norton antivirus dll problem linked with roxio dll problem. really wierd problem.

Q: norton antivirus dll problem linked with roxio dll problem. really wierd problem.

i load up my machine as per usual and norton antivirus cannot load up at startup because it says i have a corrupted or missing ccimscan.dll and defalert.dll.

norton seems to be ****ed up and symantec webapage has no solution, which also has coincided with my roxio cd buring version 5 basic. roxio doesn't load up at all, and also in windows media player 9, i cannot burn cd's as it says the roxio burining engine is not there and or the directcdbf.dll is missing.

i performed scandisk and all that shite and on that programme in windows where it tells you if you need to replace files ( can't remember its name). anyway the files that are corrupted are uneng.exe (which i found out is the roxio burn engine unistall programme???) and the tntlvr.dll is corrupted too. don't know what this tnt thing is but i am assuming its my tnt2 graphics card???, but it isnt showing any problems.

i have adaware and regulary use it, and hijack this only workd using the old version so i will post the log file thing here. i am totally confussed as all this happened out of the blue the other day. thanks in adavance. please help me

Preferred Solution: norton antivirus dll problem linked with roxio dll problem. really wierd problem.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have been having some issues with my fairly new PC lately (7 months). I came up with a few solutions to it, but I would like some suggestions.
Stage 1-Firefox Acts Weird
I knew it by then that I got the classic-seth.avazutracking.net. This part my Internet worked fine, but: there were install Flash to continue warnings EVERYWHERE. I don't go anywhere suspicious. I know my safe sites; I know my tech. You know, YouTube, Google, Comcast.net, an occasional game at Newgrounds, things like that.
Despite not clicking on any of them, I got the virus. I evaded the popups by the Tab Close, but it did something.
Stage 2-Norton Acts Up
Norton gave me an error upon starting. 8504,100 I believe. Suspicious.
Stage 3-Internet Refusing To Work On Either Browser.
I noticed that my Internet refused to work. I unconnected the wireless to make sure it wasn't interfering with the wirein, and vice versa. I rebooted twice. No solution. In fact, I'm using my iPhone to type this.

Possible Solutions
1-Retrieve my Linux laptop and get some Norton Fixer and Cleaner. Save on to the USB drive and go from there.
2-Same thing as 1, but with Windows Safe Mode.

Any other solutions or thoughts?
"If at first you don't succeed, you fail. And the test will be terminated.

alright i was given a cd by a friend of a friend, and it was getting passed around as Norton Antivirus 2005. So i decided to be an idiot and try it out to upgrade my 2004. The installation went fine i thought, but after restarting a window saying my msi didn't execute the setup or something to that nature. i continued to reboot, and then norton wasn't even on my computer. I then noticed that little things on internet explorer seemed to have messed up. I can't login to my hotmail account anymore, nothing happens when i press the sign in button on another account, and on a couple of other sites the login buttons have disappeared completely, makin it impossible for me to view anything under internet explorer. I downloaded mozilla and it works fine with everything showing up. Also whatever this is has infested my search function on the start toolbar. Instead of everything showing up in the window, all that shows up is a little animated dog that says search companion, there isn't even a title on the window, its blank. I need major help people! i need to get rid of this somehow and virus scans aren't picking it up. HELP ME PLEASE IN ANY WAY

Hi, I have had Norton for some years with no problems until I installed 2007. Now the Norton icon only appears every third or fourth time I start my PC. I gather when it does not appear, it's running (very slowly) in the background, because when I turn off PC, I get an error message CC alert, which I have to 'end task' before I can close down. Also when this happens, I cannot open Norton from the desktop or from programs.

I'm using Norton Antivirus as a part of Norton Systemworks 2003 in Windows XP Pro and would appreciate some advice on a problems I'm having.

The last few weeks I haven't been able to complete a virus scan because Norton gets stuck on a certain folder and puts loads of backslashes on the end of it.

For example it might say it's scanning something like this:

C:\Documents and Settings\Joe\My Documents\Folder Name\Folder Name\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

It'll then get stuck on this folder with all the slashes and not do anymore. I tried deleting the folder it was getting stuck on once and it just got stuck on another folder with all the backslashes as above.

Please could someone suggest what I should do to correct the problem?

When I run Norton Live Update it says that all my definitions are current.

When I run the NAV it always says that my definitions are NOT up to date.

Anyone know how to fix this?

A:Norton Antivirus Problem

Try the Intelligent Updater option on the NAV site (latest definitions yesterday);http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/

If that updates successfully, you may have a problem with the Live Update part of your program. Have you updated it recently?. If not, try an update and see if it helps;http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/files/lu/lu.html (Note that there are two versions, the first is for home users).

I have installed Norton Antivirus 2003 Pro on a computer I just built. It has a soyo SY_K7VEMPRO v1.0 motherboard, with a 1600+ Athlon, 256 mb of RAM at 133 with a 40 GB Seagate hardrive. When I did the full scan of the harddrive with Norton, it crashed and rebooted, i changed bios setting from optimized to load fail safe default and it ran the full scan. However when I tried to do a full scan again, the scan froze but I was able to close it, by X ing it out. I checked the CPU usage and it went up to 100%. It don't seem to go back to normal unless I reboot.

Do you guys have any suggestions? Is Norton really my problem? I have also tried Burnin Test, and it did not find any problems with my hardware. So I am wondering why my CPU gets up to a 100% and slows down my computer because I do a Norton Scan.

Hi and welcome to TSG,
If you have taken anything out of startups via msconfig please go to Start Run type in msconfig click OK and click on the Startup tab. Click on Enable All then Apply and OK. Then please do the following:

Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hi guys,

I've been having a bit of a problem with my computer, a Intel Centrino running Windows XP Professional.

As described in this thread, I am having problems with the processor always running at 100%, and Norton Antivirus being disabled on startup.

I have scanned with the latest versions of Ad-Aware, Spy-Bot and CWShredder, and nothing came up. Norton is completely up to date but does not detect anything untoward.

I have done online virus scan, which picked up a variant of the Gaobot virus, but that was cleaned. After disabling system restore, I performed further virus scans at the Symantec, Trend Micro and Panda sites, all of which came up clean. The problem, however, remains.

I am unable to uninstall and reinstall Norton as it came on a separate partition on the harddrive, and IBM Australia does not issue CDs for such programs.

Below is a HJT log, which was created when the problem presented (right now actually)

Thanks in advance,

I have been having trouble installing my Norton Antivirus. I recently tried to uninstall the program though a process that a site described to me. Basically uninstalling though add/remove software, searching computer with some keywords and deleting files, and using regedit in the Start > Run. I was doing this in hopes of removing a pop up that occurs after a random amount of time has passes. The pop up appeared to be from Norton but I later found out it was a bit of spyware that hijacked my Norton. Later I found a download that Norton offers to download and patch my Norton to remove it but I no longer have Norton. Yet still the pop ups continue! When I try to install my computer tells me it cant find a file called \navapsvc.exe. If any on has any ideas of how to fix this I would really love the help.

A:email problem with norton antivirus

Am I to assume that your method of sending mail did work before and this is not a sesult of a new installation? If so, does it happen sometimes or all the time?

It could be a problem with your mail server. The recent flood of e-mail viruses has caused some servers a real fit. Thus, it is possible your server connection is 'timed out' before your mail is ever sent.

I have Windows XP Pro, and my Norton is the Norton Antivirus 2003.

It was installed from a disk, and I updated all the antivirus definitions. Everything worked fine until about 2 days later. Suddenly, when I click on the desktop icon, or the icon in the lower right toolbar, or click on Norton in the Programs list, it will not open Norton for me. The live update in the start menu will work, but that is all.

The only way I can get the main window to open is if I click on the drop-down box beside the icon that is in the upper toolbar, next to the address box. Then I select "view status," and it will open the program's main screen for me.

Why on earth would ALL the other icons, ect. NOT suddenly work? I've done a liveupdate several times since then, the program seems to work fine otherwise, it scan fine, it checks the email, ect......it just that the desktop icon shortcut can't find it, and although its listed in the program list, it can't find it.....I get no error messages, just nothing happens. As if I clicked on an empty spot.

Should I be worried about this? Any ideas how I can fix it?

Thanks for any help!

Even after running Ad-Aware, Spybot, Ewido, TDS-3, Ccleaner, Microsoft AntiSpyware, Cleanup!, and deleting all the various spyware and trojans, etc.... I still have a very annoying popup that seems to be linked to my Norton Antivirus... which right now isn't working right. I reinstalled Norton Antivirus because it essentially stopped working when I installed XPSP2. Now it gives me the first screen that says "Next" at the bottom, but when I click it nothing happens. Whenever I try to go to NAV technical support sites, I get redirected to websites that are not from Symantec.

Here is my latest Hijackthis log....

Hello steve80,

Download L2MFix from one of these two locations:

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log.

Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Recently my subscription to Norton expired on my computer at work. I was prompted to either upgrade my subscription only or to actually upgrade the version of Norton. My manager advised me to go ahead and upgrade the entire product since we were running Norton Internet Security 2003. I purchased and downloaded NAV 2006 but have been completely unsuccessful in getting it to actually install on my computer. I originally thought there was a problem uninstalling the previous version of Norton, but after going thru every step I could find on the Symantec website I feel confident that the old version has been completely erased. (This includes running every executable file they recommended, editing the registry, deleting any files/folders with the name "Symantec" or "Norton", etc.)

When I first start the installation program, there is a screen that comes up that says it is going to "PreScan" my system to make sure there will be no problems installing the program. I cannot get the "PreScan" to actually work - it keeps saying "Scan failed". It says I can go ahead and try to install the program but there may be problems that could "interfere" with installation. So I attempt the installation and it gets about 1/3 completed. I then get a message that says "Fatal error. Gathering information." and the program starts to uninstall itself. I have tried the "chat" option on the Symantec website and I ... Read more

Since you're using a work computer. Is there any chance that there is perhaps a freeze on the computer? Here at school we have a thing called deepfreeze.. It freezes everything from being installed/uninstalled...
Im sorry for the short response, i was starting an assignment for school. anyway, Your company may have a freeze on programs being installed and uninstalled. If its there, you may need either a networker or a system admin to unlock it so you can uninstall the preivous version and install the more recent one. More and more places are using these freezes, they are very good. But also can be a pain.

I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I run Norton Antivirus 2004 on my computer (Dell 4600 w/ windows XP Home). And for about 2 months I've been having a problem with getting live update to work. Every time I try to run the program I get "Error: LU1875 This update failed during its preprocessing welcome text phase".

I have been to the symantec website and because I have 2004 version it is no longer covered by auto tech support. But they are kind enough to give a list of possible fixes.

So far I have tried: disabling my firewall
I ran a virus removal tool, for a virus that they said could cause this problem (virus not
found on my system, I knew that)
I have uninstalled live update and then re-installed with a freshly downloaded copy
I created a "symlogon.reg" and symlogoff.reg" files and have sent the info to symantec

With every fix I try they tell me to try running live update again in 48 hours. I do this and still get the error. I can technically still get virus def. updates by using symantec's intelligent updater, but it's a pain in the buttocks and takes forever with my slow dial-up connection. I downloaded the program off the internet so I don't have a disc to re-install the entire program and I forgot to save the .exe file to my hard drive.

I want my live update back, it was nice, ran all b... Read more

A:Norton Antivirus Live Update Problem

Hi Merlin's Mom.
Unregister then re-register "Navlucbk.dll".
To do so, click start>run.
In the run dialog box type "regsvr32 /u C:\Program Files\Norton Antivirus\Navlucbk.dll" (no quotes) and click ok. This will unregister the dll.
To re-register it type "regsvr32 C:\Program Files\Norton Antivirus\Navlucbk.dll" again, no quotes, click ok.
You should see a message saying it was successful.
Reboot your system and try live update again.
You might want to first check that the Navlucbk.dll file path is correct first. It should be in that folder location.
