powers and patience.

A:Error: 0x00000124 - System encountered an uncorrectable hardware error

Welcome to SF mariad .

You have quite a variety of BugCheck Codes, but the main concern at the moment
are the 0x124 bugchecks.
Those are usually a hardware issue, in your case it points to the PCI/PCI-e ports do you have
Are there other expansion cards installed apart from the GPU?
Is your GTX 560 Ti overclocked?
Are you monitoring the temperatures?
Have you tired a different pair of PCI power connectors to run to the card?
Have you tired the second PCI-e slot?
Have you tried reseating the GPU making sure it is firmly in place?

What is the make, model and age of your PSU?
Fill out this form and post back the result:
Power Supply Calculator

Test for thermals and stability:
Download HWinfo and post a Screenshot of the sensors window, one at idle and another while putting load on the PC using Prime95 for the CPU side and Furmark for the GPU.Before running Prime95 make sure to enable Round-off checking (see 1st post under the tutorial).

   Note
It is not mandatory to run both tests simultaneously, although possible as long as the temperatures are under constant monitoring.

Hello,

One day not too long ago, one laptop started up on me. On bootup, I got an error message that says "

error accessing the system registry", followed by another error, " unexpected error; quitting". I went to

your website, downloaded several virus removal tools, and cleaned the infection, but the error still

happens. Today, I noticed that my desktop does the same thing. I ran RKill and Emsisoft's program, and it

is still running. So far, I have 2 objects detected:

I recently re-installed windows and am now trying to install the DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010). All goes well, it installs everything, but as it finished I get this error:
I have tried redownloading, using other installers and updating my graphics drivers. Nothing will work. It's probably worth mentioning that the first time I tried installing, about a week ago, my computer totally froze in the middle of the install and I had to force restart.

Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

A:DirectX install error - An internal system error occurred.

Welcome to Seven Forums callumshell1. The 1st thing I would suggest would be to run the System Files Checker.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

See if it finds and corrects any errors. Also, see if you locate the 2 dx logs mentioned, in the windows directory, and post them here, or just the text if they are short, which they may well be.

Hi all,

Huge problem regarding permissions on my (massively unstable) PC. I try to run ANYTHING including .dlls with admin permissions and i get a nice little "ding", and error message regarding the relevent .dll and File system error -1073741792, including one just before I get to the logon screen (think it was called "WINMM.dll", which yes, is "microsoft mouse", but my mouse still appears to be working sooooo... confused... lol).

Also, when i try to system restore, I get an unspecified error, code (0x8000ffff). I don't get anymore info, it just apparently can't do it.

All this came about when i started my PC up after changing/installing NOTHING (since it last worked perfectly), and it randomly said the disk integrity of C: (64GB kingston SSD running the OS but no installed programs) had to be checked, before several black screens of text whizzed by, deleting and then repairing registry entries. It has done this once before, (completely different symptoms, but same root cause of this windows integrity checker thingy), but i fixed it by transferring my account files to a new account, deleting the old one, and presto, instant new admin profile with full permissions again, but problem is, what with nothing that requires admin status working, I can't create a new account this time.

If anything seems unclear about what I've just written, please ask, and I'll clarify, but I've been battling with this all day, and need to get some rest befor I ... Read more

Hello guys,
I have tried everything I found online and failed. I don't wanna do a clean install. I have attached the CheckSur.log. Please help.

A:Windows update error 80070002 and System restore error (Both)

I was getting that same error - and saying "cannot search for updates".

I tried the Fixit tool and command prompts - suggested by Microsoft - nothing worked.

I finally called Microsoft - 1 - 800 - Microsoft and they did a remote on my comp and the problem is solved, at least for now.

There is no charge for this service.

As for System Restore, make sure you have set a Restore Point.
Go to Start and type system restore.
Go to " Create a restore point".

See if your C drive says "on" and if not click Configure.

I'm having a problem with my sister in law's computer. Originally, she had that annoying XP 2008 virus/spyware, which I think I managed to get rid of with Malwarebytes' Anti Malware and System Mechanic 7. Now I have a new problem. After receiving a recent download from microsoft, upon restarting, I get the blue screen of death with this message;

STOP: C000021a (Fatal System Error) The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000)

I can't get anywhere into Windows, I've done F2, F8, F12, everything I could think of without risking more damage since I'm not trained for this. I've booted from the system mechanic CD with the Hard Drive recovery, and while it said it found and fixed a problem, it didn't fix this one. I have no windows CD. The computer is a Dell, and it's running Windows XP service pack 2 with Explorer 6. Heeeeeelp! Other than the F keys, I can't get anywhere with this computer.

This morning I turned on my PC (Windows 7 x64) and I get this blue screen error STOP:c000021a [FATAL SYSTEM ERROR].
I can't even get passed the starting windows screen it just keeps on rebooting then getting blue screen again. I've tried safe mode and last known configuration point. Both just give me blue screen after the drivers are loaded. Haven't installed anything new recently so I don't know what the cause of this problem could be. I apparently have no system restore points even though Norton would make them every scan. I can get to command prompt and that is the only thing I can get to. Is there a way I can fix this through command prompt. I think I've attached the screen it gives me and that's all I know.
Thanks!

I think rebooting could maybe make things worse, so I figured it would be better to ask for advice before attempting to reboot again, so I don't have the scanning information required.

I began to have problems with my computer this morning (June 29). Last night I had let windows install its updates, rebooted, and left the computer on overnight. When I got up the next morning, it had an error about win32.exe encountering an error and needing to close, one of those error report ones. The first time I didn't bother telling it to send. However, afterwards the taskbar disappeared and ctrl+alt+del didn't do anything. I had to reboot manually, and then it was fine for a while until having another win32 error report, which I sent, and after which my sound failed to work for certain things. My winamp had an error about missing something and wouldn't play, and a youtube video's sound wouldn't play. I didn't have to shut it down manually this time, and the shutdown sound worked. The sound worked again afterward, but I tried virus scanning with Avira and it stopped on svchost.exe.mdmp at 22.1%, and it only found a java/openconnect.l for a ?detection?. I tried getting the task manager, and when I tried ctrl+alt+del and clicked it, it not only didn't give me the task manager at all but it took my taskbar, and then nothing else would work when clicked. I rebooted again and tried running MalwareBytes, and then after a couple minutes the screen went black and then turned blue, and had this:... Read more

Bump, please.
I also forgot to mention that after I rebooted the 2nd time, Google Chrome appeared on my computer, but I never installed it. So there's something weird going on there too.

I've always had weird things wrong with my system which I've suspected memory problems, like games that take up a lot of memory would sometimes crash, etc.

I had gotten BSODs before, but RARELY. Now recently, at least once a day I've been getting this BSOD "DRIVER LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TO" (something like that).

Here is the exact error I get:

Error code 1000000a, parameter1 00000000, parameter2 00000002, parameter3 00000000, parameter4 8053624f.

Error code 1000000a, parameter1 c3e9659a, parameter2 00000002, parameter3 00000001, parameter4 806ffa16.

Error code 1000000a, parameter1 00000000, parameter2 0000001c, parameter3 00000001, parameter4 804e163c.

Those above are from 3 separate occasions, all within 2 days. The odd thing is, this BSOD started coming recently. I would get a BSOD maybe 1ce a week at most before, and now I am getting this every day.

Another thing I've noticed is my computer sometimes get sluggish after a restart from a BSOD.. its very odd.

I've run windows debugger on the mini dumps of those crashes and got :

Probably caused by : SCSIPORT.SYS ( SCSIPORT+5974 ) for one of them
and
Probably caused by : ntoskrnl.exe for the other two.

Thanks.

I have been battling a virus(es) on my desktop for the past couple weeks. Yesterday, I downloaded and ran Spybot in safe mode. It listed 7 problems and I chose "fix selected". Spybot fixed 5 of the 7 and then prompted me to reboot to fix the other 2. Admittedly, I was brain-faded so I didn't look closely at what file names or paths it was trying to fix. Since that particular reboot, I have not been able to load windows since; fyi, I am running XP Pro. When I powerup, the computer flashes the Windows XP logo and then ultimately gives me the following message (before prompting me for login info): Fatal System Error c00021a. windows logon process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut down.

At this point, I'm not sure if I have a virus problem that has escalated, causing this fatal error, or a completely different problem. I'll give a bit of a background, since it may be relevent. I run Malware Antibyte scans and Advanced System Care (ASC) scans weekly to clean up any issues, but lately the problems would reappear just hours after running the scan. So, a couple of days ago, I downloaded Avast 5 and completed a scan. I also downloaded a freeware called Teamviewer at that time, although i don't think that is part of the problem, despite the timing. Yesterday morning, when booting up the computer in normal mode, I was unable to see any desktop icons or taskbar, I only could see... Read more
