HD audio driver fixed-no output audio installed

Q: HD audio driver fixed-no output audio installed

hello everyone:

i looked in on seven forums trying to find a fix for my driver problem, a lot of friends here were helpfull, i like to give back a little even if my pc is working fine now.

my pc is a desktop running windows 7 pro, motherboard esc a780gm-a, i had a problem with my hd audio driver, under my control panel audio device i only could see "no audio device installed" even when i installed it 10 times, i also saw on my right conner "no audio output installed"

i had a logitech camera installed.

the fix:
i found that my logitech camera was somehow in conflict with my audio device, it kep telling me "communication mic ???" something like that, well after uninstall the logitech camera software my audio came back and its now working perfect.

i hope this helps.

check if you have a camera with a built in mic, this might be your problem.
thank you all.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium on my Dell Inspiron E1505.

I have had no problems with it for several years; however, recently my computer has booted with a red 'X' on my audio and tells me that "No Audio Output Device is Installed." I checked my Drivers and my High Definition Sound and 2 Base System Device drivers have Yellow Question Marks by them. I tried to update the drivers manually but it says Windows Cannot Find Support for your Base System Device and it says my High Definition Audio is already up to date. I have also tried uninstalling the drivers and rebooting Windows to let the system automatically search and update the drivers. This too has failed. I do not have my Windows 7 disc available at the moment to be able to do a clean install.

Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Guys,

About a month ago i had my new dell XPS 17' (L702x) Laptop Delivered.
After a few days (and many driver & software updates) i started to get a "stuttering" problem while listening to music/ watching videos etc. Also Noticed the computer being quite laggy (mouse cursor would skip around from time to time when moving it).

So i decided to do a reformat, free of all the useless dell addons etc.

- Successfully Reinstalled Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1,

- Installed my basic drivers off the dell resource CD that came with the laptop.
-Intel PROSet Lan & WiFi Drivers,
-Realtek Audio Drivers,
-Nvidia Video Drivers,
-Renesus usb 3.0 host controller,
-Dell Quickset.

-Now that my network drivers were going, i downloaded and installed all relevant windows updates.

-Then, i installed the programs i commonly use:
-Zone Alarm Antivirus (from reading other forums McAfee may have been the cause of some of the issues i was having so i didn't want to re-install that just yet.)
-iTunes,
-vlc,
-Stereoscopic3D Player (yes, i got the 3D Screen + Nvidia Glasses upgrade )
-Magic Disk virtual disk drive
-winrar
-Microsoft office 2010 professional
-Steam & Origin (CS:S, CS:GO Beta, MW3, Crysis, BF3)

After doing all of this everything seemed to work fine. played music for hours without stuttering, watched a few movies, played a few gam... Read more

A:No Audio Output Driver Installed On System Startup/Reboot. HELP!

Too bad you did a disc reinstall, that invalidated the Dell recovery partition (accessed by F8 at power on) and you will not be able to use that for reinstalls if needed.

The Soundblaster could be a software enhancement to the RealTek as Dell has used this on some systems or it could have just been a mistake. You can look at the Dell invoice and see what came with the PC.

Did you try a System Restore back to a date prior to installing the SoundBlaster software? If not give that a try.

Back to the stuttering. That can be a driver issue (make sure you use the Dell supplied sound driver as we have found, on the Dell forum, that non Dell drivers either do not work or do not work correctly). You can check the Dell downloads to see if there is an updated driver.

You can look over the Dell manual install instructions, too, in case something was skipped during the install.

No sound.
Little speaker with the red 'x' appeared yesterday
I have gone through the whole update drivers circus to no avail, my laptop can't detect that it has speakers built in so it doesn't bother finding a driver for them.

This is where I am at:
- Intel Display Audio is the only driver installed for sound
- This means that sound works when the laptop is plugged into an HDMI
- When HDMI is not plugged in, the computer cannot find the built in speakers.
- I have Linux on this system and audio does not work there as well

I would call this a broken chipset, but the fact that the computer still processes audio with the HDMI cable attached is confusing me. Also, the 'audio board' for this laptop has 2 usb ports attached to it, and those both work fine.

Any help would be appreciated

Hello.

Im having the dreadful "No Audio Output Device is Installed" problem on my realtek audio.

It worked some months ago, but im in no position to do a roll back. Im sure the hardware is just fine, it works with Ubuntu.

The computer is a Dell Vostro 430.
My OS is win7 64bit.

I tried the newest Realtek driver suite, the recommended dell-drivers and some basic windows-drivers. Nothing makes the "No Audio Output Device is Installed" go away.

Any help is welcome.
Ive attached my sound-related reg. I believe my realtek device is 0001.

A:Realtek Audio: No Audio Output Device is Installed

The Dell driver is required, non Dell drivers will either not work or not work correctly.

First thing, is the Integrated Audio enabled in the BIOS? (F2 at boot up to enter Setup).

Second, on Dell's (and many others) if the motherboard chipset drivers were not installed, the sound device will not work. In this model there are Intel motherboard chipset drivers. Try installing them and then the Dell sound driver. Dell Drivers

I'm running a Dell XPS 420, which came with Windows Vista. I decided this morning that I was going to give Windows 7 a try, backed up some media on another PC, and did a completely fresh install.

Everything worked perfectly, I didn't even have to install any drivers. My native resolution was automatically correct, the sound worked, the internet worked, everything was dandy. It worked perfectly, and for the record, I really enjoyed it. I used it for several hours, getting used to the new features and whatnot.

I went to sleep for a few hours, and then went out for a while. When I came back, the sound had stopped working. It gave me no error at the time, it just didn't work. WinAmp wouldn't play my MP3s, Youtube videos were without audio, system sounds weren't playing, and yet, the volume was enabled and at an audible level of 67. My speakers were still connected properly, too.

I figured maybe a reboot was in order, and when I restarted, there was no sound still. Now, however, the speaker taskbar icon had a red x next to it, with the words "No Audio Output Device is installed." on the tooltip. I rebooted again and there was no change.

Using the Windows 7 trouble shooter, it says that "Hardware changes might not have been detected."

The odd thing is, this has happened to me before with Windows Vista. I wanted to perform a clean re-install of Vista, and when I did so, the sound worked perfectly for a few hours, before going out again. I would re-install Vi... Read more

A:Audio stops working, "No Audio Output Device Installed"

Hi filmtrauma, welcome to the forums.

While you have been asleep, Windows Update may have installed a new Sound driver for you which may have caused this error. Open Windows Update and click 'View Update History'....

You could try downloading the latest drivers from the hardware manufacturer, a lot are now supporting Windows 7 too..

Also, is your sound hardware plugged in (to the motherboard) securely? It's rare but i've dealt with some cases of hardware coming loose, might be worth a look. Another thing to check may be the temperature of the card, it may be getting overly hot due to a dust build up (might not be, i'm not 100% up-to-date on all sound hardware).

Hope this helps

I've spent countless hours trying to fix this. It started out with me wanting to enable the "stereo mix" option and so following a youtube video I proceeded to updating the driver using device manager > update driver and after restarting, I received this error.

I then downloaded the newest driver of the manufacturer website (realtek hd audio) realtek.com and installed it. Mind you, the stereo mix option did in fact show up, although I couldn't make use of any audio since I was getting the "no audio output device is installed" error.

All this time, I can still see the mic/line-in inputs, and headphone/speaker outputs in the sounds (control panel). I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, and using the roll-back option for drivers. Although from control panel, I managed to uninstall the sound card software for realtek. Between all of this, after any sort of install or uninstall I also restarted my computer.

I downloaded the drivers from the HP site (PC manufacturer for my comp) and the Realtek site (sound card creator) and all of them are giving me the same results.

Furthermore, I even tried the System Restore and it wouldn't work complaining about an anti-virus when all of mine are already disabled. I checked what the System Restore would affect too and nothing for my driver was in there as far as I know.

I'm really not sure what my options are now, and it's sucks not having any sound.

Please help me out! Thanks!

Hello,My problem is this: I have an old  set of speakers such that the left speaker eventually stopped working.
Upon taking it apart, turns out the wire was just pulled away from the solder to the pins.I replaced the wire and it was good as new.
After a few months of use, (once in a while use) the left speaker "stopped" workingI later discovered that it still works, but is very very quiet.Such that, I have to set the right speaker balance to 9% and left to 100% to get the same volume from both speakers.I took it apart today, re-glued the wires back to the pins, no difference.
So I am wondering, with Dell Audio client, and my Dell xps 8700, which has a front and back 3.5mm audio jacks, can I set the balance to the front port to be my 100/9 for the speakers, and 100/100 for the back which connects to my headphones?
I took a look in the audio client, but it looks like no such option exists.Do I go looking for a new set of speakers or is there an easy option here?

A:Can you change the balance output on a specific audio jack output with Dell Audio?

I believe both jacks are controlled and connected to the same ports and software so directing one to do one thing and another to do something different isn't possible as far as I know.  Maybe someone will have a different answer, but I don't think Dell's software is advanced enough.

Hi,
I've been having an on-off problem with my Vista 32-bit computer for about a year now. It happened after I changed the language system locale on my computer from English (UK) to English (US); changing it back to English (UK) didn't solve the issue.
The problem is, sometimes the audio won't work and I get the 'No Audio Output Device Is Installed' message over my speaker icon. I haven't got a clue why the problem isn't constant, sometimes when I switch on the computer the sound is fine, and other times, it isn't working. There have been loads periods where the sound works fine for months so I assume the problem has fixed itself, but then the audio doesn't work again one day.

The problem seems to have come back again now and has been happening on-off for about a month now. I tried reinstalling SoundMAX when the audio was working yesterday (it never allowed me to install it when the audio was off) and managed to get it installed. I thought this would solve the issue, but today I turned on the computer and the sound was dead again, accompanied by a message that said something along the lines of 'Your audio configuration has changed, you must reinstall SoundMAX'. I tried doing that, but it says the files don't support my computer.

I should also note that I've tried most of the solutions on google, like going into device manger and enabling the sound drive, but the 'Sound, Video and Game Controllers' t... Read more

When the problem occurs, check Device Manager and see if the audio chipset is listed. If it's listed, it could simply be a driver issue. Try updating/reinstalling the audio drivers. If it's not listed, most likely it's a hardware fault (ie: faulty audio chipset). The language change is likely just a coincidence.

Hello,

This would be my second Topic on Bleeping Computer. I have a old HP DV5215us notebook computer. I recently reformatted it from XP and added Windows 7. Before adding Windows 7 I have not touched the computer in around 3 years. All I remember about the computer is that the audio was not working and I may have somehow manually uninstalled it.

Currently, after adding Windows 7 the computer works great except I have the message "No Audio Output is Installed" when I scroll my mouse over the audio in the task bar. I have tried many things to get the audio back such as installing different versions (older and newer) of Realtek AC97. That did not solve the issue. I have also tried installing the computers audio drivers on the Hewlett Packard website (covenext). That did not work either. Lastly, I tried going into device manager and manually selecting every audio device and that did not work. I also tried using windows update to find the drivers and it couldn't.

When I open device manager I have Multimedia Audio Controller and PCI modem that have a yellow mark next to them.

My goal is to get the audio working.

If you know of any suggestions please help me out.

Hello,

I have tried following other suggestions on other threads, but to no avail. I have a Toshiba Satellite U405/Windows Vista 64. The sound stopped working a couple weeks back and it seems there are no longer any device drivers even listed for sound.

I have tried going into BIOS, but there is nothing listed for audio that is changeable. I have tried reinstalling the audio driver (conexant) but it comes up with an error message (driver installation failed, could not find the media device for this driver). I have also tried reinstalling the driver for the chipset, but same message.

I have also tried to get the mfg name of the motherboard via Everest, but it comes up as unknown.

The device manager list not longer has a sub-listing for sound, but there is a yellow flag next to 6T04 Adapter (Network Adapter).

Any suggestions for how to deal with this would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I have been having this problem for about a month now. There is a red x over my sound saying no audio output device installed. I have tried everything I could find that worked for people on here. I have done the uninstall and restart and reinstall and getting the drivers etc. it keeps telling me no matter what I do it "failed". Even when windows tried fixing it. I have a hp pavilion zd8000 (yes i have tried hp's site) and it is a notebook. under my device manager it shows up with the yellow triangle with the exclamation point. I desperately want my sound back, help please!!

A:No audio output device installed?

I'd try the following:
1. Check to see that the sound is enabled in the BIOS.
2. Unistall the device from the device manager and let Windows find it again.

You may have a bad componet on your mobo that will require you to take it a local repair shop.

Sorry that you are having this problem. It appears to be a common problem with no real fix. I have not found a resolution for this and posted this same question the other day. No one has really been able to help.

I'm becoming a pro at troubleshooting my laptop ....
If you go to Start... type system in the search.... look for System information and click on that.
Click on Software Environment, System drivers. Once that opens up..... scroll down til you find the Conexant Driver. The driver is there, but it is stopped. It should probably say Conexant UAA Function Driver ...... and if you scroll across that line.... you'll see where it says 'Stopped" ....

The problem is getting it restarted. If I can ever figure this out and find out why it keeps stopping ... then we'll be in business.

If any of the guru's on here happen to see this..... please give a little insite.

I've been having this problem since Christmas, and I still can't solve it. I have no audio devices installed, according to my PC. It started when I changed oyt a 512 MB stick of RAM for 2 x 2GB sticks/when I installed a new Buffalo External Hard Drive. After installation of both, the sound mysteriously went (On XP SP2 or 3 (forget which) at the time). I had some Realtek Driver at the time, and that vanished too. I have tried reinstalling all Realtek audio drivers and codecs for my OS (pre and post upgrade to W7). I've tried reenabling it in my BIOS, but I'm not sure where to check for it there. I tried upgrading to Windows 7 (which is why I decided to upgrade my RAM in the first place). I've ran diagnostics to no avail and I've also tried various driver programs. Does anybody know the solution to my problem?

My DxDiag report and relevant screenshots will be attached.

hello all. recently i've incountered an audio driver issue. i have an ALC 888 soundcard from Realtek. one day i left my computer on overnight charging my phone via usb. when i turned the screen on, the volume icon on the bottom right had a red cross on it and i couldnt run anything audio related including itunes..... i googled a ton and couldnt come to a solution. i tried updating, uninstalling, reinstalling, drivers.
at first, when i went to device manager, instead of seeing 'Realtek High Definition Audio Output' (which i think is supposed to say), i saw 2 listed. it was 'high quality bluetooth audio' and 'bluetooth audio' i managed to update the drivers manually, by making it browse my C: drive. everything worked as it should and the icon on the bottom right was corrected. but my speaker and earphones wouldnt work. my itunes and audio related files were running correctly at this point with no errors; just no output. so i uninstalled both bluetooth highquality audio devices and deleted the update file for it that was in my C: drive. as of now, when i go to device manager, there is no 'sound, video, blah blah' option. and the red cross is BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! please help

I installed the latest required updates to my HP Pavilion DV6000 and now I have a speaker symbol with a red circle and white "X" inside of it saying that there is no audio output device installed. I do not know what happened for this to happen. I scanned my computer for viruses and have none. It seems like its a Vista problem from what I have been able to gather from reading but what ever it is I hope you can help. If you need any further info I will have to provide it as you request it because I don't know much other than what I just told you but I'll try and get you what you need so you can help me. thx.

See if re-installing the current sound driver will help. See below article (mainly method 5)

Hey,
My sound doesn't work and there is a little red x on the speaker in the bottom right hand corner and it says "no audio output device is installed." My system recognizes when i plug in new headphones or speakers but it won't play any audio. But, on my headphones there is a volume up/down button and my headphones make a beep when i press them. I can't trouble shoot it. It just says that the "audio device is disabled." I go into Start>Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Sound and my headset is plugged in, enabled, and working properly. And when i unplug it, it switches to my onboard "Digital Audio (s/PDIF)
Please Help =X
Thank you in advance =D

Hi all,

In the taskbar I have a volume-icon with a red cross on it. When I go to this icon, "No audio output device installed" appears.

I have a Intel Corporation DQ965GF mainboard with onboard sound.
When I go to Control panel -> sound, everything is gray and not clickable.
In Device Manager, I found "file as volume driver", "volume manager" and "high definition audio controller", under system devices. Nothing else...

I searched on the intel website but did not find a solution or drivers...

Can someone help me, because atm I have no sound.

A:No audio output device installed

Make sure that in the BIOS, that the on board sound is turned on.

I'm doing a complete installation of Windows 7 32-bit. So far everything seems to be going well except for the sound. There is none. The little icon over on the right side said "No audio output device is installed". So I went to the Internet and downloaded the package for Realtek. BTW, the sound "card" is built into the motherboard. I did the installation, following all of the instructions, and then rebooted the system as it said to do. When the system came back up it still said "No audio output device is installed".

Would anybody have an idea as to what I've done wrong or what is wrong with my system? I would really appreciate the help.

Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

Have you tried installing the drivers that would have been bundled with the motherboard installation DVD?

I'm running Vista on a ThinkPad R61i. A few days ago, I started getting messages that the "on screen messaging system" wasn't working, my volume and mute buttons suddenly stopped functioning, and my audio went out completely. The volume control icon has an X beside it, and when I mouse over it, it says "No Audio Output Device is Installed."My audio had been working fine since I got the computer this spring, and I haven't uninstalled anything. Thoughts?

I have the same issue. R61 on VISTA.  In addition to the audio, the system is not longer able to locate our ( or any ) wireless network.  The problem started on 6/9/08 after some type of automatic windows update took place.  System restore is not able to correct the problem.

For a while now(speaking in month terms), my sound would be working just fine. But sometimes when I put it into hibernate(for the night) and turn it back on, my speaker icon would have a red X over it. The only way this goes away is if I leave the computer off for a long time or, spam restarts(lol). What can be the problem here? My guess is that it's getting old or something. Sometimes, the sound works again at random times. When that happens I try to leave the laptop on since shutting it off in away way gets rid of it. But while it was on for a few days, the sound went away without notice.

Also, when I try to find it in the device manager, it doesn't show up. It can't even detect it either.

My laptop is an HP pavilion dv2610 btw

A:No audio output device is installed...

Apparently, I just fixed it. What I did was run Windows Startup Repair. But it took too long so tried to cancel it. But since it didn't let me cancel, I just forcefully shut down my laptop(holding the button) and restarted, which led to my sound working.

I'm trying to get sound to work in windows Vista but am having no luck, it just keeps telling me that there is no audio output device installed. I installed the current Realtek AC''97 audio drivers for Vista but after I restart nothing happens and I still get the same error message when I hover the mouse over the speaker icon.

As of right now I don't know what other drivers there are, my motherboard is an ASUS KN8 ultra.

EDIT: I think it's actually a K8N ultra.

A:No Audio Output Device is Installed

Check in your BIOS that the AC'97 is enabled, also see what you get in Device Manager - check for "!"'s in the icon, is there an error code for any devices or anything listed as "Other Devices"?
