Preferred Solution: keyboard fail in g470 after BIOS update

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

From what I understand your notebook works fine when using English keyboard layout, but does not work as expected if you change to Spanish keyboard layout.

Check your BIOS for a language or region setting and adjust as needed. Also - look in control panel for keyboard settings and install additional keboard layout for Spanish.

Good luck.

If your BIOS is already up to date, you don’t need the BIOS update.

and you can use only the BIOS which is available on the Toshiba download page

Any input is appreciated,

Hi

As far as I know the BIOS package downloaded from the Toshiba US driver page contains the WinRAR 32-bit self-extracting ZIP file which includes both Windows-based and diskette based BIOS update installation options.

Did you try to update the BIOS using Win-based BIOS?

What OS do you use?

Hey,My son's laptop did this blank screen too - only power button light was on, but no fan, no key lights, nothing.  I tried the same hard reset -remove batt, press power.  Almost took it apart to reseat the RAM, but decided to search the forum again (sorry I can't find that hp support page anymore).  Anyways, you will read that beside hard rest and reseating RAM, they will tell you to try connecting it to an external monitor to check if it is a display problem. Short story, none of the above worked for me, EXCEPT THIS - hold down Windows key and "B" key.  While holding down the Windows and B key, press and hold the power button for about one second, then release all 3 buttons.  The power key will light up, wait for about 40 seconds (more or less), then the BIOS will update. Hope it works for you too. UPDATE:  I just found the link again.... I followed step 3...

Is this an AMI BIOS.
If so, and you can get the new BIOS onto a floppy, there is a possibility you may still be able to flash the new BIOS.

Most Mobos with an AMI BIOS will look for a floppy disk with a bios update on it.

Hello All! I am a bit inexperienced and new to the forums and am seeking help. I have been using a latitude E5520 for a few years now and have been very happy. About a year and a half ago, my hinges broke and slowly my laptop has been dying. I recently purchased a refurbished identical laptop with the hopes of just moving my SSD, RAM, Processor over and It would all work the same. Once I put my SSD in the new laptop, it would boot, but turn off after 10 seconds and I could here the fans going at full speed before it died. After doing some research, I figured I would update the drivers and BIOS to get the current laptop config as close to my old laptop as possible to increase the likelihood that the SSD would work properly on this other laptop. After downloading the FW and following the instruction, the laptop shut off and never came back up. The lights and keyboard attempt to turn on, but the screen doesn't attempt to turn on and it is making some small noises as it keeps shutting off and powering on. At this point, I would just like to get the new laptop working and forget about swapping parts, if anybody out there can help me, I would greatly appreciate it.

Today I found some time to run updates using the pre-loaded ThinkVantage software on the machine. There were quite a few on there including a Bios update... upon running the updates and the machine restarting at the end, I get a black screen....  and nothing... the power lights are on but not more.  I have called Lenovo tech support and they advised me that because I did the Bios update (as part of the many updates that were suggested I required) I have voided my warranty support for this problem.... apparantly I was made aware of this as part of the disclaimer prior to running the updates!!!   Does anyone have any suggestions on steps forward from this point?

Hi,
Any advice?
I have a 9010 SFF that was working fine, except that it would not install the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.  Repeatedly, about 30% through the update it failed with a BSOD. I tried several times.
Somewhere I read that the BIOS might need updating so I headed over to DELL support.  I let the website automatically detect my system and it found a recommended BIOS update, version A24.
I initiated the BIOS update from the website and it seemed to run successfully but when the PC rebooted it hung half way through POST.
On a second attempt to start the machine - nothing - no display, no light, just will not start.
I tried clearing the NVRAM as indicated on the DELL website here: www.dell.com/.../SLN284985
I tried both the RTCRST jumper method and the battery removal method.
The result - it now continuously reboots but still no POST, no display, nothing.
I should add that during the original BIOS update, the PC had a Quadro 600 graphics card and a LSI 9200-8e SAS adapter card inside. They had both been working faultlessly and were removed when I tried to reset the BIOS NVRAM.
Any suggests on what next to recover my "bricked" desktop?
Andy

my keys would also become active just by pressing it but not holding it as in, it would just spam a later after pressing it once, this applies to all of the keys i mentioned.

I can't determine whether its an update, process, services or anything.

Iv'e tried two system restores, even before 11/30 and I still have this problem.

My notebook is around a year old and in good condition - a few days ago the keyboard completely stopped working. I went through a lot of fixes and troubleshooting, and some of the symptoms really don't match what i am seeing online. For starters, the majority of the time it will not accept an external (USB) keyboard. Also, in order to be able to enter my password with a USB keyboard i have to boot the computer whilst holding Shift and Enter. Now the keyboard is being extremely temperemental, it isn't useable. Certain keys will occasionally work but not correctly, for example the 'T' key will operate TAB. So far i have done a full system restore, i have removed the battery and held the power button for around a minute, i have updated the keyboard driver and reinstalled it. I've been trying these things in different orders for the past 2 days and i'm not making any progress. The computer hasn't been in contact with any moisture, it hasn't been dropped.  The next step i am considering is updating the BIOS - i have no knowledge of this and wondered if this was an appropriate thing to do? Thanks for reading!

A:Notebook Keyboard not working - Bios Update?

Rturner9314 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! You don't say what Model laptop you have, but my guess is that it did NOT come with Win10 preinstalled.  Is that right? And if so, did it come with Win7 preinstalled or Win8x? Asking because MS recently pushed out their Anniversary Update and, as evidenced by LOTS of postings on the Win10 community forum, and here, that has been causing serious problems with folks whose Upgraded PCs worked fine with the older versions of Win10 (i.e., 10240, 10587) but not with this new version (14393).We can proceed once you provide the answers. And NO, a BIOS update is NOT going to address this problem; plus, unless you have a very new PC, there is no BIOS update available for it.Thanks

For anyone having trouble sleeping, this ones for you.  Several weeks ago the keyboard backlight function on my Latitude E6510 (it's a recond unit from Dell Direct w/Core i3 M370, 4 GB RAM, running Win7 Pro/32-bit) stopped working. I've had the unit for over 3 years.
Anyway, when the backlight stopped working I ran a diagnostic that produced a "warning" about the HD's imminent failure.  Not sure that was related to the keyboard issue, but taking it to heart I replaced the HDD with a SSD (cloning the HDD to the SSD).  When that didn't resolve the issue, I posted to the Forum and someone suggested doing a clean install of Win7 Pro, which I did.
A "new" problem has arisen where I cannot seem to be able to flash the bios from its current A05.  I'm just trying to get to A09 now, and it won't work.  I tried it in Windows, where I get the "BIOS Update Program" message about keeping the AC adapter connected, etc, and then when I click on "OK" I get a popup window saying "E6510A09.EXE has stopped working."  The popup window includes an option to "Check online for a solution and close the program."  When I click on that it appears to be searching for solution for about 10 seconds, and the the popup window just disappears.
I also tried loading DOS boot files onto a USB thumb drive, along with the executable BIOS update file, but that would not work eit... Read more

After BIOS debacle and a reflash to the old BIOS, my keyboard is no longer mapped correctly. It seems to have happened after going through a restart. My spacebar is now my enter key. If you hit the B or V keys, it registers as both = "BV" same for M and N. I did clean my keyboard with a light spray of 3m Anti-static Electronics Cleaner if that could have something to do with it.  What's the issue with my keyboard?  I've tried uninstalling the drivers and rebooting. I've tried every quick fix I can google. I've tried unplugging the keyboard.A USB keyboard is totally unaffected, it's just the built in keyboard.

I cannot get through a paragraph without a double space being inserted randomly. It occurs typing normal speed, or fast.
It seems many users (read a few threads) had this same bug occur on their XPS 13 devices, and in fact a BIOS update was released specifically to resolve this problem: http://www.dell.com/Support/Article/us/en/04/SLN297563
Will us Inspiron 5759 owners be so lucky, or is Dell unaware that the same issue is occurring on Inspiron laptops? (FWIW, I had stock BIOS [1.0.6 A07] and updated to the BIOS released 11 Dec 2015 [1.1.3 A09], but no joy.)
I have done all troubleshooting steps, and this does not occur with an external keyboard hooked up.
Please Dell, release a BIOS update to fix this, like you did for the XPS users who complained on this forum.

Thanks for nothing, Dell. Pretty clear why they are so eager to knock $150 off the price on the chat for this item, and why it's one third  the cost of the Apple.  Don't mind my double spaces, it's just the wonderful  made keyboard woohoo.

Good evening all,

Just to flag that this has also been posted in W7 Support sub-forum here:

Other thread

Re. the instruction thread - the link to DSS doesn't seem to work, and GMER is for 32-bit only. If there's anything I can do to kick things off, please let me know and I'll do it!

I've googled extensively around the issues I am facing, and tried all proposed solutions, but none have worked thus far.

Symptoms:I have 1-2 minutes of freedom after booting, then I can no longer run new programmes. I also cannot close some programmes e.g. Skype. Tabs in Chrome spazz, flash player dies, and any new navigation ends up with an eternal hanging/loading problem.
Unable to restart/shutdown conventionally (I have to do it physically)
I get the error "Failure to display security and shut down options ..." when I try ALT+CTRL+DEL

Safe mode is absolutely fine, so I assume it's not anything hardware related (though please correct me if I'm being naive). My second drive which runs off XP, which I only use for storage now, boots fine and has no problems.

I have not installed any new drivers, programmes, or otherwise made any meaningful changes recently.

Solutions I've tried:Reset winsock.
Shut off all start-up programmes using MSCONFIG.
Run virus scan at boot-up, deleted 2 items (win32 installmate ... prob trojans? Was an .exe that I had downloaded but never ran).
Run Malwarebytes scan, deleted 1 fairly innocuous item.
Run full scan-disk check.
Run a SFC scan... Read more

Hi Folks,    I have a spectre X360 and I am really happy with it.  Great product.  I recently updated the bios and it was really nice to be rid of the glowing keyboard light LED. There is an issue that has popped up though which is incredibly frustrating, like incredibly annoying, and I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this.  The keyboard response to typing a double letter (such as the t in letter) has gone down.  In other words my typing speed is now limited because the keyboard isn't as sensitive as it was prior to the bios update.  Does anyone know of a setting somewhere where I can increase the sensitivity of the keyboard so I'm not constantly going back to correct a missing double letter?  Please! argh it sucks so bad.  It has ruined my experience with this machine.  -Sam

A:spectre x360 keyboard issue after recent bios update

Hello @Sam_A? ,Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Spectre x360 and TouchPad sensitivities not working correctly. Here is a document on how to troubleshoot the Touchpad sensitivities. If you will go to the section on Adjusting TouchPad pointing sensitivities it should help resolve the issue. It also shows you how to restore the default setting that could help as well.Hope this fixes your issue.Thanks.

Hi, I am desperately in need of some HELP!!! 3 days ago, I performed a series of updates sent out by Dell on my XPS 8900 Desktop, including updating the BIOS from version 2.1.3 to 2.1.8. Everything went fine until the final reboot after the BIOS update. After repeatedly getting a blue screen and system shutdown, I was given the option of restoring the computer to the last known working configuration/reverting the hard drive, which I did. Now, everything works fine UNTIL I get to the login screen at which point my keyboard and mouse freezes up. I've tried both a wired mouse and keyboard as well as the wireless on that was originally in it, but to NO avail, it still freezes up at the login screen. I've tried regular mode, safe mode, and every available mode, but again, to no avail. The BIOS version is showing as 2.1.8 and I don't have the option in BIOS setup to roll it back to 2.1.3. I contacted Dell Customer Support via telephone and the representative told me that I will have to reinstall the OS (Windows 7 Ultimate), which is NOT an option, as I have files on it that UNFORTUNATELY, I did NOT back up, and CAN'T afford to lose. I've searched the internet, but still have not been able to solve the problem, which according to my research, has to do with the usb ports losing power during the boot up process, which I know to be true because I can use the mouse and keyboard until it get's to the Window logo screen, at which point the power lig... Anyway I have an IBM 300pl that originally had an intel 350mhz PII processor, I attempted to update to a celeron 766mhz. The system gave a no processor update available error but booted anyway after hitting F1, so I went to IBM got the latest update for this specific machine, installed the original CPU and updated the bios

All went well but after the bios update I could no longer use the keyboard and mouse together only one or the other plugged in the PS/2 ports or both wouldn't work and an error would pop up.

I installed the celeron 766mhz and still got the no processor update error, even though the bios was dated late 2001 but then the keyboard wouldn't work either (doesn't turn on at post)

I ended up resetting the CMOS, no joy, Reset the cmos and left the keyboard unplugged until the unit complained, then it popped up an error that keyboard had changed from locked to unlocked, I plugged my keyboard in and could use it the one boot afterword but then after another reboot same problem.

What the heck is a Keyboard lock and why would ANYONE have such a function? How do I get rid of this so I can use PS/2 ports?

Anyone know of a non-buggy IBM 300pl 6862-24u bios update that I could try?

Thanx
Ryan

Recently I upgraded the BIOS on my Latitude E5550 to the latest recommended version, along with the graphics drivers. It turns out that, while in game, movement keys don't register a lot of the time. I am 100% sure this problem only exists since I upgraded the BIOS.
I looked into it and it seems that the computer prioritizes the keys WASD for concurrent input as per factory settings. However I changed my keyboard from QWERTY to AZERTY a couple months ago, and therefore I used ZQSD instead of WASD. All worked as expected until upgrading the BIOS, and I was able to press ZQSD concurrently without issue. The actual keyboard mapping was handled by Windows, I just had to change keyboard layout after installing the new keyboard.
For some reason upgrading the BIOS sort of re-prioritized WASD, as if my keyboard was standard QWERTY even though it is now AZERTY, and I can register all four of those WASD keys at the same time again but can't use them for movement in game because of the layout. Using ZQSD, pressing multiple keys at the same time in certain configuration simply fails to register in game. Changing keyboard layouts in Windows doesn't change which actual keys can be pressed together.
I don't know if I should roll back to the old BIOS version (but would it fix it?) or if I should remove my keyboard and re-install my old QWERTY keyboard, re-install the BIOS, then remove my old keyboard and re-install the new one again.
By the looks of things, it seems at least ... Read more

Hi,
My system specs: i5-2320
Motherboard: Dh61WW
RAM: 4 GB

I recently updated my Bios from 0048 to 0099. After update my pc dint start (many users had problem of boot failure after update to 0099). So then i updated it to 0109. Pc now works but since then my PS/2 Keyboard is not working partially.Tried updating to 0111 and 0113(latest at present) but still problem is same

When I start Pc, I can enter Bios menu by pressing the key, but once Bios opens, I cannot use my keyboard (surprisingly, usb mouse works in bios, vich, before update dint used to work.). Same with boot sequence menu,i can enter but cannot select nething as keyboard stops working. If I dont enter Bios or boot menu, I come to a screen where i ve to select the os vich i want to start (I ve windows 7 and ubuntu dual boot options) I can use keyboard to select an option i.e keyboard works at this point. If i go to ubuntu, keyboard works perfectly fine. But if i select windows 7, Keyboard stops working. In device manager, the keyboard option isnt seen only..

if i update Bios, Keyboard will work when it restarts 1st time after bios update, but if I shut down or restart again, It wont work. So,if i want to use a keyboard, I ve to update bios everytime i start pc( doesnt matter even if i install same version of bios).

Also, I tried resetting bios configuration via battery removal, jumper reset method but dint help. Installing windows 7 or windows 8 doesnt work.I already tri... Read more

A few days ago I was prompted to install an urgent BIOS update.  I followed the screen prompts and the system rebooted and flashed the BIOS.  Our company laptops all have Sophos encryption, which requires a separate login prior to booting the OS (Win7).  I've always been able to enter user ID and password information on that screen using the USB keyboard connected to my OneLink+ dock (which is connected to the laptop). Following this BIOS update, I can no longer use the keyboard or mouse (also USB) connected to the OneLink+ dock until the OS boots.  I have to open my laptop, enter my Sophos ID and password on the laptop keyboard, then close the laptop.  Once the OS (Win7) boots, I can use both the USB devices fine.  Interestingly enough, the monitor attached to the OneLink+ dock functions just fine before the OS boots up. I checked BIOS settings and couldn't see anything there that looked odd or out of place.  I also checed Device Manager to see if there were any warnings or issues, and didn't see anything. I tried to downgrade the BIOS to an earlier version, but once you are above 1.23 that is not possible.  I did flash to the latest release - 1.27 - but that did not fix the issue. So I'm stuck with a rather awkward login process which was not an issue until this BIOS version was installed a few days ago.  I've reviewed other post for similar issues but have not found anything that points at a solution thus far... I have Dell Inspiron 13 7000 series laptop, recently I came up with having trouble with the keyboard, it behaves oddly. The "tab" key acts as windows key, "windows key" acts as "letter v" key..some keys are not working at all.. The behavior that I found is , every time I update BIOS with the update from Dell Site, the keyboard starts working..but the next day (shutting down and accessing the system the other day), the same thing happens. I have to re-update the BIOS to make the keyboard work
