32/64 bit questions & DirectX 9/10 questions :)

Q: 32/64 bit questions & DirectX 9/10 questions :)

Hey guys, just have a few questions in regards to Vista x32 vs x64 as well as Direct x10 issues when it comes to gaming.

First off - What benefits do I get by running Vista x64 as opposed to x32 when it comes to gaming. I bought Call of Duty 4 as well as Bioshock, and will be buying some of the new games coming out such as Assassin's Creed and Far Cry 2. Are any of these games 64 bit games?

Second off - Do I get any benefit playing a game made for DirectX 9 on a DirectX10 platform? Or are the graphic increases only visible in games actually made for DirectX 10? Again, are any of the games I listed above made to work with better graphics in DirectX 10?

Thanks guys!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I discovered your inquiry while I was attempting to answer questions similar to yours.

This isn't much help but try reading about Epic Game's 'Unreal' game engine. I'm reading the article on wikipeadia about this game engine. This is the game engine used for Gears of War and Unreal Tournament.

Any way, it seems that if your running the game in a 64-bit environment like Windows Vista 64 the game will be in 64-bit mode.

It uses Directx 10 and Directx 10 also seems to be in 64-bit mode depending on weather Windows is in 64-bit mode.

In related news, it seems that the 'Unreal' game engine and the 'Source' game engine (Used for Half life 2, etc) are optimized to take advantage of multi-threading or in other words optimized for multi-core processors.

Anyway, see what conclusions you come to...I'll post an update as I learn more.

Hi all experts out thereSo I own an HP 14 r015tx geared up with a Dual-Core Intel i5-4210U with 8GB of 1600MHz DDR3L dual-channeled memory, an NVIDIA GeForce 820M with 2GB of VRAM on 362.00 WHQL Driver and 4GB of shared VRAM, running on Windows 10 64-bit.On NVIDIA's DirectX 12 compatibility list, my 820M is listed with 12 API. But my dxdiag shows 11.3 and my NVIDIA Control Panel shows 12.0 runtime and 11_0 feature level.I read somewhere that Fermi architecture's DX12 driver is not yet available.First question: Is it really not available, or something else?Second question: Supposing my card's DX12 is not yet available (since I'm planning to play Quantum Break), can I make a Virtual Machine running Windows 10 with DirectX 12 implemented inside? (I mean having a virtual GPU which supports DirectX 12, like GTX series for example)Third question: When I install the NVIDIA driver using the one HP provided (ver. 353.86), the NVIDIA Control Panel shows Direct3D API 12.0 and 2GB of shared VRAM. When I install drivers from the GeForce experience and from NVIDIA's website (ver. 364.96), it shows Direct3D 11.2 and 4GB of shared VRAM. Can someone explain the differences and what is happening? (NB: HP's packed in 600MBs and NVIDIA's packed in 300MB download sizes)If there are differences, can someone provide me with the 364.96 one that is released by HP (not by NVIDIA) ?Sorry for the long question, thank you very much

1. Ran out of this space in my Q:Lenvovo - backup assigned partition.  14GB.  (My C: drive has 80GB free!) How can I fix this?  Is there a way to expand the partition without deleting it first?  Does Lenvovo or Microsoft or SSD manufacturer have a tool to do this where you just enter the amount you want to expand a partition to and it will adjust the other partition accordingly?  If not; I cannot delete the Q:Lenovo drive using file explorer or disk cleanup utility.  How do I remove at the original backup?  When I go to disk cleanup it shows blank the files; so it is a hidden file or subdirectory.  I even try signing on as System Administratin but forgot the password I created, it been so long ago and never use it.  LOL!   If I cannot do any of this:  There is an option to do a Windows 10 refresh but can you redirect it to a new SSD from the existing SSD? 2. I have a
HP Pavilion dv7t-1000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC
64bit with Windows Vista Home premium
Recently I had a friend take it and wipe it to start fresh.
when I got it back it is still pointing to a bizarre path..?? (which is one of the reasons I wanted to start fresh. It points to:

PATH
%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\Power2Go;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\

PATHEXT
.COM;.EXE;.BAT;.CMD;.VBS;.VBE;.JS;.JSE;.WSF;.WSH;.MSC

why would this be the case? When I got it back I see that some things like my extra monitor was already installed.. (Before I even hooked it up??) and some folders I had renamed example folder.OLD was still here. (and many other things that lead me to believe it did not get formatted correctly. (and could still have virus?)
He used my factory disks. (which I do have)
can anyone advise me on what is going on?
thanks so much!!

A:Environment Variables questions and format questions

I've had a bunch of HP machines. But I never used the restore. I'm not sure if it formats or just installs over what's there. It may leave files and folders that are in subfolders of programs that come bundled with the machine assuming it's data or something. The path looks fine to me. That %SystemRoot% stuff is just a way to use environment variables in case the system is not installed on C:\Windows.

If you really just want the OS and not the bundled software see the threads about ISO download for Vista. You can evaluate for 90 days perfectly legally. There are also tutorials how to extend the evaluation by 30 days.

Hello,

Brand new user.

a. The new PC came with McAfee anti virus.
Should I use it ?

Is it as good as AVG, e.g., which I used on my old W7 PC ? Use them both ?

b. And, how do I turn on the "Defender" anti virus which I understand is part of
the W10 package ?

Would it interfere with McAfee or AVG ? How good is it ?

c. How do I turn on the Firewall; I'm assuming there is one like in W7 ?

Much thanks,
Bob

A:New W10 User Questions (Basic Questions, Please)

McAfee, AVG and Defender are all anti-virus programs and you should only run one. In fact Defender will get turned off when another one is installed.

Right click the Start button and select Control Panel.

Then select Security and Maintenance and under Security it will show your the status of the Firewall, Virus and Spyware and which program is running what.

Control panel also has links to Defender and Firewall.

That McAfee is a trial version and at some point you will have to buy it.

Hey guys, you might of seen a post or two about me not able to get our domain to use GPO's, but its all fixed now. YAY !
(It was the DNS, incase anyone was interested)

but now i got a few questions, i'll start with:

1. Is there anyway to configure a client by just having them log onto the domain? e.g. Disable Security Center, Windows Messanger, Add a Registry hack. etc.

2. Is there anyway to view a list of all websites visited on the network with information, eg. Who was looking at it(which user), at what time. etc

3. Is there a way to record a list of all objects printed from our print server with information? e.g. User that printed it, time it was printed, how many pages, how many copys. etc.

4. Is there a way to delete start menu files/folders with a logon script?

5. I'm going to put "Deep Freeze" on the computers that are accessed and used by the public, but i've never used it, nor have any experience with it.
Does it cause any problems with normal operation of the computer? if anyone could give me some feedback on this, i'd love to hear it.

Also, is it possible to get more then just 6 Virtual Drives on a computer?

i mean, isn't there 23 possible drives?

I have a Packard Bell P133, model D135. Eight megs of
RAM are on the motherboard. According to a search of
this model on a 'Memory' website, this model has FPM non-
parity memory. The machine had two 4-MB modules installed
when it was new in 1996, for a total of 16 MB at time of purchase.
Since then, I have added two 8MB modules to bring it up to
32MB. Two weeks ago, I replaced the two 4MB modules with
two 32MB FPM modules, which was supposed to bring it up to a total of 88MB. When I boot up, it only reads slightly over 81MB as passed....of course, on the System Properties 'General' tab, 80MB is listed. Can anyone tell me what might have happened to the other 8MB?

Another question: Would parity memory be compatible with
non-parity memory? I know from research, that most servers use parity memory...parity being described as a feature of
a module for error-checking. Would parity memory work OK with non-parity, but not the other way around? The reason I ask is, I have an opportunity to buy some used 72-pin, FMP parity modules at a good price, and I just wanted to know if the two (parity and non-parity) would mesh. I wanted to bring it up to the max for this model....136MB, providing the 8MB on-board memory is read. That was my own theory about the missing 8MB....that the on-board memory, for some reason isn't being read. Any thoughts on this?

modules in one bank work with 60ns modules in another ... Read more

i'm building a gaming rig - this is nothing new to me, i've built 11 computers, the first in 1996 and then latest in 2008. however, i've never used RAID or liquid cooling, nor really taken the time to learn about these two technologies. i've got some basic idea as to how they work, and i've decided to use them to help squeeze maximum power out of this beast. these are probably pretty simple questions, but as some "stuff" is going on in my life and i just don't have time to google around for several hours, i figure i'll ask here.

first of all, i'll be using three RAID arrays. two of them are 2 SSDs in RAID 0 arrays, and one is 2 7200rpm 1tb WD drives in a RAID 1 array. all these drives are SATA 300. the eVGA X58 SLI Classified motherboard i'll be using has the intel ICH10R southbridge, which has onboard RAID control. from the bit i've gleaned so far, this "controller" can work with multiple arrays, but when it comes to actual performance with the arrays and the whole RAID shebang working properly it leaves a lot to be desired. money's no object, but PCI slots are - since i'd prefer to use true hardware RAID control, will i need to get three four-port RAID controllers (1 for each array) or can i run the 3 arrays off one controller? if i need to use three, what's a good brand that will be windows 7 compatible? and if i can use one, same question?

secondly, i've always wanted to try out li... Read more

Hi guys,

Just a quick question. With my G/B EP45-UD3P that I'm getting next week, and I'm also looking at getting Corsair Dominator 4GB 1066Mhz DDR2 RAM with it. However, the motherboard supports 1.8v RAM, and the dominator is 2.1v. I can change the voltage in the BIOS to support my RAM, and it would all be fine, right?

Also, currently my OS picks up the 4GB I currently have in my PC and says only 2.5GB is usable? I am running Windows 7 RC x64, and I read somewhere that my GC945 Chipset that I currently have limits to 3GB RAM, but why would it be at 2.5GB? Would it be because my XFX 9800GT is using 512MB Graphics? When I get my next motherboard (P45 Chipset), would this still occur?

Finally, I currently have 4GB 800Mhz G.Skill RAM installed. Would there be any noticeable difference between 800 and 1066Mhz?

Thanks

The default settings are adequate, especially if you are behind a router firewall. Setting up the Firewall for outbound connections;

Click Start, type wf.msc into the Search box,hit <Enter> = Windows Firewall with Advanced Security. Click Action > Properties and you'll be brought to a screen from which you can enable outbound filtering. You need to know the technical ins and outs in order to be able to set this up properly. I'll try to write what my mind thought of if I can put it into proper words. For background info: The computer I have now is the fastest one I have ever had and it is my first time ever having a SATA hard drive installed. This Compaq came with Win 7 Home Premium installed and a 500GB SATA hard drive. The thought occurred to me to pull the IDE hard drive (with XP Pro on it) from my old machine and put it in the Compaq. I used XP for a long time and to tell the truth, I kinda miss it and would like to use it occasionally. Can this be done easily? What can I expect to have to do? Thanks in advance for all replies.
If this crazy thought can't be done, then perhaps a partition can be done on my SATA hard drive and place a copy of XP there.

Hi guys,

First post in the forum, newbie here.

Basically I'm running 2gb of ram at the moment but I'm looking to upgrade to 64bit Windows 7 and I will be running a lot of memory expensive programs like photoshop, Unreal editor, maya, Virtools etc.
SO I want to have a bit more memory.

I've never upgraded my memory before, I have 2 x 1gb KVR800D2N5/1G (Kingston) DDR-2 Cards in already.

So my question is can I buy 2 more 1gb KVR800D2N5/1G to have it at 4gb or is it better to just buy a 4gb kit (2 x 2gb)?

Also Ive been looking and the 4gb kit is cheaper than buying 2 x 1gb could I have 3gb on each side making that 6gb? would that all be used on a 64bit OS? am I being excessive doing this?

feedback is appreciated...

Hello
I'm a bit of a lurker on this formum. I'm considering a new build and have a few questions about 64 bit CPUs. Currently I run a AMD 64 X2 4400+ on a ASUS A8N32 SLI Delux (nforce 4 i think). Anyhow This rig is about 4 years old and still performs well. Unfortuneately there is not much in the market for upgrades on the CPU. My mobo has the old AMD 939 socket. Sadly I built my rig and less than 6 months later AMD stopped making CPUs that used 939 sockets.

Anyhow I have been looking into getting an AMD FX-60, the fastest 939 chip they made, but the only ones I can find are used and selling for $150ish to $300. Hard to swallow when the Phenom II X4 965 black eddition is only $180.

So here is my quesion. When I purchased my last rig I was told that AMD 64 bit CPUs were better than Intels. The difference being that AMD 64 bit CPUs were true 64bits, whereas the intel chips were merely 64 bit capable. The difference being a dual core intel would be two 32 bit cpus working as basically 1 64 bit cpu, and an AMD dual core was two actual 64bit cpus.

Now 4 years later im looking to upgrade and I am wondering is this still true? I can't find a solid answer one way or the other.

I also was curious if anyone could tell me if the AMD Phenom II x4 965 is a 64 bit CPU or not? AMD used to put their little 'AMD 64' sticker on their boxes and website. Now they don't seem to as much. Also on their website it only says the Phenom II x4 is capable of running 6... Read more

I've recently discovered my router has QoS capabilities. However I'm unsure as to what I should enable, disable, add or edit. Below I'll attach a screenshot of my interface so to make better reference & understanding of the questions I need answered.

1: Should I check on Enable QoS (Optimized for Gaming) & what should I set its rate at?

2: Is there a way to change the priority of devices via Setup QoS rule?

In short my over-all goal is to have it set so my wired device & what I do has priority over wireless ones. Currently its the exact opposite which doesn't feel right. I have been hearing about the term VPN - for many years, I have also tried it for a couple of time with my iPhone. Seriously I want to know - What is VPN actually is?? Virtual Proxy Network ?? What's different of it from proxies??
What is the reason of using VPN?

I have some serious reasons to change my IP address so as to look like as someone else and to protect my computer information. Within the past two years my confidential information of two different credit cards had been stolen (while physical cards were never stolen or lost) . I almost always buy from websites that could be trusted totally, and I don't buy so often (once every two months on average) but the rate of such problems are considered to high (2 in 2 years)

Would VPN or anything like that help?

A:VPN questions

Vpn isnt a proxy it means you connect directly to another server which then connects to the internet all traffic between you and the server is secure, a proxy you connect but traffic is open and the proxy caches data for speed. People think they are hidden behind a vpn but they are not as recent cases were hackers have been convicted proves. The simplest option is to use tor browser as that goes via lots of servers all over the world its slower due to this but not traceable the same

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136351

Western Digital is also another very well known name for HDD's. It's 10$'s more, it's specs are the same, but I read it's not quite as fast as the Barracuda in some respects, but I also read about a variety of RAID issues with it, so much so it can cause the Drive to die!

What do I do? They're the only ones on Newegg with 1.5TB HDD's out, at great prices, but both listed as having serious flaws!

Thank you.

Hello,

Sr. Citizen now, and frankly not at all sharp with this stuff.
Would be most appreciative for any help.

Is it possible to have my PC receive FAX's, as it would regular e-mail ?

Or, do I have to purchase one of those FAX modems I read about, and utilize
our phone line ?

Obviously, I would like the first option to receive like a regular e-mail.
Is this possible ? Send as well as Receive possible ?

The e-mails, either receiving or sending would be very few and far between.
One or two per month probably.

If doable, detailed how-to would be very appreciated.

Also, is there a free, or very inexpensive, FAX program that I should use to do this ?

Much thanks,
Bob

A:FAX Questions, Please

I use Essential Fax software ($30.00) but there are cheaper ones. I have a internal fax modem. They run from $10 to $20. An external modem will be about $30.
Windows has fax software for free. I just didn't like it.
Another choice is on the net you can sign up for a fax service that they will deliver to your mail box. Not sure about the cost for that.

Sony laptop, Win7, HPrem, 32bit, 250GB HDD (according to specs)

Computer states 194GB free of avail 223GB. Is this the norm ? After custom install, I have no factory bloatware, no documents, have only added Chrome, CC Cleaner, Real Player, Adobe Flash, Reader. Is something hiding on my HDD ? Win 7 should only take about 16GB, right ?

- Also, during first custom install I deleted Vista. Can it be recovered ? The second time I did custom install, Win 7 upgrade did not recognize previous Windows and I had to call Microsoft for activiation key. Would like to avoid calling in the future.

In summary, how do you evaluate what is on your HDD other than the listed programs under Windows, etc.

I decided to do a fresh install of Windows 8.1 but got nervous about it so I decided to do a fresh install of Windows XP Home Premium on my other old laptop first. This was to gain a bit of experience and also to ensure I have a working PC in the event of a glitch in the fresh install of Windows 8.1 - just wanted to be sure I could continue to get work done in the interim if something went wrong. However, doing a fresh install of XP turned out more problematic than I thought, for the following reasons:
I had no CD - never did. Neither Compaq nor Circuit City gave me one. I lost the restore media (if I ever created it back in 2004 or so).
I spent a lot of time researching slipstreaming an install including all the service packs but could feel confident in none of the sources of the software on the web nor in my ability to properly follow the processes for slipstreaming
I spent a lot of time researching sources on the web for the straight XP OS (without the service packs) but none gained my trust
There is conflicting info out there about whether it is necessary to install SP1 and then SP2 before installing SP3
I finally decided the answer was that going straight to the SP3 service pack was the path I would try but could not find a trusted source of SP3
Microsoft site has SP3 on it but the web page includes statements intended to sca... Read more

allbenatt, thanks for sharing your experience!

There was a long running XP Topic where the OP, also with an HP computer, could have used your solution. Actually the way you installed, being it was to another partition, it was formatted prior to you taking this action, so it didn't really need it again. Too, all OS's requires some type of formatting of the partition to install, in this case it was likely NTFS. No, it wasn't the type of XP format that would take hours to complete on some larger drives, which was probably more secure of an erase than today's quick formatting, but one was one.

So how did the OS install process go? Install to the partition next to it? I'm curious about this, and may try it on my last XP computer just to see it in action. It's 60GB in size, but I could shrink the actual XP partition to 25GB or so, and there's a Recovery partition at the end. However, many doesn't have that, could have once been there, but was removed, tempting to some because in 2003/04, 40GB HDD's were the norm. Actually the one I have came with that size one, but I replaced it with a 60GB 7200 rpm one, the OEM one ran at 4200 rpm (or in that range).

That SP3 download of over 300MB, I've had that on CD since 2010. Anytime I install XP these days, seems like Windows Update won't connect w/out it (an error message will show). Installing SP3 fixes this. Though here as of late, haven't done much XP installing, other than some virtual machines for me t... Read more

hey guys, I'm new to the forums . I just have a question that's been on my mind.

1.) I've recently tried to play this one game, but it obviously had problems with my vista. The problem dealed with resolutions. Therefore, I had to change resolutions a LOT, resulting in my LCD going to that quick black screen when changing resolutions. So my question is: When the LCD monitor goes to this "black" stage, does it harm it? I've had to do this a lot because I wanted to get the game working, and now I'm noticing discrete horizontal lines stretching from whole screen.

*P.S. I just got this laptop a couple weeks ago, I probably had these lines back then, maybe I'm just getting adjusted to the screen and + noticing a lot more things about it.

Oh and also, I'm running on a laptop, if that information is useful at all.

Sorry for the long post, but thanks a lot to those who take the time to read

hello!

i have just installed Win7x64 (i know i am delayed a bit )

first, i have some questions:

1) it seems Win7x64 downloads every day updates and asks to reboot in order to finish installation, which is annying, can i set it to install only after i reboot manually?

2) can i set CTRL+ALT+DEL to just open Task Manager?

3) i connected a hd and i was not able to run exe's in it, etc
i wonder, if i have logged in as administrator, why it still requires for permissions, since they are set as 'full' for admin accounts?
anyway, i set full permissions for all users and that fixed the problem

4) i disabled index service manually, but how do i stop notifications 'your search may be slow' ? also, how do i detele the data of indexing service that are stored and are now useless?

5) i am not sure if i use AHCI, and if yes, if i use it for all my drives and any drives i add in the future
in my BIOS i last time have set manually to IDE
i also, no longer get the bios notification to enable AHCI when i start my pc
please advise

also, do you have any advice you can give me for my new OS ?

thanks!

A:some questions

1) Open Windows Update, go to Change settings on the left bar, and instead of "Install updates automatically", select "Download updates but let me choose when to install them". You will still need to install updates, but they won't automatically install and nag you to restart.
2) You can just use CTRL+SHIFT+ESC.
3) This is UAC (user account control) asking for permission. It is recommended that you do not disable it, but if you need to, go to Control Panel, User Accounts, Change user account control settings, and then disable it.

I know these are stupid questions but I'll ask them anyway. Why do I keep getting disconnected from my own local server and why when I try to reconnect it says my nickname is already in use even though I registered it? How can the other user halfway across the world maintain a stable 24/7 connection with my server while I can't stay connected for 2 minutes? I have a bot on my server (connected via localhost) that I use to re op me or invite me if I get uninvited to my own channel and things but it is still annoying having to do that every time this happens. Thank you for answering the questions!Edit: Moved topic from All Other Applications to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

I have two questions:

1. I currently have a functioning laptop with Win 7 64Bit. I also have a complete set of recovery discs as well as a system repair disc.

If I were to obtain another laptop could I use my discs and install my current Win 7 on the new laptop?

If so, then I could install a backup cloned HDD in the new laptop and have everything already set up as I prefer without customizing and installing all my software again.

This might also allow me to buy a laptop with Win 8 and replace it with my Win 7.

2. I have cloned my SSD onto an HDD using EaseToDo sotware. Can that HDD be used in another computer?

Only if it was the exact same pc. Or maybe even the same manufacturer, you`d have to experiment.

I just had two questions...

1. Does it matter if I press, and hold the power button to shut down my computer? Also would it matter if I was running a program during the forced shut down, such as a game?

2. Also I was wondering if it mattered how many times I shut down, and booted up my computer a day... If it matters if I boot it up, play on it for a few hours, shut it down for a few hours, than boot it up again, and repeat processes throughout the day.

Thanks in advance for answering these questions, despite how stupid they are, it still drives me crazy not knowing, and I would hate to do these stupid little things, that could end up damaging my computer. Thanks again.

A:Few Questions

Hello Rapth, and welcome to Seven Forums.

The shut down method you are using is called a hard shut down. It's not recommended to use that as a normal method to shut down you computer. It can cause disk fragmentation, corrupted files if they were being read/written to when you hard shut down, etc.... It's just hard on your system, HDD, and files to shut down this way.

Instead, it would be better to close all programs first, and use Shut Down in the Start Menu or a shortcut. It's not going to hurt anything to use the shut down I mentioned off and on throughout the day.

However, if you are constantly off and on the computer throughout the day, then you might consider putting the computer to Sleep instead to be able to bring the computer back up faster and use shut down at night when you go to bed or not using it for an extended period.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

As far as the 2012 goes, I know I can install it but does AVG allow you to upgrade to the current version while under valid subscription?  If so, would i install 2012 and then upgrade or would i install the latest version and use the 2012 key?

Is the 8.0 a lost cause (for XP and Vista) at this point or can I use the key with a more current version?

Since this is a current thread and I basically have the same types of concerns/questions as the thread-starter regarding the use of ADWCleaner, I am going to post here. Hope I'm not using too poor of board etiquette.

So, just real quickly, are these HKLM Chrome Extensions files/folders anything to worry about?  They seem odd to me because of the long and random looking letter suffixes. Should I delete these?

I'm just nervous after hearing about mals using fake Chrome extensions lately.

(Also, see question about third image below.)

The one that really threw me was this file called "END".  I found a few discussion links on it but nothing difinitive. Is it dangerous?  Should I remove it?

Thanks for any helpful thoughts!

Oh, and I am a Windows 8.1 user.

P.S. My machine checked out OK on Emsisoft, Norton IS, and MalwareBytes earlier today. Machine seems to be running great and is not showing any typical symptoms of infection.

The trick here is to Google the extensions name (these random strings of characters) and then see if they extensions are malicious or not. Since I'm lazy (or not really), I can do this for you, but I would ask you to provide me the AdwCleaner scan log, so I don't have to enter manually every extensions. Follow the instructions below to do so.AdwCleaner - Scan ModeDownload AdwCleaner and move it to your Desktop;Execute AdwCleaner, accept the EULA (I accept) then click on Scan;Credits : MalwareExperts.comLet the scan complete. Once it's done, click on the Report button to open the scan log;Please copy/paste the content of the output log in your next reply;

I am having recent firewall issues. I have noticed that my local machine was using port 17 & 6 a LOT, and I was getting warnings from my uverse router. I have gone into my norton, and shut down those two ports on my local machine, but it still looks like something is trying to ping my PC. I have run almost every malware program known to man, downloaded a ton from this (awesome!) website, and it isn't finding anything.

I am new to the formum. I have saved all of this in a .xls. I am hoping I can get it to an expert, they can take a look at it, and tell me if it is benign, or do I need to nuke my HD and rebuild.

One way to tell, Look at the image I attached anything Intel will show VEN_8086If it shows a different VEN_ number try the Broadcom one.I too have that model and that VEN but the intel installer from HP reports back no intel card. The little program from Piriform indicates no ethernet cards. Bios indicated the onboard ethernet is active and available to the OS. Perhaps I will try Ubuntu Live... but I do need XP. Any ideas?

First thing to do is make sure the Port is good.

Trying the Ubuntu Live should tell you if the Ethernet port is working or not.

Can you post the entire line that shows the Ven information.
For example one computer here shows PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1019&SUBSYS_02A71014&REV_00\4&2D894BD&0&0818

I'd like to see the whole line.
