Internet Explorer download function

Q: Internet Explorer download function

Downloading programmes etc with Firefox provides a choice of Open or Save. However Internet Explorer 9 does not provide any option, just proceeds to download.
Is there a way to configure IE9 to provide such an option please,

Preferred Solution: Internet Explorer download function

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm using IE v5.5, Windows 95 and my search function seems to have been taken over by a search engine I'd never seen before. Instead of searching using the Search Assistant and previewing results from all selected search engines in the side preview pane; I just get results from one site (ixquick).

Can anyone help me get rid of ixquick and return to the regular function?

Dear Sirs,

My name is Clifford Griffin. I just happened on this site by accident.
I sure hope you can help me.

My operating system is Windows XP SP2.

I am currently running IE version 7. But you should know that I will
experience the Identical problem while running IE v6.0.2800... or IE

Since my IE does not work I am using Firefox to communicate with

Most of the time when I try to access the browser I get a blank
window with the following error pop-up.

"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Included in that message is a statement that says: "To see what data
this error report contains click here." Upon clicking here I see
the following error signature:

"AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 7.0.6000.16441 ModName: kernel32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2945 Offset: 00012a5b"

There is also an extremely lengthy and detailed report entitled "Error
Report Contents" included, but it will not allow me to copy it.

Sometimes when I bring up the browser a window will appear just
as it should. But when I try to follow any link I get the same scenario
as explained above.

Can you help me?

Please let me know what further information you need.

Kindest Regards,

Clifford Griffin

A:Any version of Internet Explorer I try will not function.

Hi Clifford, welcome to TSF...

how long has the problem been present and have you tried a system restore to a date when all was well? Can you think of any downloads or any websites which were visited which may have triggered the problem?

Also, there is a chance of a malware infection so the following link may be helpful:

Finally, do you have a Windows XP installation disc?

My IE history function stopped working quite a while ago when I was using
version 5.1. It has stayed broken through upgrades to IE 6.0 and to 6.0 SP1.
When I select the "history" icon I get a list starting with History and containing only the file "index.dat". The only other item in the history list is
"desktop.ini". I have scanned the registry and it is OK. Is there any way to fix this without reinstalling IE?

Try going to Control Panel - Add/Remove programs-
select IE 6 - click add/remove- select Repair IE.

Hello everyone!
Last night I installed Bitcomet (latest version). Well I'm done using it and I uninstalled it via programs and features. Then I rebooted. Now when I find a file on Internet explorer 7 (any kind of file really) that I want to save or open, nothing happens.

If I click on a file to download the usual Windows Prompt opens and asks me to Save/Open/Cancel and if I click Open or Save, nothing happens. This use to work fine before I installed BitComet.

I figured out the problem. When you install bit comment it ties itself to I.E. browser extension during the install. So it kinda becomes the download manager for I.E. So I need to figure out how to set this back to default since I uninstalled Bitcomet.
I set programs to default. I looked in file extensions and that looks normal. Crap this sucks!
Any ideas?

A:Internet Explorer Save/Open Function

You could try opening Internet Options in Control Panel. Click on the Programs tab and select Manage Add-Ons. It is possible that removing BitComet did not remove the reference within Internet Explorer.
Other than that may be worth checking your File Associations and make sure BitComet is not set as the default application for opening specific file extensions.

First you can make sure your system is free of spyware/malware.
Follow these instructions please.

Scan your pc with one of these free online scanners:
Panda ActiveScan
RAV AntiVirus
Housecall. Be sure to put a check the box beside AutoClean.

Download / Install / Update / and Run:
Adaware SE check for any updates before running it.
Get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. You can download it at this SITE
To run this tool, install to the hard drive, then open Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection.

Download and install Spybot S&D . Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the Fix Selected Problems button. Exit Spybot. If you keep getting the DSO Exploit entries, even after you updated Windows and fixed them, then download the Spybot DSO Exploit Fix and install it over the current Spybot installation.

After those Run the System File Checker

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

There is a problem in which Flash Player stops once during the operation of the business portal currently operating based on Flash Player, so please contact us.

As a result of the verification, it is confirmed that it is not related to Adobe's Flash Player and is related to the function of Shockwave Flash Object installed in Windows 10 Internet Explorer 11.

Therefore, I would like to know whether it is possible to delete and reinstall the Shockwave Flash Object function.
And I would like to know if it is possible to upgrade or downgrade only the version of the Shockwave Flash Object (or any other related function) while leaving the version of Internet Explorer.

Thank you.

I've never seen anything like this. Okay, here's the system rundown --- Running win 7 pro sp1 64 bit on a Dell xps 8000. Replaced hard drive one month ago, and I've used Seagate's diagnostic tool to check out hard drive, which didn't find any errors with the hard drive.

So, here's problem 1:
Computer was running great up until four days ago. It wouldn't wake up out of sleep properly. It would freeze. I would have to reboot to wake it up. It won't even let me LOG OFF correctly because when I go to log back on, I don't get the prompt to choose the user or enter my password. When I reboot --- that I can only do by shutting on and off the power, it's fine. The computer starts up fine in SAFE MODE, so I'm not detecting any issues there.

Problem 2:
Internet explorer 10 (got it with one of the updates two weeks ago) simply would HANG and not open. Even with I would click it once and open task manager to see what was happening, it showed multiple instances of explorer open. So, what I did was turn OFF Explorer 10 in the "turn windows features on or off" section. But when I when to turn them back on to see if it would reset, I not only lost the default windows icons from the start bar, Explorer refused to initialize when I tried to start it from "Programs" or from clicking the explorer.exe icon in both Programs (64 bit) and Programs (x86).

To this point I've done the full scan disk, and also run SCAN NOW. I also have anti malware software ... Read more

Well, I?ve wasted another perfectly good hour looking for a way to download Internet Explorer 10.
I can?t find it anywhere.  IE 7, 8 ,9, 11 no trouble.
10 though it appears has dropped off the face of the earth.
Does anyone have a link into an official download location for IE 10?  via premier or mvls would be fine as well.

A:Where is the Internet Explorer 10 download?

I need IE 10 to run software that requires that version of IE to be installed.
IE 9 or 10 is supported, IE 11 is not.
I would not like to download IE from some random non-Microsoft location and distribute it to our client systems.
Anyway - after another couple of hours I was able to locate a deep link into where Microsoft has the downloads available.
For 64bit Windows 7
For 32bit Windows 7

You can't fully uninstall Internet Explorer, you can uninstall a later version to revert back to an earlier one.

What version of Internet Explorer did she have?

What is the operating system?

Do an Advanced Search for the file iexplore.exe and you should find several, any of which should start Internet Explorer.

This shows it when trying to launch a Citrix session
it has also occured when downloading word/pdf/XLS documents from the intranet or web.

its not an access issue, as it also happens on them machines with domain admin accounts.

But other users with the same build machine in the SAME OU IN AD, so getting same access rights etc work

I recently noticed that I can't download anything from the Internet. The strange this is that I can browse sites, and do everything imaginable except download anything! When I click download links they just sit there, nothing happens at all. Nothing pops up, nothing happens in the status bar, nothing.

It seemed to have happened right after I uninstalled two programs. GoZilla, and a program that auto-installed itself when I was downloading something from CNET (www.download.com). I think it was called Free Download Acellerator. If somebody could please help me out, any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Is the desktop where you have you IE to save stuff at? maby check your Downloads folder?

Read other 2 answers

Hi, this just started happening the other day, when I go to download something off of the internet, I watch the progress bar as the item is downloaded, and as soon as it gets to 100%, the download window disappears and I go check the folder that I instructed it to download but it's not saved.

If I download in Firefox theres no problem, the downloads come through fine in the same place that I told I.E. to download to. I've got ample disk space where Im trying to save to so that's not the issue.

I had I.E. 8 RC1 installed earlier and thats when it started to have this problem, so I uninstalled 8 and went back to 7, and the first time I tried to download with I.E. 7, it worked fine, but now Im trying again and having the same problems that I had with I.E. 8.

Like I said, no problems to download in Firefox, but I.E. just exits the download once it gets to 100%.

Any clues on what is causing this and how to fix it?

Just for your info. I was prompted yesterday that I had several updates I should download. I went ahead and downloaded all of them. One of the updates was a new version of Internet Explorer. I have been using version 8 and have been very happy with it. As soon as I had version 9 downloaded I started having problems. The cut and paste features were no where to be found. After doing a MS trouble search I found you had to activate this feature now. Then I found out today that I could not print anything off of the internet. I run an online business and need to print out invoices from the internet. I kept getting "Surrogate Com not working. Check for MS updates". I had just done all their updates. So I went to MS online help again. No solution or even a mention of the printing problem. So I searched how to remove IE9. I did that and now all is back to normal. Why don't those clowns at Microsoft field test these updates throughly before putting them out for public consumption? Is there any wonder Apple keeps gaining ground?

A:Internet Explorer 9 - Don't download

Besides the problems,I didn't like the layout either.
Same with the newer live mail application.
They removed the file menu,so you can't use select all to delete
all the junk mail at once.
Pain in the rear to do it one at a time.
I just ran windows update, right clicked the IE9 update and clicked
hide the update so it doesn't show up.

Windows 7, IE 11?. Internet Explorer almost starts (I see it briefly) and then a box "View Downloads - Internet Explorer" replaces it. In the box is what appears to be a random 8 digits followed by .htm and under that a homepage partial url (MSN.com). I changed by inetcpl.cpl home page to microsoft.com, same download box, but default.htm, not random.
I ran Microsoft's Mr. Fix-It, I scanned with AVG-Free, I deleted AVG-Free, I installed Microsoft Security Essentials and scanned, Malwarebytes, TDSSKiller, RKill, Hitman Pro, Rogue Killer, all finding nothing.
Is this a re-direct or is my IE crazy?
All othe computer functions appear normal, Firefox works, no other pop-ups, etc.

Hi, I use a Windows XP and have been having this problem for quite a while now. When downloading zip files or anything at all like new programs or spyware and adware deleting software, this is what happens (I am describing this with ALOT of detail):

The downloading box appears called 'File Download' and in the box there is of course a moving picture of a piece of paper leaving the earth and entering the folder. The bar that shows how much downloading has been done doesn't fill up. In addition 'Estimated time left', 'download to' and 'transfer rate' don't have any digits after them.

The 'close this download box' box has a check in it and 'Open' and 'Open Folder' are faded so you can't click on it but you can click on 'Cancel.' This is normal I believe.

After a while a box called 'Microsoft Internet Explorer' opens and states:

"Internet Explorer cannnot download 'filename' from 'filesite'.
Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later."

This is what happens in everything. Please help, it seems that no one is able to provide an answer for this problem and I have searched on google for a long time and still no answer...Thank you!

By far the simplest fix is to use System Restore to roll back Windows to a point in time when everything when your computer was functioning correctly. It allows you to undo system changes without affecting your personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos.Video: Fixing a problem using System RestoreIf that doesn't help, try restoring an earlier system image or backup. No suitable restore point, backup, or image available? Kick yourself -- you missed the easy solution, and you're left with digging through Windows' many settings.

A little background...

I have been using LeechGet on this system for about a year and a half, since I built it, with no troubles at all. It worked with all my browsers... IE, Avant, Orca, FireFox, Netscape, and Opera.

Yesterday I noticed that there was an updated version of LeechGet available for d-load. I downloaded and installed the newest version on top of the old version (probably my first mistake). Anyway, after doing this, the application would only catch clicks with the non-IE browsers. I played with it for a few hours till I was thoroughly aggravated, then I uninstalled the program through the Control Panel.

After uninstalling, I noticed that I had lost all of my IE context menu hacks and additions... Search Google, Search Dictionary, Check Spelling, Search with Copernic, Copy Image URL, etc. Well, after a System Restore AND a manual restore of the Registry, I was able to get my context menu back to normal. YAY!

Now here's the problem... after scouring the Registry for any instance of LeechGet and removing said items, everything seems to be normal with the non-IE browsers and with the IE context menus. However, I can't d-load with IE at most sites. When I click on a "download.php" link at places like Major Geeks, the browser just spins its wheels as the progress bar slowly moves across. The built-in d-load manager in IE never comes up. The file never gets d-loaded.

I've gone over everything I thought could be causing this. I've atte... Read more

Hi, I'm using Vista, and IE7 has came along with Vista. I having problems with it where whenever I clicked a link that will triggle downloads (those not run with download manager, those using IE built in download), my IE will stop reponding and close.

My OS has sent error report many times, and yet no solution found, as well as I couldn't find on Internet, and I didn't notice same problem ask other place.

I like IE7 and do not wish to switch to other browser just because my IE couldn't do download. And I planned to reinstall or something, but the IE in Vista, I just don't know to repair it and reinstall it. And I want to try reset my IE7 settings, I'm logged in as Administrator, with UAC running, and I couldn't run the reset function, it keeps on tell me to close other windows and running application even though I had just restart.

What should I do? Thanks in advanced.
