"Minimize, Restore & Close Window" in Word

Q: "Minimize, Restore & Close Window" in Word

Excel 2007 has those 3 icons next to the question mark in a circle but my Word 2007 does not...Word 2007 has the circled question mark but no 3 icons for each document file opened...ugh!

I am not referring to the top ones for the Word program, they are there, but for" Document 1" the blank page, or then any document file you open.

Now every document file I open gets its own window instead of a tabbed window and I strongly prefer the latter.

Then when I close the last remaining document file, the Word program itself automatically closes, which I also hate.

Basically, I want Word 2007 to have and use "minimize, restore & close window" icons like Excel 2007 does for each open document. Not new windows for each.

Maybe I goofed somewhere and made Word this way...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Ok so I'm using a custom visual style made by another user however I don't really like the buttons used that I mentioned above. The creator states it is acceptable to change the theme to however you like as long as you don't redistribute it anywhere.

Ok so I opened up the .msstyles file (using Restorator) located in the theme folder of this VS. I went into the images directory and located what seems to be the images used for the buttons. Intuitively, it seems like it would make sense to replace those images with different ones (perhaps from another visual style) and it should change them. However, would this actually work? Could the theme get messed up in some other way (like proportions or something if the new button images are smaller)? I don't know of any other way to change them that would be easy.

But I did run into another problem. For some visual styles I can't even locate those buttons in the images directory. Where else would they be?

A:Changing the "minimize" "maximize" and "close" buttons of a theme

Use Windows Style Builder to do that...

I know it has something to do with the color setting but I can find anywhere I can change it.

Virtually every application in Windows has always had the capability to press Alt-Space followed by 'X' to Maximize, 'N' to minimize, or 'R' to restore. However IE9 seems to have removed this functionality.
Alt-space does bring up a menu, but those options are not present and have been replaced with:

Menu BarFavorites BarCommand BarStatus BarLock the toolbarsShow tabs on a separate row
For someone like me who is a keyboard shortcut junkie, this is very disconcerting. Is there any way to get this functionality back, or is this going to be one more reason for me to jump ship to Chrome?
Thanks in advance!Thought for the day: Beware of Gods who do not laugh...

A:IE9 "Alt + Space" menu does not have 'minimize', 'maximize', or 'restore'

Hi,

Firstly, please let us know if the function works properly in other windows, such as Windows Explorer.

If so, please try the following:

1. Please press Windows key + Arrow key to check if it can maximize or minimize your Internet Explorer.

2. Please refer to
Internet Explorer add-ons: frequently asked questions to temporarily disable all add-ons by running Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) and see how it works.

3. Please boot into

Hope this helps.

Hi,
I'm hoping someone can see a pattern between the software that works and doesn't work on my Windows 7 64 bit laptop.

In the past month (Jan-Feb 2011) a lot of the software I use to edit or display images and graphics will no longer run (crashes). System: Windows 7 64 bit SP1. 3 GB RAM, 500 GB HD Acer 6492 laptop with mobile intel 965 express graphics card. Windows Update reports it is up to date.

I don't get BSOD, just that when I start one of the affected programs, it fails to run and shuts down.Windows continues to run fine. I either get "___ has encountered a problem and needs to close" or "___ has stopped working, Windows is searching for a solutio to the problem".

Programs that won't run:
Google Earth neither Directx nor GL
PhotoPlus X4
Paintshop Pro X3
Xara Designer Pro 6

Programs that run fine
Picasa
PanoramaPlus
PanoramaStudio
SmartDraw
World Wind

I wonder what is the pattern or common denominator.

Symptom started roughly when I installed a new 500 GB drive (Seagate Momentus XT with 4GB RAM buffer 7200 RPM) in place of the 500 GB non-hybrid 5400 RPM drive. This is the 4th drive I've had in this laptop 160GB -> 320 GB -> 500 GB -> 500 GB with 4 GB buffer. Each time I had a Norton Ghost image of the C: drive, installed the new drive and restored the image to the C: drive. Windows fires up without a hitch. Seems you did everything you could, however, have you run (full scan) of your anti-virus and malware software. Not sure if it would help, but it cannot hurt. Also you might attempt reinstalling the last HDD to see if there isn't a problem there. If not then it would be wise to attempt to reformat the 500 to see if that is the problem. Good Luck.

Is there any way to speed up the time it takes to close the preview window? By default, it takes about 1.5 seconds for the window to close after moving the mouse off of the icon or preview pane. Can we make it instantaneous?

NOTE: Turning off taskbar animations in the "visual effects" does not shorten the time. It just takes away the animation, but, it still takes about 1.5 seconds for the preview to go away.

I right click an open window and "close - -" appears, as in "XP." However, tapping the "C" key doesn't work. Using other keys does work; eg, "D" for delete and "Y" for yes. Why no response when using "C" for close? This is a bad change from "XP."

I have noted that a letter in the right click menu is not underlined in "7" as in "XP." However, using the "XP" keys still works, except for 'close.'

Let me see if I can explain this so you guys can understand what my problem is.

Lets say I have just clicked on the Internet explorer and the window opened up just like it is suppose to do. Now lets say that you want to close that Explorer window.

What I have done for many many years all I have ever done was click on that red "X" in the upper right hand corner of the window and the window has always just went away or closed.

Now for some reason it won't do that anymore. Now if I move my mouse arrow to that red "X" and click on it the window stays open.

The windows will stay open as long as I leave my mouse arrow right on that red "X" . as soon as I move my mouse arrow off of the red "X" then and ONLY then will that window close!

Any suggestions guys? I have been coming to this fourm for a long time and also have been to others also. This is THE ONLY one that has helped me EVERY time.

So I guess this fourm has the BEST members. This fourm has helped me fix EVERY problem I have EVER asked about. I hope it will be the same this time.

Thanks.

Mike

Hey guys!

I'm getting this error when I try to upload my resume on to a website and so I'm unable to do any uploading:

"you cannot close microsoft office word because a dialog box is open office 2007"

I've had this error before and last time I deleted a windows update (can't remember what) but I'm afraid that it might have came back (blame it on the wife ). Anyways this error is linked to Norton which I don't use (using Avast).

using windows 7 (x64), office 2007, reproduces on all browsers. No processes that deal with office is running.

If anyone has any ideas as to how to get rid of this it would be lots of help. THanks.

I tried searching for this... but without the correct word to use (stutter) im sure others call it something different.

Anyway, On all 3 of my computers that I have Windows 7 (Both while in Beta and RC) whenever a window is "X'ed" out, it stutters before fading away. Where as in Vista it would be smooth as silk.

This is the only real issue I have from Using 7 RC full time. I have tremendous OCD and this little stutter gives me the impression that my computer is slow and or not working properly (because I have OCD)

Anyway, does anyone else have this issue? Is there a resolution? Am I seeing things?

Extra Info... Machines I am using all have 7 RC 1 on there now. (Tried both 32 & 64 bit versions)
Video Drivers I have tried were all official and beta drivers that have came out between the release of the 7 Beta through current.
Comp 1) Intel Q9550/4GB DDR2 800/NVidia Chipset w/9400 OnBoard Video (512MB Shared)
Comp 2) Intel i7 920 @ 3.8/6GB DDR3 1600/2x NVidia GTX 285's SLI 1GB

I typicalliy save a file I am working on and then just click the "X" in the upper right hand corner to exit a document. Should I forget to save, I generally receive a prompt asking if I want to save the document before exiting.

A friend insists that the proper procedure to exit a program is to click File then Close to properly close the program. He demonstrated by clicking the "X" to exit the program. When he double clicked the program icon on his desktop, the program opened to the document he was previously working on. (This doesn't happen with all software programs)His argument? "See it isn't really closed, if someone were to hack my computer via a wireless connection, they could see what I am working on so you should always use File, Close." I said "no problem because the wireless connection is encrypted with a password so someone cruisng WiFI's could access the connection anway."

I say the program document is closed when you use the "X" he insists it is still an open document. Anyone care to settle this one?

Possibly malware - anything openning ie on its own raises an alarm in my books. Post a HJT log to the malware removal section of the forum and let the experts take a look at it

Hi all
Previously the "Save Picture" box would put a web generated title in the box and automatically selected JPEG. Now the title box reads "untitled" and the only file options offered are "png" & "bmp"

Please note that a similar post has appeared, but the solution did not match the fault. I'm seeking to restore the automatic response to save picture, that might have been upset by antivirus clean-up programme.

Thank youin advance for considering my problem

Made a HUGE mistake, messed with the settings under "My Computer" > "Manage" > "Services> and also the "Local Users". Now having trouble, can not see my "Start and Task Bar", the "windows"+ ''e" is no longer working.

How can I restore the Services & the Local Users account without having to reinstall my whole computer? I am afraid I will loose lots of files... I do not remember what exactly I changed, but some of the "Services" I changed to "disable" now when I try to open properties and change them back, I am unable. The right click to get to properties is not working.

Your help is highly appreciated.

A:How to restore the defaults for "services" under "My Computer" > "Manage>

I am not sure about the "quick" way of restoring, but what you can do is go back to services, "RIGHT-CLICK" the white area select "HELP" then the third option is "Default settings for services"

you can see what the default was and manually restore it. I have tried to copy and paste it below

I have a green "ghost" window upon closing, and when minimizing a window that has any sort of animation or whatnot I suppose. It goes away almost immediately, but it's very irritating. Any thoughts?

In windows XP and earlier, the Windows had an option in Properties.
you could tell the Dos like programs weather or not to "Close on exit".

But, in windows 7, there is no checkbox for this in the program propteries.

How do i stop cmd.exe, and programs that execute in a DOS style box, from "Close On Exit" ?

too often i'm missing output that i need to see!

A:Stop "DOS" programs from "Close on exit"

Use cmd /k command_to_run

e.g.
cmd /k dir
cmd /k ipconfig /all

Running winxp up to date. Instead of the normal display of these buttons on the menu bar, minimize looks like a file folder, restore is a dark rectangle and close is an open square. Any drop down arrow might look like an hour glass (it is very small). The right arrows when you click on the desktop or the start menu look like computer mouses. Radio buttons might look like a wierd Q - hard to see even w/ my magnifier!! This computer only accesses the internet maybe 2x a wk during football season and the rest of the time it's for solitaire. I've rebooted but that did not help. McAfee runs weekly last on 10/30, spy sweeper last on 10/27.

Good Morning,

I would like to introduce myself. I am new to the forum. Should I address an issue inappropriately, kindly alert me.

Most recently, I have experienced multiple PC issues. Recently, I performed a System Recovery and encountered the following ?

1. Cannot perform a SYSTEM RESTORE. The message is: ?Restoration Incomplete. Your computer cannot be restored."

2. When I booted up this morning, and DID NOT HAVE A DESKTOP.
The screen was blank ? no Icons.

3. The items below are APPEARING IN MY TEMP FOLDER, and are located at: C:\DOCUME~1\COMPAQ~1\LOCALS~1\Temp:

........a. 415303181927525125.tmp
......... plus similar numbers.

........b. IswTmp
........c. msohtmlclip1
........d. msohtmlclip

I delete the above items through safe mode but they re-appear.
** I am MOST CONCERNED ABOUT Items 1 & 2.

SYSTEM SPECIFICATION:

? (DESKTOP PC) Windows XP
? (SP3) HP Compaq Presario 061 - Media Center Edition,
? AMD Athlon (m) 64 Processor / (X 86-Based PC - 32-bit package)
? MOTHERBOARD Chipset - ATI RADEON XPRESS 200 CHIPSET
? Version 5.1 / 2600 Build Processor

** If someone would give me some feedback, I would appreciate it tremendously.
** THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Kind regards,
AJ

A:NO DESKTOP after booting up & SYSTEM RESTORE "Incomplete" & "Strange" Temp Files

Usually when the machine has a "blank" desktop, the boot/startup process has been interupted or is frozen to before Explorer is launched.

You can launch Explorer manually be navigating C:\Windows and double-clicking "Explorer".

If successful, do the following:

Start>Run>(type) "msconfig" and turn off all non-MS services and all startups.

Then, Start>Run>(type) "cmd", and at the command prompt type "chkdsk /f" and schedule a chkdsk to run on next reboot.

Reboot system and report results.

Hi there,

I didn't really know how to google for this (although I did), so I didn't find anything proper and like to ask you: How do I remove the "labels" from drive types in "Computer" window? What I mean:
These labels above the different drives are really annoying, as I'm accustomed at one item after another and somehow one could change it to that view in every OS every since (XP, Vista), but now it doesn't seem to work? (I tried all the context menu items )

Any ideas? Thanks for your help in advance, much appreciated!

Kind regards

When I press "open file" in the program "Business Intelligence" of an Office

instead of "list" view.
How can I do this?
Is this a registry default that can be changed?
Thanks,

Sorry for the convoluted title, but it was the best I could come up with. My company is running IE 6 across the board. Up until Friday the 6th, when getting the "The webpage you are viewing is trying to close this window. Do you want to close this window?" dialogue and clicking Yes or OK ( dont remember how it presents) it would close the window. Now it does not. Clicking just leaves the message active and does nothing. What could have changed this functionality. Not IE patches have been installed since this started happening.

Thanks,

Jason

A:[SOLVED] Internet Explor 6 ""The webpage you are viewing is trying to close"

Disregard. Turns out the "close.window()" call is there, but is being blocked by a security update for Exchange/OWA that went in this weekend.
