I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

see above, i have 2 200gb internal hard drives in a lacie external case, is there a program that can help, i have i lot of data that would realy be a bummer if i lost it
please help!

A:My computer just stopped reading my hard drive today, what should I do?

You are going to have real trouble with a LaCie external drive. They are famous for their failures.
I would be it in another USB enclosure that has a separate power adapter, then not turn it off until you have made many attempts.
The problem with those drives is that one or more of the chips on the back goes dead... or the system board.
But if it is not the board, you can usually recover the data as long as the bearings are turning.
As for programs, you must find a way to get it detected, then do NOT turn it off again... There is a decent program we like called Recuva. And many others at www.majorgeeks.com that can rescue most data... if the drive will turn, and if the chip or system board is not bad.

Hello all, I am in dire need of help with my DVD-ROM Drive, otherwise I will have to send my computer in to the company where they will wipe the HDD.

I know how to burn DVDs and everything, and my computer has had no problem with it, up until yesterday. I was using my usual program to burn a DVD with, but this time --for the 1st time-- about 15% into the burning process, it came up with a dialogue box that said "Cannot set address for....." and then it displayed a bunch of numbers below that. Now, everytime I insert a blacnk DVD of any kind, any brand, what have you, you can hear the laser in the drive bouncing around like it's trying to read a badly scratched disc whereas the discs are spotless, and after about minute, it spits them out. I have run virus scans, done a system restore and had the drivers reinstalled, but to no avail. BUT!!!!! Here is the weird thing: It will read any other disc I stick in there perfectly! It makes no sense. Can any of you guys help me with this problem? If you can help me with this and stop them from having to wipe my HDD for no real reason, then you are the best person ever!!! Thanks alot, guys!

I didn't know if this was the right forum to post this in, but I am pretty sure that it is a problem with Vista.....

I can no longer transfer pics from camera to computer. When I plug camera into computer  nothing happens. it used to work fine and ive made no changes. Except for the latest win security update. Not sure if my issue started right after that, but maybe.
canon powershot a520. win7 sp1 with all security updates. Not using the canon picture software. Just plug in the usb cable, then see the camera in win explorer, drag the pic files to HDD, delete them from the camera then turn off the camera and unplug it. Been doing this for years. The last few times I had to turn the camera off and on a few times before I saw it in win explorer, now even that wont work anymore.
Last time I charged my cell from the usb cable a few days ago I got the attached notice, but it still charged, so I forgot about it. I just now plugged the cell into usb and got this again. I never saw this notice previously when charging my cell.
Please help me. I need my pics,

A:computer stopped seeing my camera (USB issue?)

Excellent little cameras. I think the one my wife keeps in her car is a 520, the one she uses most is a 590 but they are virtually identical.

Have you tried simply taking the card out of the camera and plugging it directly into the computer, either into an SD card reader slot if it has one or by card reader and USB?  This is the method I always use because I find it considerably quicker than via a cable connection. Also, in my experience, using a cable connection requires the camera to be switched on, and this chews batteries !  If you don't have an SD slot i really suggest buying a USB card reader, they are pretty cheap.

Is it possible the batteries died on you ?

I am using an HP Pavilion dv5215 with XP service pack 3. When I try to put an SD card in the slot, the light that recognizes a card is in flashes for about half a second but doesn't stay on, and XP does not detect any card in the slot.
I tried putting the card in slowly and I found the light flips on intermittently as the card is being inserted. I eventually managed to find a position where the card is about half way in and the light will stay on - but when I did this the computer froze until I moved the card and the light turned off. During no time did the computer ever make the noise that it detected hardware.
The last time I have tried, as I pulled the card out I got the hardware inserted noise... and the hardware removed noise immediately after. I tried to build on this progress but it was to no avail.
What is going on and how can I fix it? I used this laptop a few years ago and the card reader worked back then. The OS is fully updated and according to device manager the SD slot driver is up to date as well.

They shouldn't make it so easy to refomat your SD card while it's in the camera but it happened. It's a Canon Powershot SD1100 IS.

Now, I know all about recovering things that are lost but I seem to have run into a bit of a roadbump here. The SD card does not show up when I plug it into my card reader. Okay fine, so I decided to put the card back into the camera and plug it in VIA USB to run Recuva on it via that way - sadly the only thing that shows up is "Portable Media Device" and Recuva can't see that because it doesn't have a drive letter assigned to it, BUT it doesn't show up in Disk Management EITHER.

Now, the SD slot works with my SDHC 8GB card just fine, works fine with my MicroSD adapter with my 2GB microSD card, but for some reason since this card was formatted in the camera it just doesn't want to show up under the explorer at all.. Anyone have any ideas on how to 1. Get this card to show up in explorer and then 2. Get all my pictures back?

Unplug ALL USB devices.
Open Device Manager.
View, Show Hidden Devices.
Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers.
Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished. Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one.
If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the entries there as well.

When this is done, reboot TWICE.

Reconnect the USB devices and see if they're recognized properly.

Has anyone tried connecting a Nvidia and ATI graphics card together on the same computer?

I currently have an Nvidia 7900GT card and keep having crashes to the desktop in the game ES4 Oblivion. From what I found online Nvidia cards are unstable for the game.

I'm using an XFX 680iLT motherboard that uses the Nvidia chipset.

Thought about buying an ATI Radeon card in the 2nd PCIx slot.

Anyone know if the 2 cards will conflict with each together?

A:Can a 2 PCIx slot computer run ati and nvidia card?

First things first: nVidia cards are just fine with Oblivion. Not sure where you found that out, but there is probably something else going on with your system that causes your crashes. What are the rest of your system specs? It may be a problem with something else. Also, make sure your video card drivers are up-to-date.

Second: If you're talking about running both cards in combination, it ain't gonna happen. Dual-card setups need to be matched, and the motherboard needs to support it.

If you're simply talking about having two cards installed that you can switch back and forth, I'm not sure it's such a good idea, if it's even possible. There are all kinds of potential conflicts that can (and probably would) arise.

A:Computer not reading my SD card

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

You haven't given us your system specs, so I'm guessing it's a compatibility issue.

Chances are, Windows 7 can't find a driver for the card reader so I think your best bet is to have a look on your computer manufacturer's support site and see what drivers they have there.

Hello all! This problem started up two days ago. I attempted to boot up my Medieval Two Total War Kingdoms expansion pack. It successfully got to the menu, but whenever I attempted to enter a 3D battle screen, it CTDs. Now, I have had this problem before but only for M2, and I assumed it was just Vista acting up again.

However, I have tried opening both World in Conflict and Red Alert 3 and both of these games CTD before they even reach the menu. World in Conflict tells me that a 3D "graphics card" or something along those lines cannot be read. This seemed to indicate to me that something is wrong with the graphics card or PC itself, not the games.

The only one that still works is Warcraft III; every other game will CTD either in a 3D battle or at the menu. Warcraft III is the only older game I have tried running, all the games that CTD are recent and fairly graphics-intensive, if that helps at all.

Any help really appreciated, thanks!

I was going to play a game and it told me That I needed new drivers, so i looked up how to find what card I had.

I found out that I has something called a "VgaSave' card. I don't know much about cards so it didn't raise any red flags. I looked up the drivers for it and found out it was a fail safe of some sort. Any ways, I took apart my computer and found out the graphics card (Navidia Asus v3800-lp) and downloaded the drivers. I installed them, restarted my computer and nothing happened.

I installed the "chipset" (I guess it's the drivers) so I have no idea what to do now. these are the areas that i found wrong in my journey.

Help - I'm not real computer savvy with all the terms so go easy on me. I want to add a 2nd monitor and was told I needed a 2nd graphics card. I purchased a PNY Verto GeForce GT 730 graphics card (Best Buy guy's advice). I got the card in with no problems, plugged the 2nd monitor cord into the new VGA port and turned it on. The 2nd monitor came on but the original monitor was black. I ran the software for the new device, but still nothing. I then switched the cords around so my original monitor is plugged into the new VGA port. Now the original monitor is working but the 2nd one is black. I assume this means my computer isn't recognizing the ORIGINAL graphics card???

I looked in Device Manager to see if there was an exclamation point, but all it shows is the new one: NVIDIA GeForce.

I have a Lenovo desktop. 64 bit. I can't wait until Monday to call PNY and need to fix this ASAP. Any help is appreciated!

Some computers disable the original-built-in card when you add a second aftermarket one.
There should be another place to add another monitor on the new card. It should be able to handle both.

Edit: Your power supply can handle the new card right?

When I plugged in my Digital Camera (Canon), I was able to access the card, but only images and video are displayed.

I use the same card in my keyboard/synthesizer (Korg), to backup my sounds/presets.

When I was running Windows XP, these files appeared and I was able to copy from and to the card, to have a backup in my computer, or to update the keyboard with other presets I've downloaded.

I do not own nor have access to a card reader at the time to see if I can get the files this way.

I read something about PTP (picture transfer protocol), Windows 7 may be restricting the device, but I'm just guessing here.

Is there a workaround or any way to set up the device/sd card in the camera as a regular drive or mass storage device?

Thanks in advance.

Windows 7 is setup to read media files from the Camera. I suspect you will need to get a card reader or use a friend's and copy over those data files to a USB stick. If the Camera has a software package, you might try installing it.

It would not turn on for hours. When it did there was a window up saying that windows was unable to start and attempting to repair. It was not able but starts up anyways. Some times the screen is back but i can see it if i shine a flashlight on it. Other times its normal. when it starts up it will work but the mouse and keys is very delayed and will cut back off and may take me hours to get it back.
I found a file that was added when i transferred and deleted it. I ran spybot and adware and avg. they found nothing. I did system restore. it said it was unable. I dumped all of windows and did a recovery. It didnt help. What now? I am a beginner so talk English and dont assume i understand

I have two cameras, two SD Cards, and two notebooks. I don?t take that many photos so I don?t need to transfer photos to my computer very often. I have been using the same equipment for a while now, without any hiccups.

During the holidays, I took quite a few photos. When I tried to transfer the photos to my computer by inserting the SD card in the card slot, a dialogue box popped up asking me to format the card. It had never happened before. Every time I used to insert the card, autoplay dialogue box used to pop up. I removed the card and tried it again. Same result; dialogue box asking me to format it. I tried it in the other notebook, also running Vista Home Premium SP1 with autoupdate. Same thing happened. I tried the other SD card which still had some old photos and had worked fine in both computers earlier. That card failed in both machines too.

Both cards work fine in the cameras. Both cards used to work fine in my notebooks. Is it possible that a recent update has caused this failure? Is there a solution?

Both computers are on Vista Home Premium 32-bit with SP1 and set to automatic updates. Both computers have Norton Internet Security 2008. SD cards are:

- 128MB Kodak
- 2GB Patriot Memory

Both cameras are Kodak.

A:Vista has stopped reading SD Card

Try updating or re-installing the card reader's drivers - if you can find the card reader's make and model, go to the manufacturer's website and download the drivers.
You may find the make and model through the Device Manager: Start > Computer > System Properties (in menu bar at top) > Disc drives. Sometimes they are just listed as Generic card reader or Generic USB device. R click on the SD reader and go to Properties > Update driver software > search automatically for driver software.
Alternatively you can download and install Everest Home Edition and use it to find the make and model of your card reader (hopefully) and go to the manufacturer's website to get drivers.
Have you a friend with a card reader that you could try your cards in to see if they work or have become corrupted?

I have an one year old HP pavilion with Vista 32 bit and a Canon A650 IS digital camera. I downloaded photos successfully for a year by just plugging the USB cable into the camera and computer. Then a couple months ago, the computer stopped recognizing the camera. I discovered though that the computer would recognize the SD card if I removed it from the camera and inserted it in the computer's onboard SD card reader. So that is what I've been doing...till today...now my computer will not recognize the SD card either. The SD card (transcend 8 GB) continues to work in my camera though, and I can scroll through the pictures I just took (and have been trying to load into my computer all morning!). I even installed Canon's Zoombrowser software off the original disk--doesn't recognize card or camera either. Checked for new drivers but none seem to be required. Tried two other USB ports--no luck. Any suggestions?

I have an HP desktop running Win 7 Pro. My DSLR uses SD cards, and I have always been able to insert the card into the slot, have a little green light come on, then a few seconds later have the card launch a new instance of Windows Explorer showing the card as Drive G. Suddenly (within the last 48 hours or so), the computer can no longer read a card. I tried disabling and re-enabling the drive letter, tried uninstalling, and rebooted twice. Nothing worked.

When I insert a disk and try to view its contents, I get an error message that says, "Please insert a disk into Removable Disk (G). The drive is identified as "Generic- Compact Flash USB Device", and it says that it is "working properly".

The SD card is fine. I have two different SD cards, and I can open both of them on other computers without any problems, but neither one can be opened on this computer. I have checked for driver updates, and I am told that I am using the current driver. Could the slot have just died?

A:SD Card Slot on HP Desktop suddenly stopped recognizing cards

Hi yes it could have died. but go to hp support site and see if they have an updated driver for the card reader.

Hi,

Just got a Canon Rebel XSi. I took a few pictures, took the memory card (I have a Transcend SDHC Class 6 8GB) out and was able to transfer them fine to my computer. When I put the memory card back in the camera I formatted the card (the manual recommend that this be done). Since I have done this, I have taken more pictures and my computer won't read the memory card at all.

Normally when I put in the card something pops up asking what I want to do. Nothing happens now and I can't find it anywhere.

I also tried putting the memory card in my boyfriend's computer and it didn't work either. We tried other memory cards and they worked fine.

What can I do to fix this problem?

Thanks!!

I got a kodak camera for Christmas, and when i plugged it into my computer, i was hoping it would be as easy as> go to My Computer and go into camera and copy paste my pics and vids, but my camera does not create a drive letter. I know i have that drive letter activated, because i have a sandisk 4gb flash drive that always creates a drive letter (and i'm plugging them both into the same USB hub). I'm running Windows XP Pro on my pc, but when i plug my camera into my brother's Vista laptop, it shows up perfectly.
Then yesterday i got a card reader (hoping that would solve my problem), and the same exact thing is happening. I plug it in, and it does acknowledge that it's there (it says new device insatalled and when i go to device manager, it shows up there with name and all), but it just doesn't show up as a drive letter. The card reader also works perfectly on my brother's vista, but i don't see a reason it shouldn't work on xp pro. One interesting thing i found was when i go to device manager and properties on my card reader, teh version was years newer than when i device managered the reader on my pc. So i tried updating the drives, but it said it was unsuccessful (i assumed there weren't any newer drivers, but ... idk) can someone please help??? Thank you so much in advance...

Matt

ok the lady I got this comp from says the comp the video card its reading now is not as good as the one in the PCI slot so Im wondering how do I make it so it reads the PCI slot

The AGP vid card though comes out with a Adaptor to make it so you can plug in moniters

Anyway Should I leave my moniter plug in the AGP slot video card or put it where no video card is but goes right into the computer

and no there is no plug that goes into the PCI slot

I hope this is understanable

thanks

That's known as integrated graphics, now do you have a PCI video card and an APG video card or an Integrated video card and an AGP card?

Also what are they Radeon xxxx? or Nvidia xxxx? we need to know the model numbers to tell you which is the better on to use.

i am trying to do something but it does not seem to be working. could some one please help me.

i have some photos on my computer which i want to put on to my fujifilm xd picture card so that i can take them to a shop to get the printed out. i have made sure that the file is a jpeg and the filename has no spaces. i then copied the pictures and attached my camera to my computer.
i went into My Computer to access the folder where the pictures are stored on the camera, i knew it was the right place as the photos that where already on my camera where showing. i then pasted the photos and they were then shown as on my camera's picture card.

i then disconnected the camera and checked that the photos had been stored on the picture card, but it just said "read-error" where the photos i had just copied should have been.

i have a finepix a204 digital camera.

are the pictures on the memory card so that i can print them out at the shop? or am i doing something wrong?
could someone please help me and tell me what i should be doing.
Thanks.
Matt

My camera dropped from the seat of the van. When i went to use it the camera said i needed to reformat the card. I took the card out and tried it again and it was fine. I took more pictures with no problems. When i went to download the pictures into the computer the computer wouldn't recognize the card and says it needs to be reformatted. The camera still shows the photos taken. How can i download the photos and then reformat the card so i won't have future problems.
i have an olympus c-4000 zoom. the smart media card is 32 mb PNY

A:smart media card reads on camera but computer does not recognize wants to reformat

It sounds like your useing the "software" to download the images.
Go out of software.......goto your "C" drive via windows explorer and look for the drive allocated for the camera goto the drive and open folder and drag images to another folder on C-drive.

JUST MY OPINON...............................

My PC suddenly stopped recognizing my camera card to download pictures. I tried restarting my computer, which always worked in the past, the few times that I had problems. That didn't work. I tried plugging in my camera straight to the computer, no luck. Tried another card, no luck. Tried a new card reader, one that you can put a variety cards into, no luck. I have Windows 8. Don't know where to go for the "start" section that was used before Windows 8. Anyone out there have any suggestions?
Forgot to add that when I used the new card reader, something DID pop up. It said it was scanning the card. Then it would say it was finished, and I would click out of it. BUT if it scanned, WHERE would I find the pictures? They were not in my pictures section.

The card appears neither in File Explorer nor Disk Management?

Briefly, pressing the <Windows Logo> key will get you to the Start screen, on which you can search for 'most anything and is an implementation of what used to be called All Programs. <Windows Logo> + x will bring up a Quick Access Menu, which includes a lot of useful things like Control Panel, Command Prompt, etc. You might want to take a quick look at my sticky thread at the top of this forum.

Brand new Acer Aspire VN7-791 i bought late last year.  My camera, bluetooth and SD card reader all don't work. I tried reinstalling drivers and that didn't help, as the camera drivers online are for the new model Intel RealSense camera, the bluetooth seems to be bundled with the wifi drivers and wifi works but bluetooth doesn't, and I just tried my SD card reader which doesn't work either. I'm sending my laptop in for other repairs soon but am worried they'd reject this as a software issue and charge me for it.

I have a Dell Inspiron 546S, Windows Vista Home Premium, 64-bit OS.

Up until today, I have been able to load photos from my SD memory card through the built in card reader on the tower. I've always had to either put it in just right or wiggle it a touch in order for the computer to recognize the card. Today, nothing works. I've wiggled and jiggled, stuck it straight in, pulled it half out, done the hokey pokey, and restarted the computer. Nada, zip, zilch. I finally used the USB cable and that works. It is not a new card, it's one I've been using all along. Nothing has changed in anyway except the the computer suddenly refuses to recognize the card!

Any suggestions?

I forgot to mention, the green light does come on, but I don't get the "new device found" sound. It's not in the device manager or anything else. In fact the device manager says it's working "properly."

Hello All, I'm looking under the hood of my 1st gen Thinkpad X1 Carbon, and I'm trying to identify the PCIe slots.  In particular, the following page states that I should have 2 PCI Express Mini slots:  https://support.lenovo.com/au/en/solutions/pd027202 Now I see the WLAN card and the WWAN card, and my natural assumption is that these are both in PCIe ports, but on closer inspection I see that the WLAN card's slot is only 19mm wide, whereas the WWAN card is the standard 26mm width of normal PCIe Mini ports. This raises some questions:  1. Is the WLAN connected to a proprietary slot, or is this just a different type of PCIe standard?  2. If the WLAN is connected to a proprietary slot, where is my second PCIe slot? Any help would greatly be appreciated. Regards,Adam Zebrowski-az

A:Why is my WLAN card slot narrower than my WWAN card slot (PCIe mini)?

On closer inspection, it looks like my SSD connects to a similar-looking slot as my WLAN card.  I guess this means my WLAN card uses a SATA connection or something? I normally work with desktop PCs, so I'm unfamiliar with a lot of these laptop hardware standards. Regards,Adam Zebrowski-az-

I was hoping to boot from the SD card a live linux, but it appears there may not be a way to do this?  If it's not possible, is there a way to boot from a small portion of the regular drive, then load into the sd card? Basically I don't want to have a USB slot being taken up by a drive and the SD card slot is just really convienent.
