Lenovo z510 sound hotkeys stopped working

Q: Lenovo z510 sound hotkeys stopped working

I've got z510 since 11 months. Yesterday my laptop turned off because of died battery problem (fixed). From that time my mute, volume up/down hotkeys aren't working. For sure keyboard isn't broken because my F1, F2, F3 keys via FN works fine.I've Windows 8.1 OS. I've tried also reinstalling Lenovo Evergy Mangament and Realtek HD Audio drivers with no effect. Thanks for help.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I've got z510 since Christmas and I've bought it as a plain PC.After installing Win 8.1 everything seemed fine, however the three sound-operating keys stopped working after few weeks. At first, they were sometimes working and sometimes not, but now they don't work at all. It's not a hardware fault, since usage of the F1 - F3 via the Fn key works allright. Thaks for help.

hi Diskopanda,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Just to verify, was the machine preloaded with Windows 8 and you upgraded to Windows 8.1 from the Microsoft Store?

If this is the case, there are limitations found during testing of Windows® 8.1 on supported Ideapad systems as per the Windows 8.1 Upgrade Guide by Lenovo and it's possible that there are incompatible Windows 8 softwares/drivers that caused the issue.

Things that you can try:
1. Press Windows key+R, type appwiz.cpl and press Enter. On the list of installed programs, look for Lenovo Energy Management and the Realtek Audio Driver (Windows 8 versions) and uninstall it (reboot if necessary).

2. Install the Realtek Audio Driver below for Windows 8.1 and observe if you can now mute, decrease and increase the volume using the   keys.

Ok, after trying many things to solve this issue, I turn to the community to try to help.I have a T420, i5-2520M, Windows 7 Pro, SP1, 64-bit. Everything was working fine until I switched off the wireless function using the manual switch on the right hand side of the laptop next to the DVD drive. When I switched it back on, the wireless network did not reactivate by itself. After waiting a little time, I hit Fn+F5 to see if it needed switching on via that control. The window came up with a message saying I needed to flick the manual switch back which I already done. I switched it off and back on anyway still with the F5 hotkey window open and nothing happened.I decided to try re-starting the laptop which brought the wireless network back on - except now the hotkeys, microphone mute, brightness controls etc won't work. The only hotkey that works is Fn+PgUp for the keyboard LED.I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Hotkey Features Integration software twice, once with the Lenovo Power Manager driver installed and once uninstalled. I've also reinstalled the Lenovo Power Manager but it makes no difference. The On Screen display works for Caps Lock, Volume and Mute.Would it have anything to do with the Windows Management Instrumentation (as it's listed as one of the dependencies)? I don't believe this has anything to do with my problem but I recently swapped the motherboard as my GPU was failing. The donor board has the same FRU. All installed fine, updated BIOS and ... Read more

Hi, I have a g500s laptop a few years now and I am using the official Conexant HD audio drivers. It has been a while now that my sound stop working after the log-in sound of Windows play. I tried re-installing the drivers but the same thing happens again. If i uninstall the Conexant HD drivers everything works fine but i don't like the quality of the sound (non HD). Recently I found out that when the sound stops, I just have to open the Speakers Properties window (from the tray icon or the Control Panel) and then the sound works again. Sometimes I have to do it again if the sound stops again. FYI the sound doesn't stop all of a sudden. For example if I am listening to some music the sound won't crush while playing. But if i don't use it constantly it might stop and I will have to re-open the Speakers Properties for it to work.Attached is a screenshot showing my sound drivers through the Device Manager.Thank you for your time.

Hello MArleoThanks for using the Lenovo forums.

Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)1. Turn the unit off2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter5. Turn the unit on as normal

If it doesn`t work, open it up again, make sure that there is no loose connections, it may be that one of the cables came loose when you put it back together again.

Hi friends. I am using Lenovo Ideapad 310-15IKB running on Windows 10 64-bit, Anniversary Update. Lately, I got a BIOS update through? Companion app which said "System is not UEFI", since I was using Legacy mode. So I converted my disc from MBR to GPT using AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional software. But after converting I noticed that some of the hotkeys like airplane mode, disable mic, disable camera, disable touchpad are not working (Disable toucpad did work, but the disabled icon wasn't displayed). So then I reverted back to Legacy mode using same software. But still it didn't work. I tried reinstalling all the drivers from the Lenovo support website. But still it didn't work. Is there any solution for this problem? Some keys like volume and brightness still work.

Hello, I have a HP Notebook PC - 15-r213ns (ENERGY STAR) with windows 8.1 Last night, after a windows update, the hotkeys for brightness (F2 and F3) the volume (F7 and F8), wifi (F12) and all the other ones have stopped working.  I can still change the brightness and volume through windows but i cant do it anymore using the keys. The functions keys do work, like F5 refresh or F3 browse. I have noticed that before i had to press the FN key for this and now it does it without the FN + Fx, so i suppose the windows update must have changed somthing here. They used to work fine before the update. I have re-installed the display drivers (NVIDIA G-FORCE 820-M) and looked for new drivers or updated drivers using HP Support asistant but everything is up to date. I was looking for hot key drivers in the HP drivers page for my product but couldnt find any keyboard, hotkeys related software or drivers. any suggestions? thanks in advance, Marco

Hi, Marco: The System Event Utility is supposed to get the Fn keys to work. Details: This package contains the HP System Event Utility for supported notebook models running a supported operating system. HP System Event Utility enables special function keys to be programmed. File name: sp70439.exe You can find this file under the Software - Solutions section of the driver page for your model.

Hello. I have a Lenovo G580 Notebook with Windows 10 installed. The issue is that the Windows hotkeys, that is Windows key and other letter combinations, aren't working. For example, normally, if I press Windows key + I, then the Settings app should open up or if I press Windows key + R, then Run should open up. But the Start screen opens up instead in all such cases.

This is happening since I have updated the Synaptics touchpad driver via Windows Update. If I uninstall the driver, then the hotkeys start working again. But as soon as I install the driver, they stop working. This was not happening with Windows 10 before, even when the Synaptics driver was installed. It has suddenly started happening couple of months ago. Also I cannot completely uninstall the Synaptics driver because my laptop came with it itself nor can I stop the driver from updating as it is an important driver and it needs to be updated to be compatible with Windows 10.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

If you PM me your email address I will send you a link to the Synaptics driver that works for me. Then you will have to use the HideUpdate hotfix to keep Windows update from changing it.

I went into device manager and the usb ports don't show up anymore under the Universal Serial Bus controller tree. The only device that stills works, thankfully, is the charger which plugs into the special usb port. If anyone knows a solution i would be grateful, thank you.

Hi Kwstas_chris,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issues with microphone not working on your Lenovo  G50-75 laptop.

Go to Control Panel, click on Hardware and Sound Click on Sound then you devices should come up ; speakers, Digital Audio, and headphones plug your headphones in, then select headphones at the bottom and select set as default option !! then when you disconnect your headphones it automatically switches to the speakers and when you plug them back in it automatically will switch to headphones!!

Hope this helps. Do post back if the issue persists!

Best regards,

A:Lenovo Y50-70 USB 3.0 ports stopped working suddenly

hi haemming,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. Boot into the BIOS by continuously tapping F2 on boot-up. Once in the BIOS, hit F9 to load factory default settings then hit F10 to save and exit (this reloads the hardware configuration of the machine). Once inside Windows, uninstall the USB 3,0 driver (Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus Controllers) then scan for hardware changes.

When the USB device comes back, try to test your phone or any USB device (e.g., USB mouse, flashdrive, etc.) and observe.

2. If same problem, try to power down the machine > press the OneKey Recovery button > select System Recovery and test if the mouse will work on the USB 3.0 port
 - Sample image

Alternatively, you can also hold the Shift key then restart Windows and observe if the USB mouse will work on the Windows 8 Advanced Options.

If none of the above method works then I recommend you contact the lenovo helpdesk and report your findings as the USB 3.0 port is definitely malfunctioning and requires service.

Let me know how it goes..

Hi there, Sohailur                    -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Just found the same problem with my lenovo Z50. Touch pad completely non responsive.

Under start menu, settings, devices, mouse & touchpad, additional mouse options, elan tab. The elan touchpad settings were completely grayed out and unavailable.

So from there I went to the window search in the task bar and typed in "computer management? and opened the computer management desktop app. Under device manager selected mice and other pointing devices and then elan input device. In the elan properties window that opened I selected uninstall to uninstall the driver and in the next box that opened warning that the driver was about to be uninstalled l checked the delete driver and then OK. Then restarted windows. In the process of restarting windows detected the elan touchpad as a new device and installed the driver in time for the login screen. So my elan touch pad is now working again.

Hello, I was very happy to receive my new Lenovo T460s 6 weeks ago and immediately installed Windows 10 which worked flawless from the first try.I set up Windows Hello using fingerprints of the whole family and it worked great. This week I realized that fingerprint sign-in stopped working, saying "Windows Hello isn't available on this device". So I started my search through the web and did:- Uninstalled the Synaptic WBDI device (several times)- Updated the driver for the Synaptic WBDI to the latest version 5.1.311.26 (several times)- Installed all Windows Updates- Searched the whole registry for "Hello" and "fingerprint"- Finally did a "reset" of windows keeping my files None of the above helped. There is no Lenovo fingerprint tool installed, PIN correctly configured and I tried all possible "solutions" proposed on the web... The Synaptic WBDI device seems to run fine, which makes me think that it's not the HW itself. So my questions:- How can I check that the Fingerprint reader is working?- How can I get Windows Hello back to regular operation? Thank you very much and best regards,Werner

Usually it takes a couple of hours each time to get it working again but im getting annoyed that this is a requrring problem. (general things ive done is make sure the HDMI ports on tv works, changed hdmi cable, changed computer ect to verify its a problem with the V110)Generally the HDMI port stops working after either windows updates, or software installs, however this time it did not work to roll back any updates or uninstall any programs. Ive disabeled and re-enabled graphics drivers, updated graphics drivers, rolled back a windows sequrity update that came into play 13th/14th of sep. 2017.Nothing shows up under display adapter in device manager, and ive tried many of the suggestion fixes on different forum posts to no solution.I'm fresh out of ideas. I've tried restarting my computer to no avail and it seems that the Fn key doesn't work either. I'm not sure if it's a driver issue or something with the hardware. I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Z510. I got it around 3 years ago, and this year, I realized that it has been running quite slow, or slower than usual. Whenever I open a chrome tab, it would take around a minute to set it up and would lag a little when I open up multiple tabs.  This is the specs of my computer.http://tech.firstpost.com/product/laptops/ideapad-z510-59-387061-specification-348262.html So, I was wondering, if I were to add more ram to my computer, would it fix this problem? Would my computer speed up and will respond/act faster? I know that I have 4 GB DDR3 right now, 2 GB that is shared with the graphics card and my task manager says that I have only used 1 out of 4 slots. Does this mean that I have another 3 empty slots that can be filled with ram? Also, is there a maximum amount of ram my computer can handle? I have seen some people ask about it but have no idea about it. So, my real question, would it be possible to add 8 GB of ram? This means that I would have a total of 12 GB ram, and would most likely have 4GB, 4GB, 4GB of ram, 3 slots taken out of 4. If I have 4 slots. But if I have 2 slots, then could I add an 8GB ram, and would have 4GB and 8GB, still totaling up to 12GB?

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Z510. I got it around 3 years ago, and this year, I realized that it has been running quite slow, or slower than usual. Whenever I open a chrome tab, it would take around a minute to set it up and would lag a little when I open up multiple tabs.  This is the specs of my computer.http://tech.firstpost.com/product/laptops/ideapad-z510-59-387061-specification-348262.html So, I was wondering, if I were to add more ram to my computer, would it fix this problem? Would my computer speed up and will respond/act faster? A:Lenovo Z510! ABOUT RAM

Hi fwachee,

Welcome to the COmmunity Forums.

Yes you can add 8GB ram to your current 4GB for a total of 12 GB.

As per specification from your hardware manual (page 27):
 DDR3-1600/1333MHz SODIMM × 2 (max 16 GB)

Two slot are physically available if you would open it up for confirmation as shown below.

This would definitely improve speed and memory utilization of your machine specially with multiple browser and virtual machine apps.

Hope this help answer your query.

Regards

A few days ago, my Lenovo Ideapad 510S keyboard backlight stopped working. Formerly, pressing Fn-Space switched the keyboard light on and off. Now the computer does not respond to Fn-Space. I am running Windows 10 . I reinstalled the energy/power management driver from the Lenovo Homepage as advised in a similar post but it didn't help. Please help. CheersAkash
