Q: Lenovo G400s wont boot, one of my worst purchases ...

Ok, so, about a year ago I bought for my GF's birthday a G400s, and oh boy, if I knew it would be one of my worst purchases ever made, I swear to the seven heavens that I would just give the money to the charity... So the problems started with the Samsung HDD that came with the notebook, it stopped working in 3 months after the purchase, then after a long battle with Lenovo Brazil (witch by the way, is one of the worse company that I had the displeasure of ever getting to speak with their Customer support), I gave up and bought a new HDD and changed it by myself. Then again, the notebook made a favor of frying the HDD... Then after that I changed again, and guess what? The notebook won't boot up again!!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

I update my Bios to the version 2.02 to 2.04 but after the process I see some troubles, the new bios don't recognize the vendor and the motherboard and others lenovo codes. I make my backup from original rom. Hello, I have some problem with battery. The issue start when 1 week ago. My notebook sometimes does not charge while I plugged in the adaptors to the notebook. After I turn off the notebook. I turn on it 3hours later and become a normal while I plugged in the adaptors into the notebook and charged very well. But, now I have same problem again with this.So, I do not know why this is happening and how to solve it.Please help me to handle it.Thank you very much.Regards.

I just bought Lenovo G400s notebook last day , i would like to use the standard F1-F12 key in some application/ software. The problem is that instead of just pressing F2 I have to now press and hold the Fn key + F2. Is there a way to switch back to standard key just like the software for usb slim keyboard? I checked my BIOS there are no option to switch Fn Key or hotkey mode, Fn Key Lock option under the Configuration tab. Any solution can solve my problem?  Thanks

Hi,I need some help, my dolby v2 on lenovo g400s doesn't work at all.i just update my bios from 7BC21WW (V1.05) to 7BC38WW(V2.04) it causing my dolby doesn't work and swapped the function of f1-f12.i managed to enable the function of f1-f12 through bios configbut i still can't fix the dolby audio and i'm already reinstall the driver but it doesn't affect anything.maybe anyone have the bios version 7BC21WW (V1.05) so i can revert it.or any suggestion? thank you so much.

While dowgrading Lenovo g400s windows 8 to 7 the setup was stopped. When I press the restart button then it keeps restarting itself. I can enter into Bios but can't boot from any device (HDD, USB, DVD, CD) It gives message "Auto reboot (EC coldboot) count = xxxx. When tried to boot from usb, It loads only a few files then starts restarting

Have you tried Pressing the novo menue and try accessing the recovery.
   You might still be able to put back the original os back and start with the downgrade again.
 
You can also try booting from the DVD / CD or USB but you have to check if these settings in the BIOS are met.
 
 
Got to Exit Tab and Change OS Optimized Default to Other OS
 
  Save and exit the boot into BIOs again
  Under Boot Tab
          Change Boot mode to Legacy
           USB Boot should be enabled
    Under Security
          Secure Boot Has to Be disabled
          
Once All are Set Make sure to save all changed by hitting F10 and enter for Yes
    After Hitting enter It will Restart and You have to keep on tapping F12
       this should pull up the Boot Menu letting you select where to boot. You should have now your USB Stick as an Option or DVD/CD. Try to boot from those

 I am using a Lenovo Laptop G400s touch that came with Windows 8 preinstalled. Yesterday I updated it to Windows 10 and after that whenever I boot my pc to desktop I get an error message saying that "Unable to start the Dolby audio driver". I tried below thread but I couldn't find audio driver for G400s. Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
First make sure that the Audio driver and the dolby will be in sync.
Open Device Manager 
    Uninstall the Audio Device Under Sound and gaming controllers / Make sure to place a check in the Delete driver software prompt.
           
Now make sure you don't have any dolby components
    Proceed to Control Panel / Programs / Uninstall a Program
                     Uninstall all Dolby Related programs
                             Restart if Prompted
Now install this software driver
 
 https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/audio142w81.exe
When you install this software it will show you a directory path whre it will extract, Make sure to Remember the path
 
This next xtep is important

Open the directory path where the Audio driver installer extracted the Audio driver.

Check all the folders inside it and find the Dolby Installers, Install the Dolby either Advanced audio or Digital plus.
 
ANd you should now get your dolby back

Hello folks,I'm with a little issue about a Lenovo G400S laptop. It's freezing at "Lenovo logo" at booting and only is coming back to the work after pressing any keyboard button. If we don't press the keyboard button, it keeps the boot logo showing for hours. I've already tried to remove the battery and power adaptor and the issue persists. I've also updated the BIOS to the latest and the issue persists. Thanks for the help.

I cannot believe what i have been going through with Lenovo. Sometime in november my idea pad z500 stopped working. Everytime i would switch on the screen would go blue. I called lenovo and they advised me to send in to Medion. The laptop would be sent out to Germany as there is where they had the repairs department. I took their advice and sent for repairs. I was promised i would receive my laptop within 10 working days.Once it arrived to Germany they called to charge me for repairs. It was done over the phone. Never again did i have a call from them not even to update me. I would call minimum 4 times a week to hear always the same thing. 'There is not much information we can give you'This continued for 6 months. I called and they told me that my laptop was unfixable and it would be sent back. This caused me so much inconvenience and stress. I have never ever come across a company like lenovo. 2 months down the line after calling everyone involved with Lenovo, i receive an email from a manager offering me a cheap laptop as a replacement. I told them i didnt want it and wanted a refund as promised from lenovo customer service . So she sent me a code to give to the retailer where i purchased. The retailer has told me they cannot refund as the warranty is over a year old.So now I am in the same boat. I have a lenovo ideapad y560.my 1st 2 month using my lenovo i already encountered problem,my screen suddenly give me blabk screen and shutdown..next problem is, while i am palying games it suddenly scramble the picture and some lines then shutdown.and when i open it there's no display. so i went to the service center since it is under warranty and they said it is the LCD is the problem so they replace the LCD,it takes a month just to replace LCD. DELL only takes next business day..next problem that i encounter is my 500gb HDD suddenly crushes while i am using my laptop,when i restart my laptop,there no boot anymore, i though it is just a virus but when i listen to the HDD there's already a sound like scratch sound inside si i need to replace my HDD.next problem is the bottom case where the hinge are screw, it was broken totaly broken(right side)when i go to the service center they said it is not covered by the warranty. so i fix it my self i put some glue on it to fix it. the last problem and very serious problem that everyone encountered and no solution is that my ATI radeon just crash down/or not working good and giving abnormal heat.when i installed ATI driver and restart it it give me black screen after the windows logo, with battery and powe adapter on it, but when i use only the battery it boots normally, but when i plug my power adapter on it, it just hang/freezes then shutdown.but if dont install the ATI driver it works fine and with battery and power adapter on ... Last night while finishing a word document I found my documents to be having issues saving. When attempting to auto save it would want to save to a separate drive. It then refused to turn off through the power off button in the start menu. Tired and getting fed up with it I hard booted it with the power button. This morning I attempt to turn it on, goes to a blue screen requesting a language for the keyboard then goes to another blue screen with troubleshooting options or shut off pc. After attempting the auto repair a message pops up saying I need to restart and try again. It's getting into the tip of assessment week and I need this laptop asap as it has all my documents on it. Any Help Would be appreciated. Thanks In Advance!

Recently unplugged power charger from yoga 3 14 and screen went blank.Tried to re power, tried reset button, tried power button 10sec reset.Power button shows light, keyboard backlight will light up and then go off power button light stays on but no display.Tried removing battery and reseating ram.Tried HDMI output to different monitor, nothing displayed.Removed and tested ssd hard drive and drive is ok.I am thinking there is a problem with the motherboard. appreciate any advice.

I replaced the HD on this laptop with an SSD a little less than a year ago. Today I found the computer had apparently rebooted itself, and was stuck on the start-up screen (instead of the usual screensaver), "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button." The blue "ThinkVantage Button" does nothing. About 1 out of 10 tries, I can get onto the screen that says "Entering BIOS setup utility," but it never actually gets there. I've tried booting the system with various disk utilites on USB drives to no avail. I can't seem to get the BIOS to change to booting from a thumb drive. More ominiously, I can't seem to get other computers to recognize the SSD when attached externally using a SATA-to-USB connector, although I don't have any other SSDs to test it to make certain it's not the connector. The drive has seen very heavy use from running [email protected], but it's not even a year old. I've checked all the USB ports to make certain they're not shorted, and I've tried resetting the system by removing the battery and powering it up 10x and then holding the power button on for 30 seconds. Anything else to try?

Hello!
Today a water was spilled on my laptop(just where dvd drive and power cord is located) and I could use it on battery normal, and after few hours I tried to charge it, laptop shuted down and since then I only get the power light that pc is turned on, for a few secounds the fan is at max speed for 1 secound and I hear a beep then laptop shuts down. I did tried to clean it from water but doesnt help. Please help me. I dont know what to do because its my only computer and I dont want to buy a new one yet.

The water has shorted out the charging system on the motherboard. For future reference, if you spill any liquid on a laptop, open it up fully, and turn it over upside down on a towel and bounce it gently for a few times. Leave it there for 24 hours Your laptop is most likely toast...

Here's my sad story (I'm using a Lenovo Z580 laptop with Windows 7):

On Tues, 11/11/14 I installed all of the critical & important Windows Updates along with 2 additional updates (I don't recall what the additional ones were for).

After the updates completed I rebooted the machine, but the display did not come on. The lights and fan came on, but no display. I rebooted 3 or 4 more times and nothing changed. I plugged an external monitor into the laptop but got no display on either screen. From there I spent an hour or so powering the machine completely down, removing the battery, then rebooting while trying to enter either Safe Mode with F8 or the BIOS with F2 but each time I did the computer did not respond. A friend suggested removing and replacing the CMOS battery. I did that, put the machine back together, but now when I push the power button the lights and fan come on for about 1 second, go off for about 8 seconds, and that cycle (1 second on, 8 seconds off) repeats until I remove the battery. I did put back the original CMOS battery and the same thing continues to happen.

I've gone all over the internet for the past 2 days looking for suggestions and nothing I've found or done is resolving the issue.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Right now I've got a brick, so I'm pretty willing to try anything.

I have a B590 that came with Windows 7 Pro. I have been trying to get it to boot from USB and nothing seems to work.
I have the settings in the Bios at,
Under Boot Tab
Change Boot mode to Legacy
USB Boot should be enabled
Under Security
Secure Boot is disabled
and I set USB at first boot device.

As soon as I save and exit from Bios, it boots Windows.
I reboot and use F12 and click USB and it boots to Windows.
I have tried a Data Traveler and a Patriot Slate.
I have made them bootable in diskpart and tried FAT and FAT32.

Does anyone have any knowledge about this? I asked this in Lenovo forum, but I figure you guys are smarter.

Hello philetus now this begs the question what is on that USB stick? If it some form of Windows 7 media I am wondering how you managed to get it on a stick and also have you updated the USB drivers.

I am also concerned that you have been into the BIOS and changed it around like that not that I am any great expert on what should be changed, but I do know I had to change a few of the EUFI settings on my Asus ROG to get it to boot 7 which included changing the BIOS to the latest version before I could install 7 drivers.

Hi! i have lenovo g575 laptop and yesterday i tried to replace the screen. the new screen was staying white so i got the old one back in ant it was working (but it is cracked). when i reattached the new one again i wasnt able to boot the laptop up. the fan starts spinning and the leds come on but it shuts down after few sec. now the lapatop is not working whit any of the screens. any solution? i alrady tried replacing the ram and the hdd.

No battery available for Lenovo Ideapad 510 bought 14 months back. Service Centres in India and neither the Lenovo India Management have any clue or ETA about the battery availability or its pricing as confirmed by them. Few other Lenovo exclusive charging or rather black marketing with different high prices with various warranties for those batteries. They do not have any uniform pricing patterns which raises issues on its authenticity. Feel cheated and deceived for putting trust in such a company leaving aside other brands like Dell and HP.

I have Lenovo Y50 UHD with additional warranty for 2 years including accidental damage protection. Recently that warranty has lapsed, within couple of weeks a forced windows update broke the OS completely.Windows is on preparing autotmatic repair loop forever. I tried reaching lenovo customer service - first thing obviously they ask for is serial number and as soon as they find that the warranty has lapsed they don't even spare a minute in trying to help.  Unlike laptops from other vendors it seems, there is no tool to prepare a recovery disk myself by downloading it from online. It seems only option is to order a recovery drive from Lenovo and keep hoping that they will send an appropriate one and that it goes well.

Sorry to hear you are having issues.  As to downloading a recovery online Lenovo does offer that.  Maybe you just didnt see it?  See below.

When I purchased my Yoga  3 my first thought was to purchase the extended warranty with accidental protection from Squaretrade instead of from Lenovo. Today I wish I had. Two and a half weeks ago I sent my notbook to lenovo support to the address in Louisville, Kentucky as they instructed because the case warped, the LCD stopped working, LCD case warped also and the upper case had to be replaced and it was a no-post and would not start  But I would charge and the battery was full. They received it for rapair on April 12th 2017 its  case number was 7025182746 . I just got it back today April 28th 2017. I turned it on with the power cord plugged into it and begain to let it run the windows updates. As it was finishing and just as it was about to restart a message appeard 10 then 8% power then shut down and hasn't started since. The exact same prome I sent it in for the first time still exist. Now they are having me send it back in under a new case number 70255275634 the only difference they want me to also send in the adapter and cord.  I bought the extended warranty with accidental protection from you. So not just replace it... They have had it for 12 days and its still not fixed. Now I have to wait another 12 days?  If they tested it as they said I would not bee having this problem

Lenovo has the worst customer service I have experienced in years.  This is regardless of industry or product.  My ThinkPad recently displayed a message indicating it had an internal defect and directed me to place a service call.  I called repeatedly -- at least 6X -- and the Lenovo phone system kept hanging up on me!  This happened over a 3-day period.  I finally gave up, turned the machine off, rebooted and was up and running again.  Is the problem still out there?  Probably.  But I can't rely on Lenovo to stand behind its product and help get it fixed. I received a new error message from Lenovo Solution Center today and was directed to contact support for assistance.  I tried this time to do a live chat.  After repeated attempts to log into this so-called service, I received a grayed-out live chat window which did absolutely nothing.  I shut down the window after 10 minutes and tried live chat again.  I received a grayed-out live chat window which has been spinning for 45 minutes and I'm still without someone to talk to about the problem.  I guess the answer from Lenovo is to make it so difficult for customers to reach them that they finally give up.  Saves on support expense.  I can't wait for this machine to die -- I'll take great satisfaction in throwing it in the trash ... where it belongs! I will never again use a Lenovo product and would strongly recommend anyone reading this entry ... Hi,  Its been a very bad experience with the lenovo laptop that i bought 6 months back. Right now its in broken condition and the irony is I neither dropped the laptop nor any accidental damage that has ever happened. It is just an outcome of daily normal use that the hindge and the laptop base are detached. Customer care is keep on giving the excuses that its due to accident or something without any proper analysis. Its purely a built quality problem and i feel like i have been betrayed by wasting my hard earned money on this. Totally a flop show. Please look into this ASAP. ThanksShashank Gupta

I bounght Lenovo Laptop W530 with i7 and 16GB RAM with 256 SSD disk and 1 TB disk for almost 2000$ , it is only 2 and half year since i bought the mother board stopped working , I took it lenovo authorised technician , he said i have  to replace the mother board, to replace the mother board it almost costs the same cost of the laptop from Lenovo support services and its not availble outside lenovo. and I escalated to customer service manager and sent the laptop to IBM and they returned the laptop back to me saying it is too expensie to fix it, what a piece of crap is this product ? what a pathetic lenovo customer service ? I had only problem with motherboard and USB but after I sent the laptop to the IBM lenovo customer service oh every thing is broken it is extremly expensive to fix it and the customer service execute manager 'Nikki' is such a pain, a liar and a coward , she started telling lies as if I took a hammer and smashed the laptops to cause the laptop damage, I told her i only had issue with the mother board as per the lenovo technician i didn't take the hammer and hit the lapatop, What a lousy customer service manager Nikki, it is ok if they can't repair it but to tell lies to the customer and blame him/her instead of taking responsibility for their poor product how is that fair???? I am never going to buy another LENOVO product and request all the people DO NOT BUY LENOVO LAPTOPS, its quality is gone to the gu...
