Slow Mouse Cursor and Keyboard Respone

Q: Slow Mouse Cursor and Keyboard Respone

I'm running an Acer Aspire with Windows 7 that I bought back in February. Since I've owned it, I've had an intermittent issue wherein the mouse and keyboard inputs slow way down: the pointer will "stutter" when I move the mouse and there's a small delay to all my keyboard inputs. Just for s&g, I opened up the Performance tab in Task Manager the last time the problem cropped up (about 20 minutes ago), and my CPU usage shot up to 50% or more when I moved the mouse; normally it's about 20%.

In any case, simply restarting gets rid of the problem, at least for a few days or so, sometimes longer.

Any ideas as to what might be causing this and how to fix it?

Preferred Solution: Slow Mouse Cursor and Keyboard Respone

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

How can I control the mouse cursor with my keyboard in Windows XP Pro? Sure it may not be as nice as the mouse and therefore I wouldn't use it always. Just when I code and need to do a little navigating. This way I wouldn't need to keep swaping from keyboard to mouse.

A:HOW: Use keyboard to control mouse cursor

I don't know if Win XP has the function, but go to Start, Help and search for mousekey.

In win98, you would enable it by going to accessibility options and turning it on there.

Hi guys, need your help!

The cursor scrolls automtically, not in all programs - but in youtube it puts the volume up to max, or in the search bar it scrolls all the way to the right - in photoshop it keeps scrolling the window to the max right, or in notepad it scrolls all the way down to the bottom. Even on the settings in windows 10 I find it difficult to click on what I want as it scrolls down to the bottom straight away

I ve tried a different keyboard, also tried the keyboard testor to see if one of the keys were switched on somehow, and I ve unplugged the mouse and it still happens. So I am out of ideas!

Is there a way to move the focus to check boxes on websites and in programs without using the mouse?

Let's say you're in the options menu of a program like Firefox or MS Office, and there are options with boxes you can check or uncheck. I want to be able to navigate to the boxes using the keyboard instead of the mouse.

What I find is, you usually can move the focus to the item description (i.e. highlight the text) using Tab, but that only gets to the item description, not the check box. Which is odd, because why would anyone ever need to highlight the text in a program's menus?

Once in a while it does work - you can tab to the check box and check/uncheck using something like shift-click. But I can't remember where that works. Maybe MS Office but I don't have it on this computer.

I am on a laptop, where it would save a lot of moving the mouse around. It might not be much of a time-saver on a desktop.

Hi All, I visit thee forums frequently but rarely post. Anyhow, on to my issue -

I am running an HTPC on Win7 64-bit. I have a Microsoft Arc keyboard, no mouse. I can do most navigation, etc with a keyboard fine (majority of the time it's in Media Center anyhow) but there are a few applications/buttons that are inaccessible without using a mouse/cursor. Windows has Mouse Keys built-in but you must use the numeric keypad to control which is not an option for me (or most laptop users probably). I have done some searching but haven't found a solution yet. Ideally, in a perfect world, I wish I could do something as simple as when I hold down another button the arrow keys could be used to move mouse instead of normal arrow key movement.

I purchased a A485 and worked well but quickly replaced Mech harddrive with SSD. After reinstalling windows 10 I noticed I loss the function of the backlit keyboard, as well as my mouse cursor kept freeze when using the Track point when I would use the middle button for scrolling. all drivers up-to-date and even tried reinstalling windows and drivers again...still have this issue the mouse freezing is the must fustrating since I primarily use the Trackpoint to control my mouse functions. I found that locking (windows + L) and login back in frees up the mouse again...but typically freezes shortly after pretty fustrating, especially when one of the main reasons I buy Lenovo is their trackpoint. I've seen people have similar issues but no resolutions in their threads.

Most of the time my mouse works just normal, but sometimes the cursor gets really slow for several minutes and lags behind the movements I make with the mouse. I checked CPU usage while that happened, because my first assumption was that the cpu was at 100%, but cpu usage was around 10-15%, so that's not the cause.Because of the slow mouse, 7 feels much slower than Vista, although in reality it is probably as fast as Vista or even faster.Any ideas what could be causing this? It's really annoying!I use a Microsoft Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000.Thanks,Mathias

A:Mouse cursor sometimes gets really slow

If using the Drivers for the device did not work then at this time there is not going to be a fix.  You will have to wait for a updated version of the drivers for it to be fully compliant.  While i know that it is a Microsoft mouse on a Microsoft OS and it should work, it is just something that has to be worked out.  Submit Feedback on this issue.

I just purchased this laptop for my wife, Dell Inspiron 15 i7559

Buy Dell Inspiron 15 i7559-5012GRY Signature Edition Laptop - Microsoft Store

Opened up box, updated all drivers etc. and for whatever reason the mouse cursor on the desktop moves really slow and on screen movement is way behind the trackpad finger movements. If I have an app open, internet browser, any app, the mouse pointer behaves normal. If the app is snapped to half the screen, mouse pointer is fine over half with the open app, but slow on the desktop half.

When I boot up, the mouse behaves fine for about 10 seconds until all drivers/startup apps load, then it goes back to a crawl.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks for this great website. I've gone thru the process for posting log. My Panda virus scan took many hours...whew...

A few months ago, I opened a file sent to me from yahoo messenger friend. After that, my mouse cursor took control. Even now as I try to post this log... I'm fighting it!

It moves up the screen to the top and across to the right and then tries to click the X. Yesterday when scanning with Panda, it closed the virus scan twice... so frustrating.

My start up is now taking close to 10 minutes from turning computer on to finally being able to start work.

Please let me know if I can provide further info such as the ActiveScan.txt

I have a Windows 7 mutli touch device and every time i touch the screen i get a stupid mouse graphic. Its really annoying because it has a tendency to get in the way when i am tapping around with my fingers on the screen. I have been unable to find anything
about such a "feature" on the webs. As various combinations including "mouse" and "graphic" and "windows 7" are pretty vanilla search terms.
I am guessing it is some lame "accessability" feature but i have no idea how to fix. please help

That is called the Touch Pointer, its easy to turn off once you know where to look.
Click Start, type pen in the search box or open control panel aand click Pen and touch.
Click the touch tab and uncheck Show the touch pointer... then just click ok to  close the dialog and the ghostly mouse picture will be gone.

I just added 128MB of RAM to a friend's computer. Her computer is a Compaq Celeron 700MHz with (orginally) 64MB of RAM. The problem is that now the keyboard and mouse are too slow. When I turn on the computer it takes like two minutes to turn on the LEDs in the keyboard.

I'm using a generic keyboard and mouse which works perfectly in my own computer, but are slow in my friend's. Before adding the memory the computer was working, she only turned it off, unplugged all the external devices and carry it to home because she wanted that I bought and installed the correct type of memory.

The computer is not slow, I put a CD of Windows XP and it worked fine (remember that it starts alone if you don't press any key) until the screen where you have to configure the system, there I realized that the keyboard was not dead, just extremely slow.

What I have already done:
1) Unplug the additional 128MB of RAM, now it only has 64MB.
2) Reset the BIOS.
3) Test the keyboard and mouse in other computer (and it works fine).
4) Disconnect the hard disk to work only with the BIOS menu, same thing.
5) Clean the motherboard with compressed air.
6) Pray

My questions:
1) The original RAM was 64MB PC100 CL2, I added 128MB PC100 CL3, it is possible that this caused the problem (but consider that I already unplugged the 128MB module)?
2) I've read that plugging and unplugging the mouse and keyboard while the computer is running can fry the ports, but why the LEDs are workin... Read more

On my Dell Optiplex 745 I am having similar problem (http://forums.techguy.org/malware-r...s/716287-slow-performance-quad-core-xeon.html).
The computer stops responding to keyboard or mouse inputs for few milliseconds after every few seconds. Its not that the response is slow, wherein I expect whatever I type to appear after the momentory system hang. It actually either eats up couple of letters that I typed and takes double input for some other letters. I suspect it is because of patchlink update, but even after killing tth pddm.exe process from the task manager or machine restart I aam having same behaviour. It becomes exttremely difficult to type more than 2 sentences. It typically happens in the afternoon.
Even the mouse response is veery poor as the mouse moves in jerks and doees''t select the actual item I wish to select.
The computer is in company intranet with Symantec anti-virus corporate edition with very regular updates. So II dont suspect any virus attack.

This the second time that immediatly post microsoft update there is a long delay before the mouse and keyboard are operative.
They work for the cmos boot then turn off for 2 or 3 minutes before allowing password for windows.

I had to set my computer to a prior setting last time.

I also notice that when I allow this state to proceed - inevitably I have trouble with my mouse - as though someone else is using it.

Anyone else having this problem?

I am no longer having a problem, but am posting this in case it helps someone else.

I installed Windows 7 Professional with SP1 on three computers, all made by the same manufacturer, and had a problem with Windows 7 automatically choosing incompatible display drivers during the installation.

The first part of the installation where I formatted and partitioned the drive went OK. When installation reached the point where I set up an intial user account and computer name, the keyboard and mouse became very slow. Each character I typed took 5-10 seconds to display, and each mouse click took the same time to process. The behavior continued through the rest of the installation (entering the product key, setting the date and time), and continued at the end when the desktop and taskbar appeared.

After the first computer, I knew what to do. I popped in the driver CD that comes with the computer and installed the Intel graphics drivers, replacing the drivers that Windows 7 automatically installed (I should note that the driver Windows 7 installed was for the correct graphics adapter, just not compatible).

FYI, the computers are rackmount chassis with single board computers having embedded graphics, made by ADLINK Technology:
Nupro-842 with Intel 965 graphics (GMA 3000), and Nupro-E320 with Intel Q45 Express graphics.

I've been having this issue since the last Windows 10 update, When I first power on the computer the mouse and keyboard are slow to respond as if there is lag between them and the computer. Also the HDD activity light is going nuts. When I restart the computer everything goes back to normal. I've disabled all 3rd party start up services and programs, and this did not seem to help. Any thoughts? I'm at the point where I am ready to do a fresh install of Windows 7 as I have that CD and the Windows 10 was the free upgrade.

This seems to happen mostly after alt tabbing from a game or even after closing a game. It doesn't matter if the game is full screen or borderless window.

What happens is that the cursor seems to not change into the appropriate cursor (or when it does it does it slowly), i.e. if I mouse over links I still get the arrow cursor instead of the hand cursor. The most annoying aspect is when it turns in to a text cursor split in half (see screenshot), it seems to go away after a while and returns to normal functionality, usually after moving it quite a bit.

I have tried changing the cursor style then changing back, as well as turning trails on and off.

Sorry for the quality of the screenshot I had to take it with my phone because I can't seem to capture the cursor. Happy to give more information on my system if required just not sure what you'd need atm.

Hi all,
Does anyone know why a Microsoft wireless mouse / keyboard combo. would cause a computer to be very slow booting up? By slow, I mean many, many minutes. I think the wireless receiver says it's version 2.1 This is a friends computer, and I don't have it in front of me right now. It is a newer computer, with XP so there isn't a problem with it being short on memory, or processor speed.

Is this a laptop or a desktop? What is the make and model# of your computer/motherboard?
Boot into Setup (Bios) go to Integrated Peripherals look for Legacy USB or USB mouse, if it is disabled, using the arrow key, Enable it. Save and Exit.
Go to the computer manufacturers support/download drivers site. type in your make and model # and download the Chipset driver (for USB Support)
Also, go to Start/Search and type CMD Right click the CMD results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Command Prompt type SFC /scannow and press enter. This will replace any missing or corrupted system files.

You can turn off the page file but it won't likely help, in fact it's recommended to leave it on for a few things regardless if you lots of RAM or not, and 8GB's is not really enough RAM to suggest turning off the page file.

When you say it's "takes time to load", what exactly do you mean? And how slow is it?

Hi. The other day my mouse-cursor just started to move and wiggle, chaotically, and by itself towards the right side of the screen.. I have tried to switch mouse and unplug, but it doesn't help, so I figure it has to be some kind of virus or malware, yea? When it happened I installed Trend Micro Internet Security and ran a scan of my computer. It came up with one so called "generic Trojan" named "services.exe" located in C:/Windows AND one virus named "a.exe" located in C:/Windows/System32.

I went into the windows folder and found the trojan file "services.exe" to maybe try and delete it, dunno if I should've, but I was pretty aggrevated at the time, but anyway I couldn't because I needed "permission" from vista. I also looked up the virus file called "a.exe" in the system32 folder, where trend micro told me it was, but I could not find it in any searches.

Anyway, this is all very frustrating to me, because I use my computer for work, and obviously a chaotically, wiggly mouse makes it quite hard for me to do anything at all.. so I would highly appreciate some help with getting rid of whatever it is doing this!

Welcome to TSF hoofbite,

Noooo, you sure do not want to be deleting files you are not sure of, and especially those like "services.exe" which is usually an essential (and protected) system file. Not seeing any infection here so far - let's run a repair scan then check after.

To keep them from interfering with the repairs, be sure to temporarily disable all antivirus/anti-spyware softwares while these steps are being completed. This can usually be done through right clicking the software's Taskbar icons, or accessing each software through Start - Programs.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here.

My mouse cursor will randomly freeze or disappear, yet it remains active. I can still use it by feel. If I turn mouse trails on a duplicate mouse shows up that works and the frozen one remains, although its not completely frozen as it will still change into other cursors ie the hourglass. Eventually mouse trails turn off all on its own and im left with no cursor again. I've updated drivers and checked all the settings and am left with no solution. Any help would be very appreciated.

Hi I'm having a problem that I really can't seem to resolve: the image of my cursor freezes about 5 seconds after I log in, but the actual pointer still works i.e. I can still use the mouse, it's just that the cursor doesn't correspond to what I'm actually pointing at. At first this occurred randomly, sometimes after 25-30 mins of use, but now it does it every time, straight away.

One way I've found to get around it is to turn on mouse trails at the lowest setting, this lets me see the trails of the cursor (at the correct location), which at least lets me know what I'm clicking on.

I've tried:
Removing and reinstalling the drivers
Trying a different (ps/2) mouse
Trying a different USB port
Removing spyware etc with Spybot, AVG
Updating to the latest drivers
Updating Windows (which is when it changed from being random to every time)

Any ideas on this one?
Thanks in advance! James

Hi Guys, so I've just finished a HTPC build and using HippoRemote on the iPhone to control Windows. Works great if I have a mouse plugged in but as soon as I remove the mouse the cursor hides itself. I can still click on things etc but it makes it pretty hard to do without the cursor being visible.

Is there a way to force Windows 8 to always show the cursor? I'm guessing it disables the cursor if no mouse is plugged in so one option is to buy a wireless mouse dongle and plug that in to trick Windows into thinking I am using a mouse, but I'd rather not if I don't have to.

Any ideas?

I am new to these forums so I have no idea where to post this.

Anyways, here's my problem, every few or so seconds my mouse cursor will have the spiral circle and it will act as if I clicked onto the toolbar at the bottom. For example, if I am typing an assignment, I will have to constantly click on the text box to start typing again. This is a very serious and annoying problem.

Please help me!
