which UltraDock for X270

Q: which UltraDock for X270

Hi, I have X270 model 20HMDOSUS. Wanted to buy UltraDock. They came in 3 flavours: with 65, 90 and 135 W. Which one is enough for me? The laptop came with 65W USB-C power supply, so I assume 65 W would be enough, but prefer to ask.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Well ThinkPad Ultra Dock doesn't comes with 65W variant.

I have two thinkpads: an X280 (20KF001UUS) and an X1 Carbon (20KH002HUS).  I bought an ultradock 40A90090US.  It works fine with the X1 but doesn't work at all with the X280.  It cannot detector my monitor or the USB connection for my wireless mouse. Both work fine with the X1.  Any help would be appreciated.

I have a T470p, with a 170W UltraDock, and a NEC MultiSync EA275UHD 4K monitor.I use NEC SpectraView to color calibrate my monitors. The UltraDock DisplayPort  connector does not support DDC/CI, and I am forced to connect the monitor using the notebook's direct Mini-DisplayPort, obviously very inconvenient.  How can I get the UltraDock to support DDC/CI, so the SpectraView software can communicate with the display?

I have 3 Dell U2414H monitors that support DisplayPort 1.2 daisy chaining.  I purchased the T440s with docking station.  The laptop arrived before the dock.  It has Windows 8.1 Pro x64 running.  I setup the monitors to daisy chain off of the T440s miniDP port.  I got exactly as I should.  3 separate monitors.  I could maximize windows inside a monitor and they'd maximize to their monitor.  I could drag windows between monitors.  Everything is working. When the dock came in (today) I left the monitors daisy chained.  I did change out one cable (that I know is working) so that the DP input would attach to the dock's DP output.  I am not getting a picture on the monitors.  If I use just one monitor, and turn off DP1.2 (in the monitor's menu), I get a picture on one monitor.  Do these docks not support daisy chaining?  I've verified that I'm on FW 2.17 for the dock.  I also want to submit a support ticket with Lenovo, I just don't know how to do that yet.  Thanks!

Just bought a new UltraDock from Lenovo (to replace the older version that made external speakers buzz loudly when computer was powered off) and am finding it is a bit flakey when my T460p is docked. The problem seems to be the computer does no quite click in properly -- sometimes the display or keyboard will stop working, only to be bought back to life by me pushing down on the computer to re-establish the connection with the dock. Sometimes the display will start to pixelate, only to return to normal when I press down on the machine again.  I can't tell if it's the computer's docking port or the port on the dock itself that is at fault (or both). My T460p does have the extended 72Wh battery -- could that be sticking down slightly too far and impeding the dock connection? Either way, there's no firm "click" that I used to hear in the past when connecting to a dock. More of a faint click that suggests things are not quite connecting fully. I'm also able to lift up the back of the machine and disconnect it from the dock even when it is supposedly locked into the dock using the dock key. Surely this can't be right? Anyone else having such problems? Do I need to send the dock back?

A:T460p bad connection with UltraDock

I have two docks, one at home and the other at, well, my other (vacation) home. I had some issues getting my T460p to seat at first, but I don't seem to be having that problem anymore.I occasionally have issues with the T460p properly recognizing the displays attached to the docks, but a sleep/awake cycle often fixes that. It definitely stays locked in place when I turn the key, though.

Hello, I have an issue where the DisplayPort will only out put a max resolution of 2560x1440. I have a Samsung UHD U28D590D external monitor that runs a 4k resolution ([email protected]). If I plug in the monitor using the UltraDock's DisplayPort, my max resolution is 2560x1440. However, if I use an HDMI cable, the max resolution is as advertised ([email protected]) I've tried updating all the drivers on the W550s to the lates, updated the bios, and installed the recent monitor inf file.  I need the DisplayPort [email protected] to work, as that's why I bought this machine! I know the display adapter supports it...it appears to just be a DIsplayPort/UltraDock issue...but I may be wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Jeb

The Ethernet port in my Thinkpad Ultradock 40A2 won?t connect to the network anymore, and displays a status of ?Network Cable Unplugged? even though there is a verified working connection plugged into the dock.  This dock had worked flawlessly for four months until yesterday when I needed to use the Ethernet connection on my Thinkpad T450s (undocked).  Previously I had only used the laptop undocked in WiFi mode.  My T450s? Ethernet port works as expected when undocked, but neither the laptop Ethernet nor the dock Ethernet work when the T450s is docked. I have tested this connection with different cables, routers, and laptops to verify 100 percent that everything downstream from the dock is working correctly. I then upgraded (via WiFi) all drivers and BIOS for the T450s and upgraded the Ultradock Firmware.  Immediately after that, the dock Ethernet connection worked until the laptop was rebooted then it reverted to the adapter status of ?Network Cable Unplugged? in Control Panel>Network Connections. My wild guess is that after enabling the T450s Ethernet port something in the OS is forcing the Ethernet port on the laptop to have priority over the dock Ethernet port, but the T450s? Ethernet port is designed to not function when docked.  I have no idea how or where I would investigate or change this behavior.  Ethernet has priority over WiFi in advanced settings. Should a second, separate Ethernet adapter be show... I have been using the Pro dock since I got the T460p, but I needed multi-monitor support, so I just got the Ultra dock. The issue I'm having is that I can't connect neither my Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse combo (K345) to the dock, nor a normal USB keyboard. When I plug in the usb dongle into the dock, I get the following: And neither the keyboard nor the mouse work. I tried using a simple USB mouse and a simple USB keyboard (so simple, they don't even have a manufacturer's name on them). While the mouse works, I get this from the keyboard, which doesn't work:  I have another Logitech wireless combo, which also doesn't work with the Ultra dock, btw. I can get the K345 to work, but only when I plug in the dongle directly to the laptop (lid closed, still on the dock).Meanwhile, USB memory sticks work just fine when plugged into the dock's usb ports. I am using the 230W charger with this setup, so it's not a power issue. A couple of things I've already tried:- I've downloaded the Logitech SetPoint software (something I've never done in my life, but just to cover that angle)- I've updated the dock firmware, as noted by the Lenovo's System Update Center software. I am at my wits end here, any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I have a lenovo carbon running windows 10. The lenovo is connected via the power/video out cable to a Lenovo ThinkPad USB-C UltraDock With 90W 2 Prong AC Adapter (40A90090US). the dock is connected to two dell u2518d monitors (from bestbuy) via separate DP to DP cables. I also tried the DP to mini DP (with mini DP going into the monitors). No matter how I configure it, one of the monitors works perfectly with 125% sizing and 2560x1440, both of which are "recommended". The other monitor, however, does not show the same recommended sizing or resolution. instead it shows 100% recommended, and does not have 2560x1440 as an option - i can only select 2048x1080. I have tried several different configuration. i called tech support and they were useless. can you help please?

A:ThinkPad UltraDock not supporting dual monitors

Probably not enough bandwidth to pump 8Mp (2*2560*1440) 60 times per second. Try reducing screen refresh rate to 30Hz in settings, this might help.  User guide for the dock is not promising much: Maximum resolutions and refresh ratesTo achieve better display experience, it is recommended that you connect one or two external monitors to the dock at a time.? DP output only: 3840 x 2160 pixels (30 Hz)? VGA output only: 1920 x 1200 pixels (60 Hz)? DP and VGA simultaneous output: 1920 x 1080 pixels (60 Hz) ? Hi,I'm having some trouble with the t540p in the UltraDock. I have a setup with 3 displays:- internal- external on DVI- external on DisplayPortThe external ones are connected to the UltraDock. I've got the problem, that the external monitor on the DVI-Port blanks frequently (about every 15min) for 2-3 seconds.Less frequently (about once every 1-2 hours) all external Monitors blank for about 5-10 seconds and you can hear in the speakers the Windows sound for disconnecting and reconnecting devices. Another abnormality I discoverd is, that when I use the t540p without the Dockingstation (but a power supply connected) the screen dims down to "battery level" from time to time (also only for some seconds) and the Battery-Symbol changes from "mains operation" to "battery operation" while the brightness is dimmed. This happens with both power supplies (the one shipped with the t540p and the one shipped with the UltraDock) Maybe these effects could be related somehow?Does any of you experience the same issues or has got any clue what could be the problem here? Best Regards,Andre

Hi, I've seen this for many years, on many different ThinkPad models and generations, on multiple variants of Windows (8, 8.1 and 10 for sure, and maybe 7, but its so long ago since we had any 7 machines that i cannot recall if the problem existed then). External monitors on occation blacks out for a few seconds before re-appearing. It might happen multiple times within a minute, or once a week - so it is highly sporadic. I am currently running a P51, but my colleagues in my current department also experience this. They are on P51 and W550s. All my ThinkPads since 2011 have had this: T510, T520, T530, W540, and now, P51. I'm on DisplayPort, and currently using daisy chain to connect 2 external displays (2x Dell U2515H), and my internal monitor disabled but the lid is open.

Hello all, I currently have an issue with at least 2 users... When working on a Win10 T450s laptop, docked to an UltraDock with an external monitor while the laptop lid closed, ejecting the laptop(with lid closed but computer on) from the dock does not cause the laptop to automatically go to sleep. I have all Windows 10 settings configured to sleep when it detects the laptop lid as closed. This can be a real problem if the user thinks the laptop is going to sleep automatically and puts in their laptop bag with the laptop on, and potentially cause overheating issues and damaging the laptop. Is there a setting I'm missing or is this a bug? For time being I'm instructing users to manually put their laptop to sleep prior to undocking. Thank You, -Mark

I need some advice about the displays for the x270 ? is the HD display on the x270 an IPS? I didn?t find this info here https://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-x/ThinkPad-X270/p/20HNCTO1WWENUS0/customize?...! My current x240 with has HD resolution (I can?t tell if it?s IPS or not) model 20ALCTO1WW ? I?m considering replacing it with the x270.I?ve heard good things about the FHD display but I?m concerned that with the FHD panel my font size will be too tiny for my 50+ year old eyes in its native resolution. I?ve heard that scaling the display results in suboptimal rendering/quality of text/fonts. Has anyone looked at both versions of the display? How do they compare? I?ll be using the system for mostly coding/writing and perhaps watching some videos. No Graphics or PS intensive work. Might hook it up to the tv from time to time (not that often) The display on the x240 isn?t the greatest (could be brighter for sure) but it works fine, so I could probably do fine with the same type for the x270 ? or is there something that I ought to consider? Thanks! PS: FWIW, I?m planning to get the i5-7300 model with 16 GB RAM and the 500 GB drive (that I plan to replace with a standard SSD 500 GB or 1TB drive ? hopefully not a problem).

I can't seem to find a power input rating for the X270 I currently have on order. Of course, I know you can use a 65w with one, but it won't improve charge times if the amp input is limited. The store pages don't list the AC adapters output ratings by adapter and the C.S. chat reply was, "I don't have that information available." I know the output on the 45w is [email protected] simply because I already have one for my X240. Anyone with a 65w willing to post the output for me would be greatly appreciated. More appreciated would be anyone that happens to know what the X270's input ratings are so I can determine if charge times could be cut with a 65w. TIA

Hi I am hoping others have experienced the same issue.  I have a brand new x270 running windows 7 64bit. I have installed Sophos encryption which uses bitlocker. When I tried to encrypt the SSD a message popped up and said TPM was not available. I rebooted the system and checked the TPM version in the BIOS it was set to 2.0 so changed to 1.2, logged back into windows and the encryption completed successfully.  However the problem i now have is every time i boot up i am asked to to provide the retrieval codes to get back into Windows. I believe the issue is with the TPM chip holding the first attempt in its memory. How do I clear it though?? From within bitlocker management in control panel I can clear tpm but it asks for a password. I have never supplied one !!!!.  If i reboot the laptop and again check the settings in the BIOS there is an option to Clear TPM with the option "Enter" but when selected it appears not to do anything. Has anyone had this issue or know how to get around it please. At the monent I have had to suspend bitlocker until resolved. Thanks in advance

Hi, I have checked by BELARC there are two memory slots in my X270. Currently I have 1 memory card (1 x 8GB) installed, can I use the second slot to increase  the RAM with another 8GB memory card ? Iīve heard that couldnīt do that, instead I should buy a 16GB card to replace the current one. Anybody can I help me ?

Hello! I was wondering if it was possible for an X270 to support three external monitors (with the built-in display off/closed) using either a dock or a combination of the dock + onboard video ports?

I have a new X270, Type 20HNCTO and cannot figure how to activate the keyboard backlight.  Normally the "FN" key pressed with the spacebar turns it on on previous X models. Is there a special sequence or perhaps the X270 does not have a backlight on the Keyboard?

On CTO(configure to order) models a backlit keyboard was an option.  Did you buy that option?

Dear forum members. I just  bought thinkpad x270. This laptop came with 256 gb m.2 SSD. I would like to upgrade it to 2 tb 2.5 sata SSD. I have bought a different ssd cable with proper connector for sata ssd. However simply replacing m.2 ssd with sata did not work. After turning the laptop on I am getting the message 2100 error initializing main sata ssd. Sorry, it is not exact error, I don't remember exactly, however something similar.  I would like to find, first of all, is it possible to install the 2.5 sata ssd to Thinkpad x270, if yes, do I need to change any BIOS settings?  Would anyone just let me know, how I can install the 2.5 sata ssd into this laptop and if it is all possible? Any info would be greatly appreciated!
