Preferred Solution: ThinkCentre Edge 71: after OS install, won't shut down, power light & fan continue to work

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A:ThinkCentre Edge 71, Power LED does not switch off

Hello Walter,

Please update the BIOS which will resolve the issue.
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/thinkcentre_bios/9qjy36usa.exe

You may also try the Windows registry setting. Kindly be careful while editing windows registry.
Have a look at the following registry location (note that you need to invoke regedit.exe with administrative privileges in order to make any changes in this location) and ensure that the value ClearPageFileAtShutdown is set to 0 (if it is set to 1, change the value to 0).
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management

Hi I'm looking for a Lenovo ThinkCentre with BIOS-based "auto power on"-feature. This means, if the computer is turend off, it can be configured in the BIOS to start up automatically at a specific weekday and time. The scenario looks like this: the ThinkCentre will be powering a Kiosk-Display and has therefore to start-up Monday to Saturday at 7am. The system will then be shut-down every evening using windows scheduled tasks. So the start-up has to take place not in stand-by or something but in full shut-down. Currently we think about using a M58p or a M81 SFF. But I didn't find any information about the capabilities of theses computers to power-on automatically. Therefore I would be very happy if anyone here could help me. Any help would be appreciated, also about how to find in the specs whether or not this feature is available for a specific model or about alternative models supporting the desired functionality. Regards,Pekori

get into your computers power settings and set them to their defaults. I suspect that this green led is just a status light for the battery charge condition. It is normal

I doubt anyone here remembers, but I made a topic here last month regarding a laptop I was attempting to fix. Basically, someone spilt soda over it and tried to repair it, but after that failed he gave it to me and told me that if I could fix it, I could keep it.

At that point, the problem was when I turned it on, the screen would stay black, but I could hear noises and the power light slowly flashed. I noticed that there was no memory in it though, and since the issues seemed to reflect that, I decided to buy some ram and hope that it was going to be my only problem.

Well, unfortunatly, it wasn't. Now the problem has changed that the power light flashes faster than before, but the screen still remains blank.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be?

EDIT: On a second test, it appers that the flashing is the same speed as before. Also, when I attempt to turn it on, the ligh will stay on for a second and I can almost hear the laptop starting up, but that stops when the light begins to blink.

You know those websites, searches and articles that you pull up on your iPhone or Android phone? With the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, you can now forward them to instantly open on your PC, so you can continue what you?re doing ? researching that project, shopping for those shoes, finishing that article ? with all the benefits of the bigger screen.

Here?s how to get started:
Head to Settings, click on Phone and Add a phone. You?ll need to sign in with your Microsoft Account, if you haven?t already. Type your phone number, and click send.

Once you click send, you?ll receive a text with a link to the app store to download and install an app.

Now, for a seamless browsing experience across your phone and PC, you can download the Microsoft Edge mobile app for free and try out the Continue on PC feature this way! If you?re looking at a website in the app that you want to continue looking at on your PC, simply find the Continue on PC icon on your iPhone or Android phone. Sign in with the same Microsoft Account you?re using on your PC.

Next it will ask you if you want to ?Continue now? or ?Continue later.? If you choose ?Continue now,? the website will open on the linked PC. If you choose ?Continue later,? the website will show up under Action Center for you to get to later when you?re ready.

Head over here for more on what?s new in the Fall Creators Update, and have a great week!

Hi, Got a ThinkCentre Edge72 that I am attempting to recover to factory settings. The partition drive with the Lenovo_Recovery is there, however pressing F11 on start up does nothing. I can access Windows System Recovery Options, when I try System Image Recovery, it is unable to find an image. Further inspection suggests that someone had installed a fresh copy of Windows by other means thus removing any Lenovo software/tools which I think might be what I'm missing to access the Lenovo recovery options correctly. Is there any tools avilable that may allow me to use F11 and use the Lenovo_Recovery Partition?  ThanksTom

Hi. I have a thinkcentre edge 72, Intel Core i5-3330s 3.20 GHz - Intel H61 - 4GB DDR3 - 1TB HDD - DVD/RW - Windows 7 Pro 64Bit One day on startup (from power button) it just ran the fans for a 1 second, and then shut down, then the fans ran again after about 4 seconds for 1 second again and shut down, and repeats. I took the thing apart, fiddled with connections, removed the ram and put it back in, then did the paperclip test on the powersupply.  The powersupply was giving out the required voltages on yellow, orange and red etc.  Powersupply fan runs.  Seams the powersupply is ok. tried removing almost everything from the motherboard - DVD, harddisk, fans, power button (shorted the startup from the connection on the motherboard). Seems to me either the RAM is no good, or the motherboard has a problem.  I don't have any suitable extra ram, so can't test that. I guess before I go out and buy a new motherboard has ANYBODY ANYWHERE had this problem with a Lenovo ?    Can Lenovo experts indicated what they think this might be ? If Not, how can I get my hands on a replacement motherboard? I'd rather not change/upgrade as I don't want to have to reinstall windows 7 or risk data loss.   thanks! Guy

I see no other replies to this... I had somewhat similar problem, 3 days ago: I had Windows7 in "sleep"; when I pressed Power button, only got auxiliary fan full on until I pulled the power plug. Hi. I believe that my moms laptop is infected. The internet just stopped working, despite the full wifi signal. Other devices still work on the same connection. She says it's been really slow, I noticed that her Norton was no longer running(and couldn't be started). I also noticed that the battery will not run the computer, it only works when it's plugged in. However, that doesn't happen until it gets to windows. As in, I turn it on unplugged, it boots, once windows loads it shuts off. There is a split second where I can see that the battery is indicated as charged though

Hello guys, I've got this problem:I've bought a second-hand ThinkCentre Edge 72 SFF desktop and a Lenovo Radeon HD 7450 graphics to go with it. Since it was an OEM Lenovo-branded card and originally available for this very computer as a CTO option, I thought "what could go wrong?" Boy, a lot. I Plugged the card in, installed the OS (Windows 8.1 x64) and the went to fiddle with the BIOS for a bit. That's where I stumbled upon this problem: when the graphics was installed, you couldn't disable CSM and enable Secure Boot, because if you did, you'd lose video. It took me a few tries and a BIOS update to find out what was causing the black screens. So I did some googling and found out Lenovo knows about this and they offer an official solution, which is a VBIOS flash - see here: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/dk/en/solutions/HT081709 Great, huh? So I followed the instructions TO THE LETTER and read everything twice before acting, ran the AtiWinFlash, but got a flash error after a few seconds. Clicked OK, closed the prompt and restarted the PC. To this point I still had video output, however after the reboot the screen was black like when the secure boot was enabled before. So I pulled out the card to see if it's gonna run on IGP and it did, so I loaded BIOS defaults and double checked that CSM is enabled and Secure Boot disabled. Put the card back in to no avail, still no change, which kinda made me sure that the card is bricked. Since then I ... Read more

Hi All,  This is my first post on these forums and I have recently in the last couple of months purchased the above computer. I have made a couple of upgrades to it, in the form of an SSD hard drive and using the Crucial memory scanner I have upgraded the ram from 4gb to 16gb.  It now runs extremely fast indeed, but when I turn the computer on, when it posts it beeps twice, two short beeps, then continues to load windows 7 fine and works flawlessley.  I have been trying to diagnose the two short beeps upon startup for a few weeks now and am getting no where fast. I found the following article on these very forums but the suggestions dont seem to have made a difference to my situation.  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-E-H-K-M-Q-and-ErazerX/Lenovo-H330-2-short-beeps-at-power-up-but-... This issue can be intermittant, I would say it happens 6 to 7 times out of every 10 times the machine is turned on. Initially I wasnt getting any form of error on the screen at all, until I went into the BIOS, cleared the error log and rebooted the machine. Then I got the error as follows - Error 0162 : Setup data integrity check failure Now this error code does not seem to exist on the Lenovo website, I found the following links which were helpful in showing me all sorts of other codes and beep sequences, the first one lists the two short beeps and links to an error code list - https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/migr-46... Hello I tried to install a power supply with my dell now I get a steady amber light after I removed the power supply since it had showed me an amber light. With the old power supply, I still get the steady amber light. I noticed that on the LED in the back, I got a yellowish amber colored light as well. With the new power supply it didn't have the exact four pin layout of my old one but had an eight pin layout that was seperated so that I could ease a four pin in with my computer. Did this blow out the motherboard? The major thing I did was remove the heatsink which had pins connected to it when I tried to install this video card but I noticed that some of the pins bent out of shape so I got a new heatsink only this time the heatsink I recieved has no pins. I installed the heatsink and tried to boot the pc but it won't boot only the fan spins and none of the indicator lights in the front turn on. Is the motherboard or processor dead? Thanks.

Hi,

Yesterday I received my Lenovo ThinkCentre Edge E73 and the first thing I did was update my Windows 7 professional. However, after it had rebooted about 3 times it froze on the 'loading windows' screen.

After a reboot, the startup repair launched and was restoring to a previous state. The pc rebooted and tried to do a CHKDSK but it failed and loaded the welcomescreen but froze with the message that winload.exe was damaged. Knowing about the system recovery partition I booted it at start and selected the option to restore the whole pc to factory state. Unfortunately, this happened.

I tried using a retail windows 7 pro-disc to repair the computer since the recovery partition shortcut (f11) didn't work anymore. However, it didn't even recognize that the old windows was there, untill I looked at the partition manager.

It seems the recovery partition is still intact but I can't boot to it anymore. Will it work if i delete the old windows7_os partition or do I have to do anything else? The bios is setup to start from the harddisk.

Thanks in advance,
Joeri

Is it possible to run it with this computer with the 180W power supply? Or do I need a bigger for example 250W? I have upgrade the memory to maximum of 8Gb. Next question. The pci-e slot on the motherboard. Can it deliver full power of 75W to the graphic card? See pictures for full information about the computer. Thank you for your help!

All I need to keep using this machine is an HDMI output, but I know diddly-squat about graphics cards! Will an Asus GeForce GT 710 1GB DDR3 Graphics Card (less than £30) do the trick? It appears to be OK as PCI Express 2.0 will work in PCI Express 1.0 slot, just at a lower speed?Appreciate any advice, many thanks.

I am running windows xp professional with service pack 2. Service pack 3 will not install!!! I am running Comodo Firewall and Norton Anti-Virus.For the last few days my computer has been coming to a slow crawl. I was restarting several times a day and could only do that by pressing the off/on switch.I did a scan with my anti-virus (Norton) and ran Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. They found nothing.I started checking Windows Task Manager to see what was eating up my resources. To my surprise I found that programs were continuing to run in the background even when they had been shutdown. I have found as many as 6 instances of firefox running under processes although none were showing up under applications. I first thought it was a firefox problem but when I ran IE it continued to run in the background also after it was closed. If I remove these background processes, things would be normal for awhile but then start again as I used the internet. Unless this is a new bug in windows I suspect that it is a malware problem. As I write this, firefox is using 0-3 % of my CPU capacity but as soon as I close it down, the CPU usage will jump to 99% and remain there until I delete the process.I am posting a hijackthis log. I have this system ? ??Product Name: 3574G5Q Machine Serial Number: ******** ? Think Centre Under warranty. I called and then chatted Lenovo Chat support, and asked them that i want to upgrade to Window 7 Home Basic from 32 bit to 64 bit, but the Lenovo gave me the false information that it is not posisble because it is shipped preinstalled. please mark my word false information.

But later I contacted Microsoft and they said ? The same COA (key) is legally usable for 32 and 64 bit windows as of win 7 and onward. He also said the key comes pre-installed in the mother board.  The Microsft Guy was such a fantastic fellow that they called me and the Lenovo customer care India through conferenece call, and expalined them that do not give false inormation. Lenovo team was unable to provide me the COA (key), and later now they are asking me to visit the nearest center to obtain the Window 7 Home Basic recovery media 64 bit buy paying a price, wich is above 2600INR(50$USD). Mys system is in warranty, and I have  a leagal License this sounds very tortuous and an attempt to drill my pocket. I should get this recoverable media free of cost.
