I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is that to say that you have no active antivirus or anti-malware?
You cannot afford that. Please add a free antivirus (Avast/Avira) or a paid suite (Kaspersky/ESET/Bitdefender..)
ZAM is great! If it's premium, why not set it to realtime scanner as of now.
For browser safety, you can add Avira Browser Safety or Bitdefender TrafficLight.
Why do you have multiple RegCleaners and RegDefrags? You basically don't even need them. CCleaner is enough, or have a multi-functional Glary utilities.
For safety, backing up is important and a 'better safe than sorry' step. You can have Macrium reflect free or Easus tools.
Rest is good!
Keep checking for OS updates from time to time.

I am looking for a new laptop. I currently have a X121e and recall it being extremely easy to configure on Lenovo's site. So I decided to look at the X270. However, having had great difficulty even starting to configure it (apparently, Lenovo does not favour Firefox any longer), I'm currently having trouble understanding the choices. The first is the choice between PCIe and SATA PointingDevice. Following some discussion, I gather this has nothing to do with any kind of pointing device, but affects my HDD/SSD choices. OK, so let's see what the PCIe choices give me. I get 5 'first hard drive' options. (Nothing I do gets me a 'second hard drive' option, so not sure about this. Or rather, I almost understand this now I've read the platform specification, the user manual, the hardware maintenance manual and various posts on Reddit. Lenovo do like to make buying a challenge!) Now, however, I've reached the end of my google-fu. Intel 256 GB Solid State Drive OPAL2.0 PCIe-NVMe256 GB Solid State Drive PCIe-NVMe OPAL2.0 - CapableIntel 512 GB Solid State Drive OPAL2.0 PCIe-NVMe512 GB Solid State Drive, PCIe-NVMe OPAL2.01 TB Solid State Drive OPAL2.0 PCIe-NVMeI understand the difference beween 1/2 and 3/4 and 5 is obviously size. Had a major malfunction with my laptop over the weekend and had to replace the harddrive.. lost a few things but I had backups on an external hdd thankfully. One thing I noticed during the whole situation was that my system restore points had been deleted somehow, I researched and found that Defraggler deletes them sometimes, but who knows it could have been something else.

I'm looking for a good defrag program that won't do that.. I noticed Auslogics Disk Defrag in the stickied topics up top but just wanted to ask and make sure it doesn't do anything like that. Also I want a really good backup program. I was using the default backup thing on Vista (set to backup once a week) but when I check my external hdd, there are backups from last year hogging up space..

If anyone has any advice I'd appreciate it

A:Looking for 2 solid programs

Welcome
I use Auslogics and am 100% happy with its performance. You can analyze your HD first to see if a defrag is necessary. Its does a better job than the Vista program included as defrag with the OS.
If you want awesome free software to back up, I use Macrium Relfect, it is awesome

Does anyone in here still use SE v12 or at least HAVE used it and might be able to offer up some assitance with it.
I have a 3ghz/1gb/matrox parhelia128 computer that runs it great for the most part, whenever i go to rotate the 3d model, after say 20 seconds of rotating it sorta just freezes for a second or 4
sometimes for longer.
our support for SE is nonexistant and the phone service is giving me the run around, so getting an update is just about short of impossible. how is v16?

Is it backward compatible? If i use v12 to make something, and have someone using 16 open it, would it cause problems for the document?

A:Solid Edge V12

I'm sorry I can't help you with your problem, but I found this thread through Google, and I'd like to ask a question about a problem of my own, which is a bit similar to yours...
I just started at Helsinki University of Technology and I have a machine design course where we use Solid Edge v15... The university has an academic license for it and they are giving it for the students to borrow home so they don't have to use campus computers to do their works for that course. I borrowed it, of course, but it says it won't install, cause the program is for win2000 or XP only... I have windows 98...
Does anyone know what is the latest version of SE that supports windows 98?
And if so, I repeat the question of the previous poster: Does v15 have backward compatibility? We're not using very advanced features, so I think I might be able to do my work with an older version...

One of this days i will buy my first solid state drive.
So i need an expert advice, especially from someone who already has ssd.
First : Most of all worries me the compatibility issue with my GA-X38-DS4 motherboard,i don't want to throw the money for nothing. And i didn't found anything in the web about this.
--------------------------------------------
Second: IF IS NOT THERE ANY COMPATIBILITY ISSUE!! Then....Which one is better, faster?
A) Corsair Force Series F80A - solid state drive - 80 GB - SATA-300
B) OCZ Agility 2 Series - Solid state drive - 80 GB - internal - 2.5" - SATA-300
C) OCZ Vertex 2 Series - Solid state drive - 80 GB - internal - 2.5" - SATA-300

A:My first solid state.

As long as you have SATA ports on your motherboard, SSD drives will work.

Faster is often a result of which benchmark you used. The biggest bang for the buck with any SSD is it's 0.1ms access times to files anywhere on the drive. You will get that from any of the SSD's that you pick. Your read/write speeds may be marginally better on one drive versus another, but unless you are continously reading and writing large files...it probably won't be noticeable in day-to-day computer use.

Personally, I think OCZ has a great reputation and the Vertex 2 line has been solid. I would pick that one if it were me.

A:How to fix a solid red on your wifi

First step would be to contact your ISP's (Internet Service Provider's) Tech Support to make sure:

1) They don't have a problem with their service,
and
2) They can see your router from their end.

Ive been looking at PC parts for about a year now, so I know at this point about which parts (mostly CPUS and GPUS) are which and when the next gens come out (like how piledriver comes next month presumeably)
But I cant justify $650 without being rather certain of myself.
so here is the parts list:
Rosewill challenger U3
Crucial 8 GB DDR3 1600 Dual channel 240 pin
FX-8120
Cooler Master hyper 212 EVO
Samsung Spinpoint F4 7200 RPM 320 GB (its cheap right now, althought seagate=meh hopefully I wont have bad luck)
Sapphire 2GB 7850 100355L
Rosewill green series 630W RG630-S12 (will update if/when I crossfire later on)
MSI 970A-G46 (chipset 970, has x16 and x8 in xfire mode)
some cheap wireless thing already got.

I already have all peripherals.
total price is $665 with shipping.

so yea, thats about it.

A:Solid build?

Looks good, but on a bit of a prejudiced note, you may want to look at getting a different power supply, since Rosewill don't have the greatest track record when it comes to PSUs. Also that case is a nightmare to try get clean, so If you don't want the amazon jungle inside your case I highly suggest you take a look at some of Antec or Coolermaster's budget cases.
apart from that, the rest looks good to me.

this is a very strange problem and I've actually spent 5+ years doing tech support for networks, ISP's, webservers etc. etc..

Anyways.. Windows XP SP2. I am now using a wireless router for my PS3. but it's a hard connection from Cable Modem to router to PC. If I open up IE I usually get webpages w/o a problem.. here's the problem

If I have one window or tab w/ a webpage open.. I cannot open another and get a page. Also If I'm running OE I cannot get the url page to open in IE or even another program (firefox, opera etc..). I can ping when this happens. the error is the standard page cannot be displayed. I have already removed and reinstalled IE7. downgraded to IE6 applied all security patches. I have turned off firewalls, virus programs etc.. etc..

In addition Media Player11 doesn't allow me to share my media. I was attempted to share files w/ my PS3 but media player just sat and sat and sat. Not responding type issue. I'm completely virus free and it seems browsing and the Media Player sharring problem are my only issues...

I think.. but I want opinions that my issue could be Windows validation issues. I build my PC's at shows. the version I'm using was never activated. Probably patched it so I could receive Windows updates. Now my issues are all w/ (IE, OE, and WMP..) thoughts???

I don't feel like starting from wiping this clean and starting fresh.. to much time.

We're starting a new Distributor biz that sells to retailers. We're in the process of setting up our home office and would like to start with a good solid platform. I'm not a computer geek and need to avoid constant fixes/virus and spyware scans/etc. I certainly would consider switching OS or going with MAC or whatever, to avoid what seems to be a constant steam of nagging issues. Currently I have XP, Outlook, IE with a likelihood that we'll be using QuickBooks and Customer Manager to manage our biz. My kids are constantly using the computer with AOL IM, Internet games, etc.

Would love your thoughts on best OS/hardware to give us a good solid platform, and suggestions on how to systematically maintain it to avoid problems before they happen. Should we set up a separate CPU just for the biz (no kids allowed)?

A:Solved: Solid OS/HW/etc. for small biz?

First thing is have a separate computer for the kids and there games, the computer for the business should be for business only. The next thing is you want to do is contact the Better Business and find out about Computer Advisors so you can have the correct computer setup with the security and protection that you need. There is nothing worse than finding out all of everything has been hacked on you and that is bad.

Hey All,

I am building a computer in the next week that the customer wants a SSD 2.5" drive. I've never built a PC with an SSD in it. Couple of questions

Will the standard 2.5" drive bay in a case hold the drive alright?

Will the drive be susceptible to electro shock and data loss in a power failure or hard reset?

Does the SSD need to be insulated in the case any particular way?

Does the SSD need specific proprietary power or SATA cables to interface with a modern motherboard?

Thanks

A:Solid State Drive

Connections and Size will very on which drive you get, but traditionally it will fit in a 2.5 bay and can support a sata connection. Nothing extra is needed. It shouldn't be any more susceptible to data loss during power failures then normal drives (of course like normal drives, you may lose data if you are writting to it during said power loss).

It seems like ever since WinXP and probably before that, some windows that open creep under the taskbar. So when this happens, I have to move my taskbar in order to close the window. Yeah I know there's other ways to close this window without moving the taskbar, but another more elegant way to avoid this problem is make the taskbar solid so the window can't creep under the it.

Does anyone know what I have to do to avoid this annoyance?

This is a computer a friend gave him years ago, and had erased the hard drive. We re-installed windows on it, and it has been doing fine for years.

It's a Dell Dimension 4400, windows XP home.
It has never been hooked up to internet, so no viruses.
He plays little kid games only. (Real little kid; ZOO Tycoon is the most sophisticated.)
NO new software has been added for about almost a year.
No new hardwrae added.
It has adequate ventilation.
I have reinstalled all the drivers (keyboard, mouse and CD Rom)
Device Manager tells me everything is groovy.
There are no peripherals installed.

Some days, the thing works fine, and he can play for a couple hours.
Some days we turn the thing on and it freezes while loading!
It just freezes up at random times.
Also, the CD Drive won't allow me to write on it anymore! It will read the CD, but I can't copy files to it.
I checked the internet on my computer, but couldn't find a matching CD drive update to try to install. (doesn't mean it doesn't exist, just that I can't find it!)

When it "Freezes", I can't pull up the cntr/alt/del trick, all we can do is hit the power button. Yes, the NUM Lock is ON and doesn't go off. If we try to turn it on again, even after 5 minutes, it simply WON'T even turn o... Read more

I would strongly suspect hardware at this stage, rather than software.

In reality it could be anything from the PSU (Power Supply Unit) to RAM or motherboard.

That you get no error messages is salient, in that hardware is more likely than software as the culprit.

I haven't bought a router in a year or two. I have several WRT54GL's in use as subnet routers and a few cheap TPLinks I'm using to extend a few subnets. My "gateway" is an RT-N66U that I've been happy with.

However, my neighbor needs to replace his old wrt router in which the DHCP server is malfunctioning. While we're at it, I'll be adding a router to extend his signal(we'll be connecting the two via cat6 rather than wireless).

So, I'm perusing amazon ratings now, but thought it wisdom to find out what routers some of y'all have used & recommend as far as:

Stability & quality
Use of bandwidth
Cost, accounting for above factors.

He doesn't game or download huge files, so it doesn't need to be some super powerful fast router. It doesn't even have to be dual band. He's buying 2, so the cost/quality ratio should be reasonable.

Thanks for any recommendations.

A:Solid Router Recomendation

Hi

Just comment.

For router brand & model, it is best to check as each ISP preference.
That is to say, do understand what are the requirements needed for broadband connection.
ISP may test on certain (few) brand on routers.
This is to avoid any interruption as ISP are not liable for intermittent connection and wireless issue due to router.
As they are not liable for router issue, which you may have to deal with it yourself. (Or seek help)
Router do able to used for 3 years or more, without any problem, ex mine router.

Before you commit to sign up to an ISP, do research by yourself, as each user has it own devices.
Likewise, each user will give you a different answer to your question points.
So it is better to check on those already sign up to ISP(s) do compare and most important is reliable & stable connection.

Quote:
My "gateway" is an RT-N66U that I've been happy with.

You can continue to use first, before commit yourself to a new router which may work or not.

I have been out of the PC building world for a year or so now, just wondering what the newest word about SSD drives are. A year or so ago I remember they were not really up to spec, they had a limited number of read/write cycles and fialed pretty commonly. Is that still true, or have vast improvements been made?

Looking at this drive
http://www.frys.com/product/6799875?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
and throwing it into a desktop, will that mount alright? Any issues about connectors? I think it still uses the same Sata and power cables correct?

A:Solid State Drives

It still uses the same sata and power connects. You would need a drive bay adapter unless you want to wire tie it somewhere.

Hello there everyone, (first post yay!)

About a month ago my solid state hard drive suddenly failed after 2 years of use, fortunately it was still under warranty so I was able to get a replacement, at the time I figured it just had a fault and eventually died. It's worth noting that prior to it bricking completely some applications were running slow and windows was starting to hang.

So I've had my new SSD, (same brand, model etc.) for a month now and it's just died, and again the same symptoms occurred, windows hanging and applications slowing down. I attempted to run disk checks and other such programs but they all failed. I don't believe I've done anything to break it so I'm here. What could cause this to happen?

The SSD is a G.Skill Falcon II 128GB, I've attached my dxdiag if that can provide any other information to assist in anything.

If theres anything else I can add let me know, I look forward to any insight.

A:Solid State died... Again.

Using "tools" intended for mechanical drives is not wise for SSD's.

What do you use the drive for? Have you turned off defrag and other mechanical drive maintenance tools?

Hello,
Actually I saw something named solid keylogger when my antivirus software was running a scan but it didn't detect it because most antivirus softwares don't detect keyloggers(I think so). Anyways I don't remember the exact location of that keylogger but its name is "SOLID KEYLOGGER" exactly. So if any malware specialists out there know about this keylogger please assist me in removing this keylogger. Thanks in advance.
And also please ask me if you want anymore details about this issue.

Sup,

This might take some explaining - I have a 32GB SSD as my C:\windows drive and a 1.2TB normal disk with all my other stuff on it. I have not got any programs that allow you to choose the install location installed on the SSD, however programs such as Photoshop, Minecraft & Office 365 will only install to C: I have migrated my Users folder to the other volume which freed up around 4 GB of space - however having installed Photoshop I now have about 80KB free this is an annoyance to live with. I have done everything else to free up space under the sun.

So, my question is, what happens if I change the drive letter of the solid state to D: or something like that, & change the other disk with about 900 GB free to C: so, windows will be installed under d:\windows on the SSD. Then I could isntall photoshop & the like to the bigger drive.

Will this work? Not re-installing is desirable, but if needs be....

Thanks in advance,

Jon.

A:Solid State Trouble

The only way to install Win7 to a drive other than C is to run its installer from C to install to another drive, which locks out the C drive letter from use. This is neither desirable or correct.

If you have 32gb SSD then it's actually a chip on an MSATA hard drive intended to provide paging cache to speed up the drive. While we've helped users install to the chip at their request, it is absurdly small and requires the kind of gymnastics you're grappling with. If you'd like to install WIn7 as intended here are the steps: Install Windows on MSATA (SSD) Drive - Windows 7 Help Forums
Install Windows on System with MSATA and ISRT - Windows 7 Help Forums

Since no one is thrilled with the performance on an MSATA compared to an SSD, a solution is to buy a larger SSD which are coming down in price to around $50 per 120gb now. Photoshop for example needs to be on the SSD to benefit from its speed. Best deals of the day

This is either an issue with formatting a new Solid State Drive or something related cloning data and setting up windows 7 on the SSD. The plan was to run the OS off the SSD.

First, I now know I forgot to format the SSD before cloning...but it think it may have happened automatically because the clone process seems to have worked...sort of. The bad...it took up 2/3's of a 250GB SSD...not good. So I thought why not start over, delete everything on the SSD, format it and try a clean install from my windows 7 upgrade disc. Did that and it work better...just a small amount of the SSD was used....but...

But now, with just the SSD plugged in, am getting an error at boot up..."No boot manager" and boot fails. Plug the original HD drive back in and boot is fine and appears to be running off the SSD mostly...quiet and fast. But the old hard drive does tick away now and then. So, I'm thinking this is not how it should be and not as efficient as it should be. This is why I bought the SSD...to boot faster, play games and most common aps off the SSD...faster. Where did I miss the boat...?

Is boot manager something I can add? I tried to boot via the upgrade disc and do a repair, but it fails saying "Partition for windows missing"...which may be a formatting issue too. I am guessing the partition houses the boot manager...?? How can I fix. I get Microsoft security error during repair...

My Solid State Drive says at the Disk Management Screen:

232.88 GB NTFS

I would format the SSD then do step by step what you did the first time.

edit: also take a look through the Tutorials section. I'm sure there's several concerning SSDs and their various configuration options.

I was wondering if someone would know why my computer has started to freeze solid when I shut it down. I am not doing anything different than what I have always done, but now when I shut it down it freezes at the moment that it says: "Windows is shutting down" and it stays stuck in there. The power botton doesn't work. The only way to completely shut it down is to cut off the power. My computer is only three months old, and I don't think it should be doing that. Any ideas on what I should do? By the way I have run Spybot and Ad-Aware 6, and I found no spyware. Here's some info on computer and thank you in advance.

Hi,

I was wondering, with 400 Dolars to spend on HDs, which one do i choose?
I will never use more than 500 GB, which i think is too much.
And i wanted a fast drive, like an SSD.
But i heard that SSDs have a short-life, and they're speed are decreased according to its age.

So, what would be better?
Buy 4x 250 GB 7200 RPM HDs and make Raid 4

Or 1x 128 SSD and a 500 GB for storage

A:Solid State Drive

Better that you should read these articles first:

A *really really really* good article about SSDs - very long and intensive.

Hi all,
Just a quick question - this isnt important etc but

I have an old netbook which I use in my place of work (at lunch times lol) to code my website (Boeing 787 Register - Welcome) I have obtained through my own upgrades at home etc a solid state 120gb Corsair Force.

The machine is running windows 7 64 bit on a 320gb hdd, the used space with all the applications I use and the website testing area is less than 50gb.

My thoughts are to - speed up the netbook and give it bettter battery life by cloning the disk from the current spinning disk to the ssd, and this gives me a good 320gb disk to use as an archive drive.

or should i not bother?

I did and it worked out great!

When I install Solid Edge everything goes find but in the end Removing temporary files used just keeps loading... I ended setup process and Solid Edge works fine, but now if I try to install any other appliaction its says: Another install process is paused, and it then it gives me option to remove solid edge or close setup of new application. I have tried running in vista sp1 mode, as administrator, but still the same, so is there any way to somehow end the install.

Thanks

EDIT: Nevermind, I'm gona roll back to vista, too many problems.

A:Problem with Solid Edge

If you kill the process "PrinterInstaller.exe" the installation will continue and you will be able to use Solid Edge. The problem is that you can't install any MP on top of this installation.

Hello All,

I am new to this forum and i hope i posted my question in the correct section.

I am having issue setting up 2 different solid color backgrounds on a dual monitors setup. I can do the different background pictures on different monitor but not solid color. Does anyone know how to configure two different colored background on dual monitor?

Thank you

A:Have 2 Different Solid Colored Backgrounds

Hi there,

It's not possible to set the background colour different for each monitor. But you can tweak the system.

Make a 'picture' in Paint with the appropriate colour and save it. Then make that the background picture for your screen and select the option to fill the picture to the screen. Do this for both screens.

I've disabled Themes and I've "adjusted for best performance" in advanced sys properties but when I alt+tab or hover my mouse over a taskbar icon I get little pictures.

How do I cut out all the junk so its as barebones as possible?

W8 generally seems faster but still see things that look bloated and take up system resources.

Thx.
