I would like to replace my current Wifi adapter Ralink RT3290 by an newer Intel 7260.HMWWB.R and I've read that the BIOS whitelist may cause problems.
How do I know whether the BIOS of my laptop is using a whitelist?
I bought the laptop with a pre-installed Windows 8 but later downgraded to Windows 7. The model is HP Pavilion 15, serial [Personal Information Removed]
Your help is highly appreciated.
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Hi: Your model does not have a whitelist but check to make sure the wlan card you have now has two antennas connected to it. The Intel 7260 needs two wireless antennas to work correctly.Read other 5 answers
Hey all, Wanted to change my rather problematic Realtek 8723be wireless adapter for a better more modern option and had some questions:i. does my computer have a whitelist on wifi adapters?ii. the manual (http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04511833) gives a list of possible replacements. Could I opt for a newer version instead of the oldish options there? (ie intel 7260)iii. is my computer single antenna or dual antenna? If my computer is single antenna could I use a dual antenna wifi adapter?iv. my current wifi adapter has bluetooth built-in. Do I have to look for an option that incorporates built-in bluetooth?v. anything important i should know?Thank you in advance,NicolasRead other answers

When i was using windows 8 the wifi was good and would never get disrupted. But i updated to windows 8.1 and now when am downloading something the wifi gets disconnected and wont show the network even if the router is on and my phone is still connected to it.I have to toggle the wifi on and off for some 6-7 times and then toggle airplane mode on and off for 3-4 times to get it to discover the network. Is this because of the adapter or driver and my laptop has a ralink wifi adapter. What should i do?Thanks

Hello, I am interested in upgrading the wireless card on my notebook and would like to know if there is a whitelist. Idealy I would like to connect to a my 8011.ac router's 5ghz frequency and add bluetooth capabilities. Looking at the service manual, there seem to be 3 alternatives but none seem to meet the 802.11ac standard. Hi: There is no whitelist, but check to confirm that your notebook has two antennas connected to the wireless card (or that there are two that can be connected). Then you can install any model HMC card you want. I recommend the Intel 7260 dual band AC card with BT.Read other 1 answers
Hi AllDoes any one know whether Lenovo are going to remove this stupid whitelist for Wifi cards on future models? I had to reflash the BIOS on my X220 in order to get my prefferred wifi card to work. My girlfriends Lenovo U310 had a rubbish Broadcom card which kept disconnecting from the Wifi and it was a royal PITA to find a download for new BIOS for that. I work in IT and have been somewhat responsible for purchasing decisions in the past. We had a number of Lenovo Thinkpads in the past and when we needed to upgrade the wifi cards in them it also turned into a farce. (The company is now buying DELLs in future). Surely Lenovo must realise that this whitelist is harming only themselves? I fail to see any good reason why they need to impliment this? I know that this must have come up a million times, but maybe I think that if enough people speak out on this, Lenovo might listen? Also, I really would like one these when they come out and hope that Lenovo won't pull the same stunt!? It took me 10 minutes of my own time to write this post, but each time I've had issues with the whitelist it's taken me considerably more time to dig out a modded BIOS. Each of these times giving masses of frustration that what should be a 3 minute job ends up taking UPWARDS of an hour! Please sort it out Lenovo!!Read other answers
I have been having troble with my Realtek wifi adapter, loosing connectivity every now and then. At times troubleshooting will work by Reseting the adapter and I will have my connection back. Hello and welcome,
The whitelisted wifi models and FRU numbers are in the Hardware Maintenance Manual - Lenovo G70-70, G70-80, Z70-80
As you may know, a card must be a listed model and have a matching Lenovo FRU number to pass the whitelist. Just matching the model is not sufficient.

I too downloaded and installed the latest Realtek network wifi adaptor and immediately my wifi kept dropping. After extensive research with Comcast Xfinity, it was decided that the software upgrade was causing the problem. I downloaded and installed the previous version of this software and that corrected the problem.Obviously, The latest upgrade is flawed and should NOT be used on HP Notebooks. Realtek denies any problem with this driver despite numerous complaints on Windows and Hp forums with people having the very same problem.Realtek and HP need to get together to correct this problem and do a better job with quality assurance before releasing upgrades that evidently do more harm than help. They run you around in circles with all sorts of "fixes" assuming it could not be the software. Apologies if this has been addressed before but my problem is pretty specific and I couldn't find any threads about it. For a quick backgound, my OS is Windows 10 (was Windows 8 prior) and my network adapter is an Intel Centrino N-2230. I have a Lenovo Y500 laptop and my internet has been having issues. For background, it was working fine until sometime early this year. I got an ethernet cable and mainly relied on that. Whenever I would unplug my ethernet cord, most of the time my internet wouldn't work - the open networks availble shown would just be empty even though all my other devices connected to the internet just fine. I ignored this and continued because I mainly only used it with ethernet anyways, and if I really needed to I could disable and reenable my network adapter to get the internet working (for like 30 seconds before it would often die again). I'm back home from college now however, and I need a consistent internet. The problem I face now is that when my laptop isn't plugged in, I can't seem to use internet at all (I can do the disable and re-enable technique but it works for like 5 seconds before it stops working again). When my laptop is plugged in, it stays connected to the internet consistently, but the quality of the connection is really inconsistent. For games that I play, every 10 minutes I usually have around 3-4 instances where the ping goes from 20 to like 1000 for 10-15 seconds, sometimes even completely disconectin... Read more

Dear HP Support, i am the happy owner of an HP 6710b (year 2007/2008 model) notebook.Of course now it is a little bit dated. So i decided to upgrade my wifi card (intel) to a new Intel wifi card which supports the 802.11n standard. Unfortunately i discovered that HP uses BIOS based wifi card whitelists to prohibit the user to upgrade the wifi card. When i bought the notebook HP never mentioned it. HP advertised that the notebook has a mini pci express slot. Therefore i concluded that every mini pcie standards compatible wifi card would work. My Questions: 1. Why do you use bios whitelists ?2. How will you fix this ?3. When will you fix this? 4. Which models are using a whitelist? Does HP sell any Notebook/netbook without a bios whitelist? Thank you.
Hi,The first 3 questions are for HP guys but I'm not one..HP provide service manuals for its products and you may find all compatible components in there. The whitelist contains all the part numbers from the service guide so when you want to upgrade a laptop, find the component in the service guide or choose the best you can get if more components are available..The guide for your laptop: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/CoreRedirect.jsp?redirectReason=DocIndexPDF&prodSer...There is an Intel 802.11a/b/g/n compatible wireless card. The part number is: ?441086-001?(for the US etc, see the manual for the right pn))I think it's a WiFi Link 4965AGN. The part number is important because the same WiFi Link 4965AGN for the UK or other European/Asia countries will be probably different (use different wifi regulations than the US).This one should work:http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Mini-PCIe-802-11-A-B-G-N-WLAN-4965AGN-New-441086-001-/330611825906?pt=PCC...?Read other 9 answers

I have an issue regarding an adapter of Microsoft WiFi miniport adapter.
Previously on my windows 7 Microsoft WiFi miniport adapter was installed when i started a hostednetwork(or a hotspot) through cmd.
But as i upgraded to windows 10(Presently I have windows 10 Pro..Edition 1511..Os Build 10586.420 installed in my pc) When Type following commands(without quotes) in cmd(as an admin)
"netsh wlan show drivers"
"Hostednetwork Supported: Yes"
That means I can Create a hotspot.
But When I check in my network connections window(in Control Panel) it shows a driver named as "Local Area Connection2".
Although hotspot is created, it never shares internet of my WiFi network(As I have network Connection by means of WiFi using Tp-Link USB Wireless adapter) I am unable to share my internet connection thorugh WiFi.
But As I said before, in windows 7 it shared internet connection through WiFi.
Also When i had checked before in network connections it showed a Microsoft Virtual Wireless Network connection and driver installed is Microsoft WiFi miniport adapter.
So I have a Question as "Does Microsoft WiFi miniport adapter is available for windows 10?"
And If yes there send me a link for downloading it.
And if not try helping me to fix it out.
Waiting for a Reply.

Its setup cannot complete because it is stuck eternally at "detecting adapter"
I sought online but it's only people reporting the problem and NOBODY giving a solution. pleas pleeeaaaase somebody help.
Power down PC...while it off remove USB wifi adapter....power on PC. When PC has finished booting up, search in the uninstall programs list for any software related Netgear and uninstall it. Reboot and start the process again.
According to the system requirements for that device, it does not support windows 10, which may be you issue.
I registered to forums to get help to solve wireless adapter issue I am having.
I have been looking for help in Lenovo forums and AV provider: problem is still on.
I changed AV software from Symantec to F-Secure. I uninstalled Symantec software and installed F-Secure software. Laptop is Lenovo T520.
First I recognized that ping commands caused Windows to crash. Then I uninstalled some VPN softwares and ping started to work. Operation did something to wireless and LAN connections, they did not work anymore.
LAN started to work by removing LAN drivers from device manager and reboot. After reboot Windows reinstalled LAN drivers and LAN was ok.
Wireless is a pain in there. I have tried almost everything. All Lenovo provided network softwares and power management tools are uninstalled and reinstalled together with wireless drivers. Wireless driver is not recognized by Windows.
None of automatic repairs or wifi uninstallation operations have corrected problem.
I collected some logs which might help, but now I do not know how to proceed. Windows reinstallation is something which I do not want to do.

Hi, My laptop has a very weak wifi detection. Only when the wifi signal is very strong can it detect the wifi. I tried contacting HP regarding the same. They said it could be a loose connection with the wifi antenna. I have been waiting for the custumer service in my area to contact me(like HP promised!!!) for quite a long time now . Now I am in urgent need to get this fixed. I was wondering if an external wifi adapter would solve this issue. Mine is a Windows 10 laptop. Model no: ab030tx (pavilion). I just bought a brand new Asus K52F and when the laptop goes into sleep mode the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter & WiFi Miniport Adapter #2" fail. When i turn the computer back on i have trouble connecting to the internet, and the devices have error (code 43). I can still connect to the internet though. I have re-downloaded the drivers, rolled them back, updated them, everything but it hasn't worked. Any help would be sweet.
Also can anyone tell me what the white light up button next to the power button does??
The virtual wifi mini port adaptor is used as a virtual wifi device so you can turn your machine into a wireless AP "access point" either with commands or the connectify software. The adaptor sometimes activates itself and causes problems, even when your not using it as an access point.
It should fix the problem if you go into device manager, go to "view" top of page, then choose "show hidden devices" which should allow you to see the mini port, disable the virtual mini port adaptor and that should fix the problem.
That little button next to the power button is a reset button, it's like restarting but a little different.
I bought the laptop with Win 8.1 installed. I was able to use Connectify software to tether internet connection from the ethernet to my phone through WiFi. After upgrading to Windows 10, trying to start a hotspot with the Connectify software throws the error "Your Wi-Fi adapter does not support AP mode. Please try updating the drivers for your Wi-Fi adapter". Trying to start a hotspot through command prompt using 'netsh wlan.....' throws the error "The hosted network couldn't be started. So, there are many articles out there that will show you how to use cmd prompt to create a wifi hotspot (eg: this article Internet Connection Sharing - Create WiFi HotSpot)
However, is there anyway to do this with TWO separate wifi adapters? That is, use one adapter to connect to your router and the other to act as the router? Some articles seem to indicate this is the ideal setup but no one seems to specify how to control which wifi adapter is used to create the wifi hostpot in command prompt.
Thanks for any help.
If I can get the basics to work, the next step is to try to integrate a VPN so that I can basically use my PC as a VPN router (but with no physical ethernet connection).
It is no different than bridging an Ethernet and Wifi adapter.Read other 1 answers
Actually my wifi adapter can catch all other wifi signal except my wifi router.
There are several resons.1. The wifi signal might be too weak at the point where the computer is.2. Other device radiation/signals might be blocking it.3. Your router signal might be hodden (check EWS of router).4. Signal broadcasting might have been turned off on router. Since other signals are found on the computer, there shouldnt be a issue with your couputer.Read other 1 answers

Everyone's had the problem of wanting to disable the wifi miniport, or enable it to share wifi.
I have a different problem. I would like to change which wireless device the wifi miniport uses, as the external USB wireless adapter I was using died. I cannot see the wifi miniport adapter without that device attached, it seems. I don't even know if the wifi adapter even as options to select which wireless card to use even if I could get it to appear.
Is there a way to do this without having to resort to reinstalling Windows 7?
I am fairly familiar with netsh. No command line option seems to be available to switch network adapters for the wifi miniport.
It also appears that it will simply not switch to the only wireless network adapter detected, and I know it will host a virtual wifi network, I've done ICS/AdHoc before.
I tried the solution in this link: How to change default Microsoft Virtual WiFi miniport adapter?
This did not work.

has that resoved the issue or not
it maybe the signal is broadcasting on channel 12/13
can you connect the pc directly to the router with a cable and then
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file to the faulty PC and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.
If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply
enter you details
Download this file "DOWNLOAD WI-FI INSPECTOR Vx.xx "
( the site now appears to allow webbased emails like gmail, hotmail, outlook and yahoo now )
There is also a xirrus gadget, But that does not have all the fuctionality "DOWNLOAD GADGET Vx.xx

Hello all. I have a MSI GX630 notebook and though it has had many problems I now face a bigger one. My adapter was stolen and so I can't use it at all. The original adapter that was sent out with my notebook was a LITEON PA-1121-04. That is 19V and 6.3A like this one:
My question is where can I find a well known and trusted website to order such an adapter from? Or is the website in the link above, pchub.com, a trusted enough place to order from? I am currently in Jamaica.
I am not sure this is where this should be but it's under mobile computing so I hope I'm right in posting here.
That adapter should work fine... As far as PCHUB being good, or trustworthy, who knows. Have you been "burned" buying online before?
I am having trouble with my Samsung PX2370 monitor. I can't seem to find any replacement power cords
for this Monitor. Here is a picture of the back of the monitor. It looks like this AC adapter is unique
and I probably won't find a cheap universal one on Ebay.
Looks like the model # of the Power Supply is a Samsung AD-3612S or BN44-00139C.
I did find this place, but it was the only online store I could see that had the product.
