1year old computer loading slowly

Q: 1year old computer loading slowly

My computer is loading slow. It is slow on startup, although I disabled cloud applications such as google drive and dropbox. It takes a long time to even load the file explorer. When I load Task Manager it show that disk usage is on 100%. Even after I've done the factory restore it said it couldn't delete all files.

I recommend trying the free service from Zip Cloud. It's currently our users' favorite backup and storage solution and will save you headaches down the line.

You can get it direct from this link http://goo.gl/rFYDxc. (This link will open the Zip Cloud homepage.)

Hey everyone... I'm getting concerned about a problem that popped up in the past few days. It seems to be persistent, but intermittently goes away.

My browsers are loading websites extremely slowly. Even cached websites will take 30-60 seconds to load. I primarily use Chrome - for instance - and it gets stuck on "sending request" for a long time before anything pops up. I ran a virus and a few malware scans and found nothing. Prior to this starting everything was working normally.

I'm running Windows XP SP3, haven't installed anything new recently and don't have any persistent network connections running. I haven't changed any network settings or hardware. I originally thought it was an ISP issue, but my tablet, my phone, and my roommates computers are not having this problem. It's only my desktop.

I'm concerned that it could be some sort of malware problem, but I have no idea what to try next. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Have you ran any security scans lately? it may be Malware/spyware.. are you being randomly redirected to different pages?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Seems that my computer has good days and bad. Somedays it is extremely slow while online (but laptop connected to same network is fast). I don't know if the updates from Windows has anything to do with it, but it seems that computer slows more and more everytime an update is installed. For a few days now I've been experiencing extremely slow loading times upon startup, and whenever I try and open ANY application. My Windows XP loading screen on startup takes about 1-2 minutes to load, whereas before it only took ~10 seconds. My mouse has also begun freezing every few seconds, only momentarily. I've tried tonnes of AntiVirus, AntiSpyware, etc, but nothing has helped this problem (thought I've gotten rid of alot of problems I didn't know I had).

This is the first forum I've tried as it looks the most professional.

I've read through some other articles, and already made up a HijackThis file, incase it's needed, as is the case in most articles I've read;

it was working perfectly fine just a few days ago with the latest turbo boost drivers: 8.15.10.2302
suddenly, i don't know what happened (the last thing i did was change the font dpi settings) but now, loading the os takes much longer and with those same drivers, the screen displays nothing but black even after reinstalling them in safe mode.

i've resorted to using the older drivers: 7.15.10.1908 which actually work perfectly, but i'm very concerned about what may have caused this in the first place.

one possible clue: when loading the os in safe mode, it actually hangs for about 20 seconds on a file that it also hung with when attempting to load the os from a hdd that then shortly died. could it be that this hdd is dying?

Hi,

My name is Debbie.

If you run the Hardware Diagnostics you might be able to find the cause of this continuous Slow Hard drive issues.
Further I would suggest you to run scan of good Antivirus and spyware which might be able to pick some infections from your system. Try to disable some start up items by going into MSCONFIG.

For further assistance please reply

Thanks & Regards

Hey guys, for the past 2 days everything I have loaded ranging from Youtube Videos/ Normal Google webpages/ buffering twitch streams has being going really slow or just not loaded at all, before these 2 days everything would load pretty fast and I would not see any problems whatsoever. If i searched for something on Google now and clicked on a link I would most likely see a blank white screen forever more until I clicked refresh to see it load instantly, sometimes if I left it it would come up saying 'This Webpage is not available'. Furthermore with YouTube videos I cannot buffer videos as quick as I once could, It would either come up with a black screen or crash 1/10 of the way through the video, also for Twitch.tv I can barely even watch streams now as It will just be a grey screen with 'loading video' at the bottum just for it to come up and say 'failed to load video', dont get me wrong, sometimes I will be able to perfectly load a video on YouTube/twitch but for these last 2 days that is a rarity. I have noticed that it is sometimes to do with what I have previously clicked on, for example if I clicked on a youtube video/webpage before It will load fine, sometimes not but you get the draft (I know this is to do with cookies but before these 2 days I didn't have any problems loading webpages or buffering YouTube videos on 720p, now I would start on 360p and if I changed that to 720p it will probably not buffer fast enough)

My firefox inexplicably stopped working properly recently. There are certain webpages that fail to load whatsoever (espn.com, for instance), and there are other webpages that load extremely slowly (somethingawful.com, for instance). Both of these websites work fine on IE.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled firefox but that didn't cure the situation. I have Symantec antivirus and it is always running. I don't usually download any sort of file that should put my computer in jeopardy, but I cannot figure out why it's running so poorly recently.

I hope I'm attaching all of the correct files:

Oh, also, file attachments don't work in Firefox or IE.

Please help, my computer isn't very useful right now. Here's the deal:

1. My computer keeps on freezing up on me, and I don't even have many programs running. When my computer finally starts up, I log onto windows, and it takes seriously two or three minutes for windows to load; two weeks ago it took 20-30 seconds for windows to load. When windows finally loads, and I click on a program (ie. Internet Explorer or Opera Web Browser), it takes another five to seven minutes for one the programs to appear on the screen, then another minute or two for the program to load. When I close a program, it does one of two things; my computer will freeze, and I'll have to restart it; or, it will take a couple of minutes to close the program. And I'm just working with the basics; Internet explorer, opera, open office, and windows media. I'm trying to add music to my newly added iTunes library, but that's almost impossible.

2. My computer won't shut down. This computer is only seven months old, it's too young for such problems. When I go to shut my computer down, I select the shut down icon from the start menu, and expect my computer to shut down. Rather than shutting down, windows pop up telling me that the programs that I had been running are not responding, and I have the option to wait or end the program. I end the program, and the window comes up again, it's almost like my computer isn't properly responding to its commands. Again ... Read more

Hi. My computer has been running much slower than normal. When you open a new window or even try to select a user from the first screen, it really takes its time. Even once the window is open, you can still hear the wheels turning inside the box like it is really struggling to run its basic operating system. When you type something into a web page text box, there is a lag from when I press the key to when the letter shows up.

I have Windows XP and an AMD processor (I don't know which one).

Thanks

Hi, I joined these forums for the specific purpose of finding a solution to this problem i have that's driving me insane
simply, whenever i open up My Pictures, for a while the folder just sits there, with the default folder icons and the image type icons (as opposed to the actual thumbnails corresponding with the picture/folder)
then after about a minute the pictures all start to show up, fairly quickly, and after about 30 more seconds the folder icons begin showing up properly..
during this whole process my cpu usage goes up to 100% and my other programs naturally slow down.
i have already tried making sure i cache thumbnails, but it doesn't work

similarly, in other folders too, when i download a new picture or movie and then open up that folder, even after the other pictures take a while to load, the new picture takes an even longer period of time to load
and if i download like 10 pictures this becomes a problem because it just goes one by one down the list, like 30 seconds for each subsequent thumbnail to load

btw i use windows xp home edition
and i have about 1gig ram and 2.8Ghz processor so my computer capabilities should not be the issue.. i think?

the problem has been occuring for a long while now, and i don't remember there being a day when i installed or did anything for this to start happening...

i know it's a long description but i'm just telling you everything i can, in the hopes that someone could help me

I had this problem after updating Geforce Experience to latest Version, Boot time went from 36 seconds to 1 min 55 seconds, after this fix I got from Geforce Experience Forum, it went back to 36 seconds.
Go into your Services (Task Manager > Services > Open Services or just Search for it)Find NVIDIA Streamer ServiceRight Click > PropertiesChange Startup Type to Automatic (Delayed Start) or Disable

If you use Nvidia shield products to stream your PC games, you will have to wait a few minutes until it starts up again after boot or manually start this service to get that functionality back. Only select disable if you do not care for this feature.

Hi LM2008, see if this helps.

Open Windows Explorer. Click Organize, then click Folder and search Options. Click the View Tab and select Always show icons, never thumbnails and select OK.

If this doesn't help try running an SFC Scan or Rebuilding the Icon Cache.

Lastly, if none of the above helps I would run a Malwarebytes and MSE Scan

Alright, so. I have been visiting this one site for a good four years now and all of a sudden (three days ago) the site started loading extremely slow (40-60 seconds for each page). All other websites load as they normally do, but this one site has been lagging.

Both my laptop and desktop are experiencing the same issue. When I googled for an answer, someone had said it may have to do with the router and to change a few letters on the router MAC address (something about visiting the site too much on both computers and causing confusion somewhere along the connection). I did so and got knocked off my internet, but I thought it was going to work out anyways since another option was to reset the router (which I did). Still though, this one website won't load. I talked to members on the forum and the forum heads about if there were any server changes, but they said none and everything was working fine on their end.

I was also using IE, so I downloaded google chrome, yet I'm experiencing the same problem. And I emptied the cache and cookies.

Hopefully this all makes sense... thanks!

I thought I had solved the "slow" problem with this Dell Latitude D410 by installing the maximum RAM. However, the following window keeps popping up when XP loads:

"Verify application requirements. This may take a few moments.

TAG: 2CHHQB1

Upgraded from 512MB to 2GB RAM.

For some reason, it seems to load slower than before. I had performed a tune-up consisting of CCLEANER registry cleaner and did all the fixes. I have re-installed what Ccleaner removed thinking that may be the problem and it isn't. I had performed a defrag with Defraggler. I deselected a few start-up items and have since re-enabled them. I also ran Spybot, Malwarebytes and Webroot virus scan and subsequent removal. I have uninstalled Webroot. but kept Spybot on and downloaded and installed WSE.

I guess I am not sure what is left to do. I am primarily interested, however, in stopping the alert window about verifying application requirements. Any ideas would be great—short of fixing it with a hammer, if you know what I mean?

Thanks

If you used a registry cleaner that might be why theres a problem. we dont recommend using any of those programs because they can end up damaging the operating system to the point where all you can do is a complete reinstall.

I have deleted the temp files, then I alternately ran a 'Find' and searched for '*.tmp' and deleted all that came up (except for half a dozen that the system wanted to keep for whatever reason.) Also deleted the cookies from the cookie file. However, I still had a problem. Then I defraged the system. But that didn't help either. Would anyone have any comments, suggestions, or ideas on how to correct this problem?

Download Spybod S&D and scan your PC for spyware.

Try to repair IE from add/remove programs if it shows there.
(If you click IE and then add/remove you will have this option)

Think also if you have put any add-on or pop-up stopper lately, sometimes they don't work well...

I had a similiar problem after I had replaced my wireless router. I noticed I had two TCP/IP in my Wireless Network Connection properties and removed the one with the version. Go to Control Panel/Network Connections/Right click on Wireless Network Connections/Click on Properties/On the general look in the window labeled "This connection used the following items" see if you have two Internet ProTocols (TCP/IP) and remove the one with the version.

Hi,
I recently followed some advice and removed Norton Security using the Norton removal program. I then installed Grisoft Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware. I have not installed a firewall other than Microsoft's but I am behind a router. I have basically the same set up on my home computer (which recently had the hard drive replaced) and have no problems with loading speed.
Don't know if this info is helpful but I have:
Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002, 1300 MHz, 1.29 GHZ, 512 MB of RAM, SP2, Intermet Explorer 7.0. Hard drive is 12.0 GB of used space and 21.2 GB of available space.
I am still having problems with web pages loading slowly but not as bad as when Norton was the problem. Pages used to load quickly when I would deactivate Norton. Now it just takes a couple minutes to load a page for no reason that I can determine.
Thanks in advance for for any help and advice!

I just got a new comp, intel D865G motherboard, with 2.6Mhz, 800Mhz FSB with hyper threading. Anyways, on startup, between the Intel startup screen and the Win XP loading screen there's a black screen. For most computers, this part of the startup process doesn't take very long, but for my comp, it's takes a good 1 to 1.5 min I'd say, that seems pretty long to me. The funny thing is, the computer or the HD doesn't make any noise at this time.

Anybody else had this problem before? Could I have possibly misconnected or not connected something? (not likely though).

Have you tried refreshing your PC? This will find any errors in Windows without deleting or modifying your apps or files.

To do this on Windows 8.1:
PC Settings > Update and Recovery> Advanced Startup

After Advanced Startup click 'Troubleshoot' and then click 'Refresh'

To do this in Windows 8:
PC Settings > General > Refresh your PC

Please note you will need your installation media (USB or CD you used to install Windows) to preform this task.
You will also need administrative privileges.

Hello

I wonder if someone would kindly look into the slowness of this site. http://www.racingpost.co.uk

They have updated the site but the new site hangs a lot when loading. I think it may have something to do with the enormous amount of javascript they are using in the code - especially for loading images.

I have used both Firefox and IE but the problem occurs with both browsers.

Is there any technical help anyone can offer if it is just my computer having these problems.

Very Best Wishes

Jrob

I just went to that link in Firefox with a DSL connection and it loaded in a blink of an eye. One of two things I can think of for you; 1. Your internet connection at the time is just really sluggish, 2. Your computer is just really slow - maybe too many programs open and running at the same time.

I've dumped the cache, run Spybot, Adaware, and scanned for viruses. Nothing speeds up the slow loading speed. Sometimes I have to hit the refresh button to make the page finish loading.

Would someone please look at the HJT log and see if there's something strange? Thanks so much.

I am having this issue since 20 days. I have a 4mbps connection and sites are loading quite slowly since they were a month ago. Some sites even take 3-4 whole minutes to load with "static- hw.www.123456.com",and some video players will take extra 20-30 seconds than usual to load, some features/options/thumbnails on some sites wont even load, like the one on imdb where you can add a movie to your watchlist, that icon isnt loading at all. Please help

The problem started when I download some file with virus/spyware in it. Gave me a couple of problems, then I started looking for solution online and I looked at some solutions and I went to "internet options > connections >lan settings" and I unchecked the "use a proxy server for your LAN". Other than that I ran virus scan with my Bitdefender Total Security 2016 and got rid of all the infected files,I even used Malwarebytes and CCleaner. All the issues were resolved except this one,my anti virus is showing that my PC is in good condition.

Anything I could try? And could any other people check if the sites are loading at normal speeds for them?

Fred, no I do not know the cause, but you can probably figure it out. Try to load in safe mode. If it works use the clean boot procedure to find the cause.

Hi,
I use both firefox and Internet explorer, and recently they have been loading very slowly. My trouble is mostly with firefox, but internet explorer becomes very slow at times as well. One of the first changes I noticed is that when I tried opening PDF files I kept getting a message that said safe mode was disabled. I ended up clicking some option that said something like "always open with safe mode disabled" just so I would stop getting the pop up. When I use gmail in firefox it always freezes and I get a message saying "some functions may not be working properly/ try switching to basic HTML". Gmail works fine in internet explorer though. Many times firefox and internet explorer will just freeze and stop working and I have to restart the browser. Sometime firefox won't even open when I click on it. I've tried running my computer in safe mode, and firefox works a lot faster in safe mode. I used malwarebytes to see if I have a virus but it doesn't detect anything. Any ideas/suggestions? I've already tried disabling add-ons.

My browser of choice is Firefox but I have the same problems in Chrome also. First a little background. I'm running Windows 8.1 for the last month (thanks to TECHNET) and up until 1 week ago I had Roadrunner light with download speeds around 9 to 10 Mbps. Last week I upgraded to higher speed Roadrunner and am now getting download speeds of around 35 Mbps consistantly.

Now my problem: Several forum pages that I frequent USED to load instantly and when clicking on a post would load instantly. Now certain pages may take up to 45 seconds to 1 minute or sometimes not at all. This happens most of the time but not all the time. This happens whether I'm using Firefox, Chrome or IE. I have cleared cookies, history, search, cashe in an attempt to solve this problem.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what my problems are? Thanks in advance.

I've been affected by pretty much the same issue. After doing a bit of research, I've found my current router is not working well with 8.1 due to the way dns is handled.

There may be other routers/modems that may be affected, but what I've done to fix the issue temporarily.

Go to Control Panel, select Network and Internet.

Select Network and Sharing, then select Change Adaptor Settings to the left of the window.

I use WiFi, so I Right clicked on WiFi, and selected properties.

Double click on Internet Protocol Version 4 in the list.

Tick the Use The following DNS server addresses.

I used Google's public DNS addresses.

Preferred DNS server : 8.8.8.8
Alternate DNS server : 8.8.4.4

Hopefully this helps you out a bit.

According to my ISP, there is a fix to be rolled out for the modem I am currently using, so this is just a temporary fix. I'm pretty sure there are others that are affected as well.
