Lenovo Yoga 2 pro Motherboard serial # YB04985251

Q: Lenovo Yoga 2 pro Motherboard serial # YB04985251

My Yoga 2 pro laptop serial YB04985251 motherboard went dead all of a sudden and now i sent it to the authorized agent in Egypt and they said that the motherboard should be changed and the estimated cost is EGP 6,600 equivalent to USD 744 . I originally bought this laptop at USD 1300 in June 2014 from USA and my use is limited to Microsoft Office applications, browsing and watching movies. It's worth noting that this is a core I7 ultrabook and when i originally bought it I was in between this laptop and The MacBook. However, I went for the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro and now I am expecting that the motherboard to be changed free of charge as this is something I have never experienced. It's worth noting that before buying this laptop i was using Dell XPS 15' and it's still functioning till date (starting 2009). I contacted Lenovo and they said it's out of warranty. is that normal, I buy an I7 ultrabook 2 years ago and the motherboard goes bust all of a sudden and now they tell me it's out of warranty and that I should pay almost $750.Any suggestions??? Appreciate your kind feedback, Very best regards,Loay Hossny

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just replaced the mainboard on my Yoga 900-13ISK2 and now BIOS shows no serial number or product.  I've seen other posts where they say you can use a bootable BIOS update utility to add those values back in but 1) I only find the windows executable version in the support.lenovo.com site and 2) I already have the lates BIOS version and even the Windows executable version will not continue when you already have the latest version.   Any ideas on how to fix this?  I was hoping the new mainboard would make my Yoga like new, so this is annoying. Thanks! Mike

Hi Guys,I sent my laptop Lenovo Z5170 to Redington Egypt, because after discharging it stopped working and reject to charge battery again. They told me that it need to replace the motherboard, but i received the replaced motherboard INVALID with no manufacturer and no Serial Number in BIOS or windows, and when i tried to play heavy games with ATI graphics card the windows shutdown suddenly! I sent it again to Redington, and they told me that they replaced the motherboard again, but with no Serial Number, and they sent an email to your company to fix the missing Serial Number issue And I have been told by the engineer who tried to replace the motherboard that it need an injection from the factory with a new Serial Number and I was sure that this part is not Original! Is that normal to get an original part without Serial Number ? and how can i get sure that it was an original part or just a copy spare ?  Thanks.

Working on a dead Lenovo X260 - needs a mother board - Cannot find the motherboard serial number anywhere on the motherboard - Which one to order in the warranty claim area online? It is a Type 20-F5 There are around 20 choices on the warranty claim portal -- on the motherboard itself - nothing remotely like a PRU part Number -- even removed the motherboard -- and nothing underneath it.

I need to replace my motherboard on the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro.  If the part number is 90004988, can I just buy and use this part number 90004988 in my laptop or is there something else that I need to consider. I checked the part number via part look in Lenovo for my laptop. Model:  20266P/N:  59386391

A:Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro motherboard replacement

I would suggest opening the machine and looking for a part number on your old board.  The parts list shows 17 choices for Yoga 2 pro.  The part number you list is described as 8GB, with a win8 std license and an i7 processor.  If you previously updated to windows 10, you may have activation problems, depending on whether the replacement board was also ever upgraded.

Hello, There are 2 versions of the Yoga 2 11, a Baytrail and a Haswell one. I was wondering if aside from the motherboard they are the same device? I have the Baytrail version but would like to swap the motherboard over and they seem to be cheap on auction websites and would significantly improve performance. Is there any reason this is not possible? Thanks!

Hello, I had a fault in my Leovo X1 Yoga motherboard and got it replaced today.  After the new one was installed, the fingerprint reader stopped working correctly.  Specifically: 1. It shows up as working in Device Manager (I tried updating the driver, but it says the driver is already up to date).2. I can go into "windows hello" and go through the registration process.  However, once the fingerprint registration process is completed, windows hello doesn't update the status.  If I click on "set up" again, it starts all over as if I hadn't done it yet.3. On boot up, the fingerprint reader no longer activates.4. In rhe BIOS I confirmed that it is still set to use the fingerprint reader. The fact I can go through registration shows me that electrically, the reader is working fine. But that's the only thing that seems to make it work.  Any ideas are much appreciated! -Drew

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

Left: Yoga 920 in Bronze. Right: Yoga 910 in Silver

On the surface, both the Yoga 910 and Yoga 920 look nearly identical, but in my testing, I prefer one over the other. Let's dig deeper to see the differences between the two!To get this out of the way, both machines have 1TB PCIe storage, 16GB memory, and the Yoga 910 has the 7th gen i7-7550U processor, and the Yoga 920 has the 8th gen i7-8550U processor.

Hardware & Design
Both the Yoga 910 and Yoga 920 are built out of aluminum, which gives them a high quality feel to them.  Both laptops have the keyboard integrated into the chassis, which means less keyboard flex. One thing that I find better in the Yoga 920 is the fact that it's all smooth edges around.  The Yoga 910 has pretty sharp edges which means you could scratch your surface or yourself.  The sharp edges of the Yoga 910 was a common complaint, and I'm glad they rectified it.

The Yoga 920 also has a little slit on the display lid that makes it much easier to open the lap... Read more

Hello Dws520Thanks for using the Lenovo forums. Was this the creators update?
If so, have a look on the following post, this should show if your device has been tested with the update yet:
https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/ht503655

From what I can see, your unit does not seems to have made the list, which leads me to believe that this will be the cause of the issue, I would recommend that you revert back to the previous version of Windows, and observe if the fault still occurs or not.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

Hello endorush85, and welcome to Ten Forums.

You could try using the Activation troubleshooter to see if you may be able to activate Windows this way.

Activation Troubleshooter - Use in Windows 10

If not, then you should be able to activate by phone if this isn't an OEM license.

I have recently restored an HP DV7 3063cl laptop that died from an overheated motherboard (MB). I replaced the MB with a new board from HP when the price was reduced to about $100, upgraded the CPU with an advertised as new AMD 640M, and applied Arctic Silver on both the CPU and Graphics chips. I put in 4 G of fresh memory, got the computer to operate, and installed Windows 10. However, I have several problems: The BIOS cannot locate the serial number of the motherboard during the boot process and sends a message to the effect. I hit the Enter key the boot continues. I have tried to access the BIOS to enter the serial number or other possible solutions I found on line. One HP help forum had a BIOS editing software tool from Compaq from the year 2000 but said that it only would on desktops and the HP staff would have to provide a revised BIOS for my laptop. 2. I've been looking around and found a few people who are very displeased with the logo startup/boot logo (example1, example2), but no way to change it as of yet. Is it possible without too much hassle? I know it's not a big deal but the logo is simply terrible in so many ways. If nothing, then at least I'm raising awareness and maybe Lenovo will choose a better graphic designer for our collective startup screens. I mean, seriously? Is that the best you could come up with?

Hi, I updated the bios on a replacement board which I fitted in my Yoga 900 13ISK.  The replacement board was originally: Bios: C6CN35WW and EC: C6EC32WW.  I ran the bios update and it is now C6CN39WW, but the EC version remains stuck at C6EC32WW.  I have since tried everything to get these to sync, including updating the platform.ini, attempting to install older bios versions, but after upgrading to C6CN39WW, the only message I get after the machine reboots to try to flash the bios is "InsydeH20 - Secure Flash\n Error: Firmware update failed !! \n Please press any key to reset system".So questions:1/ How to update the bios to get the EC to be correct?2/ How to flash the serial and MTM?3/ Could this be the reason an SSD is not detected?  I have tried with an Intel SSDSCKKF256H6, but the bios doesn't see it.  It is a 16GB US board which I believe should take SATA SSDs.  I'm slightly worried that the different EC version and missing serial/MTM info could somehow be causing the machine to not see this SDD (or any other which is my worst fear!!)4 Is there a hardware maintenance diskette for this model? (or similar) Thank you all

There are multiple advices on this forum to refer to the Hardware Maintenance Manual for finding replacement FRU. I check it out and it a BS advice- it does not contain a list of replacement FRUs for each FRU number, it's merely a table with a list of all FRU, that's it.

I read other posts and none specifically addressed this for the 920 and the use of what is actually a good Lenovo config tool seems to be poorly documented.   I would think it would be the same for any Yoga model with Windows 10 and Lenovo Vantage installed.   I can't seem to find a version for Vantage, so hopefully this works on all versions.    1) Find and open Lenovo Vantage on your machine (use Cortana if needed).   This is the Responsive view and yours may look different...don't worry, options are the same.  Click on Hardware settings  2)  Click on Input (again, responsive view...whatever view you have should have this button labeled the same)  3)  This will open the Hardware Setting - Input UI.   Under 'Function Keys' click on the one that is labeled 'F1-F12' (should look like below, highlighted in blue) to make that the the Function the default setting for those keys...to further clarify: it will now be a Function Key (F1-F12) by default.    With this change, you will press the FN+ one of the function key for the Hot Key option (e.g. FN+F1=mute/unmute, FN+F2=volume down, etc.)     4)  Your change is already saved, so you can now X-out (click X in the upper right) of the pop-up windows created by that were created

I bought the Lenovo yoga 900 in December as i was about start medical school, now after only about 6 months of use, while i was using it one evening, i decided to take a break from school work, when I got back to my computer it had powered down and tried to reboot but didn't make it pass the Lenovo screen, i tired exhausting the battery power and trying it again but to no avail. so my question is has anyone had this kind of problem before and if so what is the solution? Also is this a common problem and how long is the company warranty for my 6 month old computer, in case i need to give it back to get something more reliable, its kind of disheartening as i had believed this was the best decision i made for medical school, but now am left with the possibility of failing the semester due to faullty equipment. SOOO PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP ME SAVE MY SEMESTER. Thnak youjay

New Yoga 700-141SK: Ran the Lenovo Support Center Hardware Scan and the Video Card Mathematical Operations Test has failed rendering the Report: WVC007002-UL7BPL. Is there a tried and proven solution out there? I have had a look at the solutions on the forum and am not satisfied that the solutions offered prove that the problem has been resolved. It is reasonable to expect Lenovo to make available a solution as a matter of course instead of end-users of "afflicted" Lenovo devices having to request/search for a solution(s).
