Suddenly, Adwcleaner per Windows 8.1 wrong type?

Q: Suddenly, Adwcleaner per Windows 8.1 wrong type?

I have Windows 8.1. My programs are now are exceedingly slow and Chrome won't do anything after opening. (I'm renting this hp Pavillion 20 All in one., but it's my SSD and OS). I uninstalled Norton suite (because of slowness) and wanted to use Adwcleaner per usual and the "smart" screen bar says it's not for Windows 8.1 and to contact the maker. I've never had an issue using it in the past.

Also, tried to reinstall Norton 360 Suite X2, after using the norton uninstaller,  but at the very end it spins and never finishes installation.  Used Symantic Erasure (with support) but without any significant results.  So I put in Iobit antimalware 3.0 and the latest Zone Alarm firewall. Any thoughts? All clear from the Iobit scan.

This is odd, but please don't bother with detailed advise about virus removal,I'll re image soon after I give this slow rental back)  But, I'd still like to use Adwcleaner. Hm. Thanks if anyone can give me an idea of what's happening. Erasure did the rootkit check too.   Rob

Preferred Solution: Suddenly, Adwcleaner per Windows 8.1 wrong type?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Suddenly, Adwcleaner per Windows 8.1 wrong type?

Hi Rob,From what I know, AdwCleaner is compatible with Windows 8.1. You can temporary disable SmartScreen if you need to run AdwCleaner. And also one piece of advice from me: Don't use IOBit products.Personally, I do not trust any company that creates so-called "optimization" products, bundles unwanted software into their installations and not allowing users to opt out, and stole intellectual property from other companies - in this case, database signatures from Malwarebytes Corporation.I recommend that you uninstall IOBit Malware Fighter and use a reputable AV software, along with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware or Emsisoft Anti-Malware for additional AM protection.Regards,Alex

This one is a new one on me but am sure there is going to be someone out there that has come across this... I have several HDD's in my systems, after receiving recent updates recently I noticed my boot drive on one of them starting to clunk & squeal a bit, I thought as the drive was quite old, and was only meant as a temporary measure anyway it was time to bin it, so I attempted to back up the drive - as you might expect with a failing drive it wasnt successful, after powering down and checking to see what was being reported in the bios I noticed the drives weren't displaying their correct model designations, so powering down and removing all the drives bar the suspect one and powering back up and re entering the bios, the drive then reported correctly and was able to successfully boot into windows - now for the strange bit, after checking the drives properties in the device manager I noticed it was being reported as a Seagate ST3000DM001 drive, the problem is this is an old western digital WD500AAKS caviar drive, I cant mistaken this one as its sat on the top of the case with the cables hanging out of it, I used this old drive on purpose as I didnt want to drop this OS on a SSD until I was sure it was stable. the OS was a fresh install to this drive, and as you might expect, during the initial installation and testing phase it was the only drive on the system, the other drives werent added until later, and have been trouble free until this last update, has anyo... I've been doing a lot of tidying up of my file types and associations, and one of the things that I have done is to ensure that all my most used file types have meaningful and accurate "friendly names". So, instead Explorer referring to .wv files as "WV File" it now says "WavPack Audio File". I've done this for numerous file types and it has all worked well and is correctly displayed in Explorer.

However, I also use Windows Libraries, and for some reason it is still using generic file descriptions, or older ones that I chose myself and subsequently updated.

I have done the usual things of clearing the icon cache and all other cache and temp storage. I've also completely rebuilt the index of the Library in question. I have even removed all folders from that library and deleted the top level library itself (then, after a reboot, recreated it by selecting 'Restore Default Libraries'), but as soon as I add my folder to the Library, the same old file names show up again.

I have done a thorough search of my Registry and some of the terms being displayed by the Library are nowhere to be found in the Registry (because I have updated every possible instance of the file type name) so it must be cached somewhere, unless its buried in some indecipherable format in the Registry that doesn't show up in search results.

If I click an incorrectly named 'file types' group in the Library, and then choose 'Open Folder Location' to look at the same files direct... Read more

A:Windows Explorer "Libraries" displaying wrong File Type names

This could have something to do with your user files. Are you the Administrator of this computer & do you only have one user account?.

Click on Computer & then click on your main OS drive which is normally C:\, then click Users, which should show your user name as one of the folders. Click on that & select your Documents files & see if the new names are listed there, if so you can create a New Library by clicking on Include in Library, from the menu at the top, & selecting Create New Library.

If all the Documents are correct as mentioned above you could copy all the Documents into the New library & then after checking everything is correct you can delete the old library.

If you have more that one user account, it's possible that all the changes are being made on one account & you are then trying to access them on another account, so you keep getting the old arrangement.

Problem partially solved. Still have no clue as to why I could not type into form fields, even logons, google ... but a simple re-boot and now I can enter text into form fields. However, sporadically I lose control of positioning - sometimes the arrows stop working, and sometimes I cannot change position in the form by moving the cursor. What is going on?

Hello, and thanks in advance for any help.

My problem is this, I have a dell XPS that I bought two years ago or so, running windows 7. Not too long ago, it started crashing at apparently random times, bringing me to a blue screen of death (I do not know what the specific blue screen message was). It would start up again fine, usually. Before I had the time or patience to sitting down and remedying this, it seemed to crash for good. I received a blue screen I'd death, it shut down, and when I turned it back on, it immediately took me to a screen with a blue box asking for a "system password". Not only did I not set a system password, but the computer does not appear to be registering my mouse or keyboard at all, and I have tried several of each in various USB ports. So, are there any suggestions in how to go about repairing this? Data recovery is not a priority, so much as getting the computer running again. Is there hardware I should replace?

I've recently bought a new WD 1TB HDD to replace my (really) old Samsung 500GB HDD. I created a system image, then unplugged the old HDD, plugged in the new one and put in the win7 installation disk. I went to restore it from a system image, however, it said something along the lines of not being able to restore because it's EFI and not BIOS? The BIOS itself then went and died, and by this I mean literally only the BIOS clock worked, everything else was pixelated and would not interact with my curosr, so I flashed it and it's now working again, i.e. I'm back at stage one. The system image was created on a Simple NTFS volume, which I created myself as the HDD came completely formatted, not partitions or volumes or anything. I'm really hoping this is an error on my part and not a hardware failure, but we'll see what happens. Don't hesitate to contact me if you need any more information or if the information I've given is too vague. Thanks in advance.

EDIT:
I don't plan on using the old HDD once I've got everything transferred to the new one. There's nothing wrong with it, it's just 20GB away from being full and horribly slow.

A:Wrong system image type?

It is most likely not hardware failure because your new HDD is likely formatted with GPT. You should try copying the data off of the old HDD.

Wrong characters have just sprouted in some places. Things like ť instead of ?, for instance.

I've spotted them in two places only : comments included in Properties of Macrium Reflect backup files, and one blog I follow regularly through Firefox.

That's the reason I suspect it's Windows-related and not a Macrium problem. It happened suddenly with no obvious trigger beforehand. It's the sort of bad transcription which often happens in emails.

Now the same blog displays correctly again. Any ideas ?

I don't know what has happened to my computer, but suddenly it has a ''mind of its own'' and pretends that I have typed in a shortcut when I haven't.

These are:
When I type 1 on the keyboard, not numeric pad it refreshes the page in firefox and makes it hard to type emails, typing 1 in Word 2007 causes it to open a Go to search window when all I wanted was to actually type one.
The biggest problem is when I type z, just the letter, no other keys, it acts as if it was Z and CTRL pressed, but I havenít pressed CTRL at all. Things are deleted randomly after typing suddenly, it often goes back as much as the last paragraph, too.

What Iíve done to attempt to fix it:
Disabled sticky keys and filter keys in Windows 7
Run various antivirus software, like Avast, Malwarebytes, Superantispyware and these donít come up with anything or just show a list of harmless cookies.
I have manually cleaned the keyboard so there are no stuck keys. The keyboard is not USB, it is the PS/2 port(round port) type.
I donít have any restore points past 7th Feb 2014 and already tried to restore to 7th feb, same , the problem remains.
Keyboard testing software, both freeware and non-free show that when I press Z, the keyboard acts like it CTRL+Z pressed, when I press 1, test shows F5 has been pressed when I havenít.
Please help me! I can buy a new keyboard if it is just a hardware issue but I feel it is not.

I've puttered around in my fonts settings -- clear text is turned on, I've changed settings and restarted, I checked my graphics card driver, checked my monitor settings, checked my browser settings... everything is right and tight, what's supposed to be turned on is turned on, etc. In fact, any changes I noodle about with just make it worse (i.e. fiddling with the browser font settings).

Attached is a picture of what google looks like in this brave new world:

I can't screenshot my excel or word docs because of the info contained therein, but they're just as bad or worse than that google screenshot. I have such a headache from looking at the screen and I have no clue what's going on.

Okay, I can't figure this one out and I've searched through 16 pages of google results. I've found that a lot of people have had this same problem, but in almost every instance, there were no responses on how to solve it exactly.

When I sign on windows with the right password, it works just fine and everything loads up. However, when I happen to type out my massive password wrong the following error comes up:

MCI Command Handling Window: winlogon.exe
The instruction at 0x0179116e reference memory at 0x0070ffff. The memory could not be read.

I'm running XPPro. I recently reformatted my entire PC and I've never had this happen before reinstalling XP. I don't know what specifically the error stems from cause I installed so much stuff in one day. It was all the same stuff I've had on the PC before. Other accounts across the net, however, did NOT also reformat, so I'm thinking it must be something to do with a virus or some error in SP2 or windows update. I've done a virus scan and found nothing.

But anyway, any information on how to fix this would be great because I really don't wanna have to reinstall everything again to fix such an insiginifcant error. It's enough to strike a chord with my perfectionist tendencies though.

Edit: I should also add this.. If I logon with the correct password and then log off and log back on with the wrong password this error does not happen. In other words, this error only happens if the ... Read more

Hello James,

By default, folder views are a per folder setting, and will be the same as when last closed per folder.

In a library, the folder view is shared between all included folders in the library.

If you like, you could use the method in the tutorial below to set a default folder view for all folders.
Folder Template - Set Default for All Folders in Windows 8
Afterwards, open File Explorer, maximize it to full screen, and close File Explorer. Each time you open File Explorer it should now open full screen as it was last closed.

Hope this helps,

Hello, I have a Lenovo YOGA 510-14AST with windows 10. When I used my laptop today, out of nowhere, there were three big issues. First, it could not see any WiFi. My first thought was my Wireless card had been turned off, but it was listed on device manager as both connected and enabled. I have tried uninstalling the card and reinstalling it and no change occurred. Secondly, my Bluetooth adapter has disappeared from the list of devices on my laptop. Finally, devices plugged in by USB are not recognised as having connected, although if I plug my phone it does charge but is again not recognised by the laptop. I realise this is a strange happening.
P.S. I have run a full scan on my antivirus software and it found nothing.

Dear people,

I experience an odd problem with my PC.

Tonight i started my PC.
I opened some programs.
Then i worked for awhile in a program and suddenly, a message pops, asking me to close all open programs, with the intention to shutdown my PC.

So i did that, then started my PC up again, opened some programs and within a minute, the same message.

Now at the moment, it's quite hot in the room where my PC stands.
But i have a reasonable good and big CPU fan placed above the CPU and CPU is running at stock rate, no OC.
But could it be though, that the computer is overheating and therefore wants to shut down ?
Or is something else going on ?

I am running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, SP1.

Best,

Rob.

A:Suddenly asking to shut all programs down. What can be wrong ?

Yes it can be a temp problem.
Monitor your temps.
Inspect the inside of your computer to make sure all fans are clean and running.
I highly recommend installing a anti virus program.
A infection can also be causing many problems. One off the top of my head would be maxing out your cpu and causing over heating.

If you need help checking your system for infection please ask.

This is a copy of an email i sent to Creative, the maker of my modem. It may sound weird because it is directed at them.

I own a Creative Modem Blaster External. I

uninstalling one or both of them and reinstalling
did not fix the problem. This is running windows

of the modems listed (even though i only have 1)
would work and I had to reinstall both drivers
every time. One time, it finally only installed
one driver, but when I tried to connect to my
ISP, it would get to the "verifying user name and
password" stage, it would disconnect and give me
a message stating that it was using the wrong
server type setting. PPP is the only type that
will connect to the internet, which it was using,
and I have never run into this error with the old
modem on my PC, or with the Modem Blaster

my PC to Windows Me, and the same problem
exists. All modems/PCs connected to the same
ISP, so I know this is not the fault of my PC or

Hi,
Does anyone know how to force OneDrive to set up an account as a OneDrive for Business Account, rather than a OneDrive Personal Account?
I received an email link to a OneDrive for Business Sharepoint site, that I had been added to with my
Business email address as an External User.
The PC I am using:

Is my home machineSigns in with a Microsoft Account, that is my Personal email AddressHas OneDrive - Personal drive attached (ie Sync'ing my personal cloud storage to the account & visible in File Explorer)

I tried to use the OneDrive for Business (OfB) invitation to open the link in the email & connect it to my home PC using the Business email address (log in to site & click "Sync" on tool bar). This required me to create a Microsoft Account.

However, the set up process has defaulted my Business email log in to a
PERSONAL account; when I log in online via browser, I see the usual Personal Drive & not the business drive I had received the invite to.
So, now my business email address is defined as a Microsoft Personal Account & means I can't link to the OneDrive for Business Site.

I thought that as my Private email (aka my MS account) has an Office 365 Home License, this could be the issue. BUT, the person that sent the invite signed in via browser on my PC & we could successfully Sync the OfB site on my PC, as another drive in
File Explorer.

I CAN successfully access the OfB site via browser using MY business Address

1) My 2 year old ACER Aspire 5 keyboard just stop working in a couple of capacities. First, the numbers on the 10 key wouldn't type at all. Checked Num Lock, fine, then tried to type numbers at top of keyboard, well, some typed the right number but most didn't or typed more than one number.

2) Ran Webroot Anti-spyware and Anti-Virus, clean. Then I shook my computer to see if any crumbs or foreign materials were throwing something off, clean. Took out battery, nada.

3) Restored computer to the day before any problems. Changed nothing. Pressed every key to see if something was stuck or key broken. None.

4) The Delete, Backspace, Enter and Space Bar do NOT work at all. So basically, the entire keyboard is not working due to something. If I type any one key, some of them type what I wanted but continue to type the letter or number until I log out of my Google Engine.

5) I have always had issues with the keyboard. I will be typing along and the cursor will randomly go back to previous sentences and start typing what I am currently typing. It is so annoying. Why is it hopping all over the place?

6) A computer major friend who teaches computer classes said to write to Google and maybe I would find others with similar problems. I found several "sticky keys" problems but none on point with none of the keys working or working properly. He suggested perhaps a Trojan Horse virus but my sweeps come up clean...

7) Can anyone help me???

Thank you,
Shawnascy

A:Laptop keys stopped working and some type the wrong thing...

It could be a virus. But It also could just be your keyboard is bad. You may need to take it to your local repair shop if it. Is a laptop and have them check the keyboard out for you. I really do not think it is a virus.

XP SP3 When I slide my sensor over a photo image icon the following info is shown:
Dimensions of image, Date image taken, Camera model, Type, and Size in Mb. My problem is the "type" shown - it is always Jasc After Shot Picture. This is INCORRECT as Jasc Afte Shot program was uninstalled 2 years ago when I installed Adobe Lightroom. Where is this coming from and how do I remove this erroneous information from the description of all of my images? Please, if you can help, give me step by step - I'm old and computer challenged!

Not sure if this is a MS issue. Default zoom setting for Edge is 125% but Outlook email is suddenly really tiny in size despite Edge showing 125%. The right hand 30% of the screen is now just empty white space. If I change it to 100% and back to 125% then it corrects until I close and reopen Edge. No other tabs are affected.

I usually like to leave my computer on overnight. So I go offline, disable my wireless, and put on a video playlist in full screen to help me sleep. Anyway, today I woke up and saw the Windows Media Player no longer full screen, and the wireless switch was actually turned on. This is strange because I know I turned wireless off and I frequently check my system with Malwarebytes.

What could this be? Did someone snoop in my computer? Thanks in advance for the support.

In an attempt to clean up a Dell Inspiron 1150, i ran AdwCleaner that i had downloaded through BleepingComputer. i didn't run AdwCleaner as an administrator though .. i forgot. AdwCleaner ran the scan & when the AdwCleaner was done i clicked Clean. After that the computer asked me to reboot. i clicked ok & when the computer restarted only the Dell logo appeared for a few seconds. During these seconds it said in the upper right Press F2 for BIOS & Press F12 for Boot Menu. After these few seconds then screen goes blank except for blinking underscore in left corner of screen. Any suggestions sure would be helpful. Thank you for your time.

A:Windows won't run after AdwCleaner reboot

Can you boot to Safe Mode ?

If so, run Rkill and then Malwarebytes with NO reboot inbetween the two scans....If malwarebytes asks for a reboot that is ok....do so.

Please download RKill by Grinler from the link below and save it to your desktop.

Double-click on Rkill on your desktop to run it. (If you are using Windows Vista, please right-click on it and select Run As Administrator)
A black screen will appear and then disappear. Please do not worry, that is normal. This means that the tool has been successfully executed.
If nothing happens or if the tool does not run, please let me know in your next reply.
A log pops up at the end of the run. This log file is located at C:\rkill.log.

Please activate Debug Mode as follows so we can see a report which may be helpful with identifying the problem.Double-click on AdwCleaner.exe to open the tool.Click on Options in the top menu.Put a check mark next to Activate debug mode.Click on the Scan button.A logfile report called AdwCleaner_dbg_XXXX.log (where XXXX represents the time run) will be created and saved to %systemdrive%\AdwCleaner folder (usually C:\AdwCleaner).Copy and paste the contents of AdwCleaner_dbg_XXXX.log in your next reply.

Hello I hope you will be able to help me with this.
I ran ADWCleaner on a Windows XP SP3 machine and after the clean process it asked to restart the PC to complete but now XP does not start. It gets as far as the second (higher def) Windows xp startup screen and then just hangs with occasional HDD accesses and a responsive mouse pointer. It does the same in any of the safe modes and from the Last Known Good Config option.
So far I have ran chkdsk from the XP Recovery Console , it found some errors but that has not fixed the problem.
I have looked in system~1\_resto~1 directory and found there are no restore point directories listed.
I was about to try a manual registry restore but have found that there is no SYSTEM file in system32\config\ though there is a system.bak file
That is as far as I have got so far. Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm not the most computer savy person out there, so I've been struggling a bit with my laptop lately. (It's slowed down, particularly where internet is concerned.) Earlier today I encountered a problem where my laptop seemed to recognize mouse clicks where there were none, no matter how cuatious I was to make sure I wasn't accidentally hitting anything. I ran a scan with Norton, which only cleared a few tracking cookies, then tested AdwCleaner, which came up with this:

According to the only person I know who's taken the time to learn anything about computers beyond how to use them for entertainment and google, I shouldn't mess with anything in my registry. But when I ran a search of those first two items (which looked weird compared to the others) I came up with results about malware that takes bank info.

Should I let AdwCleaner take care of it? I don't want to screw up my laptop any further. I've also seen a few posts about malware that comes back easily, so would AdwCleaner be enough?

Hello, and I hope we can help. Those items are "generally" accepted as bad minor infections, and can be removed. Please download these to desktop, and Copy and Paste any logs. First - This is a "basic clean-up" and we will go further depending on your answers. Please download and run RKill by Grinler. A black DOS box will appear for a short time and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully. At most the tool will usually run for about 2 minutes Please Copy / Paste the small log back here. Important: Do not reboot your computer until you complete the next step. * NOW :* Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop. * Double-click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool. * Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator. * Click on the Scan button, only once for a good report * AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete. * After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.* Check the removals and see if you are OK with the list. You can always Copy and Paste the SCAN log here if you wish -* Now * Click on the Clean button, only once for a good log. * Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts. * Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process. * After...
