Q: Issue w 3 Monitors on a Lenovo T470s and a ThinkPad Ultra Dock using 2 Displayport and 1 HDMI...

I'm trying to use 3 external monitors on my T470s, but it's only giving me the option to select 2 of the 3 external monitors when all three are hooked up. I'd like to disable my built-in display because it's smaller and darker, but it doesn't give me the option to select anything else for the 3rd slot. I've tried both HDMI ports on the dock and on the PC with no success. Is it even possible to have 3 extended (independent) external displays using this laptops hardware?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, Everyone. Got me a nice little x270 to replace my old x201.  Happy enough with the machine, but getting it connected to my accessories (monitor, keyb, mouse, ethernet) is a bit of a chore. This machine appears to have a "proper" dock port on the bottom.  Is there a compatible ultradock available for the model 20HN x270?  By proper - I mean, Not USB.  A nice dock I can simply drop the machine into when I'm at the home office.. Thanks!

I am trying to connect two Sceptre U27 4k monitors via display port to the Thinkpad Ultra Dock 40A2 and i'm not having any luck. With a Thinkpad T470s) I can get 1 working but the other monitor just doesn't see a signal. The only setup i've gotten to work is one monitor at 4k @ 30hz on a Display Port and the other at 1920x1080 via DVI I have tried:both display port, 4k @ 30hz (<--- what i'd like to get working since both at 60hz isn't an option with this dock I don't believe)one display port, 4k @ 30hz, one hdmi 4k @ 30hz (via hdmi on the back of the dock)one display port, 4k @ 30hz, one hdmi via hdmi port on the side of the laptop Is anyone familiar with what magic combination of cables and ports would allow me to run both 4k monitors at 30hz, via the two display ports at the back of this dock? I would think updating the docks firmware may help ( https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/ThinkPad-Pro-Dock-ThinkPad-Ultra-Dock-or-Thin... ) but there inlies another issue.  Our corporate image on these laptops is RHEL 7.5 and I do not see an option to flash any firmware available from linux unfortunately. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My company has issue me a Lenovo T470s and an Ultra Dock to replace my existing equipment. I have two external monitors connected to the docking station with display port cables. The problem that I am experiencing is that if the laptop is docked and the cover is open, I get video on the laptop display and one external monitor. The other external monitor gets no signal and goes to sleep. If I close the laptop cover, I get video on both external monitors. A co-worker told me that this was working as designed and that the solution for getting video on all three monitors was to connect one external monitor to one of the display ports and the other to the DVI port. (He hadn't tested this configuration and is using two display ports with the laptop cover closed.) I tried my coworker's suggestion and got the same result but prior to switching to DVI, I downloaded and installed the latest(?) driver for the HD Graphics 620 adapter from this website (lenovo.com) and that seemed to solve the problem (when using two display ports) but after shutting the laptop down, I had the same issue the next day. What I want, is to have the laptop cover open and still be able to use two external monitors and get optimal resolution on all three monitors. What's the best configuration for achieving this? (Don't guess, like my co-worker. Give me something you've tested and that you can confirm that it works.)

I've tried everything I could find on the forum, but all the drivers and firmware are already installed (from what I have seen).  Please help, I have tons of work coming up very soon and I am severely limited with this tiny screen. Thanks in advance for your help.

I can't figure out how to make this work.I also tried this setup:Monitor 1 - laptop screen - works.Monitor 2 - VGA out to VGA in - worksMonitor 3 - HDMI out to HDMI in - worksMonitor 4 - DP out to HDMI in via a DP-HDMI cable.  - doesn't work. Incidentally in this configuration, when I closed the laptop screen this monitor worked.  Also on a related note, the Nvidia Quadro P500  is sitting idle as the Intel UHD 620 is doing all the work.  How can I control this? Thanks for any suggestions. Sal

A:Thinkpad P52S Ultra Dock and 3 External Monitors

As stayed in PSREF, P52s supports up to three independent displays. Laptop's screen includes in this limit, meaning you can use two external displays at that time. When you close the lid, you can use three external displays. To use more, you'll need some sort of USB adapter to increase such a limit. Regarding other question, you can't disable Intel GPU - it's always active and it's always controls screen output. NVIDIA's dGPU can be configured to be used in selected applications, making them to work with higher performance. P52 and P72 for sure have an ability to disable Intel iGPU, giving the control of screen output to dGPU. Probably P1 and/or X1 Extreme have the same feature too.

I have a Thinkpad W540 with a Lenovo Ultra Dock Docking Station (40A20170US). Here is the set up I am trying to get to work:Display 1) VGA Planar PL2010M monitorDisplay 2) DVI Planar PL1910M monitorDisplay 3) DisplayPort Lenovo L2251x Wide monitorDisplay 4) LCD monitor (off) When I have selected Standard Mode under the BIOS display settings, I am able to connect two monitors plus the internal LCD at the same time: one on VGA and the other on DVI, or I can connect one on VGA and the other on DisplayPort.  This allows me to have three displays, including the LCD.  My problem is that I am unable to get a third monitor to work as well.  When I connect a monitor via DisplayPort, the monitor on DVI stops working.  After reading forum posts and whatever else I found online, I learned (maybe I'm incorrect?) that I need to switch to Advanced Mode in the BIOS to be able to use three external monitors.   I then uninstalled drivers (the BIOS instructions state that you are supposed to uninstall graphics drivers before switching to Advanced Mode), switched to Advanced Mode in the BIOS, started up the computer, reinstalled the latest drivers, but now the only screen working is my laptop's LCD screen.  None of monitors are detected by Windows no matter what I try. When I switch back to Standard Mode in the BIOS, two of my external monitors begin working again. My docking station firmware is updated FYI.   Any suggestions ... Read more

A:Unable to connect to 3 monitors to Ultra Dock (Thinkpad W540) in Advanced Mode BIOS Setting

So I fixed the issue for myself and just wanted to post in case somebody else had the same issue.  I took the following steps to fix the issue:[Background: BIOS is in "Standard" display mode to begin with; I had already updated the docking station's firmware first with a program called fwdphb03.exe and then with Lenovo's update utility.]1) In Windows, I uninstall drivers for the Intel Graphics and K1100 dedicated card.2) Restart, go into BIOS, switch to "Advanced" mode under the Display tab.  I also have the option selected to start up on the docks in the BIOS Display tab.3) Booted into Windows (8.1) and it looked like the Intel Graphics drivers were automatically downloaded. I then ran Lenovo's System Update utility to get the latest video drivers.  Under the optional tab in the Lenovo update utility, I selected the "Optimus" drivers and hit download/install.  It installed, and I had to restart.4) Booted into Windows again, ran Lenovo update utility again, and again it had a video driver to install when I checked for updates.  I installed that, had to restart again.5) Booted into windows, checked screen resolution and saw that no external monitors were showing.6) I then decided to get a driver straight from the source.  Downloaded: the following file from  Nvidia: 334.95-quadro-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql.exe.  I ran the installation, it did a "Clean" installation with everything checked off. I have a W541 and it always worked well with the dock and dual external monitors, that is until the firmware was updated by Lenovo System Update to the Latest Version: 2.33.000 about a week ago. Now when you boot the laptop in the dock, the post shows on the two external monitors then they go black and seem to disconnect as the power saving icon shows on both monitors. If you undock the laptop at this point and immediately re-dock, the two monitors light up and no more issues. While this isnt a huge issue, it is very annoying since it always worked properly before the update. Any suggestions on a possible fix are much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

T470s running Win7 x64 Enterprise USB ports on the local laptop/machine work fine when docked or undocked - it's only when the machine is docked using the 170W Ultra Dock that the dock USB ports don't function at all.  I do not hear Windows recognizing the port via audible notifications.  There seems to be no issues within Device Manager.  The dock does recognize external displays (via display port),, so part of the dock seems to be working ok.  It's just the USB ports that seemed to be somehow turn off.  MY next step is to test the OEM version of the OS with the dock to see if I can reproduce the issue.  But curious if anyone else has seen this or resolved this issue before?   Thanks in advance

I have just taken delivery of a T470p and have done a fresh install of Windows 10 Enterprise and updated that to version 1703 build 15063.540. The T470p replaces an aging X240. I used the X240 with a ThinkPad Ultra Dock type 40A2 (P/N SD20F82750) with 2 ThinkVision LT2452p monitors attached via DisplayPort. Everything worked reasonably fine with the X240 docked - both monitors ran at 1920x1200 resolution. I'd get the occasional problem where I'd have to open and close the X240's lid to force it to realise it was docked, but I could live with that. But...if I dock the T470p then neither monitor works. Both monitors' power LED turn green when I dock the laptop (so I assume the dock and the monitors are talking to one another) but they then turn orange and there isn't a picture on either monitor. If I unplug one of the DisplayPort cables from the Ultra Dock one of the monitors gets a picture, but as soon as I plug the cable back into the dock the monitor goes blank. Is this a known problem? My employer are about to order 40-50 T470p laptops but if we need to purchase new Ultra Docks as well I think we will have to have a rethink. Kind regards, /Neil

I have a few thousand Ultra Dock scattered across NA. We are in the process of replacing all laptops attached to existing docking stations. Before we can send someone to replace the laptops,we need to know exactly how the monitors are connected to each existing computers/docking stations. The monitor connections maybe VGA, DVI, HDMI or DP, I need to determine how each monitor is connected to the computer/docking station. This is so that I can ensure that the correct cables and monitors are sent to each location. We are using a 3rd party software to determine how monitors are connected to computers/docking stations. They use details collected from Windows to detect the monitor connection type and it works perfectly on all computers and docking stations. However, what we have noticed is that on the Ultra Dock no matter what monitor connection type (VGA, DVI, HDMI, or DP) is used, the Ultra dock always shows that they are connected via DisplayPort (DP). My questions are:Is this a known issue with Ultra docks? Is there a way to have the Ultra dock show the true monitor connection type? If so how can this be done?

I can get either monitor to work fine with the dock individually, but trying to run both simultaneously by extending or duplicating the desktop between them seems to fail as selecting either option under Display Settings just makes the primary monitor black out for a few seconds then come back - the secondary monitor stays black.  There's no error msg or popup that would help me investigate further unfortunately. I'm trying this with the T480's lid closed, and I'm running the latest 1.14 BIOS update and latest Intel HD graphics drivers. This setup worked fine on my old OneLink dock and X1 Carbon previously, so I don't think it's an issue with the monitors themselves. Anyone have a similar setup with the new Pro dock that's working?

The maximum resolution/refresh rate table for the Dock can be found here and shows that it is not possible via the Dock outputs as I understand. But is there another way? Perhaps by using the ThinkPads own video output and two of the Docks outputs? Or any othder idea? I have T570 and two same "thinkpad ultra dock" docking stations - one at the office and the other at home- with two monitors connected on each of them (DP & HDMI). At the office, I close the lid (2 screens) and at home I keep it opened (3-screen setup). A while ago it started flickering / blanking external monitors on *both* of them. Sometimes, when computer is left locked for some time (sleep is disabled!) external monitors are blanked and I can only revive them by removing + attaching the laptop to the dock again. I tried firmware updates on dock, driver updates on windows / lenovo... nothing helps. Windows 10, latest updates. I find it weird that two docks would go bad almost simultaneously. What else can I try - it is driving me crazy as I cannot work normally (sometimes it blinks like every minute or so but other times it is OK for more than an hour)?

Hi!After some days of use my new ThinkPad Hybrid USB-C with USB-A Dock (40AF) just gave me a black monitor screen on the Dispalyport 1 output. The HDMI port no.1 do give output OK. Tested the monitor's (LG 43UD79) displayport input against another laptop and its working just fine.Firmware of the dock is updated with latest version. And my Thinkpad L580 is also up to date with Win10. Any ideas?

Hello! Im having a little problem with my docking station. ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3. Seems like the DisplayPort does not work. I use dual 1440p monitors from Phillips and want to connect both with DP as the DVI is single-link only. I have one of the monitors plugged in the MiniDP on the side of T430 so i got that working wich is nice.  Is there some kind of firmware or something i need to install to get the DP working on the docking station? Cant remember i have ever done this and as far as i know it ha never worked... Always used it with a single 24" monitor with VGA. Thanks.

A:T430 with ThinkPad Mini dock series 3 DisplayPort ...

This issue is driving me crazy!  I bought new DisplayPort Monitors for T430s ThinkPads using the Mini Dock Series 3 dock.  I have 4 identical laptops.  Same software and drivers with two Monitors.  One on the Dock DisplayPort and the other Monitor on the PC Mini DisplayPort.   Three laptops work perfectly.  The forth one blinks! I do have a newer T430s with the Invidia Graphics card that has the same symptoms, but I have come to the conclusion that Lenovo does not support multiple monitors with that version.  Lenovo, Please tell me there is a firmware update for the Type 4337 Mini Dock Series 3 dock.  I saw the link for the T540 dock firmware update.  Will it work on the Series 3 dock?

I have a Lenovo Yoga 920. When I connect a single Dell Monitor through a USB-C to HDMI adapter from j5create, the screen appears to be the same as I swap monitors in and out. However, when I used a j5create adapter to plug two of the same Dell monitors in, they're is a visual difference between the two. I'm not familar enough to know if it's color/contrast/brightness/etc, but am confused as to why two of the exact same monitors would require me to set up a custom color profile to work. Shouldn't it be as straight foward as plugging the identical monitors in and expecting the same visual result between the two?

I'm trying (and failing) at driving four 1920x1080 monitors vai two DP 1.2 daisy chains. Three monitors show up as available. The fourth does not. Is this not possible? If I'm using both DP ports can I also use one of the HDMI or DVI ports to drive the fourth monitor instead of daisy chaining it? Setup: W550s (Model 20E2CTO1WW)ThinkPad 90W Ultra Dock One DP cable to a Dell U2414H-- then daisy changed to a Dell U2412M One DP cable to a another Dell U2414H-- also daisy chained to another Dell U2412M Both U2414H monitors have DP 1.2 enabled. Thanks,Sam
