G400s won't even post after VRAM change on custom BIOS

Q: G400s won't even post after VRAM change on custom BIOS

Hi, i have a custom bios on my g400s and after a change the VRAM to 1024 (i know it was stupid), the laptop rebooted and now it reboots every 5s. The screen is blank, there's no beep, nothing, just keep restarting. I tried to turn it on without the battery, remove de CMOS battery, tested the ram sticks, but no luck yet. I also tried to a bios recovery with a usb stick and pressing fn + b, the fan goes full speed, i waited for an hour, but the led on the usb stick dont even turn on. I dont know what to do now, please, help me!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,

Here is my current situation:

Got a new HP desktop (Windows 10 Pro) with RX 580 GPU. Disabled Secure Boot in BIOS since I wanted to avoid potential issues from flashing custom GPU bios, then flashed the custom BIOS (nothing fancy, just modified some timings which worked for me in the past with another RX 580).
After rebooting it will not post and it gives 3 short beeps and 3 long beeps, which according to HP signifies that "the embedded controller has timed out waiting for BIOS to return from graphics initialization."
I tried pulling the GPU and plugging into integrated graphics via HDMI but got the same result. It could be that the integrated graphics are disabled (the ports were covered) but I can't seem to get into BIOS to check.
I tried swapping in a different GPU (not 100% it's working since I have no other PC to test with currently, but I have no reason to believe it's dead). Same result.
Tried removing and re-inserting the CMOS battery, then booted up with no GPU, then with RX 580, and then with other GPU. Same result each time.
Any suggestions as to what I should try next? I'm pretty stumped...

I think I have made a very big mistake!!!

I was looking around the BIOS, trying to find something, when I spotted something like “Load High Performance Defaults.” I decided to try this and got a warning that something bad might happen, but curious, I decided to go ahead. I wish I had not as now the computer won’t even POST. All I get is a black screen. I can’t get into the BIOS to reverse my actions. The only positive thing I can report is that there was no sparks, smoke, or unusual odors coming from the computer. The motherboard is an MSI K7N2.

Any ideas out there?

Boy am I embarrassed.

Hi There,

How can i change that back to default so that when POST happens i can see the Dell logo?? I have tried reformatting the machine but still the logo doesn't show the Dell logo . Can anybody help me with this.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure what you are referring to. Post BIOS would be when Windows loads.

Post on the Dell Community forum, that is probably the best chance to get an answer.

when i press the ON button without my ATI Radeon HD 5450 in the PCI-E slot my pc makes 1 click sound then i can see the POST and away we go (Whopp)

on the box for the card it says MINIMUM 300W PSU so i though hmm my standard wont do no good, so i got myself a 500W ATX PSU an still dose it and on the ol trusty CPU-Z it reads its running at 8x when apaz my mobo is up-to 16x an my ATI is a 16x but the main Q is whats with what loks like bad starting, its like a old vw in the cold lol

A:Graphics Card Change, Strange Booting Before Bios POST

Hello mileztyler1205. Welcome to the Forum.

Because you say that when you take the 5450 card out of the PC you still get video that leads me to assume that the motherboard has on-board graphics.
It is necessary to disable the on-board graphics chip in order to use a video card. Newer motherboards switch the on-board chip off automatically, but some older boards required you to do so manually in the BIOS settings. That is where you should start.

The "click" sound is interesting. Most PCs beep, not click. Here I am going to guess that the speaker on the motherboard or computer case is defective and rather that beep you are just getting an electronic snap (or click).

As for the second machine it sounds like the video driver did not install correctly.
Completely uninstall all graphics card software and the driver. Then restart and try again.

And it is always better to write 2 posts. Otherwise it gets very confusing as to what question is being addressed.

So, the title describes the issue. I have a shared graphics memory. My ram is 4 gb but my vram is only 64Mb. This causes issues with games, etc. I went through my BIOS a 1000 times without finding anything (Toshiba Sattelite E205 laptop). Is there anyone who can help me here?

Go to your control panel, open System. You will see 'Computer Name, Domain and Workgroup Settings, out to the far right, you see a shield and Change Settings, clik this. In the System Properties window, click on the Advanced tab at top. Click on the Settings button under Performance. At the bottom you see a Change button for Virtual Memory.

Hello all,

I've read a lot of similar threads, all of which either failed to work for me, took me to the incorrect screen(s), or were way over my head in computer terminology. I am trying to find a way to alter my BIOS and increase the Dedicated VRam for my Graphics Card so that I can meet the Recommended requirements to run The Elder Scrolls Online MMO. Here's where my problem starts:

I am unable to find the correct key or key combination to access my BIOS files. I am able to access the Boot Menu via pressing the DELETE key, and the CMOS menu by repeatedly pressing the Space Bar. The former menu is blatantly incorrect, and the latter menu does not give me the ability to change what it is I'm looking for (or anything to do with the memory, for that matter, save voltage and frequency). What's more, there is NO "Press this key for Setup" or any variation of that during my boot-up. And, yes, I've checked it frame-by-frame using a fast-paced select/deselect sequence of the Pause-Break button. It simply isn't there.

Is this a fool's quest? Is CMOS the best I can manage with my current computer? My current desktop specs are listed in my profile section - I added them immediately to ease this process. My computer is barely a 2 year old, and it set me back over $1100 when I had it made; I would hate to have to start over so soon!

If anyone can help me with this, please, do so. I'm no programmer, by far, but I am capable of following detailed instructions, so ... Read more

A:Difficulties Accessing BIOS to Alter Dedicated VRam

I don't think Nvidia GTS 450 is an on-board GPU, and I can't see anything in motherboard support site either. You won't find any way to change dedicated memory in BIOS.

Check your motherboard manual's BIOS section for which key to press to enter BIOS.

You can just get a newer GPU like GTX960 which will be a good upgrade. But I will let others to comment.

Edit: By the way, these are the minimum requirement for Elder Scrolls Online

Minimum System Requirements
Operating System: Windows XP 32-bit
Processor: Dual Core 2.0GHz or equivalent processor
Memory: 2GB System RAM
Hard Disk Space: 60GB free HDD space
Video Card: DirectX 9.0 compliant video card with 512MB of RAM (NVIDIA? GeForce? 8800 / ATI Radeon™ 2600 or better)
Sound: DirectX compatible sound card

Your GPU should be able to run it. Try reducing the graphical options.

This question is mainly so I can play GTA 5.

I meet every requirement but one..

Dedicated video memory....

It says:

Total Available Graphics Memory: 3200 MB
Dedicated Video Memory: 768 MB
System Video Memory: 0 MB
Shared System Memory: 2432 MB

I would like to know how to switch shared and dedicated because 2432 MB would be outstanding for GTA 5.

Right now 768 is atrocious. Help please?

A:How do I transfer my Shared vram to my Dedicated vram

You can't, it is what it is with APUs. The dedicated is what is on the die, the shared is what is available to it from your RAM. Laptops aren't the best gaming machines for newer games unless willing to spend $2000+.

Edit: My laptop has a dedicated graphics card which has 4GB of memory, it does ok with newer games but still not great.

i had recently built a new computer. after installing windows 7 everything was fine, except for during start-up it'd say 'no keyboard deteced'. which it wasn't detecting it because i couldnt acess bios during this. once i came to the windows log in screen, it was then reading the keyboard.

a few days ago i had a power outage during a thunderstorm and now a screen appears when turning on my computer giving me 2 options somehwat like 'continue start up' and 'enter a set up'. these are extremely general ideas of what it says but its not the usual 'start windows normally' screen. i would look but i'm currently at work since i cannot access the internet at home due to these problems lol.

the problem with this screen appearing is that since it is not detecting my keyboard at post, i have no where else to go. i've tried every usb port, as well as a ps/2 keyboard.

i either a. need to figure out how to get past this screen or not have it appear at all or b. figure out how to get it to detect my keyboard.

if you have any suggestions or info i'd really appreciate the help.

A:odd post/bios screen, plus no keyboard detected @ post

you could try removing the CMOS battery on the motherboard and using the jumper to reset the BIOS to factory defaults.

Always us a known good PS/2 keyboard. USB is OK after you have everything setup but unless you enable Legacy USB support in the BIOS the USB keyboard may not be seen by the BIOS (I've had this exact problem).

If the PS/2 keyboard is not seen when plugged into the keyboard PS/2 port move it to the PS/2 mouse port.

Welcome to TS; sorry to hear you are facing problems...

First off, make sure everything is assembled and connected correctly (power dongles, case buttons etc.) Second, which video card are you using in this system? I noticed you did not list one. You can try one stick of RAM at a time to eliminate the possibility of faulty modules. You might want to try a CMOS reset by removing the battery for ~20-30 secs so the BIOS settings are set to default. Good luck and post up your progress or additional queries so we can help you further.

Now I'm stuck using an old, cheap, and slow Sempron just to get me online. Here goes:

This is a list of all the parts I ordered a year ago this first time for this pc:

Hey everyone,
This is my first post on the forums, so I don't know if this is a bad question or not. I have a custom built computer that has never worked. When I first got it it would never POST or boot at all. It sounds like it is working, but nothing comes up on the screen. I have tried almost everything. I returned the motherboard three times and it tested OK everytime. I also replaced the power supply with a 650 watt Ultra Power Supply. Still nothing. Here are the specs:

AMD 3000+ Dual Core CPU

Asus A8N-SLI Motherboard

1 GB Corsair RAM

EVGA 7300 Video Card

SeaGate 120 GB SATA HDD

If you need anymore specifics, let me know. I will be glad to look them up again. I have booted it up a few times by luck, but it managed to lock up within 10 minutes of it turning on. I can also boot it up when I reset the CMOS. Then it will boot up. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A:Custom Built Computer Will Not POST

You should set your A8N-SLI PCI - X small card (dual mode change to single mode)

I dont know about your ram... I think A8N-SLI only support DDR2.

So I got the computer with all these parts yesterday, assembled it myself. Turned it on, nothing. No post, but my hmdi monitor is recognizing the connection because it doesn't stay in sleep mode when the pc is turned on. Opened it up this morning took out a stick of ram and tried again. Now I'm being told "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key." So I press a key and nothing happens. Reboot and can't get into the bios to change boot settings. I see a MSI logo screen appear for just a few seconds then it goes away to the above message.

If I disconnect everythign except cpu i get one beep and two after that in quick succession. Let me know if I left anything out, or if you just need more info. I was so excited to get this build up and going, but noooo.
Anyways, I'm new to the site, thanks in advance.

First off let me say Hi, and let it be known that I've searched the web far and wide for answers to my problem, but to no avail.

About two weeks ago my fiancé ordered some computer parts in attempt to construct a new PC to replace my piece of rubbish that was hanging on to its life by a piece of tape. Literally...

He's put computers together for a living before, and he's a game developer graduate with a love for computers, so he knows what he's doing, but I don't. He did everything, I touched nothing but watched.

Here are the parts, which arrived last Monday and Tuesday, respectively:

XCLIO A380BK Black Case
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ \2.6GHz AM2 Processor

ASUS M3A78-EMH HDMI AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
Rosewill RCX-Z1 CPU Cooler
Arctic Silver Ceramique Thermal Compound

I used my same ol' 250Gb harddrive, which worked fine just days before I received the parts, so I know that works perfectly well.

Everything was smoothly put together and powered up like clockwork. Eager to get started installing Windows XP, we hooked it up to my monitor. Powered up and everything seemed good to go... fans worked, mobo light worked...dvd drive worked....led lights came on....harddrive spun up.... but absolutely no display hit that monitor, nor did we hear any beeps.

To diagnose, we tried the following:

Hi, I'm trying to deploy IE 11 to our company via System Center 2012 SP1 CU4. I'm attempting to create an .MSI file using the IEAK 11. That's no problem. I can get IE to install using this method. The problem I'm having is when I try to include (add) patches
and updates to the installation/.MSI. I'm using the IEAK and am asking them to "install after system restarts" (after IE 11 has been successfully installed). The patch I'm trying to install is KB3087038. I've downloaded the Windows6.1-KB3087038-x64.msu
file and have extracted the .cab file from it (You can only select .exe or .cab files for this process.) One of the websites, a Microsoft site, says to insert a command in the "Command:" box to extract the file. The command I insert there
is: "expand IE11-Windows6.1-KB3087038-x64.cab -f:* c:\temp" A print-screen is attached below:

When I do this, however, I receive the following error message after IE 11 is installed and the system is rebooted. No files are extracted to the c:\temp folder:
Error: could not locate INF file 'expand IE11-Windows6.1-KB3087038-x64.cab -f:* c:\temp'. So I click OK and the system continues booting into Windows 7. The patch is never applied.
Do any of you have advice for me? Am I using the correct syntax in the Command box? Thank you.

AsRock M3A770DE Motherboard
G.Skill 4GB (2x2gb) Dual Channel DDR 1333 RAM
Seagate 1TB Sata Hard Drive
Lite-On 24x Sata Dvd-Burner

And I'm currently using my Powercolor 1gb PCI-E 2.0 Radeon 4850 video card since the one we ordered didn't arrive yet.

After assembling the computer, I tried turning the computer on but nothing appeared on the display and there was no post beep. I could hear the hard drive and dvd drives spinning, so they appear to be working. The case fan and motherboard fans came on, so the motherboard seems to be powered and the power supply must work.

Afterwards I disconnected both the hard drive and dvd drive and turned the computer back on but it still didn't work. Then I tried removing both ram cards and after I turned the computer on, I heard 3 beeps. beep-beep-beep-pause and this repeated. I then tried each ram card individually and in different slots. But this got me back to where I was having no post beeps.

I put my video card back into my computer to make sure that it was still functioning and that I didn't shock it or anything, and it worked. I put it back into my dad's computer and then took turns trying the dvi and vga ports (both my video card and my monitor have both) but this didn't work either (and no the motherboard doesn't have integrated vide... I am look for a last ditch help on fixing the BIOS/POST problem on a perfectly fine E6230
I was attempting to make a powered eSATA cable work when I enabled the SATA 4 and SATA 5 button in the BIOS.
After reboot... nothing..
I have been told it is a motherboard failure but this is too co-incidental!
I have tried a reset of the BIOS by disconnecting all power even the BIOS Coin battery .... nothing - no POST - although the LED shows that laptop is detecting lack of memory and HDD
A search shows that for INSPIRON laptops the BIOS can be unpacked and re-FLASHED to reset.
Does anyone know how to achieve this with the DELL Latitude Laptop or another way to reset the BIOS setting please?

Many thanks for any help or advice

Hello all, this is my first time posting here so please forgive any mistakes/oversights. I've just updated my Samsung laptop's system BIOS via their software update program, and my Nvidia GPU (GT 650m DDR3) no longer seems to work. The Nvidia control panel is still there, and it still gives me the option to select which programs use the GPU, but there is no GPU actitivity showing up. Also,I've tried playing Skyrim (which auto-detects the PC's graphics cards) , and the game no longer seems to detect the Nvidia GPU (just the Intel integrated graphics).

My laptop model is NP550PC7, with 6 gig of ram, and an i7 quad core CPU, and the OS is Window 7 Home Premium 64bit.

I've tried looking in the BIOS but I can't seem to find anything related to the GPU or display options. Any help or avice is much appreciated.

Have you updated your GPU with the latest drivers?

Please navigate to:

Start> Control panel> Swith to icon view> device manager.
Look under "Display Adapters"

Is the Nvidia GPU listed there? If so are there any yellow symbols etc?

Lenovo y50-70 was giving fan problem. so i read that the latest bios version fixed that issue. so i updated bios to 3.03. Before bios update, my laptop starts and within 1-2 seconds the lenovo logo comes up and 4-5 seconds it will be in log screen. Now after bios update i followed same steps with a clean install of windows 10 Now it takes 8-9 seconds to show lenovo logo after that rest all take same time as before. Lenovo y50-70bios v3.03SSD 860 EVOwindows 10No startup programs (windows defender and realtek audio which is same before update) Note: I maintained log file which i followed again with updated bios after clean install of windows 10. (so windows settings are same) The pre-boot time in boot racer and bios time in task manager are same and the time is 8.6 seconds. The below image is a clean boot test results using bootracer and task manager bios time

i have some custom keys on my keyboard and i want to change what they run
anybody know how i would go about doing so?

A:How do i change what program my custom keys open

Normally those "specials" are set in an extension to the keyboard manager.(which also means you'd have to use the disk that came with the keyboard and install those drivers. If all you have is the Windows default keyboard driver it probably won't work)
Your best bet would be either to right click the icon in the icon tray (if there is one for your keyboard)
or check the Control Panel if there has been a program installed to accomplish what you seek. (That could as well be an additional tab under Keyboard properties)

I currently run Windows 98 and use Internet Exporer 6.0

Some of the websites I visit used MSN Passport to log in/out.

Recently, my laptop was infected, (Smits Virus),and I used Spybot which eliminated
the problem.

When I attempt to reach the sites that used Passport, I receive a message that states
"Cookies must be enabled"

The Privacy tab on Internet Options remains set at Custom level, and cannot be re-set to default, nor does
the Advanced options allow me to overide cookies or make changes.

Other sites and programs that utilize cookies accept passwords and open, etc. but the
NET Passport sites will not.

Any help on how to restore defaults would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Alright, firstly, I know about the built in login screen customization meant for OEM usage, where you just enable a registry setting, and then put your custom background into the certain folder. That is great, except that for some ridiculous reason it has a 256kb filesize limit.

Then I learned about how you can bypass the limit by just directly editing imageres.dll.

What I'm wondering is that if there is an application that will rotate through several custom login screens on intervals/triggers, similar to the built in desktop slideshow feature. If it could change every certain amount of time, or every time you log in, etc, that would be great as long as it bypasses the 256kb file size limit.

I've searched for such a program but I've had no luck. If no such program exists I'm considering attempting to create something like that.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi there I know where to go to change icons but vista will not allow me to use a custome image.

I am right clicking the desktop > Personalize > then on the left hand side clicking Change Desktop Icons.

But when I browse to my image it does not allow it. I also want to change the default image for folders as well.

Any ideas how I can get around this?

A:Change Desktop Icon for custom images

Hello Matt,

What type of image are you trying to use to replace the icon with? You will only be able to use 256x256 pixel .ico (icon) files for these. This will give you some more details about icons for Vista if needed.

To change the default Folder icons, this tutorial will show you how to. You will need to change the DefaultIcon for the Folder key in step 6.

Ok, so I created a custom template and saved it as such (.dotx). And when I want to use it, I go File>New>My Templates>APA Format.dotx. All of that is fine, and the template works fine.

My question: can I have my custom template show up NEXT to the My Templates folder, Blank Document template, etc. Right now that top row of Available Templates has: Blank document, Blog post, Recent templates, Sample templates, My templates, and New from existing. I want to simply add my custom template to this row of options. That would allow me to select New> APA Format.dotx.

If you need a better explanation, please ask.

I appreciate any and all help!

I have 2 rdp servers that my users login to, on one of the servers my users can change the custom level settings for the trusted sites zone and on the other server its greyed out. I'm missing something but I'm not sure where it is. I've looked at the IESC
and it is the same across both servers. I have done a gpresult /H gpreport.html on both servers as the logged in user and the applied group policies are the same. I have exported the local group policy on both servers and the total unique settings compared
and in common are the same. Anyone got any idea of what I could be missing?

Trying to set up a FP monitor, and in the process I tried changing the bios setting from onboard AGP (flat panel wasn't working with this, had to add another video adapter card) to PCI, thinking I could change it back if ineffective. But now my display on the monitor that WAS working is black, so I can't undo my mistake.

How to undo damage??

A:bios change, now can't view monitor to change back

If you remove the battery on the mothernoard
for a minute or two, the BIOS loses it's
current settings and goes back to the defaults
that will work on any system. You'll have to
let it auto-detect hard drives and everything.

I made a clean installation and downloaded necessary drivers from Lenovo's support site.
It has been a long time since I have had this laptop, so I decided to update the BIOS as well.
The updated BIOS version is B0CNA0WW. I'm uncertain of my previous version, most likely the version that the laptop was shipped with, as this is the first time I updated my BIOS.
Is it possible to revert to previous BIOS version without any further problems?
And if not, how can I get rid of the utterly displeasing BIOS splash in the boot? Or maybe change the splash image?
Mod's Edit: Additional information added to Subject line for clarity of issue.

A:Revert back to previous BIOS or change displeasing BIOS splash screen

I would leave your current BIOS alone.
Maybe another user can help in the BIOS screen change.
Note: Bios is unsigned, you may get a warning message during download.
