Q: Adding a second account to OE

I'm trying to set up a second account in OE5.5. If I understand it correctly, according to this thread, accounts, I can either add the second account to my current identity (2 accounts in 1 identity), or create a second identity and add my second account to that one (2 identities with 1 account per identity).

How do I go about adding to my existing identity? (Tools >Accounts>Add>Mail>Diasplay Name-Next>Then what?) If I select "I already have an e-mail adress that I'd like to use", will it delete my old e-mail account?

This is my personal computer, I acces it alone, so privacy is not an issue. What are the advantanges and disadvantages of each method?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

My Windows 7 account has been set up without a password. If I try to add one, there are warning messages that I may lose stored passwords and something called EFS.
Can I ignore these and add a password to the account?

Hi all

I recently completed the upgrade from Windows 7 to 10 but found I could not log onto a family account I had made for my grandson. I eventually decided to delete the account and create a new one. I successfully deleted the account but now when I try to create a new one I am informed the add family utility cannot be connected.

I have attached a screen shot to help clarify the problem.

I am trying to add a new and totally seperate and independant, Gmail account from my own, for my wife. But when we try to do this, we get an error message, something to the effect that there is already a Gmail account at this address. Can someone tell me how to go about doing this, and explaining it it very basic easy to read, laymans terms. Im not very advanced. I appreciate it.

Which version of windows are you using?

If you are using Vista/Windows Mail, then things have changed.

Under older versions you used to be abe to set up individual identities in Outlook express. That can be done under File, Identities. Each Identity can have a password etc, so taht when they log in, they only get their e-mails etc.

I have added a number of new accounts to my outlook account before with no problem. However I am unable to set the latest one up - I have no proplem with the incoming server set to pop.xxxx.com but the outgoing I have tried using mail.xxxx.com as with the others but it does not work - I am told it is to do with my internet provider aol - but it worked for the others and I have rang them but unfortunately got nowhere - any help would be gratefully appreciated

I have just bought a new Lenovo Yoga 530 and installed Microsoft Office. I can access Outlook, but it simply asks for an email address and password, then can't setup the account. When I choose manual settings and enter the servers etc, it still won't set up the account. The account is our own domain. Works perfectly on other windows laptops, macbooks and devices.
I've read there are problems with Outlook on Windows 10. Does anyone have a fix? I've reset and reinstalled a couple of times already. Nothing changes. So frustrating.

Hi, just wondering if anyone has had any success adding an Exchange Account to the People app (Metro tile)?

I have been able to add (and sync) my Gmail and LinkedIn accounts, but not my work's MS Exchange Account, which is really annoying!

If anyone has been successful, did you enter an IP address or Server Name in the required "Server Address" field as per the attached screenshot?

My ISP has begun filtering SPAM out of my regular incoming e-mail and putting it into a webmail account which I access via my browser. I would like to add that as a 2nd account in Outlook for easier access. The e-mail account wizard seems to think all new accounts must have server addresses. Does anyone know how to add a webmail account to Outlook?

Bought a Windows 8 Dell Laptop.  Downgraded it to Windows 7.  Then upgraded it to Windows 10.  My previous users were brought over.
 
Next did a clean Windows 10 install.
 
Created the first user as ROOT, and by default appears to be an administrator.  All good.
 
Now wish to add normal users (myself and individual family members).  Seems like I can add a family member and "other user".  When doing so, they ask for an email so I put one in.  But then when I try to log in, they ask for a Microsoft account.
 
How do I add users without them having a Microsoft account?

In the left pane, select Family & other users, then click on the Add someone else to this PC button. Hi All,

Hope I'm posting in the right forum. I have a fairly new Windows 7 laptop. I have one "standard" user account named Jason. I want to create an additional user account for my wife (Kate). The procedure looks pretty straight forward, but I do have some questions.

1. Are all the programs/applications that I have installed for my standard account available to the new user account (for example Word, Excel, etc)?

2. What about browers? I have downloaded a number of browsers including Firefox, Groogle Chrome. Will she be able to use these are must she download her own "copy" of the browser? Guess my concern for browsers is keeping the settings I use separate from the settings she might want.

as long as you have installed the programs to use with all users and not a specific one, most programs should work fine like explorers,software etc. i created a user for my sister before travelling and she was able to access all programs normally but without administrator rights(i didnt want it)
1- office would work fine
2- if the browsers are installed she can immediatly use them

Hello everyone,
I am trying to save my email messages from Outlook to the Mail program on my Mac Lion (OS X El Capitain). The problem is it won't let me use the POP protocole, only IMAP works. And I really need to use POP because I want to download my messages onto my computer instead of just viewing them from the server.

Strangely, when I try to add an account, it does it automatically in IMAP without letting me choose. But if I don't write the right info, it doesn't connect and on the next window then it lets me choose. So then I add all the info.
Incoming mail server: pop-mail.outlook.com
Outgoing mail server: smtp-mail.outlook.com
Password: I'm using the 2 step verification so I'm using an application password
And I do have POP protocole activated in Outlook...

Still it won't let me add the account. Il gives the error message: Impossible to verify the name or password of the account. If I try a couple more times, it finally manages to create the new account however all the info is missing about the servers and the ports. So I add the missing info manually and yet it still doesn't work.

I suppose that's a limitation of the Mac email program. Try Thunderbird. On both Windows systems and Linux distributions I've saved IMAP messages to my computers. Never used a Mac, but I suspect that Thunderbird works equally well on it.

Hi,

Im just looking for some advice on how to fix a problem im having, when trying to setup my new business email address on thunderbird email client.

Ive had a website designed & an email address supplied with it. The web designer gave me all the details to setup the email account. Everytime I try to set it up, I get an error message saying "thunderbird failed to find the settings to your email account".

Ive entered all the details I have : IMAP, POP3 & SMTP port numbers, Incoming & Outgoing Servers, along with my username & password.

I told the web designer the problem & he tried to setup the account on his pc using thunderbird. He said the account worked fine & he sent some test emails to confirm that it worked ok.

I have also tried using the free email client the comes with windows 7 & im having the same problem.

Could there be something that im unaware of, blocking the email setup ?

Im currently using norton 360 antivirus software & ive tried looking at these settings, but im not really sure what im doing.

All suggestions welcome,

Check under Tools > Account Settings > "Your Website E-Mail" > Server Settings make sure that the server settings are correct, have the website designer give you the settings he used to send the test emails.

Ok this is really making me ill... I've tried everything I know to do.

Short version: I'm adding an email account to Thunderbird. (I already have 3 addresses set up with no issues-- and yes, I need them all for work).

The new account is giving me fits. It's imap, and the incoming server name (according to my contact at xxxx.org) should be email.xxxx.org. So I set it up, and when I try to log in it tries to connect me at [email protected] instead of [email protected].

Any ideas? Is this enough info?

Hi, i'm trying to add my yahoo! mail account to thunderbird but not sure if i can... i read somewhere that you can only do it if you pay for the advanced version of yahoo mail, but then i ran across this site... http://webmail.mozdev.org/index.html

...only when i try to download the extension it automatically tries to install it into firefox, which of course does not work. Any ideas??

I had 3 accounts on my vista home basic machine - no issues. I add another account, and when I go to log into it it just hangs up on me, after waiting for an hour I deleted the account and readded it. It worked fine the second time. I had to go through this routine with yet another account. The six account, I can't get into at all and now can't access the 4th and 5th ones.....I performed all the regular maintainence and can't seem to figure out why I can't get into these accounts. Anyone see this before?

The simplest way to view and delete Spectrum email is to simply login using their webmail.

Without obviously giving any personal details away, l currently have two email accounts set up.
My main ISP account lets call it [email protected], and a second account with windows live, so let's call that one [email protected] (aka outlook).
Now the question is, if l login to the Windows account (def) how do l, or can l even, download email from my ISP's (abc) account?
Does that make sense?

yes
if you are using windows live mail, even logged into WLM you can download mail to your other account
I have 5 accounts using WLM
You need to set a new account for each one of them
Once you set it up you just click on the Send/Receive Icon at the top of the program and it will bring in mail to each account

I am trying to add several email accounts to 'Mail' in Windows 8.
So far I have successfully added Hotmail, and BT mail. I am now trying to add my 2 Virginmedia NTL accounts using the imap settings shown on the Virginmedia support site but neither of them install correctly...though they do work. The problem is the Folders list on the left hand side shows only Inbox, Flagged, Outbox and then for some very strange reason it lists (Gmail) Folders...see attachment Ntl account.doc.
I have tried deleting these folders but they come back after a few seconds.
I have also noticed that 'Mail' must keep details of additional accounts hidden away somewhere as whichever NTL account I create it always uses the first account name I ever entered...'Ntlworld' which was a typo...and all subsequent attempts to create this account have been spelt correctly.

Does anyone have an explanation for this strange behaviour.

Outlook.com is very funky with regular email accounts. If you are totally frustrated you could install windows live mail and see if that works better. You need to pick up Windows live essentials and do it as a custom install and just check off Windows Live Mail

I have two outlook/Hotmail accounts. One I log into the PC with (which is pretty crappy by the way and is a huge hassle in Windows 10 IMO).
In the mail app, I was able to add the mailbox of the one I use, however I have a second email account through Hotmail that when I try to add the account to the mail app, it asks me to verify with a pin. I have never used a PIN with this account. I went to settings and sign in option, and have an option to change the pin, however it is wanting to change the main account that I log into the pc. The pin appears to be 4 digits (it only allows 4 characters before it auto enters) unlike the main pin which is 8 or 9 numbers.

Hi Bryan, welcome to the Ten Forums.
The PIN the Mail app asks for the verification when a new / another Microsoft email account (Outlook, Hotmail, Live, MSN) is added is the PIN for the Microsoft Account you use to sign in to Windows.

An example: Let's say your Windows 10 sign-in MS account is [email protected], and when signed in using that MS account you want to add your second Microsoft email address [email protected] to the mail app. You enter the credentials for the [email protected], and when done, the Mail app wants to check you are really the user [email protected], the user currently signed in to Windows. To verify this you need to enter the PIN of the current Windows sign-in account, the one of [email protected]

I've only seen this to happen when adding any of the Microsoft's email accounts to the mail app. Adding for instance a Gmail account does not ask it.

Confusing, I have difficulties to understand myself what I just wrote! I hope you get it, though.

I tried to remove and reinstall mail but the Store now says Reinstall and exits when I click on it

I finally found a solution that worked for me. I just renamed the Folder C:\Users\[your User Name]\AppData\Local\Comms. After restarting the Mail App it creates a new one and now I can add accounts. And Calender and People apps work too. Hope this is helpful for someone.

What are you talking about? Why do I want one of these things?
A USB Security Key is a small plastic key-shaped device you can plug into a USB port on a Computer. Some of them light up, some have a small touch-sensitive button, and some have both. But they don't really do anything, you just plug them in. AT least it looks like they don't do anything.

What you can see is the tiny chip inside the plastic. It's connected to the gold-colored contacts on the pluggy-inny side, and when two of those contacts are powered up by your computer through the USB port, a secure token can be read. Software on a computer can get this token and compare it against what it expects to see, and see if the two match. That software can use this result to do "stuff." When you go to log onto your Google account from a computer, the web page code can read one of these keys. If everything matches, you get a green light and can get into your account. If things don't match, you get an error. Everything is encrypted, everything is safe, and no two keys are the same.

Yes my account has 2 step verifications, maybe that's the problem. And please don't tell me to disable the 2 step verifications - it's a very important personal account there's no way I'm willing to disable it.

My existing hotmail email account just switched to outlook express. Since then - I've switched to "windows live mail" and my 2 existing existing email addresses have been sucessfully transferred over to "live mail" and both work.
But now trying to ADD more email addresses in my"live mail account" and all attempts have failed.
Tryed to manually config server settings - and that failed. Commom advice is to "contact your email provider" for server settings...... Well who is provider? hotmail?? outlook express?? windowss live mail?? What gives?? Anyone know where iam going wrong?

OH JOY 'TIS ME AGAIN!

I do seem to have strange problems. Here's the story:
I have WLM & WM on my Vista pc. On my account it all works lovely with hardly any problems in one applicaton; open up WLM and my WM ([email protected]) is available also.

On the different user account, that is another story.
I can open up WLM or WM in seperate applications; open up WLM, close WLM, open up WM, close WM.
But WLM will not incorporate the WM account.
I tried ADD ANOTHER ACCOUNT but though it starts off well it does not go past the password point and either keeps flashing the password login box at me for ever or it says the email account name and or password is wrong.
Now here is the strange bit - on my other pc all is well with this WLM, it rocognises the user name and password of WLM and desk top application mail ([email protected]).

So do I give the different user Admin rights,will that make any difference? Or what?

Help would very much be appreciated!

I have created a new user acct. for my roommate. I/we don't really care much for IE, and I'd like to add Google Chrome, and FF for her, to let her choose her own browser. Plus I'd like to add some other apps for her, and transfer some of her personal info that she's been storing on my administrative acct. (i.e. personal photos and such). So, like I said the account is set up. But when I go to use Chrome, it won't open. It, along with other apps are listed in the list of "approved" applications under the parental control list. (Application Restrictions List) But they either don't show up when searched for,( in her acct.) or won't open and operate. One other example is Faststone Capture. And then, I've got one application, Yahoo, "Unchecked", and yet there it is in her account, AND IT WORKS! I do not get it. The purpose to setting up an account for her was to only restrict that she couldn't delete, or uninstall anything on the computer. I don't care, (obviously within reason) what she installs, but NO TAKING AWAY! lol Here is a screen shot of the restrictions list:So, here I sit, wondering what I did wrong, or forgot to do in order for these to work. I don't care if Yahoo works or not. But her photos being transferred, Chrome/FF working, and Faststone Capture working, are a priority for me. Standard User Accounts do not have access to an Administrative Account, most of these programs where installed to C:\Users\Odean\AppData\Local\(App Name), using the Administrative Account.Since Deb dosn't have rights to your account, copy the files from C:\Users\Odean\AppData\Local\ to C:\Users\Deb\AppData\Local\.The App Data folder is hidden by default, but if you where to type in the full path in the address bar it would work.

This issue just has started. It worked for the 3 years I have owned 20007. I have all the correct boxes checked, I think. The only thing I changed, which coincided with the alerts not working, was added an IMAP account.

Could the adding an IMAP account disable the desktop alert feature?

First let me clarify. I don't have Outlook 2007. But I do have 2003 on one of my machines.That said, I don't believe that just adding an IMAP account would have an adverse effect on your alert settings unless you somehow inadvertantly disabled the feature during the setup of the account. Again, I'm working with 2003, but in my main navigation menu, under Tools, I have a category for Rules and Alerts. This includes an interface for setting up the various rules for your email alerts. I'd start there and make sure all of your preferences are still set up correctly.Hope this helps,Bill

I have encountered with this error while installing MIM Service [MIM SP1] on Windows Server 2016.

I have already rolled out below pre-requisite checks:
1. The account I am using to install is a domain account and local admin on the Server.
2. Authenticated Users? group is a member of the Pre-Windows 2000 Compatible group
3. DNS suffixes are properly configured.
4. Server and the accounts are in the same domain.

I have tried with all the combinations from past 2 days an No SUCCESS in Installation.
I was able to add/remove FIMService account in local group Performance Monitor Users.

Hi, I have a group of teachers here, that I helped setup thier laptops and gave them "Limited" accounts. Now they all need to install different printer drivers, classroom programs, etc. and short of letting them full admin rights to the system, is there a settings in the Admin Tools or User Rights Policies that I can set on the laptops to allow them to install software like printer drivers? They do not log into a domain.

At the schools i work at we actually give them admin rights on there system but not for the domain, this allows them to install all the spyware they want.

In the end we have to fix them anyway and if you don't give them admin rights on there systems they will bug you every 5 minutes to install stuff. I find most teachers are smart enough not to cause to much mayhem with there laptops.

Do the laptops actually belong to them?

All instructions for adding an e-mail account to the mail app, say to go to Settings and click on accounts. When I click on Settings all I get is Change PC Settings, and there is no account option there.

There are several issues that came up when I upgraded to Windows 10. While it is a celebrated and supposedly eye pleasing application, it seems that they have chosen to disregard users and deleted certain preferences from a user's browser.  This makes
it practically impossible for the user to log into several accounts, since every single site requires different types of passwords, and in order for a person to be able to log on to the several accounts, a person would have to carry around a folder with about
100 different account names, user names, passwords, answers to who, what, or where, phone #s & other pertinent information to be able to log onto or recover a lost or forgotten password.I really do not like what Microsoft has done with the new browser.
It looks chick, but to me it's unworkable and a nuisance to use.  If the Cadillac is not broken, why fix it?

so lets start off with context. i have had a keyboard with the same issue and i have gotten the keyboard replaced thinking it would solve my issue. my issue is that whenever i press caps lock or the numbers to the far right of the keyboard, they are not
detected and simply ignored. the only way to use caps lock is by holding down the SHIFT button but thats rather annoying to do. whenever i log onto another account on the same computer, the buttons that were mentioned work just fine on the account. Im not
sure what the issue is since it probably has something to do with the settings of my account. help would be much appreciated

Hello,

Here in the UK, Orange turned off their email address system. I have a GMail account and want to use this in Outlook 2007.

However, I have a POP account which receives but does not send. It is for this reason, I use the GMail account from which to send, but then make my Return address to be that of my POP address.

Anyway, GMail is an IMAP account and Outlook tries to send mail from the POP account as opposed to the Defaulted IMAP GMail account.

For Outlook 2010, 2013, etc, there are Registry fixes for this. I cannot for the life of me find a Registry fix for 2007. Does it exist, with instruction?

A:Outlook 2007 - Make IMAP account default sending account

I have moved a few people off of orange over the last few weeks and then closed down the account on outlook 2007 and 2010

If you have the old orange still set as default account - change to the gmail account as default
also switch off the send and receive - not needed for IMAP

otherwise , not sure what you are trying to do

You can also delelte the account and the POP email will remain - BUT backup and test the PST file first

Hey, I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium on my HP Pavilion Slimline Desktop and I need help getting my Standard user account back to Administrator. I can't run certain programs and I also can't install and uninstall anything. I don't have the Windows 7 Installation Disk to do restore. I have already tried Safe Mode and I can't enable and built in admin either. Please help me! Thank you!

How are you trying to change the type of account?I don't have the Windows 7 Installation Disk to do restoreDo you mean System Restore? If you are, you don't need the installation disk to do this.To use System Restore click on the start orb. In the search box type in System Restore. In the list of results click on System Restore, if you are prompted for an administrator password type it in.Follow the prompts to choose a restore point and restore your computer.
