Radeon Control Centre Messing With Fan Speed

Q: Radeon Control Centre Messing With Fan Speed

I have an AMD/Radeon R9 280 GPU. It works great for the limited gaming that I do, and performs really well, even at ultra settings. The only problem with it is that the automatic fan control in the driver software package does not work and never has. I can merrily play a game and the card's fan will stay at 20% until it overheats and practically catches fire. At least the card stops working before it causes damage and I can shut down.

I usually have the fan set manually at 65% and this covers me for even intense gaming, as the card never breaks 45C that way.

I noticed a problem the other day when I was playing a game. I could smell something getting really hot and I checked my temps. The GPU was over 70C and the fan was running at 20%. Just then my monitors went black and the audio continued in the game. My card had shut down. Checking the fan control when I got the PC rebooted, it was set to Auto and 20%. I reset the fan control to manual and 65% and everything was fine. Until I rebooted, then the fan control went back to Auto. I can set the card to manual but the settings will not persist like they used to over reboots.

AV scans came back negative, and I haven't updated the driver for over a month. This has just happened in the past few days. I can't figure this out.

I'm out of ideas and would really appreciate any advice. I won't even mind heckling from you Nvidia guys out there.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi all,

I'm using a HP ENVY 14-2020NR and I've had this problem for quite a while now but it has never bothered me until recently as I began playing Diablo and was surprised that my Envy was struggling to cope with medium-low graphics. When I first bought it, I was able to load up catalyst control centre and assign programs to integrated/dedicated graphics however now I cannot load it up at all.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the graphics drivers from HP with no avail.

I now suspect that the AMD graphics card in my laptop may be faulty and the notebook has resigned to using the intel graphics only.

When I right click the catalyst control icon in the system try, I see only 1. Mobile Intel(R) HD Graphics with no mention of the radeon HD graphics.

In Device manager however I see both AMD Radeon and Mobile Intel(R) HD Graphics with no errors in either of them.

In Control Panel I see no Catalyst control centre. However I can see in the windows start menu but when clicking it, nothing loads up.

I installed the drivers provided by HP and not AMD or Intel.

Any help on the issue is welcome, thank you in advance!

I have Media Centre installed on my Packard Bell PC. Two weeks ago, the power supply gave in so I went to a hardware store and when I got paid last week, I got a new one which was installed for me. He also put something inside which I believe is a RAM (helps the computer run faster).

Anyways, I was soo happy to get my computer back on but now I have these problems:

1. I cant hear sound in live TV, only recorded TV. (When I got the power supply changed, I had to buy new speakers. The speakers that came with the PC had a purple and green cable but the new power supply only had a connection for the green cable so the hardware people said I should buy new speakers which I did, Phillips surround sound. One cable goes into the back and the other cable which is a socket, is the power cable).
2. I have to be at my computer when it records, otherwise, when I come back to view what I recorded, it recordes in Digital Audio (blue screen) and it records as it its been fast forwarded.
3. I dont have all the channels available. I used to have 78 channels but now I only have 68 (this doesnt include standard channels like Channel 4, ITV 1 etc). Ive downloaded the guide, I even went on the Microsoft technical website but the info doesnt coincide with what I have on my system... Its all gobbledygook

I know alot about computers but when it comes to the technical stuff, Im really basic so I will need STEP BY STEP instructions on how to resolve this.. If you need part numbers, tell me how to fi... Read more

I have a Toshiba Satellite 1115-s107 with a Mobility Radeon 16MB video card. About a year ago I started getting odd green and purple streaks in DVD playback through the system. It does this in Windows Media Player, WinDVD, or any other player. I have plugged an external DVD to the system to check for errors in my drive. I have, as much as possible, updated my drivers from ATI (which is dated at 2002). I have directx 9 installed. I am running Windows XP Home Edition.
Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening and what to do about it?

Even in PowerDVD? if yes, you should trash your old laptop and buy a used one.

Hi, i currently got two of the Asus AEH4870 gpu's (Ati Radeon 4870 Hd). The problem is that i can't find out whether it's a hardware issue or a software issue. I've been formating and reinstalling drivers for weeks now, and disabled the HD Audio ports on the two cards but the computer always freezes. Usually only a few moments after launching a movie, or an hour or so after listening to music. The whole picture freezes, and the sound is lagging a few times and then end up playing the same sound untill I restart the computer. Most of the time I only get the "how would you like to start windows" screen, where I can choose between secure w/ and w/out wlan and such. But sometimes I even get a BIOS screen, where it tells me to go into BIOS to fix the problem.. I seriously have no clue whats wrong.. I've tried everything. And the system doesn't crash and restarts itself, it only freezes..

I have been experiencing problems for a couple of weeks. It may or may not be related to Win 10 update. I say this because after I first installed Win 10, everything was fine. No issues at all.

-Then the Volume button in the System Tray became somewhat non-functioning. Left-click brings no response other than the spinning blue circle for a few seconds. I can R-click which opens up Volume Mixer but that is messed up too. Often one if the "columns" is missing, as you can see in the attached screen shot.

-Now none of the icons in the System Tray will respond to L-click.

-MS Edge used to sit at the bottom of my screen. It disappeared.

-If I try to open Edge via Start menu, it doesn't open. Edge appears to be dead.

-Search bar at bottom of screen is not functioning

-Now Twitter is acting strange. Things often change to "R-click highlight blue". If I try to edit Tweet, the highlight blue shows up again at the cursor and eats the letters up as I type. THE HORROR!!!

Anyway, these are the problems I have been experiencing. They come across as "virus and/or malware" to me. I would be ever so grateful for guidance through the process. I saw the stickied post with the various tools but am not comfortable trying these things out on my own, for now.

Ok i've had my gfx for about a month now and i noticed this when i first got it and the same thing remains today. When i click the overdrive tab in Catylist control centre it says in the readings that my vpu current clock is 506mhz when it's supposed to be 650mhz. Also it says that my current memory clock is 594 mhz when it's supposed to be 2ghz. I know it may show as 1000 mhz but when it's doubled with ddr it should reach 2ghz. But not 594mhz. Even when i try to overclock just to bring it up to it's supposed to be stock speed. The current clock readings don't move. Can anybody shed any light on this? I tried to upload a screenshot of the overdrive tab but it wouldn't upload for r some reason so if anyone can tell me how to do this correctly i'll be very grateful of that also. I looked on faq but couldn't find anything on uploading pictures (except avatars). Anyway graphics card is x1950 xtx. Thanks a million, Max.

Catalyst Control Center is the software that accompanies the driver for the AMD (ATI) graphics card for your computer. You might have downloaded the in correct one.
Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc Right click the devmgmt icon and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager, expand the Dislplay Adapter. What is the model # of your ATI Video Card? Write it down. Go to Start/Search and type appwiz.cpl Right click the appwiz icon and Run As Administrator. Uninstall the Catalyst Control Center software. I have a Acer 5510 Vista 32 laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 and Catalyst Control Centre (CCC) has stopped working completely. I?ve tried to reinstall from different websites and different versions but the program still shuts down on startup. Grew tired of it and uninstalled everything related to CCC (didn?t touch the driver for the X1300 though). The computer starts faster now and I still have 1280*px resolution, 32-bit color etc etc.So, now for the question: does anything get worse (ie resolution, color depth etc) due to not having CCC installed or CCC is 'only' a different way to control the thing you can tweak in the windows control panel?

Controll center virus?
Could any one please help, i seem to have got a virus, that takes over the computer when i boot up, it also happens if i start in safe mode also.

What happens is, when i boot up, it all seems to go ok, until it gets to the desk top, then a program opens up covering the whole screen, it appears to be a page like computer scanner giving a report on a scan of the computer.

Among other things, it tells me i have over 700 virus's, when i click the little red shut down cross, i get a message that i cant do that with out the key number, it them offers me the chance to go on line and get the number, but then i get a message saying that it can not access the Internet.

I can move that page around on the desk top, but underneath it, i can see the desk top, but here is nothing on the desktop, no start button or anything.

The only thing i van do is hit the re load button and then switch off the puter, by the on off switch before it re boots. So i am well and truly stuck.

I think i got this virus downloading two tracks from Limewire, although i did check them with AVG Free, before i opened them.

i hasten to add, that i only download tracks that i have paid for on vinyl.

My operating system is XP Home.

The heading on the page, says Control center and Best PC Components.

Could any one please advise me of a way around this?

Thanks for any replies.

My HP Pavilion DV7 was upgraded from Win7 to Win 10 and the Crystality graphics adjustment app is no longer available/working. The graphics chip is an ATI Radeon 4530 which is not supported (no driver) in Windows 10 by HP. The video all seems to work fine but I also need to view the screen through HDMI on another monitor and there's a black border around the screen because the scaling is off and I can't tweak it because there's no Crystality app where this adjustment is normally done from.

Is there any way around this?

I've installed the newest Catalyst Drivers and still nothing. Any ideas? The drivers work fine, I just can't get into any of the ATI programs that come with them (ie. control centre) Thanks a lot.

I have same problems with same drivers in Win10 but in 8.1 works like it should. Do you have AMD Catalyst Control Center in right click menu on the desktop, if you do it's running but not showing on Taskbar. Is there a reason you are using 14.4 drivers instead of newer 14.9 ?

Hey guys
New guy here.
I am in HELL!
I installed Windows 7 on My Vaio laptop a few days ago.
The machine had factory installed Vista.
Its a Due core 2.4 with ATI Radeon HD 3400, 4 GHZ ram

The install went fine and it asked for the nuking of the ATI software to facilitate install. I did that and all was well.

The computer works great except for the fact that when I put out to my Samsung 55" display it majorly underscans.

I remembered that this was previously rectified in the CCC controls.
So I went to ATI downloaded the latest drivers, 10.1 and installed them. Smooth install no problems. The drivers took and all was well.

THe CCC software is no where to be found.
I've since then read so many posts on this topic that I am getting quite sick.

I've tried every recommended solution here and in other forums. I've tried many other drivers, I've tried Drive sweeper, I've tried un installing Microsoft .Net Frameworks. Nothing works.

The one thing that I noticed while installing the various ATI packages that never not once is the CCC shown as actually installing. The only thing that ever installs is the drivers, the registration and the Manager.

I use this laptop as my HTPC right now, and untill I installed Windows 7, its been great. But now I am watching all my pretty HD movies with a 1.5 inch black bracket all around the screen.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, has anyone solved this yet? It seems to have been going on for at least 6 months...

I have an AMD Radeon HD6670 graphics card installed on my PC. My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate.

I am experiencing problems in setting up dual monitors. I attempted to achieve this from my desktop via the screen resolution option and choosing to extend the desktop across the two monitors, but a message pops up saying: “Unable to save display settings”. It does not provide a reason though, which is somewhat frustrating. I am able to switch between monitors, but cannot extend or duplicate.

I also attempted to set these up using the Catalyst Control Centre via the desktop management tab in the advanced view. When clicking on “Creating and arranging desktops” only 1 monitor (numbered 1) appears in the main palette on this page. However, both monitors are displayed in the detection area below the main palette with only 1 monitor labelled as number 1. When attempting to create a group of monitors on the main palette by clicking on the black down arrow on the displayed monitor, nothing happens. Also attempting to extend the desktop by clicking on the down arrow on the unnumbered monitor in the detection area yields the following message: “This operation is not supported based on current display configuration”

I interpret this as having to set up the display configuration first by creating a group of monitors as explained above, however this I could not achieve for reasons outlined earlier.

Try uninstalling the Catalyst Control Centre in Control Panel >> Programs & Features (uninstalling it will not stop your Radeon graphics adapter from working).

Now download & install the latest Catalyst Driver Full Package from either your PC/laptop manufacturer's website if it's a laptop or brand-name PC with integrated Radeon graphics chip, your motherboard manufacturer's website if it's a custom-built PC with integrated Radeon graphics chip, or from the ATI Radeon card manufacturer's website (AMD) if it's a PCI or PCI-e graphics card.

Hey all, recently i installed a drive update for my ATI HD3200 graphics ( onboard) since i saw there was one. I was playing Cs source and when i exted my resolution was all crazy, so i rolled back the driver. Nothing changed. so then i wondered if it had something to do with Catalist control center, so i believe i uninstalled that, or maby i didnt, i dont remember, ( its been a rough day) but i remember using the HP program to recover factory default drivers and settings, so i used that, and the display was fixed. but now the issue is catalyst wont work. i even tryed installing the new version by it self, with my old display driver, and it wont run. It says theres a problem with it, something like DEP or DPI or something, which i tryed to add an exception for that program, and it wouldnt allow me to do so, so i just gave up and uninstalled it. there also was some more stuff

One of the HP laptops on this home network lost its connectivity to the net after a start up last night, as well as to one and other. We tried to open Network Sharing Centre but it wouldn't open and when we tried to connect to a network it states “Windows cannot find any network' but I'm on it now, as well that laptop cannot access its Control Panel.

We are able to connect to the net by way of a lan cable to one of the port on the router.

We did a search and found articles that dealt with this issue where some have resolved the problem by reinstalling the bios, others by reinstalling the Intel PRO/Wireless Drivers for Microsoft Windows Vista or Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver for Microsoft Windows Vista or Realtek RTL8101 Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0) Driver, so we did the lot to cover all bases but still no joy?

If anyone who has dealt with a similar issue has a solution, your input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your help and or interest.

Hi, If I use XP Pro my Logitech Elite keyboard volume control knob turns the volume up and down smoothly regardless of if I am gaming etc but when I use the keyboard in XP Media Centre the volume control becomes very jerky and virtually uncontrollable. For instance it will be at 30% but if I turn it down one notch in XP Pro it would go down to 27% but in Media Centre it go go down to 20% or even 15% or even worse no volume.

I have tried uninstalling the drivers, reinstalling them and nothing seems to work.

Any help would be appreciated, I like Media Centre but I can't use it if I can't control the volume from my keyboard

A:Media Centre Volume Control woes

I think the drivers between the two different keyboards are conflicting with each other since they apparently use some of the same files on the system between them. I think you might just have to make your mind up to use the keyboard that works the best. I would try un-installing the logitech and rebooting with the regular keyboard and then re-install the regular keyboard just for good measure.

The pc`s are going to be getting messed up in terms of icons moved, taskbars moved etc as some have issues with co-ordination etc, i would like seek advice on which options within windows xp - which either revert easily to a previous state or stop icons being moved or deleted etc - wallpaper being changed etc......but make sure they can get onto the internet and e-mail etc?

I recently re-installed my ATI drivers and the Catalyst Control Centre. It all installed properly.

When i right click on the desktop,i see "Graphics Properties" and "Configure Switchable Graphics" options. However on clicking the latter i get a window showing this :

I should be getting a list of programs like this :

Also under Video->Color settings,i used to use the AMD Theater preset which made the videos on my laptop more colourful but now choosing any preset does not do anything i.e. there is no change in the video. Why is that and how do i fix that?

A:Switchable Graphics Don't Work In Catalyst Control Centre?

When you have a laptop that has Switchable Graphics, you should be going to the laptop vendor to get the video drivers, not to AMD. The drivers at AMD are not designed to support switchable graphics (AFAIK) and instead, are for the more general video cards.

A:Pinned Programs-Catalyst Control Centre(missing)

It's bloatware that's not needed unless your overclocking or need a setting only it provides. I would uninstall it before it starts causing serious issues instead of just bugging you. You only need the driver.

In windows 7, I keep getting a windows box that pops saying "Catalyst Control Centre: Host application has stopped working". In the body of the box it says: A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

It seaches for a solution but does not come back with one. Any ideas?

Hi, I've read a lot of other posts about the same issue I'm experiencing but have so far been unable to solve.

[I reinstalled Windows 7 using the Upgrade option (not clean install) but before I could do the reinstall it said I had to uninstall Ati Technologies which I could then reinstall after the upgraded Windows]

I ran install for the Catalyst Softward Suite for drivers which had the CCC listed, but there is no CCC option in the install list when I run to install. It just doesn't appear! I've uninstalled ATI Catalyst Install Manager, ran Driver Sweeper in safe mode and then reinstalled but still the CCC does not appear in the list. I've also checked the Windows/Assesmbly key problem too. It's the same problem as this post: Catalyst Control Center missing/Wont install

I have a Radeon 4000 series card.

I just purchased two HIS HD 5670 video cards and installed the hardware and drivers with no problems. Where I am getting a problem is with the Catalyst Control Center. It will not open. Every time I try to open it, I immediately get a windows error which says Catalyst Control Centre: Host has stopped working. I've tried uninstalling every piece of ATI software on my computer, re-installing, different versions of the software, etc. Nothing fixes this issue. My graphics work just fine, but I cannot get in to change the settings or turn on Crossfire. It is very frustrating and I have tried everything I can think of short of re-installing windows. I'd prefer not to do that. Here is the info from the error message. Can anyone help?
