I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Before, they were all defaulted to Real Audio which I prefer to use.
How can I change this default?
Thanks

A:Media Player & Real Audio

Hi,

Well I use another program, but if I had to choose between real player or WMP. I would choose WMP. To open in the default player open your music folder select a MP3 (click on it once). Then press shift and right click on the track a open with box will appear, select real player and tick the box that says "always use this program to open this type of file".

DSL connections seem to be ok and speeds are fine.

it's gets annoying when your groovin' to a tune and the damn thing stops every minute or so.

any one else having problems with Media Player streaming audio?

any suggestions as to what the problem could be and how to remedy it?

thanks.

Greetings,

I'm having the following problem: I can't seem to hear streaming audio in the embedded windows media player in firefox (or IE). I'm using IE 7.0 and Firefox 2.0. My current version of WMP is 11.xx, but the issue has been the same with 10.xx. The primary site I'm having the issue with is www.mlb.com.

This issue seems isolated with streaming audio. Now, the media player says I'm connected and streaming (timer increments), but I'm clearly am not getting any sound. Now, I'm getting sound from other applications and can get sound from Windows Media Player. I'm able to stream video/sound from sites like youtube. My settings are set as explained here (http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/help/faq_technical.jsp#q4 ).

I'm using Windows XP Pro (SP 2) with a Creative Sound Blaster (Live, 24 Bit).

Any help would be appreciated,

RegainTheTruth

PS. MLB.com tech support sucks.

Hi!

I want to record a radio program that runs for three hours nightly, from midnight to 3:00A.M. on the internet. The program is the classics from the "Golden Age of Radio" that I hope to copy for a senior in the hospital.

The plan is to record it as a low resolution MP3 (32 or 64 bit), burn it to a cd that would be played on a discman.

I know I have to purchase a recording program such as Total Recorder or Super MP3 Recorder.

I have tried the trial version of TR that allows only 40 seconds. It is hard to determine how large the file size of the would be. The instructions seem to be slanted more to song recording length, not three hours.

Before I buy I would like any some advice. Has anyone done this? Are there any recomendations?

Thanks

Hi - I have a RealTek HD sound card in my E-Machines desktop system (new). I'm trying to record streaming audio - basically I want to simply record what I'm hearing through my speakers. But when I try to choose that input, it doesn't seem to be there. My choices are CD Volume, FrontMic, Mic Volume, and Line Volume (see attached pic) - and FYI - I did scroll over to the right - no additional options there.

There is no "wave" or "stereo mix" input choice. Any of the available choices I've tried and they don't record the live audio that's playing on my system. Is there a plug-in or something that will allow me to do this? I just want to record the same stuff that I'm hearing. Help! Thanks -

Set the default recording device to Stereo Mix if you have it.

Right click on the Microsoft Speaker icon in the task bar, select recording devices.
Right click anywhere in the window that opens and enable both "Show Disconnected" and "Show Disabled Devices" do you see "Stereo Mix" as an option? If so, select it and click the "Set Default" button.

Hi guys,

I get emails from Real all the time telling me new trailers and stuff to watch, so I clicked them and they start loading in Real Player (no. 10 btw) and when it's finished loading the audio streams perfectly, but the video is VERY slow frame rate and choppy...it doesn't stream. It only picks up like every 50th frame or something and shows that.

I have a 150kbps ISDN broaband connection (and that's what was automatically detected by realplayer as my connection) I have also tried playing around with the bandwidth settings but none of it makes a difference.

Hope someone can help. I have a 2ghz speed, pentium 4 248MB ram and the broadband connection. it should stream fine...but it seems to have trouble with the video. I have all the updated drivers.

I recently had a friend replace my computer, as it died. On my other computer, I had Audacity to record internet streaming audio, and to record spoken parts for my podcast show. When I had Audacity installed on my old computer, it had 4 options: Line-In, Microphone, Stereo, and Mono. I used the mono and stereo options to record streaming internet audio.
After installing Audacity on this computer, I only have the Line-In, and Microphone options. I have tried downloading other versions of Audacity, but it still only has the Line-In and Mic options no matter what version that I install. (I have version 1.2.6 of Audacity installed presently on my computer) The sound card is a SoundMax AudioESP. My friend says that he installed the lateest drivers for that sound card before he gave it to me. A:problems recording streaming audio with Audacity.

It's not Audacity, it's your sound card. It doesn't support the Advanced internal features for recording.
Go to the store and get a splitter. Plug it into your speaker port and run a jumper to your Line In from one of the splitter ports and plug your speakers into the other splitter port.
Configure Audacity to use the Line in as the Source device.

Greetings all, it has been awhile since I last posted, aside from my computers of which I have 4, I am also a long time audiophile, and have quite the collection of high end vintage stereo equipment. I have a friend who is more hard core about his sounds than I am.
I am fishing for opinions, I have bought a new ASUS lap top that I have a really good sound card and Graphics HDMI card installed. I also am an avid user of ITunes, and have found that their Lossless recordings are better than most of my CDs. I am also rather tired of playing one CD after another, so I recorded all my music, a little over 100gigs on 3 of my computers one being my new lap top. I also use ITunes Icloud service for storing my entire library including all my settings, and have used it to load up my laptop with all their lossless versions of all my music including what I bought from them.
I find the quality to be better than CDs, and better than what I hear on my tube CD player, while playing it from my computer files. My friend says that recorded music on a computer will degrade over time, and that a hard drive will not keep all files in one place, therefore the degrading of the information. He says that the new streaming services along with the new streaming players are far better. Herein lies the information I seek; Which is better, what are the opinions that the rest of you have, is computer recorded music better, or is streaming music on these new (very expensive) players better..., or is ther... A:Computer Harddrive recording or Streaming lossless audio, which is best?

Which is better depends on the source and the quality settings of the capture. A lossless copy of a CD and the actual CD should sound the SAME. If they do not, you have a player, configuration, or hardware issue. It doesn't matter if you are comparing CD's, ripped files from a CD, or streaming files (assuming all files are from the same source CD version).

Files stored on a computer do not "degrade over time". They will never change unless of course the HDD fails. So you either misunderstood what you friend was telling you, or he doesn't understand computers.

Hi Everyone,

I am in the process of organising a playlist of music videos for my works Christmas Party. This year I want to do something really special in the form of streaming the music videos from one (host) computer to several (guest) computers using VLC Media Player.

Here is a link to the method that I am using to Stream music videos -

https://www.evernote.com/shard/s278...999ab741c93f/5e344d246d17fcd8415e999e4cb175b1

I have decided on the HTTP method of streaming because this appears to be relatively simple to setup, and effective for reaching multiple clients.

However immediately I have noticed a number of caveats -

1). Media doesn't always play at the same time on all clients. I would like all music videos to play in sync (ignoring potential network 'lag' issues)

2). VLC gets stuck with the Playlist of music videos that I have created; it plays the first music video on each of the clients, but once the first music video comes to an end VLC stops playing altogether.

* In some instances it just stops, and provides no on screen messages
** In other instances it pops up a box which I have come to believe is related to missing codecs (even though the 'server' and all 'clients' have exactly the same codec packs installed).

I am looking for some tips on the optimum way to stream music videos (in a variety of formats, e.g.: avi, flv, mpg, mpeg). Ideally I need to setup several hours of music videos and just hit the 'play button&... Read more

So for some background I basically stream music, pictures and video content from my computer to an Xbox 360 in the lounge room for my family to enjoy. This has worked for quite a long time with Windows 7.

I installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview today and got settled in with it and indexed my libraries with Windows Media player so this could resume. But to my dismay this doesn't seem to work in Windows 8.

I have each folder and hard drive shared on windows for network use, I have a little experience from LANs in this area. I have enabled all streaming options in WMP that I know of and the entirety of my library has been fully indexed. This is WMP 12 and everything I possibly know of is up to date.

I haven't got the Homegroup feature active as I never had to use this before.

The only other thing I have noticed that has changed is this. A little green icon that in windows 7 would appear on top of the xboxs, I'm assuming this means something.

On the Xbox end it used to display the Libraries such as 'Recorded TV', 'Music', 'TV Shows', 'Movies' and other things but now when I try to access video content it gives me a folder called 'Videos' which contains nothing.

Does anybody know of any solutions?

Had a lot of trouble after installing Microsoft's DirectX 7a. Could not use DirectDraw, Direct 3D, or any media players: all would result in a page fault (Kernel32.dll @0137:bff7297c).

However, BEWARE OF DIRECTX 7a and especially WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER!~ I shout because ya need to [email protected]

Windows MEdia Player seems to me to be programmed to seek out any and all other media players (ie. Real Player 7), and mess them up big time. I have a 465 Kb .mpg file. It used to play on Real player BEFORE i put Direct X 7a in. Now, it plays 2.4 seconds of the mpg and quits. Recently I re-installed XP(probably didn't have to, but that's another story). I finally got my internet connection back and have re-installed my audio files. When I tried to start Musicmatch, I would be prompted that currently there was no music folder. After I "clicked' yes to that, the MM music would come up for a second or 2, as would the MM logo, then everything just quit and nothing. I finally uninstalled MM and re-downloaded it. Now when I try to start it, I get nothing.

I can run my music on Win Media Player, but can't run an entire song without a prompt that Media Player has experienced a problem(of course, when you click that promt, MMP disappears). It also won't play MS format music files.

I also can't get Real One to come up - after about 5 seconds of booting up, I get a prompt that it's encountered an error.

I also can't get Quick Time to come up...I get an "error 2093 message - make sure it's installed in your system."

Again, everything ran fine before reinstalling WXP(from the D drive?). Is there some common driver or something for all these media programs that I might be missing?

A:How to set up media streaming on Windows Media Player via network

Hi Karsten,

I have my own radio station- currently down now, because of a problem I'm having with my two hard drives. I use Winamp to stream the music. This, I've found, is the easiest method out there, and is compatible with just about all other media players (i.e., Windows Media, iTunes, Musicmatch, and of course, Winamp can all tune in).

To use this setup, you will need Winamp player, SHOUTcast DNAS server, and the shoutcast winamp plugin. These are all free.

In order to serve from within a network, you'll have to set up port forwarding for port 8000 (or whatever port you choose to serve on).

This is everything you need to get started. If after downloading all of these, you find yourself unsure of what to do, post again and I'll walk you through it- I just don't have the time to write out a guide unless it's needed.

Hope this helps.

Oh, and this is for streaming audio. Video is much more complicated and time-consuming.

It seems to be doing its job and all that happy stuff, you know: opening media libraries, playing mp3 files... only: no audio. Real Player's doing fine, but even my old Napster mp3 files from Napster - heck, even the Bearshare files that work with Real Player! - get zero audio when played in Windows Media. So I figured it's some sort of conflict, you know? That stuff happens. So being the resourceful guy that I am, I tried uninstalling Real Player, (Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs...) but you know what? It's not working. I get a pop up window ("Are you absolutely SURE you wanna lose all yer Real Player stuff? Yes/No" I do "Yes", I get another pop up job ("Uninstalling Real Player") but that's it. You know the blue horizontal bar you get that informs you of how far into the process you are? It doesn't even show up. At this point, nothing goes further. Ctrl/Alt/Delete tells me "Uninstalling Real Player Not Responding". It does that every time. What I want to do is be able to use Windows Media Player again, because I find it more practical than Real Player, only it serves me diddly to have an application running that won't give me the audio it&#... Just guessin here, can you go to start/run/type msconfig, go to start up tab, uncheck real player, reboot. Try to uninstall it when it hasn't loaded.

Hi. I am not able to play any audio or video files in my Windows Media Player or in my Real Player. I may have installed some codecs that may have caused this - but I do not know, as the codecs were installed 2 weeks ago, and I have used these media players since then.

What would you suggest I do?

Thanks for your help.

A:Media Player and Real Player - not playing!!

The easiest thing to do is to uninstall both, reboot and then install windows media player. that should fix your problem...doc

Hello,

If I insert a CD or DVD in my CD/DVD player on my laptop, using Real Player, I get perfect video and audio.
When I change the option to Windows Media player I only get video - no sound. Can anyone tell me what settings need to be changed to get sound from Media Player?
Does Real Player have anything to do with this problem?

Thanks,
Jeff B

Is real player the same thing as windows media player? If they are the same thing which one is better?

A:real player or window media player?

Real Player (aka Real Obnoxious) is not the same as Windows Media Player. There are certain files that will only play on Real Player and certain Files that will only play on Windows Media Player.

If you are going to install Real Player I suggest that you print out the instructions here;
http://home.comcast.net/~leeandheather/tutorials/realone.htm

refer to the instructions when installing Real Player. Although these instructions are not for the current Real Player version there is still enough in the instructions as what to disable, to keep Real Player usable, but stop it from bugging you all the time.

If real player and windows media player do the same thing which one is better?

A:Real Player Or Window Media Player

RealPlayer can play most of the formats that WMP can, plus some of it's own (ie formats created by the RealPlayer developer) which WMP can't play.

However, although RealPlayer plays more formats and you need it for some websites which stream audi/video content only in RealPlayer's native formats, It can be somewhat of annoyance when it's installed -- always popping up nag-screens to buy the 'pro' version etc. Something which WMP never does.

In essence, if you want all video and audio formats covered, you need them both. My policy is to manage with Windows Media Player. I just avoid using websites with video/audio content that need RealPlayer.

Hi, I listen to music all the time on my computer (its running windows xp professional).

Today, I put in a cd and I get no sound from the speakers. Everything in mediaplayer looks like the disc is playing. Likewaise, when I open a wav or mp3 file, i get no audio. I also tried the real ob eplayer, and that had the same issue. I do get audio from speakers when I test a system sound.

I clicked on the audio icon and everything is unchecked.

any ideas?
