Not sure what it is - work computer, also affecting software needed for work !!

Q: Not sure what it is - work computer, also affecting software needed for work !!

I'm not sure what is going on with this computer.  It's running slowly and doing things that are not normal for it.  For example, the software I use for work is giving me login errors, I am gettting an error with Outlook saying my mailbox has been temporarily moved.  Internet Explorer is running slowly.  Chrome has crashed several times.  My computer restarted itself.  Etc, etc.
I ran Malwarebytes and it didn't find anything, so I figured someone with a lot more knowledge than me should probably look it over before I go too far.  One thing that may be of note: its a 143GB hard drive with 19.5GB of free space.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give !!!   : )
PS I have tried to upload the addition.txt file, but I cannot tell if it uploaded ?  I tried twice, so if its uploaded twice, I'm sorry !

I want to work from home.
What I need is to be able to use a whiteboard to communicate with clients (real time) as well as a real time audio connection so that I can talk as well as use diagrams to provide solutions. On top of that I need to have an e-commerce package of some sort so that I can bill out my services on a minute basis and get an immediate credit card payment.
Bandwidth may be an issue.
Can anyone recommend a package or a wis-bang developer who wants to take on such a project.

A:What is software needed for perfect audio and video work?

It is most probably a problem with the file on the website. There are no softwares to open files of any kind. Images are automatically loaded on browsers.

Hi I'm Zac, (I'll just tell you how this all went)
Well I have a computer which runs on XP. About 3 months ago the power supply went out in it, and I bought a new computer. Well last week I picked up a power supply and replaced the old with the new. It works again! But where I need help is here. It says:
Now I'm wanting to save the files I had on it before.
*So my question is, "If I put in the system disk will it erase all my files or is it just going to help it restart and work properly again?"

[email protected] for replies

I need deffinate anwsers for I have files on the computer that are vital and irreplacable and maybes just won't cut it.

Thank You,

A:Help Is Needed, Getting My Computer To Work Once Again.

First of all . . if the files were important they should have been backed up.

A couple of ways to salvage the files:

You can take the hard drive out of the old machine and temporarily attach it to the secondary ide channel ( the one with the cd drive ) long enough to copy the files over.

You can buy a USB hard drive enclosure, put the drive in that and connect it to the new pc via usb cable to salvage the files.

Good luck . .

A:Urgent help needed for work computer infected!!...First Log...

Hi there,my name is Marius and I will assist you with your malware related problems. Before we move on, please read the following points carefully. First, read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding. Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one. If you have any problems while following my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem. Do not run any other scans without instruction or add/remove software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me. Post all logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. If you can not post all logfiles in one reply, feel free to use more posts. If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed. Stay with me. I will give you some advice about prevention after the cleanup process. Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean. My first language is not english. So please do not use slang or idioms. It could be hard for me to read. Thanks for your understanding.    Fix with FRST (Recovery Environment)Open notepad (Start =>All Programs => Accessories => Notepad). Please copy the entire contents of the code box below.

I have dyscalculia but I have always wanted to be good at maths, especially increase my working memory and problem solving skills. However I also have serious problems with motivation as I find maths quite scary. I am looking for a piece of software that, each time I try to manually open a game or document on my computer, will prevent me from doing so until I can complete a mathematical problem, with adjustable difficulty. I would also like to be able to configure what types of questions I'll be given so that I can choose the types of problems I have studied for, and not the ones I won't have a clue about.

I seriously doubt that such a piece of software exists and I imagine the only way to make it happen is to write it myself. Problem: I find programming incomprehensible. Even having the basics of C++ taught to me in the most dumbed down way, and persisting for many nights over many weeks, I was making no progress at all. I still feel no wiser about what programming even is.

Does anybody know how to help me? If what I'm looking for doesn't exist, is there something like it?

A:Looking for software that forces me to work for my computer access

I would bet there are programs such as what you want. If you think about it, what you're looking for is basically the same thing as a video game - solve a problem or take a specific action and you advance to the next level. As much as computers are used in schools now, I suspect there are many such programs to teach math (and other things) to kids.

I think my computer is infected: it is very slow when using the internet when it was pretty quick, also tried to use MBAM but it gets shut down immediately (same for rKill and TDSS etc). I am running Norton security and have tried shutting it down whilst running the anti malware programs but this made no difference.
Any advice?

Hello! I am having a problem with some websites at my house. There are certain websites I cannot access on any of the computers we have at home, but I can access them on my Nintendo DS. A few of the sites are:

Occasionally questionablecontent.net can be accessed from a computer at home, but most of the time it cannot. None of the other websites ever work on a computer at home.

So originally I thought it was some virus that happened to be picked up on all 3 desktop computers and the laptop, and I have run multiple virus scans with AVG over the last several months to no avail. Some things were found, and removed, but the problem was not solved. I have turned off the Windows Firewall to see if I could access any of the sites at home, and that did not work either. One day at school I tried accessing the above websites on my laptop, and they worked without a problem. I also went a friend's house for a LAN 2 weeks ago, and I could access the websites on my desktop computer. It made me thing that maybe it was something with the Netgear router we are using at home. The fact that I can access the sites on my DS though makes me think that is not the problem. Just in case, I went to the router settings to see if somehow any of those sites got set to be blocked, but there is nothing on the blocked sites list for the router.

I am at a loss as to what the problem could be since they work on the DS at home... Read more

What on EARTH process is always running in the background to make my hard drive chatter away for literally nearly 3-5 minutes after a bootup...and we're talking with a FRESH install!....Some something is running a LOT in the background but task manager is absolutely worthless in pointing out what is going on...It even gets to the point where , after having the Edge browser opened and perusing the internet for awhile, things get so bogged down, and windows is too stupid to tell me exactly WHY it's bogged down, things get to where even a mouse click is delayed upwards of 10 seconds! lol. Sometimes things completely freeze and pushing the reset button is the only way out...I've gone as far as downloading Avasts 'emergency startup' disc and booting from it , thinking there might be a virus, but it found nothing (although I'm wondering if it's loading a small portion of windows, which if it is, and a virus or malware is in that small portion, booting to the disc and running the anti-virus software is pointless...maybe I should try it with a linux based emergency disc?) ....

Whenever I try to make a call on the desktop version of skype, the program crashes. Whenever I try to open HP support assistant, the program crashes. When i am using the metro app version of skype I get a weird artifacting type problem on any of the buttons. I have this same problem in internet explorer and on Netflix. Netflix will not play on Chrome. It will play on IE, but with the button artifacting problems. My computer will not pair via bluetooth with my phone. What would be your recommended course of action? I've tried to get another dive and install windows onto it and connect the faulty drive. When the new xp install booted up it said that the drive was not formated and asked me if i wanted to forrmat.

I also tryied to do a sceond install of windows on the drive and it will not allow me to do that.

I am trying to recover data off the old drive and cannot just format. Any work around would be very appricated.

A:Unformated drive Work around needed.

Sounds like when you added the old drive, it tried to boot to it. Make certain the bios is calling for the correct drive in boot order which should be drive 0 or 1 depending on where the drive controllers start their numbering.

I recently switched to Firefox and I'm having a bit of a problem. I've posted the question on the FireFox forum, but you know how difficult it is to get an answer over there, so I thought I might ask here as well.

I have been trying for a few days to add an RSS feed for new, updated or featured Firefox addons by clicking on the live feed button on the adddons page. It launches my Yahoo page (which is my default RSS feed target) but a window pops up "There were some problems while loading your page."

I go to other sites and add RSS feeds to my Yahoo page with no trouble, so I'm assuming the problem is with the links or the RSS setup on the addons page.

Will someone please go to the Firefox addon site (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/) and see if they also have a problem with this function.

If not, can you think of something I may be doing wrong?

My son has just received HL2 collector edition dvd rom for his birthday, but we cannot get it working at all. Everytime we try to start steam we get the error:

Steam.exe (main exception): Win32 StructuredException at 01B58BE1. Attempt to read from virtual address 88 without appropriate access rights.

Anyone know what this is all about and can you help us to get the game working please. We have been searching the internet for a couple of days and tried our best to get it going but we are having no luck.

Heres what I tried so far:

I uninstalled the dvd version of steam and downloaded steam direct from steam website..........still got the same error message.

I deleted the clientregistry.blob file. I have uninstalled and reinstalled about 6 times.

I cant get past the update. It just spits out the error (I dont understand what it means anyway so if someone could possibly enlighten me I would appreciate it)

Any help please? Thank You

My son purchased this computer in early April 2011 to use mostly for gaming and Scratch. It was without a box, just the unit and keyboard. Good price, but maybe you get what you pay for...

Looking more closely at the computer's operating software configuration and dates of installation, I suspect that the computer has been "worked on" but not fixed.

Everything worked fine until he downloaded and played the latest release of Minecraft. Lots of BSOD from there forward with both Minecraft and Sims 3. (These, Scratch, and Internet Explorer are all he uses the computer for.)

We've downloaded and installed updated drivers for everything that we can find. Usually things will work fine for a couple of days after a new driver is installed, high fives all around! Then, the BSODs start up again, always during game play until recently when he's had a few while on the internet.

My son likes his computer very much, but wishes to resolve its problems!

Thanks in advance for your time and concern.

I have a P3 600mhz, 2x10gb and 448mb RAM, running on WinME.
I recently installed an Elsa Gladiac 511 Geforce2 MX400 and am using nVidias latest Detonator drivers.
However i have installed 4 different software DVD players and none of them will work with the new graphics card!
I previously had a Voodoo 3 3000 and all DVD players worked fine and the hard drives have been formatted several times.
I tried installing Elsas DVD software, but the cd just continually spins in the drive without loading up, despite the fact that it works in other DVD ROM drives.
Someone suggested to me that my Voodoo drivers are still present, if so, how do i make sure that they are fully erased form the registry?
No player would work with Elsas drivers so i switched to nVidia's, but to no avail.
Whats wrong with the Geforce? Why does it have a problem with my DVD players?

My daughter loves to IM her friends. Unfortuneately they all use AOL instant messanger and I think AOL is evil and would prefer NOT to use it.

Is there another software out there that I can install that will allow my daughter to AIM with her friends who use AOL?

I have Windows XP. When I try to use or install older software that goes back to Windows 3.1, I get an error message: "Can't find SHELL.DLL". Installing or using the software will not proceed from there.

I just need to know the directory structure I should create or where to put SHELL.DLL to fake it out and get the stuff to play for me. I made it work once about 2 yrs ago, but have apparently been taking DUMB pills lately.

Any clues?

Are you an IT administrator, Support technician, Systems engineer, Network administrator, or the likes?
What software do you use at your workplace?
What software is most prominent at work places at the moment for administering and setting up employees computers and software on them, setting up security and administration on all users devices (pads, mobile phones, laptops, etc)
Remote admin tools mostly used?
And whatever else you are using at your workplace that you believe is widely used out on the market.
I'm a systems engineer. Have worked for 14 years now at the same organisation and have no idea what other workplaces use. I'm now looking for a new job and I need to take a few courses to get up to date with new knowledge, so I need to know what I should concentrate my studies on.

both myself and scootercooter have had previous threads on the subject of this infernal card.

as well as major game dvd problems i had trouble with sound, darlec like voices, it was unbearable.

it would not work some games, mostly EA sports and as you said the dvd playback was dire. as you did i downloaded all the latest drivers from nvidia, the elsa ones just would not work.

I tried all dvd software it was patchy and slow and sometimes did not work at all.

i perservered with this damn card for 6 weeks before throwing in the towel. i purchased it because as i only have pci slots and it was the best card on the market at the time.......bull!

i bought double card cooling fans to see if it was excess heat causing the problems but that had no affect.

i took it back to pcworld and they happily gave me my money back - 99. scootercooter also returned his but had more of a fight than i did for his money.

best honest advice would be to ditch the card if possible and see if there is a better one on the market now.

back in went the cheapo, cheapo sparkle 8 mb card - 25 - and hey presto everything is fine again! dvd is picture perfect, games play excellent.

sorry i could not bring you any better news or an answer to your problem.

My daughter installed AO 9.0 Security Edition on her laptop which is running Windows XP. She is using dial up. It worked fine for about a month then one day she couldn't connect. She uninstalled and reinstalled the AOL software and still nothing. The modem seems to be working properly. The phone line works. After reinstalling several times we went to AOL help (on line and talking to someone on the phone) and did several things they recommended with no luck. They say there are probably corrupt files because there is no AOL System Information folder. This is the folder that has the info to reset the sign on locations and redetect them. But there is no folder and there hasn't been in any of the last five reinstalls. When she installs AOL is always hangs up at the point of picking dialing locations and says it can't connect. We have run scandisk, checked that the modem is working. It seems like we can't get rid of the corrup files from the computer or it's not uninstalling completely. Spent five hours working on this today with no luck. Can anyone help? Would it be better to install AOL over the existing one instead of uninstalling first? Just trying to think of anything that might help at this point. Under the Phone and Modem Options in Control Panel there is a location with an area code that is not hers. It belonged to the person who had the laptop before her in another state, but it won't let her delete this location. I would appreciate any help

I was given a computer by my employers. It's an outdated model, and they were going to toss it, but my old one had recently broken, so they gave it to me. The problem is, it's still attached to their network, and I am blocked from getting admin rights on it. I've tried all of the standard ways to bypass this, DOS commands, the sticky keys trick, trying to enable the hidden admin account, ect, but they actually went through and blocked all of those as well. I was wondering if anyone could help me with this. I don't have anything important on here, so if the only way is to wipe the computer, I can do that, but I can't find my Windows 7 disk. If there isn't a way to get admin rights on the system as is, is there a way to wipe the system, but retain the OS that doesn't involve downloading programs to do it for me, or using the system restoration? They blocked that as well.

A:Got a computer from work, need help getting it to work

I believe that you need to wipe it or merely conduct a clean install of whatever O/S you intend to put on it.

When ownership transfers from the company to you...that license used by the company (if a volume license) becomes invalid, since it was issued to the company.

If that system has retail or OEM license for that particular system...then that can be transferred to you, along with the Windows disks.

If this is an OEM (HP, Dell, Lenovo, etc.) system, you could also contact the manufacturer about obtaining the appropriate recovery/restore-to-factory-defaults CDs/DVDs.

I have a problem. I have a dual-boot XP and Windows 7 PC. Each OS occupies its own HD. Last week Windows 7 wouldn?t boot until windows (eventually) succeeded in fixing some disk errors (I?m guessing bad sectors). As all the hard drives (there are 3) in this PC are made by Seagate I used Seatools to examine them. The HD that has win 7 on it failed the built-in short diagnostic self test. I therefore bought a replacement HD (taking the opportunity to get a slightly larger drive). I have cloned the old HD to the new on four separate occasions using three different tools. Each time with the same result ? a boot loader error (the error number has a load of zeros followed by the letter ?e?). Just to be on the safe side I have done a full backup of the data on both disks to partition on a new 2 terabyte HD.

A couple of background notes. Originally the Windows 7 PC had Vista on it but I upgraded it to Win 7 Home Premium a couple of Months ago. This was a boxed on DVD full version (not the upgrade version) that I bought as soon as it came out because MS were doing a cheap deal on it. Strangely it would not boot properly at switch on. I had to run it under Vista to install it. I mention this because there is supposed to be a way to fix my problem manually (even tells you the steps to take in the error message).

Unfortunately because I can?t boot from my DVD at load time I can?t use this method.

I am testing by simply unplugging the old drive and (using the same leads) pluggin... Read more

A:Help getting a cloned Win 7 disk to work in dual boot PC needed please

Post back screenshot of Disk Mgmt showing all drives.

Set DVD drive to boot first in BIOS setup, reboot with DVD in drive. Does it prompt to Press Any Key to boot disk? If not reset BIOS to defaults after taking note of SATA settings. If disk still will not boot try flash stick. Both are provided in Step 6 Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot tutorial below as we'll as other steps. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstr.../bootcddvd.htm

With all other HD's unplugged boot into Disk or stick System Recovery Options to confirm partition marked active Then run 3 Startup Repairs until Win7 starts. Your imaging app probably needs boot disk to apply settings to mark Active and transfer MBR and Track 1. You may need to apply image from disk with other HDs unplugged. Partition - Mark as Active

Boot preferred HD afterwards via BIOS Boot menu key

I've registered just for this problem as I've tried just about everything imaginable. What's happening is that when trying to make a DVD from a video file (photo slideshow plus music works fine) that Windows DVD Maker will get to around 74% encoding and then just stop and give me the error message (at this point the progress meter skips to 99%): "Cannot create the DVD An error occured when burning the DVD" I've tried this using an avi file, (I know it works as I have used DVDFLick and its works great,, the menus are no where near as nice as windows dvd maker), and the sample video file included windows (I beleive its a wmv file). I have looked at the event viewer, heres my error (which seems pretty common doing a google search): Log Name: Application Source: Dvd Maker Date: 21/03/2010 11:48:45 AM Event ID: 1001 Task Category: None Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: ************** Description: The Dvd Maker engine returned an error code (-2147220992) when burning the disc. A:HELP NEEDED!!! Windows DVD Maker --> Video's will not work/burn, at all.

Hi JAG220,
Came across your post when googling, as was having exactly the same problem. DVD maker failed everytime it got to the AC3 audio (created 0kb file, then threw out the error as you described above). I tried unchecking 'AC3Filter' from the compatibility tab,
but didn't help either.
What did fix the problem was uninstalling AC3Filter. After a reboot, DVD Maker successfully completed the encoding and burnt the disc.
Hope this helps anyone with a similar problem. Hopefully microsoft can fix this, as obviously unchecking the filter in the compatibility page doesn't do anything and the filter is still interfering.
Edit: This is when burning MPEG-2 files with AC3 audio by the way (from DTV)

I think that I may be infected with a trojan of some kind. Last night the windows sercurity center popped up on the screen and said that I did not have any antivirus software installed, but I have AVG 9.0 installed and up to date. After that I tried to run Malwarebytes, Spybot Search & Destroy, and AVG. None of which would work, I tried in Safemode, normal Startup and Diagnostic Startup. I was how able to run CCleaner but that did nothing for anything. I also tried to do a system restore but it would not allow me to do that either. It also appears to have disabled my Windows uninstaller. I am not sure what to do from here, it is not allowing me to do any of the typical scans that I would typical do. I did notice that in the Windows task manager that iexplorer.exe is always running in the background. I am able to end the process but it comes back in a few seconds. Please let me know if there is anything additional I can try.

I want my Thinkpad to be stable enough to run DJ software (Native Instruments traktor). My thinkpad has 8 gb of ram and a 256 gig Samsung SSD. I followed all the tips I could find by doing a fresh install of Windows 7 SP1 and patched it up to date. I disabled every process suggested by the DJs who use PCs and also followed the recommendations on the Native Instruments site. Basically, there is nothing on this system now except for the operating system and Latency Mon. When I test it with that, I get the following error message. (attached pic). Shouldn't this machine be robust enough to run DJ software? What can I do to stabilize my system? How can I disable 'CPU throttling" as Latency Mon suggests?  ??

I have 4 DVD set of "100 Years of National Geographic" which I used with my old Win98 system.
When I upgraded to a WinXP system I forgot to copy the registration info for the software. The company that made it, Mindscape, is no longer in business. And Nat. Geo. refers you to the maufact. for help. (IOW-you're on your own )
Without the registration number the software won't load, thereby making the DVDs unviewable.
Is there anyway I can work around the registration to get this to work. This set was not cheap and I hate to think it's useless now.
BTW; I don't even know if this is compatible with XP, since there are no updates for the software.

A:Getting software to work without registration.

Well, I'm not sure about the registration code, but for the compatibility issue, right click on the program icon and go to the 'compatibility' tab. From there you can run the program in a Windows 98 compatible mode.

Hi all

I recently bought a new laptop with Vista Home Premium 32bit and everything on it works fine. Or well, not everything lol. I can't seem to get any burning software to work :s I tried installing Nero, but it gave me a message that "another program has just been updated, so you need to restart" (or something like that). I restart and it says it again. I tried installing CDBurnerXP and it installed fine, but when I start the program, nothing happens. Program don't open or anything. I then tried installing Starburn and it also installed just fine, but when I click on Data Burning Wizard, it shows up that it's trying to find CD/DVD burners, and it keeps searching forever (or well, I waited 30 minutes and then manually shutdown the program).

Anyone know why I can't get any burning software to work ?
