Help with BIOS please. (Lenovo Boot Block Recovery)

Q: Help with BIOS please. (Lenovo Boot Block Recovery)

So I tried updating the BIOS on my Lenovo M92p desktop using Lenovo System Update program. Unfortunately, it didnt work and i ended up with a blank screen. I waited for about 10 minutes and still nothing happened. I decided to hold the power button and had it shut off. After multiple power ons, still no POST. I read the HMM and the section about BIOS boot block recovery. It said I needed to burn an iso file to a CD and also move the CMOS jumper to pins 2 & 3. Since I dont have a cd, I put the bios flash package on a usb drive instead, plugged it into pc, and also moved CMOS jumper to 2 & 3. Computer turns on and there are two beeps. No display. Does this mean I will have to get a CD?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What format was the USB drive? Try using FAT32. Failing that, yes, get a CD.

Hello Lenovo Experts! Brand new L380 Yoga requested BIOS update after the first reboot. It seems it did not complete the procedure properly, possibly because it happened in midst of W10 update cycle. After seeing BIOS flashing messages during boot it turned off and that was the last of it. Now, when i power it up it only makes funky short beeps, that can be repeated with the Fn key. Lenovo diagnostics app is unable to decode them properly. Screen does not turn on. Only FnLock  and keyboard illumination seems to function. Besides that the laptop is reduced to a sad instrument capable of playing one not so catchy tune... I'll add a capture of it to the message for your enjoyment. I would like to know if this model has a failsafe to reimage bios or is my only option to have the system board replaced through the warranty service.

Hey guys, so I've gotten myself in a bit of a pickle. Ok, long story short, the hard drive in my Lenovo Y50 crashed and started doing the click of death.  Fed up with dealing with Western Digital, I said "screw it" and drove to the nearest computer store and bought a Kingston 480GB SSD (Which I am LOVING so far). However, because the size of the drive was smaller, my recovery USB refused to restore the operating system, so I had to borrow my friends computer, download the media creation tool and do a clean install of Windows 10 that way. Everything was totally fine, then I remembered I had forgotten something really important. Every single back up I've ever done was with Lenovo Onekey Recovery. A program that I did not have anymore. So obviously my next course of action was to get a recovery key from Lenovo. I called the number, explained the situation, and they sent me the key that I got in the mail today. I plugged it in expecting the rest of the road to be filled with puppies and rainbows... but it's not looking that way. Going into BIOS, it does not see the Lenovo Recovery key as a boot option. I've since made my own clean windows 10 recovery drive than can be booted into fine, but it doesnt recognize the lenovo drive as a bootable UEFI device either. Furthermore, it doesn't matter if I set BIOS to UEFI or Legacy Support... it still doesn't recognize the drive either way. The guy on the phone told me he'd have to send me a windows 8.1 key, si... Hi

I wondering what Crisis Recovery Disk do you have ?:|
In my experience the special disk is needed which is available only for ASP technician.
Therefore it?s necessary to contact the ASP in your country in order to reflash the BIOS.

In my opinion you shouldn?t not try any ?Crisis Recovery disks? which you fond in the net? this can lead to mobo damage?

I tried to booting the computer and received the Award Boot Block Bios and BIOS checksun error. It detects the cdrom but I donít have the CD. Where can I get the cd, like where to download it.

Motherboard: ASUS P5LP-LE (LimeStone)

I don't remember the rest.
I found the site for the motherboard. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...cc=us&product=470506&dlc=en&docname=c00379422

Backgorund:
I was having some probelms, which the computer wouldn't start at all and a really loud sound the fan made, so I called my insurance, and they came and change the mother board twice and added a new cooling fan and power supply. All this took two months for waiting for the parts and making an appoinment with the tech.

After replacing the motherboard twice the tech told me I'm gonna order new harddrive, I don't think is the motherboard or the fan. Before leaving he suggested me to call me inusrance and tell them that you want a new computer cause its been more than two months and there has been four calls already. So, I called the insurance and got a new computer and kept the old one.

A week after receiving my new computer I took the old one for repair but at didn't at the end after they told me how much it would cost me to get it fix. Can anyone point me to such a program that works.

My computer is telling me one of my hard drives is there (as local disk D) But is not formatted. Yet it is and it has data on it.

I'm running XP pro.

Loosing the data will not be the end of the world, just a shame.

I feel sure there is something out there that would at least let me get the data off before I reformat.

Thanks

Hi,

There is a product called Spinrite which is supposed to be fantastic though i have no experience with it. You can get details of it here http://grc.com/spinrite.htm

It sells for about US$100 which may be a bit steep if you're looking at a once off.

purchasing info is here http://grc.com/purchasing.htm but the toll free number is only good in the US (i'm in OZ myself) so you may need to drop them a mail if you're interested.

When this PC has sat in a releativly cool enviroment, it will boot up just fine. But let it get warmed up good, say having it on for 5-8 minutes and it will not boot up!

It gives the "Award Boot Block BIOS V1.0" and will not go any further.

The BIOS is "Award Modular" Version 6.00P

Do I have a chipset problem? Do I just need to update the BIOS?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

It was uninitialized so i considered trying to activate it in a few ways, through diskpart in windows, and also by cloning via linux and adding boot flags to the partition it was written to. No luck, though. I'm reluctant to do much more, considering I paid money for this drive; what gives? How does one use this mysterious little drive?

Right after re-installing Windows 8 on a Lenovo G510, I updated the BIOS to version 79CN50WW (V3.09) with the file which is available on this website. Unfortunately, the update crashed right in the middle of the process and leaves me with a broken BIOS. After booting the notebook, I get the following messages: lenovo logo"EFI Nentwork 0 for IPv4 (F8-A9-63-33-28-09)" with an [OK]-Button. If I hit OK, I'll get..."No bootable device -- Please restart system"If I restart the system, I'll see the following messages: lenovo logo"EFI Nentwork 0 for IPv4 (F8-A9-63-33-28-09)" with an [OK]-Button. If I hit OK, I'll get..."Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed.Insert Recovery Media and Hit any keyThen Select 'Boot Manager' to choose a new Boot Device or to Boot Recovery Media"If I hit [OK] again, the Boot Manager shows up with a list which has two entries which are:EFI Network 0 for IPv4 (F8-A9-63-33-28-09)EFI Network 0 for IPv6 (F8-A9-63-33-28-09)Whatever option I choose from these both, nothing changes. How can I recover the (previous) BIOS or get the notebook to work again properly?

OK here is my problem, and ill try and have as little redundancy as possible

My computer out of the blue decided that I didn't want to boot with my C: drive any more... (yes i know i should make regular backups, but if i did, i wouldnt be here, now would I?)

ok first, with the old HDD:
i have my bios set to a floppy-cd-hdd boot order
so after it checks for any bootable cds, it stops and says "a disc read error has occured, press ctrl-alt-del to restart"
so i cannot get to the F8 menu...
if i boot with the in xp disc and go to repair... it wont let me login to the install of windows, so i cant move files anywhere
if i boot with an xp floppy, it says hal.dll is missing/corrupt so cannot boot, which i would replace, but for me not being able to move files in repair mode.

having no probs with new hdd that i installed xp pro on, fresh new install, upgraded all and stuff, and in windows, it will not see the old hdd.
bios recognizes it, and all pre-windows boot stuff recognize it... so i know the physical hdd isnt bad... i can see data in recovery mode, just cant DO anything with it...

i basically only care about two folders on the old HDD, and would like to recover those if at all possible

i was wondering if anyone had ANY ideas of what i can do to get my files back.

please keep in mind that I have ZERO extra money... so anything that is free, and non-destructive to the data would be helpful. Telling me to go to a recovery company would not... Read more

A:HDD recovery, can't boot, is seen in bios, not in win xp Help please!

after you put the xp disc in
and do fresh boot up
make sure you have bios set to boot from cd first
when screen comes up asking what you want to do don't repair from here
if you have sata drive load the drives here then wait till xp finds the older OS here is where you tell it to repair
I do a small hdd repair service and this seems to be the most confusing part of W$K and XP_eration.
on the other hand you did not say if you tried to change boot order to boot from hdd first
it could be cd rom drive is bad

I'm not an owner of your model, but according to the B550's User Guide you need to total shut down the computer.  When powering back up, start tapping the F1 key to enter the BIOS Setup.

Hi everybody, I saw many of problems like mine there, but I can't still do anything after several attempts to solve that.  It started two weeks ago.. I did cleaned my hdd, then to keep my device lil a bit update I have updated few drivers. First day, it was able to boot up after 10-15 attempts. (Holding down the power button, disc. battery, ac, reconnect and power button again). Since that time I was unable to get to the BIOS, set Boot order, and I couldn't see even the splash screen. Several days it did the same and the attempts grew up.  Last time it was able to launch, its about 4 days ago, I was watching, film then I felt asleep. When I woke up in the morning, the screen wasn't black but still slighty light(not off, fans were working, cooler was fine). Since that moment I couldn't boot it anymore. I tried reseting CMOS battery, tried to flash bios by using flash disk and Fn+R (laptop did different thing but after 15secs it has turned off).. I think it is frozen BIOS but I haven't clue what to do when I can't simply set the boot order.  Maybe I am wrong and the problem is only in the motherboard. Novo button works but everything I choose there, it ending by black screen again.  Thanks for help, maybe for any solutions how to fix this. I am prepared to buy another motherboard, but if I would be able to repair it on my own, I would happy. Thanks,Jakub.

Hi there, Yuvaraj ?

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Power down the machine, remove the AC adapter and battery.
Hold the power button for 30secs and reconnect the AC adapter only then turn the computer ON.

If the machine still doesn't power up normally and boot into Windows then it's likely that something went wrong (could be a bad BIOS flash or an internal component might have gone defective during or after the BIOS update).
Also, check the cable to the SSD and the system board.

Last resort would be, issue with motherboard. I would recommend you to contact Lenovo service center and report your findings. For more details, Schedule a Call-back for faster support.

Update us how it goes.

I used Rufus to create a bootable USB and insalled Ubuntu 16.04, after that it seems that Windows got a trojan (I couldn't start programs as admin, rufus itself could not be started and -internet Explorer was failing).  It was necessary to restore Windows using the lenovo partition.  Windows is fine now, but the option to start from an USB is gone from the BIOS, instead there are two options to start with Windows MBR (one of them is the one I re-configured to start Ubuntu, the other one goes directly into Windows), one for Ubuntu and another one for the net.  I need to boot again from a USB (I need to install another Ubuntu), but I can't get the option back.  How do I add it again to the BIOS menu?

Yesterday, After the "Lenovo solution center" told me that , I should upgrade the BIOS, I ran the BIOS upgrade and my Lenovo w450 doesn't boot anymore! The total black scary screen appears whaterver I press the power button many times, many long presses (actually the screen was not started) ?! The laptop do nothing. It seems to be that nothing happen. I tried to remove battery, wait...follow the instructrion , do everything but it doesnot boot. I brroght the laptop to the local Lenovo service authorizer. After 2 hours later, they told me that the laptop BIOS is broken down, and then I have to pay 100$ to order the new one!!!! although my quaranty date is still valid until 2017 (according to "Lenovo auto detecting" service said that). It's a shame.I don't even sure that the issue is cause by the BIOS or not. Besides, The Lenovo solution center "told" me that: I have to run the BIOS upgrade and now it break down the laptop. Now I have to wait at least a week to get the new BIOS shipping (I'm from VN) all my works are now pospond, and I loose the customers every day. For me. from now on, I'll keep away from Lenovo products and tell my friend do so. Enough the complaination. My questions are:- Before the BIOS is died for upgrade, the Laptop still boot very slow. The time to enter the BIOS before go to OS startup is very loooong, There are many people have the same issue like me on Google but there are no truely answer for it. Is there any Lenovo thinkpad ... Hello everyone,

My Zenbook crashed yesterday when I clicked OK to a "LiveUpdate" pop-up on my desktop. Guess it was from Asus but I'm not sure, as the pop-up didn't contain any text...

When I boot it gets to the (pulsating) Windows logo - after that I just get a black screen with a movable cursor.

None of the safe modes works - just black screens with "safe mode" written in every corner.

I've made a bootable USB with Win7, and that boots up fine to the install/recovery mode - sometimes. Sometimes it doesn't get that far, it just goes to the black screen even though I'm certain it boots from the USB. Weird.

Anyway, the recovery mode can't find any system images, and I can't see the SSD when I try the 'load the drivers' option. HOWEVER, the harddrive DOES show up in the BIOS, but only IF the USB is in the machine?

I have an option to reinstall Windows (I think...), but I would very much like to safe some files before the drive is formatted...

Help please!!

Do any keyboard shortcuts work when you're left with a black screen and a lone cursor?

Ctrl+Shift+Esc would be the best to try. Does it show the Task Manager? From there you might be able to start Explorer or other programs.

Failing this, can you clarify a little bit? Booting in to Windows 7 Recovery shows that there isn't an operating system to repair, is that correct? Are you using the right Recovery CD/image for your version of Windows? Windows 7 x86, for example.

Have you tried booting in to safe mode with Command Prompt?

Don't stress. It looks like you're able to recover your files, even if you have to resort to a LiveCD or something.

Hi,

I have a old Tecra 9100 with years of good service, and this is my first problem, but is a great one, after a forced reboot the screen shows a BIOS block 1 damaged message. I have tried to repair the BIOS upgrading to the last version I have found, the 1.6 one, but its a Windows version (to upgrade from a running Toshiba computer I think) and when I try to run it in another computer to generate a FDD and upgrade BIOS, I cant, beacuse a Toshiba common modules message.

Its there any BIOS diskette image-archive I can dowload to perform the BIOS upgrade in the BIOS?

Thanks in advance.

Hello

All you can find is stuff on Toshiba support page. I don't know where you live but try to contact nearest Toshiba authorized service provider.
They have access to Toshiba database and they can obtain all this for you. Make a call and ask for help. I am pretty sure they will help you to solve this BIOS issue.

After HP hard drive failure, HP sent and I installed/activated the replacement hard disk, up to a Factory Install (Win 7, 64-bit).  But my efforts to restore to my System Image backup are blocked.  I managed to reach the Windows System Recovery Options panel, from where I select System Image Recovery, which successfully detects the external System Image that I previously backed up, but when I select Next to continue with the recovery, I am blocked by a message indicating that the System Image Recovery requires reformatting the disk where the Recovery Environment is running -- restart.  But neither restarting, nor HP Recovery, nor Windows Recovery, nor booting from the HP-created Windows Repair disc, nor booting from the HP-provided System Recovery discs allow me to restore from my System Image backup.   In desperation, I then formatted the C: drive, but a reboot simply re-installed the Factory image from drive D: (HP Recovery drive).

Hi @20pcAdmin, Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you are having some trouble restoring from the back you made of your data. I am happy to assist with this. Does the hard drive you are restoring to have enough free space to restore the entire back up?Are you restoring to an empty folder? Also review the following, but I am sure you are following it properly. HP PCs - Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 7)  If not try to follow the process and see if there is any change. Otherwise you may need to contact phone support. Please use the following http://www.hp.com/contacthp and create a case for your issue and contact HP. If you live outside the US/Canada, please click the link below to get the contact information for your region. http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html Please let me know whether that works for you, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution.
